Rise From Discord

In a world of constant flux, there exists beings who shape the world. These “spirits” are tasked to keeping balance between chaos and peace. They are unseen by most and work like forces of nature. The people of this world share a connection with the said spirits, each one gifted with a specific element able to gradually bend nearby forces of nature. The more diligently a person trained and dedicated themselves to the spirits, the more power they were able to control. Those who showed no interest in the spirits slowly lost their abilities.

This was the norm until one day the people of the land lost their abilities one element at a time. Not only were the abilities lost, but the world itself seemed to fall into chaos. Plants withered, winds blew with no pattern or reason, and thunderstorms appeared and disappeared at random unleashing untold destruction with it's lighting strikes. All order that previously held the world together slowly fell apart.

No one knew the reason until a powerful being wielding the ability to control all of the elements made himself known with a catastrophic display of power. He tore fissures into the earth that swallowed entire towns, cause typhoons which left nothing but death and destruction in their wake and made it rain fire with a flick of his hand.

The few humans who dared to rise up were easily destroyed. With no spirits to lend their strength, the humans were forced to bow to their new elemental king.

Unbeknownst to the new elemental god, seven children with the power of the spirits were born shortly after his rise to power. They were hidden away from the world and taught on how to use their rare gifts in the hope that they would be able to rise up against the king and restore balance to the world.

Eighteen years have passed since the king has taken over. He has noticed a shift in the balance of nature and has started to scour the earth to find this possible threat to his rule. In fear of being discovered the six have been taken to the last remaining shrine to the spirits. Hidden away and kept secret from all but a select few, they prepare for the inevitable. However time is short and soon their true tests will begin.

This will be a 7 Player RP one for each element stated below. Depending on interest I might add on more. The point of the RP is for it to be a collaborative work from everyone involved, meaning we all work together and plan ahead of time to make up the story weather it be the overall narrative or individual character arches. That being said, surprises are allowed I will be throwing in a few challenges in myself.

If you are going to participate in this RP you have to be active.

Check in once a day, this doesn't have to mean make 6-7 post's a day just simply check in to see if anything has changed or progressed. This is mostly so the RP doesn't freeze for several days and goes forgotten. Even if no posts can be made feel free to suggest ideas.

Setting
Tech Level: Steam Power

Environment:

Since the rise of the Elemental King the world has fallen into imbalance and disorder. Life is barely sustainable due to the erratic weather patterns making it difficult to grow food. Dormant volcanos in the central island of the Lina sea now glow with smoke and are actively erupting at random with no warning. Earthquakes rock the southern cities of Orjan on a regular basis. The climate is changing as time passes. The northern cold which was once limited to only the most northern parts of Assyria has crept its way south, enveloping nearly half of the country.

Culture:

The humans who were so used to their abilities being part of their day to day life had to relearn how to live without it, some finding it more difficult than others. Factions within Xi have secretly started to develop a resistance force aimed at using technology as a way to fight against the unwanted King.

All standard RpN RpN rules apply. This is a mature just be smart about it.

Powers and Abilities

All abilities will be drawn from this page essentially: Elemental Abilities

  • To start everyone will have some knowledge and mastery of their abilities however it is limited and taxing on the body.
Example: Someone who controls wind they are able to cause strong gusts and small tornado along with short bursts of wind to jump higher.

  • Some Abilities are more draining than others.
Fire and Lightning uses can create fire and electricity using their own energy, however this is very draining.
  • Water can be pulled out of the moisture in the air or ground however it takes great concentration and energy.

The filtered through the deteriorating canopy of frosted leaves casting shadows along the forest under brush. What was once a thriving forest full of life and greenery had withered from the icy cold which invaded the area. Winds wailed between distorted trunks, as it wound its way through the forest carrying the smell of decaying wood. Wilted bushes shuttered now again as some of the more resilient animals scoured the frosted earth for food. Rising from the iced forest arose several large mountains completely covered with snow.

Aisha wandered through the unfamiliar forest missing the warmer climates of her home. Her amber gaze trailed above watching the light shine off the icicles which hung off of the bare branches. Even though the place was strange and to some extent dying there was still beauty to be found. A harsh wind blew through the narrow path she had managed to find causing her to shiver and pull her cloak closer in a vain attempt to keep out the cold. “Hm… Why did this place have to be here…” She muttered quietly to herself as she pushed along the faded overgrown path.

