Any possibility of getting a Battlelord Automation? <smiles sweetly> That would be a nice addition to my arsenal.

Holy crap! It's possible Terra is "pregnant" with a new "baby"? She can pilot three of these things? Talk about awesome! Even if Sherwood postpones it (or makes us earn it in-game), that's still nothing but win! =)

But what will she name it? I know! Smoochie! Wait. That's taken. =)

Yeah, according to the character class, every two levels up, the Controller can operate another Automation up to a maximum of eight. Makes them a very potent opponent on the battlefield.

Sherwood Sherwood While we wait for Sil and Vaneheart, is it cool by you that Gradicus flies back to Brazzy's mansion or would you rather Grad did something else entirely?

That would be cool for us to do that, so long as Psychie doesn't mind.

Still here, more or less - can't deny a lack of involvement on my end lately, though. I've been spending less time on RPN recently; still checking my alerts pretty much daily, but not much more than that. Sometimes feels like I'm lacking that one rp that gets me excited enough to get going - this rp here has fulfilled that role for quite some time in the beginning, but isn't quite there right now. Not because of y'alls' writing, mind you, I'm enjoying those posts you write quite a lot - just feels like I'm getting nowhere with my own character, and it certainly doesn't get easier when one skips a scene or two...

Is there anything that I can do on my part to help? I don't want to lose you as a player, but if you are not satisfied with your character I understand.

Silanon Silanon If you're not enjoying your character, would it help for you to play a character you're more excited about? I mean, Shaona is pretty cool and I for one would miss her, but I firmly believe in ol' Gary Gygax's attitude of that the player should be "excited" to play their character. I really enjoy playing Gradicus and that's one of many big pulls that keep me posting here. I guess I am just wishing you the same fun factor, you know? =)

Vaneheart Vaneheart Hope your weekend doesn't tire you out! See you when you're able to post again! =)

Sherwood Sherwood From my perspective, there's not much more you could actually do at this point - honestly, I think that the appearance of some unknown, high-technological fiend should be plenty to give Shaona something to do. Point is, I feel like I'm not really getting there at the moment; actually considered Purr Purr 's proposal before my previous response - some thoughts on that:

- I feel like Shaona lacks a certain depth that'd make her a better (read: more enjoyable) character; I'd say that the basic potential should be there, and there are a few things in my workshop that'd add to that - but they ain't gonna do much if they never show up in the actual rp, and that's what matters in the end. Concepts are great and all, but I feel like this one just doesn't work out too well.

- personally, I feel like she's less connected to the other party members than she should be; maybe that's just my impression, though, my lack of activity certainly plays a role in there as well.

- mechanic-wise: I love the concept of the tw's - but I feel like it's extremly clunky to play them. Not in fights, I generally enjoy how those play out - but outside of those; you gotta find enough time to work on your projects, you gotta make sure that there's time to read, to finds the wonders within this world; feel like that idea of a tw kind of interferes with the idea of adventuring, at least if you do it the way I'm doing it thus far: without much of a plan. If she was trying to search for a specific answer, or something like that, she'd have more of a purpose; right now, it's more like "oh, robots - let's gun 'em down and see what's next".

Here's my thought right now: Lemme try to come up with a new character, just like Dann proposed. Brazamal will take action himself and bring a few people with him, good opportunity to introduce someone new, I'd say. Send Shaona home, the war between coalition and mages is always a reasonable excuse for that; see how things work out with a different character, maybe that'll actually do the trick for me.
Problem (there are always problems, right?): I have no clue what that new character should be like at this point in time; I'd have to put some thought into that, especially since I'd want to avoid the trouble I'm running into right now. I'm generally fond of magic in its different shapes and forms, so that'd be a first idea where I might want to go; nothing scholar-like though, think I'm more inclined to pick up one of the intuitive magic users (think sorcerer instead of wizard in Pathfinder-terms). Maybe a bit more of a brawler... hmm...

Entirely acceptable. Do you want any assistance with a new character? I will let you start your new creation at the same amount of experience as you currently have, so depending on your xp chart, you'll be a 4th to 5th level character.

Silanon Silanon I am glad that you are not leaving the game. I am wondering what kind of character you will be pulling into the game as a replacement? There are soooo many good options available, it is almost hard to choose what to pick!

In my personal opinion, the Ley Line Walker is the most well rounded, most versatile spellcaster in the system. If you combine that OCC with a good race type, it can really give you both great physical and mystical ability. While it is up to you, if you were to pick a True Atlantean as a race, they give you great stats, and access to a few extra bonuses that a human does not have. Plus, just like Psychie's character, I would let you start with a couple of extra of the Mystic Tattoos to boost your abilities even more. Just a thought.

I almost went with that idea myself, but I just couldn't pass up on the Controller idea. It would be neat to have another Atlantean in the party, though. A great hook to have us all working together!

Re: Atlantean. Sil, I was thinking the same as Sherwoid and Psychie, but more importantly, I would like to know if there is either an existing character or past character concept (from any game) that you would just love to play in Rifts?

What would you love to play at?

