There was no denying that summer was in full swing as the great sun above focused all of its attention down upon the County of Sol, one could cook an egg or even fry a lamb steak on the cobblestone. Sadly the only thing that was being cooked were the men and women that labored under the cloudless sky. Linneus felt their anguish, but was grateful for their hard work. In the shade of a temporarily raised gazebo, the Count worked with the project leads to coordinate the reconstruction of the village.

Not long ago a host of forest demons invaded the Light Barony. It was a difficult fight and Linneus was a poor general. Unfortunately he chose to trust mercenaries to defend the village of Redcliffe and in his absence, those brutes burned the village to the ground. Now that he was finally home and focusing on infrastructure rather than hunting evil, he could see to this project himself.

"Either build the bridges higher or build them with more support." The Count demanded in a tone that left little room for negotiation. "If the river floods then the bridges could be washed away and we don't want the villagers to waste resources rebuilding bridges every time it rains." With a swipe of his hand through the air, Linneus dismissed the mason and let out a heavy sigh. People were already trying to cut corners simply because it was faster and they wanted to get out of the heat.

This wouldn't be an easy job, but it was an important one all the same and he didn't want shoddy work being done in his territory or worse, in his name. He watched a group of laborers cart away several bundles of stones. He turned his attention back to the table which was where a map of the city was laid out. "Have you decided what to do with the location of the former estate?" The city planner asked Linneus. They had been going back and forth on what to do with the area. Linneus wanted to build a fort to protect the people in case of an attack, but the city planner suggested rebuilding the property to host future visitors tot he County or the mayor and their family. That was the idea the nobles would appreciate. He was truly torn.

"let's revisit that topic later. I woold like to include a small market in the plans. Villagers shouldn't have to travel to the nearest city to sell or buy goods." The Count's sugegstion was met with blank stares and furrowed brows. The man was going to ruin any pre-drawn plans in favor of his idealistic desires. This was going to be a long project.

Zahrah's thought process was a simple one. They needed to learn how to spread happiness by meeting new people, so they needed to find a new person to meet! That plan fell apart when they realised just how many people there were in the capital. It was crowded and busy, making it impossible to meet them all. Besides, it was not all that nice to be getting so much input without access to their regular data processors. Zahrah figured that if they wanted to make everyone happy, they'd need to start somewhere smaller. So, after a look at the map of the country they were in, they decided. It had to be the county of Sol! After all, a county named after the sun had to be bright and good! Besides, the count was called 'Light' so he had to be a bright and happy fellow! That was enough for Zahrah to set out on a grand adventure! They, perhaps due to managing to pretend being baggage to get cheap rides, managed to make their way to the county. Sadly enough, the capital of the county was also rather busy, which still wasn't good enough.

It's why Zahrah ventured even further, until they found themselves in a place called Redcliff. It was very disappointing. There wasn't much red around, nor where there cliffs. In fact, Zahrah couldn't even spot a single red cliff!Their disappointment was immeasurable and their day was ruined. For maybe a second or two, as after that, they'd forgotten about it already and spotted lots of people working up a sweat in the sun. Those people definitely, clearly, didn't look happy at all. That was no good! Zahrah wondered why they were even forced to work at this time of the day. Surely they'd heard of siesta's, right? Zahrah, even without a database, knew that those increased both happiness and productivity. That's when it clicked, Zahrah's first mission to make people happy! Fight for the implementation of a siesta! Now they just needed to speak to the manager find whomever was in charge of this endeavour.

It wasn't too difficult to find them, as Zahrah saw some men glossing over a table, one of them looking fancier than the others. That was probably their target. Deciding to be straight and direct, Zahrah approached them with little care for safety and appearances. That said, there was no reason not to be nice about it! “Hello~ I'm here to fight for the implementation of a siesta! I'm confident it will boost happiness and productivity alike!”

It was a sad sight. A familiar sight from days long past. A sight that hurt now as much as it did then. The carnage of demons on the world, the tell-tale signs of their coming and going almost always included the death of innocents.

Yet this time, it was not fist and sword that he would wield in response to such events. Not anymore. His bones still creaked from the generations of that had only been so recently washed away. But at least his knees now functioned and the ever present ache in back was now only a memory. To get used to a youthful body again would be a job, but the not the job of today. Today he would take upon his Duty to see what aid he could bring to this nearby town. And aid he brought.

Shimeji was a short man. A short beastkin. A fox, to be specific, obviously the best kind of beastkin, tied with the rather virile bunnies. He walked along the paths to the tent now set up. He was dressed in fine robes. The ornamention identified nobility, yet the elaborate tailored cuts hinted at practicality of movement. Exemplified by the fluid grace of his movement, hampered only by an aged gait and a simple cane to help walk. Flanked by five rather lovely women in the dress of maids. Maids with hatches holsters at their hips.

"Oho, one should never discount the value of increasing morale." The foxman said as he entered the tent. Havimg caught wind of the conversation of the one who arrived just before he did. "Too many long faces among the survivors here. Understandably so... there is no smiling to be had after an encounter with demons..."

"Yet we may wish to be more tactful about implementing any festivities just yet. The townsfolk have suffered great loss. Loved ones, children, family, friends. They need to grieve first, before we force happiness on them. Else we be seen as unfeeling or uncaring. But perhaps, once the village has been rebuilt. Stronger, fuller. Then such a festival would be better suited. To remember those lost. And to let them know that such a thing will not happen again. A promise to themselves. And a promise from us to them."

"Ohohoho, but forgive, I did not mean to intrude." He said and bent low into a bow towards Linneus. "I am Baron Shimeji Dashi von Pendragon, newly appointed to the Pendragon Barony. I am sorrow that our first meeting is happening with such an event behind it, to that end I must not say that it is a pleasure... but I did not wish to miss being able to aid where I could."

"After the unfortunate mess that befell the prior Baron and his wife, our coffers are understandably rather dry. But with what I have, i was able to bring what supplies I could to help. I have brought what food we able to purchase, and what building supplies we gather from our estate. My wife, too, she will be bringing further supplies for the townsfolk. She is in the process of bring them in now."

Dashi turned back to the maids who waited just outside tent, "You may leave us. Go tend to the townsfolk. Bring them water, food, and help them clean. Quickly now, shoo, make yourselves useful, good girls." Amd with that, they scampered off after a quick salute.

To make a purchase, and to grease either wheel or palm, or even just help a fellow out, a bit of gold makes everything a little easier. Improving morale and opinion, or helping overcome obstacles. Sometimes its as easy as flashing a few coins. Gold: the language everybody understands, and a little charity can go a long way.

Alternative, can be used for funding groups, however with the spread out nature of supplying money for such causes or projects, may not be as effective as it would be on an individual basis, per narrators discretion.