The trees thinned as she walked the path leading up the shallow side of a low mountain. She remembered the descriptions her mentor had given her instructions on how to reach the temple, vague as they were, so far everything had worked out with minimal detours. The silver haired teen hummed softly to herself a tune she would often hear echoing around the caves as some of the other monks worked. As she gained altitude the trees grew sparse and eventually fell away. The path became obscured by layers of snow making her trek slightly harder however the stairs she sought out weren’t too far away.

The stairs wound around the mountain some parts slick with ice. Fresh snow started to fall and the wind picked up in ferocity as an approaching storm started to roll in. Thankfully her destination wasn’t much further up the mountain. She quickened her pace managing to reach a plateau where the stairs ended. It was surrounded my higher peeks that would require equipment to climb. On the far end of the peek, carved into the rock face was an intricate entrance to a temple.

“Finally” She sighed rushing inside without much of a second thought. The temperature was much warmer inside thankfully. Aisha looked around in awe at the talk ceilings and columns reminded of her home. She smiled slightly as she ventured further inside excited to explore what laid inside.

Galatea crunched her way through the four inches of snow that had fallen in the pass overnight. Her breath steamed in front of her, heavy with exertion from the morning's climb but swiftly carried away on the stiff northern breeze that seemed to constantly press against her progress.

She shielded her eyes with her leather glove covered right hand, as her left gripped casually on her ashen longbow. Heavy, grey clouds which seemed so distant hours before now threatened to bring another coating of snow. She scowled at her luck

Beside Galatea, and slightly to her right, her companion Tanaka the wolf uttered a short, low growl in his throat and then snuffed at the snow on the ground in front of him.

"Yes," Galatea said as she continued to survey the oncoming clouds, "more snow." Tanaka snuffed again and shook the light dusting of snow off of his thick coat that had been deposited ahead of the impending storm.

"No, I told you before we are not lost," Galatea chided her friend. "We just haven't yet found that spring that the elder in the village below the snow line mentioned. I'm sure once we find that, we'll see the correct pass into the height of the mountains that will take us to that lost shrine."

Tanaka paced around, clearly annoyed at their current situation. Galatea chuckled despite herself at his temperamental display which caused him to shoot her a glare from his yellow eyes. "Oh, get over yourself, Tanaka," she said as she reached down and scratched him behind his reluctant ears. "We'll find the spring soon, and then the temple before nightfall. Have I ever been wrong?"

Tanaka issued a short bark and pulled his head away from her massaging touch. He paced a few steps ahead and turned back to see if she were following.

"That was one time!" Galatea exclaimed. "Anyone could have missed what now seemed to be an obvious sign. You still won't let that go, will you?"

Tanaka answered by turning back to the trail as he bounded well ahead of his human companion. Galatea sighed and shook her head with a smile. No, I suppose not, she thought as she started off after the wolf.

Three hours later, the duo were sitting by a small fire that Galatea had coaxed from some tinder and small twigs buried under the snow next to a small, free running spring. They ate sparingly from their rations – Galatea ate some walnuts and berries that she had purchased in the last village below the snow line as Tanaka chewed on a dried strip of beef. She had replenished her water skin from the spring and they rested for an hour next to their cheery fire.

When it was time, Galatea extinguished the flames with several handfuls of snow while Tanaka drank his fill from the spring. Satisfied that all was ready, she nodded to the wolf who again bounded ahead and blazed the trail for them.

The threatening storm had held off for most of the morning and into the early afternoon, but made up for its absence as the day waned to early evening. The driving ice and snow blurred her vision, but Tanaka's sense of smell was undeterred. They continued up the slick, thin pass between large, ice covered boulders and tall conifer trees that stood in defiance of the onslaught. At long last, their cover broke and ahead the sanctuary for which they sought loomed dark and ominous.

Tanaka paused and allowed Galatea to survey the area before they proceeded. With the diminishing light and plunging temperatures, she very quickly decided that regardless of what denizens resided within the vast stone structure, they had to make their way inside or risk freezing to death in the sudden blizzard.

