-Name: Kyler Morgan
-Age: 17
-Gender: Male
-Grade: 11
-Years spent at Academy: New arrival
-Mutation: An imbalance of neurotransmitters, originally diagnosed as a case of insomnia, was acknowledged as a mutation after Kyler showed no signs of physical impairment from lack of sleep. His brain has adapted to repair muscles, release growth hormones, and perform other important functions normally associated with sleep during full awareness. The end result is not simply a lower demand for sleep, but a complete lack of it, leaving him with plenty of extra time for whatever catches his interest while the rest of the world is at a standstill.
While sleep doesn’t come naturally, he can be knocked out or given strong medicine to render him unconscious.
His eyes have also adapted, as he possesses a tapetum lucidum layer (the layer that makes certain animal’s eyes glow and reflect light) beneath his retina, gifting him the ability the make better use of bits of light in dark spaces. Although he can see better in the dark than an unaffected human, he can’t see perfectly in darkness.
-Side Effects: While his sleeplessness fails to affect his physical state, the metal side of things takes a heavier blow, most prominent in the ADHD he acquired at a young age. His brain testing and strengthening neurological connections while fully conscious leads him to be twitchy and fidgety, usually messing impulsively with random objects in his reach. Long hours of isolation during the nights also manages to instill a sense of habitual boredom, a dangerous mixture with teenage angst.
The increased number of rod vision cells in his eyes also impacts his ability to recognize colors, ultimately leaving him colorblind.
-Skills: Not wanting to disturb the other members of his family, the hours of the night are spent with electronics, simple games or more serious work depending on his mood. To put it plainly, he doesn’t apply himself much, and prefers fiddling with electronics. He’s also pretty good at stalking people. Creeper.
-Personality: Although he’s primarily an introvert, he isn’t shy per say, rather, a bit on the quite side. In conversations he often adopts a cynical tone, especially around those he dislikes. If blatant aggression isn’t offered to his rivals, Kyler isn’t afraid to use passive aggression and indirect confrontation. This is thanks to his figurative allergy to sports or anything involving physical activity, leaving him far from being cut out for combat.
Around those he favors, he tries his best to fit into conversations, even taking extreme measures to suck up to whomever becomes his friend. In this way he’s easy to manipulate, just stay on his good side and he’s bound to accept a favor or two. His attentiveness can sometimes become overbearing, steering people away.
Kyler doesn’t take kindly to rules, often experimenting with what he can get away with, how far he can push. With a vendetta against any form of authority, he’s gotten into trouble in the past for acting up around teachers. (Something more common when he was younger, not as apparent lately.)
Due to a fairly “domesticated” life, he’s also squeamish when it comes to blood and gore.
-History before Academy: (May add more later.) For many years, Kyler’s mutation was under the radar, considering its impalpable nature. This enabled him to live a normal life alongside his four siblings, even developing a technique for faking sleep when necessary, until a chance doctor’s visit led to its discovery. Despite any arguing on Kyler’s behalf, his parents insisted he attend the academy, claiming it to be the only way he could possibly fit in. Feeling fully abandoned, Kyler has silently vowed to put in the least amount of effort he can muster, as a way to get back at them. This is narrowed down to academics, because he figures he can weasel his way out of the academy if he keeps the rebellion on the down low. If all else fails, he’s not afraid to full out make a run for it, if it comes to that.