Retili had been walking for hours along the small road in the hot afternoon sun. Thankfully a large portion of the road was hidden under the sun and kept most of the heat off of his back. It was days like today that he wished he had the expertise to tailor a more breathable robe. The one he had seemed to just absorb all the available heat it could. It was like being in a walking oven. Part of him wished his skin wasn't so sensitive, it would be nice to strip off the thing to make walking more comfortable. As he crested a small rise to the north he stopped and fished out a small leather canteen of water. He took a long draft of the leathery tasting liquid. It never seemed to take long for water to take on some sort of flavor from these types of canteens.

As he drank he looked over the village before him. Evidently it was under a large amount of construction, workers built homes, unloaded stone bricks for a bridge, and hauled timber to and from different sites. There was a distinct metal ringing in the air, the tell tale sign of a blacksmith hammering out new nails for homes from ore. Whatever had happened, be it a large fire or an attack, some evidence was still around the area and Retili took it in as he looked around. Abruptly he stopped gazing around, coming to the end of the water in the canteen. He turned the thing upside down in an effort to get the last few drops of water. Leathery or not, it tasted remarkably cool, likely on account of how hot it was outside. He frowned and put the stopper back in the bottle, then started walking down the hill. Hopefully they'd have a well in the village. If not he would fill his canteen at the river.

As he walked into the village a few stopped to gawk at his strange attire. Not many folks chose to wear a cowled cloak, veil, and leather gloves in the heat of a summer sun. It might have been an odd experience for some to see the Zentail but none would be able to see his features really. He stopped briefly by the well, waiting patiently as others used it, then filled his canteen from a wooden bucket. Afterwards he looked around curiously. There was a gazebo with some comings and goings from some of the foremen of the jobs being done. His curiosity was piqued, perhaps he could meet someone rather interesting in there. Not to mention he wanted to share the shade if only for a moment. The heat seemed to pound down into the village. He walked quietly up to the pavilion and entered, listening as two others who had entered before him spoke. He wondered bemusedly for a moment if anyone would even have noticed him entering, small as he was.

"What a horrible sight" Peng thought to himself as his eyes scanned the charred remains of the village that was Redcliffe. Sure reconstruction efforts had begun, but it was still in the very early stages. That meant the devastation that had racked the village was still on almost full display. He tore his eyes from the sight and focused on the road ahead, making sure to properly direct the driver of the wagon he was on to their destination. While the Baron he had been hired by had gone ahead, Peng was hired to help with the overseeing of supplies. The wagon train slowed down by the weight of the materials mean they had gotten there later then Baron Daishi, but not too much later.

With a waive of his hand he motioned for the wagon train to come to a stop and one by one the carts carrying the supplies commissioned by the Baron pulled into what use to be the square. Climbing down from the wagon, he adjusted the front of his cloak to make sure it was still covering his face from the mouth down and then made sure that his cap was still sitting neatly on top of his head. He turned to address the group he was tasked to oversee, "Get the supplies ready to disembark, but do not unload it just yet. Wait until we receive confirmation from the Baron. Until then see to the animals, make sure to give them both a little bit a food and water. Just enough to regain their strength but not too much that they will slow down from over indulgence." He waited for a moment to see that his orders were followed. Satisfied that they were, he turned and made for the main pavilion.

Swiftly Peng approached the Gazebo and passed by the Baron's maids. They were a unique group, that was too be sure. Powerful people need unique groups, it would be interesting to see what kind of Unique group this Count Light had in his employment. He did not enter into the tent, instead he stopped outside and waited to the side of the entrance for a chance to speak with the Baron. His business was not urgent enough to interrupt the conversation of two nobles. The heat did not bother him as much as it would others either. Despite wearing robes the white coloring made them much cooler then other more traditional robes. Even though he was still outside he couldn't help the temptation of glancing inside to see if he could see any one. He was disappointed when he saw the group inside surely was a unique cast.

The planning was progressing, slowly, but progressing all the same and that was all Linneus could ask for. He pressed a goblet of water to his lips and before he could even quench his thirst, a feminine voice interrupted him and drew his attention from his cup. every head turned to see the unfamiliar face. Right away Linneus' swordsmen stepped forward, intending to escort the woman from the gazebo, but Linneus raised his hand and silently commanded them to cease. Ge looked down to the rather short woman and put on a smile. She must have been one of the residents' children. "A...siesta? I'm sure we might be able to find space for something like that." The smile stayed on his face and he spoke as if he was speaking to a very young child, despite the woman's choice of words. He turned around to grab a goblet of water for the little pink-haired figure before another figure entered the gazebo and their words demanded his attention.

As he turned back around, Linneus handed the goblet to the young lady and looked to Dashi, the newest member of the County of Light nobility. He had been kept up to date on the changes occurring in the Pendragon Barony by his advisors and while he hadn't expected to see the newly appointed baron so soon, he was glad to have him here. he had seen very few beastmen and seen even fewer so up close, so this was somewhat exciting for the young Count. "We greatly appreciate your being here, Lord Pendragon." Linneus started. "Whether the site of a great misfortune or the hall of a castle, it is always a great feat for a people to come together and do good. And in your case, you are helping twice over by joining the Pendragon Barony and by being here." Linneus had to say that he was grateful someone stepped up to help the house of Pendragon. The county had enough to deal with without having to wrestle collapsing houses back to prosperity. "We could use the opinion of another experienced mind. Should we build a keep atop the hill to offer sanctuary to the people or reconstruct the old estate to provide a place for noble visitors to stay. What do you think should be done with the space?" Linneus knew what he would do with the space, regardless of what others thought, but inquiring as to Dashi's point of view would reveal just what he would prioritize.

Peng would be noticed by the Count, but also by some of the citizenry, primarily the elderly women. "You're a mage ain'tya?" One woman nagged before she prodded the young man with her cane. "Can't you summon some rain down? Or cook up some clouds to shield us from the sun?" The lady stared at him with intense focus, demanding answers and action. "Yeah! Make with the magic kiddo!" Another woman insisted.

Retili would slip under the Linneus' radar; however, the soldiers under his command would take notice. The one nearest Retili would place his hand upon the hilt of his blade and clear his throat. "Ahem." He approached the strange figure with a cautious look upon his face. "Are you here to see the Count?" Linneus had commanded the soldiers to permit the people to seek shelter in the shade so long as they didn't disturb the work that was being done. This man seemed....peculiar however so he was worth checking first.

Zahrah was a bit surprised when they ended up lectured by someone whom didn't even know what they were talking about. The latter was a sin that was quickly forgiven though. “No, no, mister with the most gorgeous looking foxy fur~” Zahrah said, turning towards Shimeji, shaking their head. “What you're talking about is a fiesta, I'm talking about a siesta~ It's an extended break you take when the day is at its hottest. In turn, you work earlier in the morning and later in the night, when the sun isn't burning you down and it's cooler. It's known to be very effective at preventing folks from overheating and making sure they keep working with good enough motivation~ After all, it's better to nap away the heat and work when it's nicer out!” When Zahrah heard Dashi command the odd maids, they got a bit excited. After all, they were clearly instructed to go do the good work! “Good luck to you, miss, miss, miss, miss and miss! Let me know if you need help, I can do a bit of seaming!” They said, as they waved the five maids goodbye.