Tanaka waited impatiently as he sensed shelter so very near to them. At last, Galatea gave him an almost imperceptible nod and the two of them made their way across the small clearing to what she guessed was the main entrance.

There were no doors to greet them, so Galatea and Tanaka simply entered the temple to escape the howling, relentless storm that exalted in forcing them from its domain. They crept silently, her soft, snow soaked boots and his padded paws making almost no sound on the cold, stone floor.

After twenty or so feet, Galatea stopped. She crouched and opened her backpack; from within she extracted a torch and her flint kit. Several strikes later, the torch flared to life. Still crouched, with her hand hovering over the longbow lying at her side, she took a quick look around the area.

The long, stone hallway was decorated with glyphs and odd scroll works which Galatea had never seen before. What fully caught her attention were not those, nor the mosaic tile images that interspersed the varying columns. No. It was the floor.

Dust from decades of unuse laid thick across the marble floor – except for the booted prints that disturbed it. Galatea looked closer and when she compared them to her own she determined that they were merely hours old, if that.

"We're not alone," she whispered to Tanaka as she put her backpack on her back, grabbed her longbow and stood. Together, the two cautiously continued on, deeper into the complex.

Cold, Cold, Cold, Cold..AAH SCREW IT.

Jadus pressed onto a part of his body with a finger under the clothing, then sent a small charge down. It was so minute it barely chipped his reserves. Instantly the cold was not getting to him, having numbed the nerves that sent the neural impulse to go 'GODDAMN YOU'RE MIGHTY COLD'. He knew already and his body did not need to constantly remind him.

Ahhhhhh, much better.

The cold was now not so bad. Eventually the body would start feeling the cold again, as he only temporarily numbed the nerves, not completely shutting them down.

He couldn't believe he was tricked into this.

"Go to the north east temple, they said. Meet sexy shrine maidens, they said."

He sighed.

"I guess the guy did have a grudge on me for bedding his lass..."

It was a good night though, so he didn't regret it. It still wasn't what he was looking for though.

See, where many aimed for riches or glory, he wanted none of that. His parents are rich anyway and his 'skills' in the human body, interpret how you wish, could earn him shed loads. What he seeked though was the perfect woman to fall hopelessly in love with. Yet to happen, but a man can try.

As he trudged through the snow, growing increasingly bored by the second with the repeating...same...snowy terrain, he noticed something in the distance. It looked to be the temple.

"Temple, check. Sexy shrine maidens brushing front door, failed. Damn it, knew it was a waste of time. Well, may as well while I'm here."

He reached towards the front and noticed the lack of doors. Interesting. He kept walking, happy with the lack of cold now that he was out of the wind.

Jadus looked up to see the intricate decoration of the place.

"Oh...my...days. It's almost as handsome as me."

He kept walking lightly, when he heard steps ((Aisha's)). He was not the only one here.

He walked to the source of the foot tapping and spoke out in his gentle manner.

"May I be so rude as to be a guest in your presence? It seems you are also here, unless my eyes deceive me. Therefore I hope you could tell me more about this...intricate temple."

Norman pushed his way through the massive snow drifts, using his earth mastery to move at least some of the snow. Despite this progress was still ungodly slow. Norman kept forcing his way through, Stoneskin up and slightly off of his body, at least it kept the wind off of him. Norman was oblivious to the happenings of the world, driven simply by the force of the pull he had been experiencing for the last few months, always present and nagging. Most nights it prevented him from sleeping at all, sometimes he couldn't even sit long enough to eat a meal. He could feel it, he was nearing the end of his journey, the pull was almost physical now.

Norman crested a hill and stopped for a moment to survey the land and decide on his path from here. Despite the pull Norman still had to pick a path through the mountain. The pull only worked as a compass, not a map, never a map. Norman saw what looked like freshly plowed snow and decided that, despite that being the path of least resistance, he should avoid that way at all costs. Who knows who made that, might be an enemy, might be a friend, could be a beast of the mountain, better to not take my chances, I don't like the odds. Norman continued to plow out his own path in search of his goal.

Auria scaled up the sleek, ice covered steps of the mountain. She didn't dare try to fly in such temperamental weather and unsettled winds. Instead she stayed near the walls and directed the gale outwards, creating a small bubble of protection from the increasingly cold air. A tiny, agitated twitter caught her attention as a black and white nightingale hid under her long hair.