Well, I have some errands to run, but after I will have a IC post up for Gradicus with his adventure in Dweomer as you look about.

Thanks for the ideas, guys and gals, I appreciate it. Before I begin to answer stuff, there's one thing that's not character-related that I meant to mention: In about three weeks, I'll be on vacation for two weeks; I'll have internet and stuff, but it might influence the frequency of my posts. Luckily, there's pretty much only the chance that things get better than they are right now, so there's nothing to fear - just thought I'd mention it before I forget about it.

On to the actual topic of the posts, shall we? I'll just try to go from top to bottom, lemme know if I skipped something.

- assistance with the new character? Yes, please, though I already get plenty of that right now. One thing that I'm lacking is the broad picture of what's actually out there, think all of you know the world of Rifts better than I do. Thus, there might be some occ or rcc that does exactly what I have in mind, and I have simply no idea that it exists. So if you read my posts and think: hey, that wolf/demon hybrid from Sourcebook 34 sounds exactly like what he's talking about - let me know, and I'll take a look.

- Psychie Psychie Thanks - and way too many options indeed...

- not quite sure about the line walkers, personally - I always have a particular picture of them in mind, some old, wise man with a hat or something. Now that's not what they are, exactly, or at least not always, but it kind of keeps me away from them... I'll read the desription one more time, maybe I'll be able to think of something else that'd fit my idea of a character.

- true atlanteans; I see the appeal of a third one joining in, but I might want to go for something a little different instead. I'm not too concerned with good stats and the like, personally, more with the way the characters feel; and looking at the two Atlanteans right now, I might want to go with something less determined, if that makes sense.

- in general: I'll find something that will have enough common ground with the rest of the group to get us to work together, or there's no point in doing it at all. Or at least, that's just how I roll, or try to anyway. Whatever happens, expect someone determined to get rid of nasty robot thingies from beyond the stars. Also expect a good alignment, or something damn close to it; just more comfortable in that area, and there's enough space for different opinions within that area of morality.

- previous concepts: Good question. In a previous game of Rifts, I was running a damn naive, good-hearted mystic, and it worked out damn well until real life stopped me. Had a few things in there that I'm looking for: The most important one being someone who sees the world from a slightly different perspective than everyone else while still being able to work with most others. Whatever I'm doing, it'll probably have something of that in it. One additional thing I liked about her was that you don't need to read books or buy spells with a mystic - it all comes naturally for them. Don't think that's a requirement, but it's got that sorcerer-feeling in there that I like. Now I'm not saying that I want to run a mystic, but maybe something similar. Just saw the star child in the England sourcebook, for example, and thought: Hey, maybe that's something that could work out quite well.

Also had a shaman-like fighter from Garuda in a Robotech game once, really enjoyed that one. Quite similar to the mystic, now that I think about it - outsider, a few magical tricks, and as much distance from technology as possible if you happen to be a mecha pilot. Funny how that works, sometimes; guess there's something for me to be found with those kind of characters...

- apart from that: I think I want to use something that isn't reliant on technology, at least not too much. And I don't think I want to use guns. Maybe knives, swords, staffs, or short-ranged pistols - and an ability or two to support the others if that's possible - but I think I want to leave the place behind everyone else and get a bit closer to the action, just so that I can work in tandem with others.

That's it for today, I'm off - don't you dare to hurt our slayer while he aimlessly wanders through the streets, Sherwood Sherwood !

and looking at the two Atlanteans right now, I might want to go with something less determined, if that makes sense.

Sil, I don't know what you mean by that. "Determined" in what sense?

The most important one being someone who sees the world from a slightly different perspective than everyone else while still being able to work with most others.

Hah! That's just how I see Gradicus!

In a previous game of Rifts, I was running a damn naive, good-hearted mystic, and it worked out damn well until real life stopped me.

Do you still have the character sheet?

That's it for today, I'm off - don't you dare to hurt our slayer while he aimlessly wanders through the streets, @Sherwood !

Ha ha ha! That's kind of you, Sil. I'm more concerned about the aerial targets the rest of the team just picked up! =)

There have to be at least half a dozen ways to create the core character concept that you've described. Here's to the future! =)

Sherwood Sherwood

...intending to use the short trip to see what he could do about transforming his dragonhide chunks and fangs into a useful set of matching boots and enchanted daggers.

While an M.D. trenchcoat would be cool, it would also be finite (meaning, it can get blown up). I'm rather looking for miscellaneous magical items that add utility. Perhaps footwear that might add a bonus to Prowl? Or perhaps add a minor bonus to Saving Throws? Maybe a bonus to Initiative?

If there is enough for a trenchcoat for someone Gradicus's size, could we make 3 pairs of enchanted boots and 1 pair of anklets (for Sir Dru who lacks feet)?

As for the daggers, I was thinking of just having a set of really cool-looking mega-damage daggers with sheaths set in the boots. Since they're from a Fire Dragon, maybe they could have fiery properties (never need matches or torches again)? The sheaths would have to be fireproofed.

What ideas along these lines do you think are cool?