Short after, Zahrah, accepted the cup of water, but just held it. After all, they didn't want to get their insides wet right now, even though they'd probably dry easily in this heat. Considering Zahrah was already there, they didn't hold back on interrupting a conversation that was clearly not intended for them to answer. Privacy was overrated anyway. “Well, you'd surely bring the most happiness to people if you build a keep for them, or a really fancy town hall~ Besides, wouldn't the richer visitors want to stay a bit outside the town proper, away from the commoners and their commoner things and, their words, not mine, the peasant's filth? Just build them some fancy villa on the outskirts instead, make it a bit of an estate while at it~” Zahrah, even without databases, was pretty confident that they still retained enough knowledge to deal with these types of questions. Whether that was overconfident of them or not, it surely didn't seem to bother them.

The conversation so far wasn't terribly interesting. He hadn't caught what the androgynous person standing before the count had said before he had entered the tent, but the gentle response to their words had Retili thinking that the man behind the table, whoever he was, wasn't taking their words entirely seriously. He was in the middle of watching the interaction between the man who was introduced as Pendragon when the soldier cleared his throat and let his hand rest upon his hilt. Retili held his hands up in a placating gesture to the soldier. "Peace stranger, i'm no threat. Simply looking for a moment or two of shade and a bit of information. I've been traveling a while across this fair land and i'm weary from the day." His voice was quiet and unthreatening. (Skill use: Persuasion F) He reached up and drew back the black cowl and veil to reveal his face, his silver beard, pale skin, and black scar drawing into view. "My apologies if i've intruded inappropriately."

As the sun's intense Summer heat blazed down on the Sol County, most people still out and about would find themselves utterly exhausted by the hot weather. While some are forced to work under the afternoon blaze in utter discomfort, others wisely retreat to the cool embrace of shade and wait for the day to cool into the late-day. Even with the forest providing ample places for travelers to rest and cool off, the overall humidity was enough to make anyone feel unmotivated to continue onwards. Yet few, if any, choose willingly to brave the smoldering heat in order to make whatever ends meet.

Fewer still seem to travel without feeling any such negative affects.

For the gunslinger, Jebidiah Boone, it has been nearly three whole days since he started his northward journey from the south. He was covered from head to toe in thick layers of clothing, mostly made of leather-hide and cotton respectively, as he carried a large sack full of his supplies in one hand. Not a single inch of exposed skin could be seen on him; not even his own eyes being currently blocked by black sunglasses. Wearing such an attire in this weather seemed like suicide; where you'd find yourself baking alive while drowning in your own sweat and saliva.

But the kicker?

He hadn't stopped to rest a single time at all, since leaving the quiet town of "Ber'nickel" three days prior.

This was quite a herculean task; one only a well-fitted super human or an animated golem could accomplish. One utilizing immense endurance and strength and armed with indestructible courage and drive, could feasibly do it on a physical level. A mage, or magus, could conjure a spell to ensure they never tired or have a need to consume nutrients or liquids. Maybe it could conjure up its own air conditioning to make it bearable, isolating its incredibly sensitive skin from burning up? However, Jebidiah didn't seem to fit any of such categories. He wasn't ripped; nor did he wield magic... at least not in the ways many assumed.

His secret?

Jebidiah James Boone is a skeleton.

Being a bone man has its perks. For one, Jeb doesn't need to eat or drink; meaning he doesn't need to burn up calories to make energy for his muscular system. Only the power of the damned, however the hell that works, allows him to move forward for about as long as his bones function. He doesn't even need to worry about drowning in water or suffocating in mud or quicksand, although he finds the latter to be very claustrophobic. Without a circulatory system, poison doesn't really work on him either - unless it somehow specifically affects his bones, but even so such probability was rare. He can smoke all the cigarettes and cigars all he wanted; lung cancer be damned! Best of all, he can see in the dark; allowing him to travel at night without the use of torches or other external methods of light. All are very great perks to have. Surely there's no downsides to being a skeleton, right?

Well... There is one glaring downside.

Everybody hates skeletons.

This was a warning that brazed into Jeb's subconscious by the Necromancer who brought him into this world. A close shave with a random outlaw during his first week on the High Desert also taught him first hand the dangers of his title and how to keep low with his identity under wraps... literally. This is why he travels with all this clothing on him. If anyone got a peak at his skeletal appendages, he would be in grave danger. He didn't want to risk that. So he made sure each piece of clothing was fastened securely on his body, enough to make him look like a normal person at least. If that didn't work, he always carried a trusty "magic" revolver on hand as a last resort. But so far, his costumes seemed rather convincing enough for him to get by from one quiet town to the other.

Sure, Jeb could just stuff himself in a coffin or dungeon and live a solitary life without seeing anyone, but he had aspirations. Aspirations that echoed from his past life... both as he lived and how he died twice. And in order to accomplish these goals of his, he would need to interact with society to make ends meet. So long as he kept low, keep his true identity covered, and worked hard, he might see his goals accomplished one day; or at the very least live to see the next day in one piece...

Forking over the hill on the local path, Jebidiah would eventually come across the village of Redcliffe. It looked to be in pretty rough shape, even from where he stood now, with plenty of buildings being in need of repairs. It seemed to have been this way for awhile, yet there's plenty of signs that repairs and renovations were proceeding slowly by the locals. For a moment, the skeleton considered avoiding the place, wanting not to risk exposing himself, but he was down on one valuable item...

Money.

Jeb spent the entirety of his already sparse currency on a pack of smokes and a long wavy brown wig in the last town with the money he gained from his last gig as a bartender. His pockets were bone-dry; lacking even a single copper to his name. So if there was one place where he could get paid, it was here. He expected to join in with the labor force, but really the gunslinger was itching for a chance to unload hot led into hunting animals or killing hostile men. Either or was fine really, so long as he got paid for his efforts. Before making his way into town, Jeb quickly reached into his sack and pulled out a fake bushy reddish-brown beard, wrapping it around his mouth. It matched his long red wig, now completely covering his skull, with any exposed parts covered by the red cloak over his head and under his broad hat. He even proceeded to give himself a new nickname.

[ "CURRENTLY DISGUISED AS 'GEORGE C. BAKER'" ]

Once he got his new identity in place, Jebidiah waltzed down the hill and straight into town. While heading towards the main head of operations, he'd see the laborers hard at work, carting stones, setting up wooden housing frames, supporting bridge foundations, and so forth. No worker was ever standing still for long, always having a purpose and having something to do. Few bothered to look up at the newcomer, even as he was wearing a fairly out-of-place outfit at first glance, with those looking only briefly before heading back to their tasks at hand. Fine with him. That mean't he shouldn't be bothered with many pestering questions; so he hoped anyways. There were plenty of unique faces here already~

If he can just pass the job interview, it should be smooth sailing from here on out.