"See, this is why I told you to stay behind in the woods..." Auria reprimanded but lightly placed a bit more of the white strands around the bird to shelter it. She squinted past the heavy snowfall and could make out an outcropping that led to the what appeared to be the entrance of the temple.

Auria immediately quickened her pace and literally flew up the last few steps. She rushed inside and promptly blew the layers of snow from her attire. Sheltered from the turbulent winds, Auria slowly rose from the ground and floated down the seemingly empty corridor. She examined the complex images and marks that were carved onto the near-by pillars, tracing the lines with delicate little fingers. The symbols were similar yet strangely different from the other ruins she had come across. Her musings were momentarily interrupted as she heard a faint voice echo from further in the temple.

'The others...'
she thought in both excitement and fear. This would be the first time she would be meeting people that possessed similar abilities and wasn't exactly sure if they would be hostile or not. Auria gave them the benefit of the doubt as she hovered through the wide hallway and slowly peeked around the corner. There seemed to be only two. One male and the other, a silver haired girl.

She took a deep breath and leaned back to hide against the stone wall. Auria kept going through different scenarios of how she should introduce herself and kept shaking her head at all the possible horrible outcomes. But it seems that her planning was unnecessary as her little nightingale companion began chirping and fluttering its wings in impatience. Its calls rang out and bounced around the corridor like a handful of ringing bells. Auria immediately pressed her index finger on the front of her lips and silently shushed the bird.

Del sighed, sneezing a moment before he further fueled the small campfire he was huddling by. Outside the world seemed so angry, so cold and unforgiving, as snow whipped about wildly covering the peaks of the icy mountain, and the sigils of the mighty ruin. Del would glance out a small crack in the plaster, watching as a single crow was bounced to and fro in the winds, as if tossed by some unseen men playing catch. Del would smile uneasily, feeling sorry for the bird but all the same feeling grateful that he was no longer in the bird's position. He was safe, far away from anyone who he could hurt, or who might try to hurt him. But then why did he feel so hurt, surely he was fine He shivered once more, and glanced toward a dark empty corner, "Are you cold Agni?" he'd ask in a genuinely concerned tone. He'd pause a moment glancing back at the fire, "Yeah I know...I miss mom too" he'd say solemnly before grabbing the last thin branch he had to fuel the fire and tossing it to the pitiful flame.

Truth be told he could ignite the air itself, bask this whole shrine in flames, and be oh so warm. But Mulani wouldn't like that, he'd surely scold him for using his powers so recklessly, and he couldn't blame him. Along his journey, it seemed that all he ever did was hurt people, whether he wanted to or not didn't seem to matter in the long run, ultimately he'd crack, destroy, and run. Mulani understood, he kept him safe, but now he seldom showed himself. Del would glance around for a whisp, a spark, a sign but alas the only answer he'd have would be the flickering of flames. He's stare at the fire a while, getting lost in the ever changing landscape of brilliant orange and deep red before he'd free himself from his thoughts, turning back to the dusty corner. "Yeah, it is cold Agni." he'd mutter, sighing as he brushed himself off and took to his feet. "But how bout we find some more wood, so you can be warm?" he'd ask with as cheery a smile as he could muster, before shivering once more, now too far from the meager flames to benefit from their warmth.

Apart from his head wrappings and sandals there wasn't much to keep Del warm as he shivered away from the flames, yanking a single ragged blanket from the ground, with which he used to sleep. He'd wrap himself in the blanket, and secure it around his shoulders with a small pin, before he stepped away from the dying light of the fire.

As he walked he'd whisper things to Agni, unaware that the torches around him were being ignited as his steady footsteps broke up the monotonous silence of the shrine. Of course if he listened hard enough he could still hear the winds battering the structure, clawing at it and tearing at it, hoping for a chance to get at him. He'd shudder once more at the thought of the cold winds battering down the walls of the ancient shrined before he'd attempt to distract himself. Turning once more to his left he'd look down, as if talking to someone shorter than him, before speaking. "So Agni this is the first time you've seen snow huh?" he'd ask with a smile, though he'd receive no answer he'd nod all the same and continue walking. Suddenly stopping as he felt water touch the tips of his toes, "hm?" he'd murmur, glancing up as if to spot a leak on the roof. But there was none to be found, no leak, the ancient structure held firm against the ice and cold, and so puzzled Del would reach the tips of his fingers to his face, feeling cold wet streaks just beneath his eyes.