Reaching the main tent, Jebidiah raised the flap and - after clearing his "throat" - proceeded to enter. Making his acquaintance alongside a colorful cast of characters, he slowly approached the Count with a friendly demeanor. "Well, howdy there!" he spoke energetically in a high-pitched gravely "southern" accent, akin to an old geezer, " Heh heh, why please pardun my sudden appearance in this 'ere lovely establishment ya got goin' on, but it seems that y'all are lookin' for folks to help around 'ere with the muscle-in' and tusselin, right? Why if yer willin' to have meh around, I swear on my mama Beckie I'd be havin' a hell-fired pleasure of workin' my darnest on anythin' y'all need - no job be too big or small for yer's truly - so long the pay's good of course!"

This man seemed....peculiar however so he was worth checking first.

conman2163 conman2163 Dante Verren Dante Verren D. Rex D. Rex Elvario Elvario
The fox turned his attention back to the Count and bowed his head in appreciation of the appreciation. And answered the question quite directly. "My Lord, I do believe that current events have made the answer to that question rather clear. If demons did this once, they very well may do so again. They are not ones to pass up on an easy target. I would not out it past them to return to finish their handiwork. A keep, I believe, would most beneficial. But you are mistaken in the believe that the options are mutually exclusive. A keep can be more than a simple building to hide in. With all that space, you might as well use it. Quarters for Nobility could be easily fashioned into the construction. Like a small castle, if you will. Business of the town can be conducted there for the populace to gain a familiarity with the keep so that can better travel to there place within it. Furthermore, if Nobility feel safe enough there, that same sense of safety will also make the townsfolk feel the same. So would it also be wise to put all towns in your territories under alert."

"But a keep alone won't do much... it would be little more than a death trap. One would need to make sure there are defenses, to give time for townsfolk to retreat, and defenses to stave off a siege. And of course, the encouragement of a town militia to man it all. Of which I intend to create one myself in my Barony, to add to our military."

After which, Dashi would jump in for the defense of Peng from the predation of the elderly, "My dear woman, this is Master Peng. He is in my employ as an Overseer of the goods being delivered. Do not treat him so harshly. Relief is underway as we speak."

"But my goodness, quite the crowd is gathering here. It certainly will not make the shade of the tent feel any cooler." Dashi spoke and bowed to the Count. "My Lord, I beg your leave that we may speak at a more opportune time. But the woman have spoken, and I believe it best we hurry out with some refreshments. A siesta, if you will."

Baron Dashi cleared his voice and spoke to those in the tent, "For those of you seeking work, I have just that, with some coin to go along with it." (To anyone who wishes to split off to spare a crowded room)

"And Master Cowboy, I can certainly take you up on that offer of musslin', that you may leave today with some money in your pocket." Develius Develius

"And Master Peng, if you would be so kind to join me. I believe we best be handing out our delivery before the women do us in, hohoho. Besides, we have you some muscle to oversee." Dante Verren Dante Verren

With that, the Fox man left the tent to head back down to where Peng had left the supplies. And conversate in the process.

"Deary me... demons. Always an unfortunate affair... where there are one, there will be more. All the more important that we see to the defense of the County. I dare say we may very well be seeing more of them in the future. All the more important we find those who can help defend these lands. There are never any shortage of adventurers willing to take up the call," he said gesturing to the cowboy, "But wanderlust takes them, and so few wish to lay down roots in the defense of one area."

"So much to prepare for and so little time. But we must work with what we have. Help those around, as in times of dire straights, we will need all the help we can get."

As Peng waited for his turn to speak with the Baron, he glanced at another odd man who walked past him into the shade of the tent. The man was definitely odd and very slightly reminded him of something that he had seen a long time ago. What was it.... that was right. The Westerners called them cowboys. The memory brought a fowl taste in his mouth as it dug up different memories, many of them with unsatisfying feelings attached to them. Luckily he didn't really have a chance to focus them, as something almost as unpleasant started to berate him.

Elderly women who had gone almost mad in the blazing heat had started to turn their attention on him, demanding he bring rain and refreshments. While their actions annoyed him, and even slightly enraged him when one started to jab at him, he made no moves nor said anything. Respect for the elderly was something he had been raised with, even if they were unpleasant elderly. So he bowed his head in apology, said nothing, then went back to staring forwards at the tent fabric. It would not be long for the Baron to take notice of his presence. Though before that Peng made sure to take note of the Baron's suggestion for the Keep. It was a good one, but not perfect and could use improvement. It did show the Baron's heart was in the right place.

"Of course Baron" he replied then fell in line behind his employer. His gaze followed the gesture to the cowboy and nodded slightly. "That is true, the spark of wanderlust does dwell in the hearts of some adventurers, but not all of them. For most common adventurers, those with the skillset rivalling a normal soldier or even maybe a knight can be persuaded to stay in one area as one of it's protectors given the right encouragement. After all if you make a place feel like an adventurer's home, then they will rush to defend it to the very end, no matter how far away they are. At least that is what I believe."

Tyrmar

Standing underneath a shaded tarp, covered from the beaming from of the sun and standing by Count Light’s side. That’s how any common knight would be spending their time in Redcliff, however the count had plenty of worthy knights that have protected him for far longer, and so Tyrmar found himself not among gleaming mails and noble fabrics but before the peasantry being put to work.

“Alright everybody who’s next?! ORDER UP!” It had been so long since he’s had the chance to test his skills beyond cooking that he’d forgotten what it felt like to have chef tools in hand. The people of the town were hungry, exhausted, weary and overall hot, so he felt the need to improve the morale of nothing else.

And what better way to do that then with a well cooked meal!

As he prepared his [Familiar Feast] he much less followed exact instructions moreso then he picked up ingredients by instinct, going through the crowd of civilians he was able to discern the general mood to the best of his abilities and this did his best to date their appetites with what was available.

Freshly picked fruits were cut, garnished and paired in an elegant display.

The meats and veggies that were brought along were of a great quality and found themselves count into equal thick chunks to be separated. One by one they were skewered atop sticks and grilled to perfection over fire before getting lightly seasoned.

Finally to cap off the meal and help combat the searing rays of the sun, Tyrmar took up the lemons that he’d procured and found himself processing them properly and alongside a few cups of sugar providing ice cold lemonade for all.

Using a mix of his [Leadership E] and [Persuasion E] he coordinated some of the villagers to get a rotation set up for the food to keep people working yet relaxed, all the while he continued cooking, his shirtless form bearing an apron and a white cloth binding his hair as he laughed, cooked and commanded other chefs for the people of Redcliff and any others who’ve come to help.

“Remember people there’s no need to rush, Chef Tyrmar is here to make sure you all have the energy to get your home into tip top shape!”

Skills Used: Familiar Feast - [Domestic Arts] E, [Empathy] E - By sensing the emotions and feelings of those around him at any given time Tyrmar can prepare meals that will trigger or help accompany their mood - E Grade - 1 Post Cooldown.