Tears? he'd wonder, but why would their be tears? surely everything was alright so long as he had his brother. Del turned, glancing back to the spot he could've sworn he saw Agni walking beside him, laughing and smiling like little brothers were supposed to. Though as he turned he was greeted to only a flickering image, just as the meager flames flickered so too did his Agni, cracking, burning, until ultimately fading from sight. His eyes would quake a moment, and he'd tear them from the sight, closing them hard as if to make a monster disappear. "no...no...no...no Agni don't play games, we haven't the time" he'd say in unsteady breaths, his voice shaken as he said the words. The tears would keep falling though he couldn't place why, and though there he'd stand all the same, motionless like a statue, waiting for the whole world to just end when.

He'd hear a noise, as his eyes were closed and his mind was stirring he'd wait, hoping it was his own imagination before another and another broke the silence. Sure Agni was playing games with him, he'd suddenly clench his fists, "Agni I said knock it off!" he'd say sternly, almost angrily, his eyes flashing open with new found intensity as the torches on the wall began to stretch ever higher, almost lapping at the ceiling with their crackling, ever burning tongues before dying back down.

"I...I'm sorry I yelled, I jus...I just" he'd stop for a moment trying to find the words though none came to him, what came instead was the loud murmur of his stomach. "Hungry...I guess" he'd mutter, knowing full well that he hadn't eaten in a little over a day since stumbling upon the shrine. The storm had him pretty much stuck here, and there was no way he could hunt in this weather. With a pained expression he'd force himself forward, unknowingly toward one of the noises. As he walked the torches would light once again, following him and lighting his path whether he felt so inclined as to see where he was going or not. It was along this path that, he'd hear noises, though he'd ultimately knock them up to his stomach's attempts at making conversation.

As he walked, he'd be sure not to look behind him, too afraid to see Agni disappear again or perhaps even worse, not see him at all. Though as he walked he'd still occasionally attempt small talk, to try to comfort the younger brother that wasn't there, after all an old place like this was a scary place for a kid and he wouldn't allow his younger brother to be afraid while he was around. Soon he'd find a few old bird nests, and collect them for kindling, before he'd attempt to head back to the spot he'd picked out, the spot behind the long faded statue of someone little to no one remembered. He liked that statute, or what little remained of it, the remains of a beard chiseled in stone reminded him of his Uncle Kadaj, a burly man whom always had a story to tell.

Though as he we was distracted reminiscing about the story of the Fisherman's Wife, smiling faintly, and remembering how Mulani constantly butchered it in taverns, he'd become lost. Following a path that led him to the entrance rather than the deeper corridors, glancing around he'd notice shadows of people, though he'd quickly dismiss them as nothing more than daydreams and statues dancing in the light of the burning torches that lined the walls. Convinced he might as well check his rabbit trap in the snow whilst so close to the mouth of this glorified cave, he'd press on. Still distracted by his stomach and the fond memories of better times, as he'd wander into the path of a girl and a wolf, whilst sounds of others echoed behind him. Del would sigh looking down at his stomach, with an exasperated sigh, now he was going crazy, day dreams, mirages, hallucinations. He'd been dehydrated and hungry before, but usually it took at least two days for these to start.

He'd wander up to the girl and the wolf, sure that he had must've drank water sullied with poison roots, or purple moss. Afterall why would people come here!? It didn't make any sense this was as far away as he could get from people, so why would they come to the faraway places where people hide? No this couldn't be real, maybe it was even Agni in disguise, playing games again. He'd sigh, ignoring the bow, and the more than likely hostile wild animal. He'd pass right between the two, not speaking a word, and hoping his trap would yield some food. Though as he poked his head from the entrance, he'd be shocked to find what appeared to be a white haired girl walking toward the entrance. "Agni stoppit" he'd mutter under his breath in a no doubt frustrated attempt to get these people's visages to disappear. He'd search the raging storm in an attempt to spot his rabbit trap, though the blanket of sheer white wouldn't let up even an inch for him to spot it. Hungry and defeated, Del would reluctantly march back into the temple, once again passing between the wolf and the girl, though this time his arm would brush against the fur of the wolf, and his foot would trip slightly on the woman's boot.