1660860832249.pngCount Linneus Light
Time of Day: 11am
Weather: Clear skies, Sunny, HOT
OOC Post freely going forward, posting orders within groups should be worked out between participants

Linneus didn't want to say it, but this little girl who seemed to be with no one, was pretty chatty. He didn't say anything however and instead kept that thought to himself. It was his hope that the people would feel comfortable enough to approach him. He wasn't familiar with the word Siesta so he was glad that she explained it to Dashi, but after learning what it meant he wasn't too sure that he was in favor of the idea. "The work here is already behind and long overdue. The work is arduous, but those I've hired will be compensated well for their services." Linneus didn't plan to hand out day time breaks just because it was hot, but he had no problem handing out coins to those that deserved them. Plus as Dashi said, he had bought refreshments for the people.

Dashi...he was just the mind that Linneus needed at his side. The man was wiser thanks to time and personal experience. Where he lacked military knowledge and the skills to profitiently protect the county, the fox noble had all that in abundance. It was also clear that Dashi was a leader as he attempted to wrangle the citizens and travelers into work. While he didn't agree with multipurposing the Keep, Linneus could see that Dashi prioritized the people and their protection before the comfort of nobles, even if only a little bit. When Dashi requested he take his leave, Linneus nodded and gestured to the exit. "I would not hinder anyone from helping the people. We will have to revisit the discussion of a...siesta, but for now we will allow it as the heat today is unrelenting. I will be here."

Linneus looked to the man in the wide brimmed hat and one of his brows quirked up as a curious expression formed on his face. "I wouldn't dare underpay someone for an honest day's work, Sir. Wages are also negotiable. Follow Lord Dashi and he'll see you're put to work and fed." The Count smiled innocently as he sent the outsider on his way. Although the fellow was peculiar, it warmed his heart to see people coming to help and being able to offer to give them something in return.

What really caught Linneus' attention was the presence of a very unique person on the opposite side of the gazebo. "What sort of information are you hoping to gleam from this gazebo?" Linneus questioned loudly as he looked to the stranger. "I am Count Linneus Light and I would be glad to answer any questions you might have." He waved his hand at the soldier, instructing the man to stand down. "What do they call you?"

Across the square, Tyrmar's cooking had gathered a crowd, a very hungry and thirsty one at that. Peasants and craftsmen alike were in line to get some of the food he had on display. For some of them this was the first time that they'd have seen anything so good. "Mm!" Someone sounded in a cheerful tone as they drank down their lemonade. "This hit the spot! Did you prepare all of this yourself?" An older gentleman asked as he approached Tyrmar. "Are you a chef of some sort?"

Tyrmar
Seeing the masses gather with hungry bellies and drooling lips truly amused Tyrmar to no end, in the lull between serving and cooking he turned to the man who approached him. “Ha me a chef?! I’m afraid not though I thank you for the compliment, after all can’t you tell just from looking at me?” Raising his arm he formed a solid muscle and gripped his biceps for the old man and villagers to see while flashing them a grin.

“I’m simply a warrior under the Counts employ here to help with the reconstruction. While I can’t say I can provide much help as a whole, I sincerely hope these meals will help ease you all while we continue to rebuild.”

As Retili had made his case to the soldier in front of him, others had made their way out of the gazebo. He noted the going of quite a few of the strangers, including the energetic one with pink hair. It seemed the suggestion had not gone over well with who he assumed was the lord of the village. Retili was just about to make another attempt at placating the soldier once again when the lord cut in, asking him his purpose. In response Retili smiled graciously and bowed before returning to his previous standing posture. "My name is Retili my Lord, Retili Loxinofican. Wanderer and scribe sir. I've been traveling your fair land for many days now." Retili's words were warm. "I am also a bit of a traveling scribe. I try and keep notes on all my comings and going throughout this fair place, and where possible I try and assist others. To that point, I find myself before you my lord. I don't suppose you'd have any use for a scribe?" Retili rather hoped the lord would. It would be nice to have a place to stay for a while, even just a day or two.

George nodded gratefully at the Count's kindness and understanding. "M-Much obliged, my lord!" he announced with an ecstatic wheezy laugh, bowing twice while firmly holding his hat, "You truly be a saint to behold! I won't let ya down boss, honest! Or else my name ain't George C. Baker!" He almost made the movement to shake the man's hand, yet he made sure to hold back at the last moment. Despite his fingers being wrapped in cloth bandages and covered by gloves, he wasn't going to risk outing himself this early; no siree. He had been duped before by very "handsy" people, who feel every single ligament and joint of your hand with just a firm shake alone. Either they gave him a suspicious look or immediately identified him as a certified bone-man, shooing him off and/or trying to dismantle him.

As he ended the conversation, he could see across from them a knight cooking up a feast for the starved masses in town square. Boy was he quick on the draw, serving plates of fresh produce and seared meats all topped off with some fresh ole' lemonade for a drink. Even without a stomach did George feel a lil' undead neuron activate a ghost sensation within his conscious, reminding Jebidiah underneath about all the BBQs and parties he's been. Bits of sweetness and savory dazzled sub-consciously with a sprinkle of bitterness, sour-hints, and salty aftertastes. He almost missed those days. After all, it's been so long since he took a savory bite or a long sip of anything not related to the faint taste of tobacco and smoke, that he nearly forgot how everything tasted. Still, he at least pretended to take interest before peering away.

The cowboy turned his attention to Lord Dashi and tipped his hat in greetings. "So waddya want me to start workin on first, boss?" he asked with the same jovial eagerness. He also noted the other wrapped-up individual, referred as "Master Peng". He overheard several of the rattling hags outside demanding that he summon some rainclouds to stave off the heat and give them refreshments. George assumed he was a mage of some kind, or wizard, whatever the appropriate term was. Hadn't see many of them in his travels outside of the odd robed figure or someone reading a self-turning book.

As they made their way out, Lord Dashi would lament regarding the demons and their troublesome ways. He suspected that more would come soon and that the folks here are finding those willing to defend the territory from their loathing prodders. George's expression seemed to lighten up as Peng continued to give the same sentiment, who mentioned those with skillsets up for the task being persuaded to stay in the same place so long as the encouragement was right.

"Well, I thought ya'll 'd never ask! If ya'll need someone to hol' the law in these here parts, ya've found the right man fer that!" George remarked gleefully to the two Masters as he took out his magic revolver for the folks to see, even spinning it around his index finger as a trick, "Old Betsy 'ere may look like childs-play compared to some o' the bigger arms, but I assure ya it can pack one 'ell of a whallop. Just lead me to them sinners and watch it rip through em like~"

Once exiting the tent with Peng and Lord Dashi, his conversation would be interrupted by a maid making her acquaintances to both Lord Dashi and Peng respectfully. George simply tipped his hat. "Why howdy there, missy." he addressed her kindly, "What's a folk like yerself doin' round here?"