He'd catch himself, his eyes going wide as he came to the realization that these were not in fact figments of his imagination. He froze in place, reluctantly turning back to view the girl, as he heard more noises behind him. His shiver, now seemed to be routed to his fear of being found rather than the cold that plagued his bones. There he'd stand for a moment, so bewildered and lost. "....You can't be here" he'd mutter, almost as if to assure himself rather than inform the girl. "I climbed a mountain, I...the village said no one comes up here" he'd say, as if trying to reassure himself that this was simply a bad dream. He had decided to give it up, stop hurting people, stop fighting, everytime he dealt with people there was violence, he didn't want it anymore. So he hid, he ran, and now people were finding him. Del cringed at the sound of the footsteps behind him getting closer, and in his nervous anticipation the torches in the room would all dim a bit. Cringing, in dread as he was thrust back into the world of people...

Aisha focused her energy into her hand causing it to glow faintly and emitted just enough light to see better in the low light. She kept her senses open for the sounds of anyone else who may already be in the temple. She took in the intricate details which adorned the walls mesmerized by the carvings. She could make out some symbols and pictures but didn't understand what they translated too. A sudden shift in the energy around her alerted her to the presence of others. Others like her, perhaps? She carefully wandered deeper into the temple noticing some of the touches on the wall already lit by someone. "So... someone is here..." she muttered to her self, she wandered into a larger room which branched off into several more passage ways, the same carvings were etched into the walls. She could make out a large pool of ice in the center of the room that at one time might have worked to be a fountain. The sound of crackling drew her attention and she spotted a small flame flickering in the far corner of the room.

Just as she was about to inspect the room further a voice took her by surprise causing her to jump slightly and whirled around shifting into a defensive stance on reflex. Aisha stared at the other person a moment immediately noticing his natural aura first before any physical features, it was very different. It shined almost gold in color and was much brighter than any she's seen before. She saw past the golden glow to the physical being noting there was no tension or hostility in guys posture, so she relaxed slightly. She could feel several other auras around but couldn't quite see them. Most felt as if they were back the way she had came making her curious. "Your eyes play no tricks. I... don't know much about this place other than it's been abandoned for quite a while." She replied to the brunets inquire. "It possibly belonged to those who prayed to the spirits of earth and plants from what I can tell..." She muttered glancing around the room once more.

Auria let out a quite breath as the nightingale finally stopped its chittering and settled down. Unfortunately, it seemed to only last a few seconds before the bird was at it again. Except this time it flapped its wings and took off into the air. Auria instinctively flew after it, cupping a gentle hand under the bird and gesturing for it to calm down. She immediately realized her mistake as she stood hovering several feet above the ground in the middle of the entrance hall. Out of the corner of her eye she spotted two other figures near the entrance. She quickly descended back to the ground and gave a single, hesitant wave of her hand. Auria looked at all the lit torches and guessed that one of them must control the fire elemental. She glanced uncertainly at the girls spirit wolf before placing her nightingale safely back onto the crook of her shoulder, slightly blocking it out of view. She slowly walked towards them but stopped just half way when she noticed how tense the boy seemed to be. She was intrigued by the way the tattoos littering his body seemed to glow but quickly tore her gaze away, not wanting to appear rude. "Ah, hello...there" Auria mummered, almost soft enough to be a whisper but loud enough for them to hear.

"I must say, you shine brighter than this temple. Quite literally too." He said in a charming voice. Much as he was complimenting her, since she really was undeniably beautiful, with the snowy white hair and the smooth looking skin, her hand was quite literally glowing.

What power did she have? Light? Or energy even? He wondered but didn't think too much of it. Although...

"Less about this temple, its so boring in comparison. I take it you also control an element, which already makes you special. We are quite the rarity after all. May I ask what it is that you use?"

He asked in a sincerely intrigued tone, in hope it sounded complimentary about her ability. He gave his natural charming smile to boot. People loved his smile and he was never afraid to use it.