"Heh the Count." The man started with a scratchy voice. "That kid couldn't find his way out of a paper bag with two holes in it." He held up two fingers and waved them around in Trymar's face, emphasizing his frustration. "I'm going to tell you what no one else will kid; his gold ain't worth it." He chugged down the rest of his lemonade, letting some spill down his greying beard before he placed in back down on the table.

"The village was attacked by demons and where was he? Playing with adventurers while lowlife mercenaries burnt our homes to the ground " The man's face contorted as if there was a nasty taste in his mouth and he shook his head. "Then weeks go by before he even visits our little village and we're supposed to be so grateful for his kindness?" The old man spit a lemon seed out of his mouth towards Tyrmar's feet. It was disappointing, to say the least. The fox man had excused himself, before really giving them a more decent reply. Then the count himself entirely ignored the fact that introducing a siesta would increase productivity, rather than decrease it. Well, he did agree with having it on this particular day, so that was in a win in Zahrah's book. Still, they felt like they weren't treated quite as they hoped to be, especially as their advice on keeping the keep as a keep was ignored. Was it because they were no longer a super-intelligent A.I. with access to thousands upon thousands of databases and a computing power that would put anything else to shame? That was probably it. He couldn't blame them. This odd body surely was a lot more limited in function, when it came to analysis and whatnot, so their words had a lot less weight to them. Either way, Zahrah wasn't going to give up that easily. “No, no, no! It's not about adding breaks, it's about changing working hours. Rather than one continuous working day, you have an early shift and late shift that are longer to compromise for the lack of work during the siesta. That way, people spent most of their working time out of the heat and are a lot more productive during the hours they work, as those are cooler and easier to work in! So all in all, people work the same amount of time, just in better and more productive conditions. It's a tried and proven method, I promise!” Zahrah, now feeling challenged to convince the Count, added some [Persuasion E] to those words.

Their attention was then turned towards Retili, as they followed the count's gaze towards them. Unlike the count, however, Zahrah was concerned about something. “With all due respect, mister scribe, you look kind-off sickly. Is that how all of your people look or are you perhaps not feeling well?”

After all if you make a place feel like an adventurer's home, then they will rush to defend it to the very end, no matter how far away they are. At least that is what I believe."

Baron Dashi rubbed his fuzzy chin with a thumb and forefinger, had it really been so long that he had forgotten why he chose here of all places to settle down? Of all the places he could have gone, he had chosen this region of Ryke all those years ago. Yes, it was in part the solitude, but that could have been found anywhere. But no... it was the memories he had.

"I suppose you are correct, Master Peng. Yes. I suppose you are. It would then be no wonder why so many frequent the Capital instead. With the Guild there, and all. I too remember considering that hall a home during my youth. And thinking back, I knew quite the few who considered themselves heroes of one town or the other."

"Perhaps, then, if I seek to bring in heroes and adventurers, then I should I should set about creating such encouragement. Varied though that may be. What might you suggest, that might be established for a place to feel like home for such individuals?" Dashi was an adventurer once, so he had some ideas of his own. But he wanted to pick Peng's brain on the subject. The man seemed more astute than the run of the mill people in this world. He was curious to know.

Seeing Claudia come up the hill to meet them, Dashi put on a soft smile with her greeting and curtsy, even a partial one with her load. So well mannered were his maids, they did him proud. He really would have had a hard time picking a favorite, so many wanted to join him on this venture to the Barony that the only way to bring about order was Majordomo Erland's firm paw, and him making all the maids draw straws. Though he would be lying if he didn't say he wasn't pleased to have Claudia along.

"It is all well, dear. And is a shame, about the horse." He said with a shake of his head, "Unfortunately these things can not be helped. These things happen. I hope you were able to see it had a humane end, if it was too far gone. Goodness knows the creature would have suffered enough with such an affliction without succumbing to it on its own." And yes, he had known what she had meant. A good thing it was done, as he had trusted it would be. One less issue for Katriel to worry about, and once less vermin infesting the Barony.

"Our travels went smoothly, we made good time under Master Pengs supervision. My wife is not too far behind, as we ourselves have only just arrived. We actually heading back down to the carts to see things unloaded and distributed. A good thing you arrived when you did, your talents will be indispensable in preparing some of the food. We can lift some of these peoples spirits. We have enlisted Master Baker here in our efforts."

"And would you be a doll and ready my pipe for me, please? Thank you."

He would let Claudia answered the cowboys question herself.

"Well, Master Baker, the first thing we must tend to is seeing our donations properly unloaded and distributed. More muscle is always handy in these situations. But one must always be on the lookout for trouble makers who wish to filch supplies or other jnsavory things. It will be nice to have a bit of extra deterence. Though I belive things may have calmed down enough here that I think such a problem would be unlikely."

There was a twinkle in the fox's eye as Baker made his offer and flourished his firearm. "Ohohoho, a bit of an adventurer yourself, are you? Yes, yes you must be. I do not get to see many guns myself these days. A common favorite among those from... far off lands. A unique thing they are here in Ryken, albeit most of the readily available ones seem to lack the punch of the ones back home, don't they?"

Baron Dashi chuckled and gave a smile, "I assure you, cowboy, that I am well familiar with what old Betsy is. And what such things are capable of. Miss Claudia here carries a rifle herself, she has used it in my presence many times." He informed as he gestures to the M1-Garand replica that Claudia had in her possession.

"Oh but I can't help but go on tangents. Ahem, your offer. So fancy yourself a lawman, then? A bounty hunter perhaps? Regardless, I do not know so much about here in Redcliffe, but back at my Barony we have been having issues in weeding out the outlaws who had made my Barony in the shambles that it is in. With as much cleaning up I have to do, I certainly would not say no."

It all had happened so suddenly that the wedding ring on her finger still felt so foreign to here; she couldn't help but see it as a luxurious form of enslavement. She has seen her mother put up with a miserable man all her life and all it got her was prison time. She was one of the first to testify, against both of them. She wanted to throttle the reporter whom called her 'cold' even-though the people she was testifying against deserved far worse. She didn't care if they were her family, they made a mockery of a surname she was bound to by blood and pride, and they thought the loving thing to do is trample on it? She loathed to admit it to him directly lest she inflate his ego, but Shimeji was already leaps and bound better than the trash that loitered her home. She would never forget the countless nights she had sleep for dinner in a home most people could only dream of living in.

"
The summer allergies must be getting to me, getting distracted at a time like this" The Baroness refocused her attention to the knitting project she had been involved in on their trip from Morbella, though she showed no sign of sniffles so such a white lie was strange since she valued honesty quite highly. She had made the bulk of her 'care packages' in her boutique, but couldn't help herself to add a few more pairs of socks. She was shrewd in her business practices, and when that carried over to people themselves. It was difficult to where see where she drew the line, some simply believing she is just her father's daughter. She had to only prove she was fit for her position and nothing more, results were key. She would only bemuse the idea of being the mafioso gangster girl she was believed to be, but in reality it made her sick. Her family was a sickness on Morbella and brought it to near collapse. She could only hoped her newfound husband could handle her family name and all the negative weight that brought.

This new venture into Redcliffe was interesting, she at first didn't see the logic in focusing their efforts outside their territory since it was in dire need of more than a little, but she couldn't argue with the situation Redcliffe was in and The Count himself. She liked to keep an interest in all families at play when she could, and heard less than desirable things. The secrets of maids and servants were oft fabricated out of spite of gain so she paid them no mind. She leaned her head out of the window and saw that the quaint town was just up ahead. She figured Dashi was already making friends and getting to the nitty gritty; She couldn't help but smile for a moment, stopping and scoffing. "Foolish" She muttered, though the context was known only to her.

Her carriage halting several feet from one she recognized as her husband's transport before the two wagons behind them swung in next to the supply carts already stationary. She waited for Superbia to open the door, and escort her out. Superbia's own maid outfit modest with maroon trimming identifying her as a 'bodyguard maid'. Katriel's dress unfurling out of the doorway like a flower reveling in the sun. Reds and golds lacquering her form in a tight fitting dress, with a feathered collar encapsulating her golden hair underneath the heat. She absolutely adored the heat and all that it brought; The estate would get so cold at that she craved dawn more than anything. She spread her arms out and smiled, giving a small spin "Such a beautiful day for business" A familiar turn of phrase Superbia has been subjected to often. Her eyes meeting her husband's as she saw him alongside some familiar faces, and some not.

She walked forth, keeping Superbia at her side always. It had become a difficult adjustment, but while Katriel found rats to be filthy vermin, she knew Rat-kin were not the same. She was skeptical about this gift of a bodyguard maid, but it didn't take long for her to truly appreciate the prodigy in her service. She expected anyone Dashi approved to be at the very least optimal, but 'Supes' had exceeded that. Kat still couldn't get over the gross tails, but it was a minor inconvenience when it came to how much of an asset she was, if only she could cook and clean half as well as Claudia. She approached Dashi and gave a curtsy and smile.
"
Ever the diligent one aren't you? I hope you haven't been waxing poetic, I see the carts have yet to emptied nor the supplies distributed. Superbia would you please help in that process? I will be fine with Dashi here." She said haughtily, turning her attention to the others accompanying Dashi. Her eyes of cobalt blue juxtaposed between icy and fascinated.

"I am glad to see that Dashi is well taken care of at the very least" The Baroness' said, eyes on Peng and Claudia. "A mind like yours is hard to come by so try not to toil over every detail hmm? if I was caught up on every stitch I would have never finished my first dress you know" She said with a wag of her finger "Claudia, you are irreplaceable-" Her eye twitched for only moment as that strange resentment once again bubbled up in her stomach; eyes with very clear frostbite radiating from them looked up her husband once more "Where are the other maids? usually they are clinging to both arms" her eyebrow quirking just slightly before a sharp breathe exited through her nose and she looked over the overtly clothed man "A new hire perhaps? I never trust someone I can't look in the eye, but I will trust the esteemed baron" She said matter-of-factly. her attention directing back to Shimeji

"I presume you've already spoken with the count hmm? I'd like to aswell, but I suspect he is quite busy so in the meantime, fill me in on any pertinent details will you? I finished my care packages, they were quite time consuming, but you did ask nicely...hmph" Turning her small nose away toward the sun as she continued with crossed arms.
"They come with an entire basic outfit; Shirt, pants, socks, shoes...the shoes were a favor from a cobbler that owed me for wedding disaster I salvaged. I even stitched together some cloth toys and the like, as favorable children produce favorable income! I didn't quite know how many villagers still...remained so I might have made more than necessary" She said with a grumble at the end, wringing her cramped hands over the nights of tireless work she spent on them.

"I do hope that will be enough for the poor things"

Peng nodded in acknowledgement of the Baron's praise and further questions. He also cast a side glance at the cowboy who had joined them, giving the man a slight nod of recognition. He turned his attention back do Baron Dashi and held up his hand that had three fingers up. "I believe there are three pillars on which that idea can be established. Faith, fellowship, and fulfillment. In the basest of sense faith applies to religious worship, but it also pertains to a wilder meaning. Primarily adventurers need to have faith in teh area. Using the county as an example, if adventurers have faith they will find success in the county they will be more likely to travel here, if there is faith they can find riches then they will be more willing to stay, and if thy have faith that they can achieve their ambitions within the lands of the county they will stay. For fellowship it is important that the county encourages social connection between the adventurers and people. It is well known that adventurers have a strong sense of comraderies between them, that same level must be extended to the people. Creation of families, connections between the local merchants or defense forces, and relations with local leadership. It is paramount that the county provide a positive connection between the adventurers and some aspect of the locals. " He paused for a moment hoping to gauge the reaction of the Baron before continuing.

After no more then a minute he continued, "Lastly is fulfillment. The most important of the three, it is important that the county provides some way to cater to the fulfillment of the adventures desires. This can be achieved through a variety ways ranging from a steady supply of quest, a solid merchant base, etc. Ultimately it is best if the county would offer a variety ways for the adventurers to fulfil their goals as to attract and retain the most adventures." As he finished he let his hand drop back to his side. He was curious to here the Baron's thoughts on his ideas. The baron seemed like a wise man, and although Peng was confident with his ideas he was under no delusion that it was perfect.

His attention was drawn from the baron as one of his many maids approached. He gave her one of his usual tips of his head in greeting, "Mrs. Claudia, there were no issues. We arrived precisely on schedule. " he replied. Peng could not really say he had much of an opinion of the Baron's servant. Other then of course the baseline caution of her. After all unlike many of the other maids, she had a certain tough air around her that encouraged a the caution in Peng. The last thing he wanted was to have a knife in his back before he was able to fulfill his own mission. His gaze turned towards the cowboy as his mind raced to try and decipher the man's weird way of talking, but like the Baron he managed to grasp that the man was asking for a job. A job that if the Baron agreed the man would have. Peng was yet to formulate an opinion on the strange man.

On the topic of women that encouraged a healthy air of caution, the Baroness shortly arrived to join their conversation. He gave a half bow to her as her eyes fell on him, but otherwise made no other moves. Her stance and very slight change in her tone when speaking about Claudia and the maids had shown that their was ever slightly a bit of marital dispute over the matter. Something that Peng was wisely going to try and stay out of. A sewing needle in his throat had the same lack of appeal that a knife in his back did.

Tyrmar
As Tyrmar listened to the greying old man lambast Linneus his smile couldn’t help but wane slightly, it’d be hard not to see the frustration on the faces of some of the villagers as they came into the town. Less to be said about what he could feel personally through the natural senses for emotions he’d developed in captivity, that subtle bubbling anger laying under the surface of ephemeral joy and sated hunger just waiting for an excuse to explode.

“I am sorry.” He bowed his head slightly regardless of how he might’ve been seen as part of the retinue he was not a prideful sort, especially when he truly had no answer for them.

Grilled meat wouldn’t return their possessions.

Laughter and jolly distractions would not give them back their peace of mind.

Promises, no matter how earnest wouldn't build trust in the people for the Count in the end, only action and deeds would prevail.

“I was not here when your home was assailed so I can’t speak to the Lord’s shortcomings or extoll his actions, I’ve only seen the lord who walked by my side as I fought to protect another’s home. I don’t believe his coming now does anything to ease the weight of what you’ve gone through, but if there is one thing that you can believe among all the honeyed words and empty promises; it is that he cares. He cares for these lands and their people even if he doesn’t understand the full responsibility of it yet. Simply give Lord Light time and I believe he will make this land flourish, for what he lacks in experience he makes up for in pure desire and want for peace and prosperity for all.” His words while flowery and long winded, backed by his [Compassionate Charisma] made him stand tall above the older man with a sympathetic face.

Abilities Used Compassionate Charisma - [Leadership] E, [Peruasion] E, [Empathy] E - Though his appearance and positive demeanor may display otherwise, Tyrmar is one who has known suffering and sorrow. Through that sadness he identifies with the troubles of others and therefore becomes able to better relate to, comfort and lead them - Grade E - 1 Post Cooldown.

Mentioning Miss Claudia, George took a good glance at the rifle in her hand. He nodded with an impressed whistle. "Well, would'ya look'it dat~ She got 'erself some fine ole' piece o' equipment, hot dang!"

While never holding or seeing one in person, aside from seeing pictures in certain newspaper articles and military recruitment papers, Jebidiah knew that she was holding a very modern and popular piece of weaponry; the M1 Garand rifle. It was rather surprising to see a maid, let alone a woman, wielding one in the environment they were in. He knew these weapons were exclusively used by the military, so what she wielded had to be a replica. That or perhaps she was a soldier in her past life and it was the real deal, but these were all just loose guesses.

Both Jeb and George were admittedly a bit jealous.

The Baron continued, having now offered the gunslinger a job as either a lawman or a bounty hunter. George's head creaked up suddenly after hearing the the latter title, giving off a wheezy giddy laugh. "Why, Boss, ya be readin' my noggin like an open book~" he replied excitedly with a light raise of his hat, "Bounty Huntin' would be my specialty. Done a few good jobs down south, but boy is competition' steeper than a cow's face, I tell ya what. So of course I'm in! Just tell me where to go and I'llllllll~"

His train of thought and words slipped as his eyes drifted onto a new character entering the scene; a beautiful blonde woman robed in fancy scarlet approaching them with another maid by her side. For a moment, it seemed like George's world had slowed down to a crawl, taking in the woman's gorgeous hot-smokin features and grace, whilst he blocked out any unnecessary and unwanted sounds around him. Her long luscious golden-blonde hair swayed through the air like an angel from heaven beyond, her smooth nearly blemish-free skin as white as snow, and her crimson lips contrasted nicely with her outfit. Yet the woman's eyes is what truly hypnotized him, both having an exotic bone-chilling dark blue that glimmered in the hot sun like dazzling jewels. He's only ever seen a few cute lookin damsels and nannies both in past and present lives, but it was a long minute since he lain eyes on someone as truly attractive as this model. Hell, this is probably the most beautiful woman he'd ever set his eye-sockets on. His stupor gaze and jaw dropped expression indeed put him in quite the daze; enough for him to sputter his words for just a moment.

George watched her speak to the Baron and others, before her head slowly turned towards the rough-in-tumble cowboy. Before he could fool himself even further, a voice sharply surged into his head "C'mon fella! Keep yer boney britches cool! Where's yer damn manners!" Jeb's sub-conscious screamed at him like a scolding mother. George quickly gathered himself back into reality, shaking his head lightly and standing at attention with a held non-existent breath.

The woman responded directly; asking if he was a new hire and that while she couldn't trust him fully as she couldn't look him straight in the eye, she trusted the baron in his decision to keep him here. Then, as quickly as it began, she finished and turned to talk to the baron again.

George would emit a relieved exhale as he took a moment to collect his shaking bones. He heard much worse things from a woman, but he took it rather positively. At least she didn't truly insult him in anyway. He waited for the baroness to finish talking before mustering up the courage to reply to her comment.

"W-Why my darl~ pardun' me," George flustered initially just to catch himself before clearing his nonexistent throat. He had to act a bit more formerly than he's used to, "Mam', milady, please, um, don't mind this heavy ole' attire of mine. The name's George C. Baker. I assure ya I mean no offense; for I be only offerin' my humble gunslingin' services to the town o' Redcliffe."

Retili had caught Linneus off guard. He was a foreigner like so many others who had shown up here today, but he was well-spoken and looking for employment? Before the Count could muster an answer, the little girl spoke up once more, this time being rude. Linneus shot her a glare, an expression of annoyance and frustration now upon his face. "I think it is time you take your leave young lady." He spared a quick glance at the nearest swordsman and then dismissively waved his hand in Zarah's direction. "It is impolite to discuss someone's appearance in such a way and perhaps when you have learned better manners, we can further discuss your ideas." At Linneus' command, a soldier approached Zarah and extended his arm out in front of her.

"This way girl." The soldier instructed with a stern tone.

"Mister Retili, please excuse her, she is not someone that I am familiar with." He hoped the man would blame the girl's youth for her unkind words and not see her as an extension of himself. "You were offering your services as a scribe? Where all have you been? Do you have any work that I might examine? My court lacks the skill of a talented scribe and I would be a fool to pass up one that seems to have been sent to my doorstep by, Leilosis." The idea of personally recruiting someone to his court for the first time was exciting, but in truth he was more interested in just reading what Retili had written. Literature was important to him and one of the things he hoped to spread across his territory.

Superbia, battle maid to the baroness, stuck by her mistress' side faithfully, and upheld all the societal customs and traditions as they made their way into the ruined village. She bowed her head in greeting to the Baron and his associates, eyeing CLaudia with masked envy. "Of course, Mistress. I will not be far though." It would be difficult to keep the Baroness safe if she was busy putting up walls and patching rooftops, but Superbia would face an hurdle in the service of the house of Pendragon. She walked away from the group, moving with an air of confidence and poise, keeping her tail from swaying so as not to attract attention to it as she moved across the city to where it seemed that someone was serving food to the needy. "Greetings." She called out to Tyrmar as she approached. "I could take over if you are in need of a break." She offered while she looked over the assortment of food that had been prepared. She had no idea that he had personally prepared this feast, but instead she simply wanted the chance to work on her skills to help her be a better maid to her mistress.

1661108264296.png

The old man couldn't explain it, but somehow he felt better about the entire situation after venting to Tyrmar and then listening to the young man. "You know what..." The cranky old timer started to slowly nod his head. "...I think that you might be right kid. With you by his side, maybe this Count won't be such a fuck up after all." The man still had his doubts, but Tyrmar had helped to ease some of his frustration and stress. The Count was young, he knew that, but that couldn't be his excuse all ways. "You stay safe young man." With his food and a refilled cup in hand, the man turned to walk away.