Aisha smiled slightly when he mentioned powers, more specifically that he had said 'also'. She had honestly forgotten her hand was still ago and let the light fade since there were torches alight with in the temple already. Aisha stood up straighter, relaxing her stance once more "Yes I can control an element, though it's not a normal one I think, I can control energy." She grinned before tilting her head curiously. And asking "What element are you able to control?"She asked curiously. From his aura she could guess what it was but figured asking was much better than guessing and he seemed nice already.

Xander absolutely hated puddle jumping when things were frozen over. It made life so much harder, and he had to melt himself every time he arrived somewhere, which wasted some time. It was one of the few things that actually bugged him. Otherwise he really didn't care. Luckily for him, based on what his mentor said, the temple would only require one jump. He had described the fountain to Xander in great detail, calling it the Shrine Fountain to make it easier for Xander to get to.

Now Xander stood on the frozen surface of the Cellain river, about 10 miles from his home, focussing on that fountain. He felt his body begin to go rigid, like it always did when he had to travel through ice. He just relaxed his mind while focussing on nothing but the fountain, his body becoming nothing but ice, and then it collapsed into the surface of the river, becoming one with that ice. This was Xander's favorite part, floating in semi-consciousness, moving almost as if by magic through the body of water, deep underground, where all bodies of were interconnected. He was just along for the ride. Suddenly he felt himself being pulled into a new body of ice, and knew he had reached his destination.

As his body began to form like and ice sculpture on the surface of the fountain, his consciousness returning. All around he sees others, likely the other chosen ones, all with powers like his own. His body, now fully structured, begins to melt, until he stand there, back to relative normalcy, despite being exhausted. For some reason he was always dry, despite being turned into water and what not. He stepped off the frozen surface of the fountain and offered a relaxed smile.

"Hi, my name is Xander."

Jadus smirked when she asked. He whipped out his arms and two metal balls on a chain fell into his hand as he grabbed them as he threw them out.

"I have something that works on multiple levels. These days they try to artificially create it and your body sends them flying everywhere. It's something a little...-"

He sent a positive charge on his left hand and a negative on his left. He didn't so much create electricity from his own energy, than form a circuit using it. As such little energy was lost, most of it being the light that came from it anyway.

Between the two metal balls he held, a current shot between the two and arced across the air.

vandegraaff.jpg

"-..Shocking." He grinned and winked after his statement, moving the balls around at various lengths, the electricity crackling.

"Of course,", he spoke as he moved them around, "I can also do things like shoot lightning, but its rather crude and energy consuming."

He kept them going, as it helped alleviate boredom many times. It was also a rather fancy way of showing his ability, even if rarely used like so for practical purposes.

He heard a voice speak to the side of the name of Xander. In a form of flourish, he turned with the lightning still dancing. Being approached on was nothing new for him, though was more often by angry males who wanted their girl back than a friendly guy.

"Hello there, also wishing to join the observance of this demonstration? Be careful though, touching it is a big no-no. You may shock yourself, in more ways than one."

Xander looked at the electricity between the two balls and his eyes widened. Wonderful. Someone with lighting powers, and clearly someone with no sense of how dangerous his powers were. Xander took a few steps backwards, away from the crazed lightning freak.

"Please don't do that around me. Lightning and water, not a good mix." Xander definitely was going to have a hard time working with this one. He took another step backwards for good measure, putting his hands out in front of him.

Locations: (Note: Each square is 5 feet)

Aisha, Jadus and Xander are in Room B, between the corridor leading into room A and the fountain.

Galatea, Auria and Dell are in Room A near the entrance of the temple or somewhere in the middle of the room.

Norman is outside somewhere

Asia watched fascinated by the brunets display of his abilities. She's seen similar phenomenons but only with the use of machines. "So you control lightning, fascinating." She though aloud not daring to draw any close. She knew electricity was another type of energy but felt and flowed extremely different from the kind she was used to dealing with.

The sounds of Ice shifted her attention behind her, she tensed looked over her shoulder in time to see another being with a bright blue aura who had appeared from out of thin air, or rather ice and water. She noticed how scared he seemed of the lightning wielder "Um... might be wise to stop doing that now." She glanced back to the brunet before looking back to new comer, "Uh Hello. It's nice to meet you, Xander. I'm Aisha."

Jadus sighed and made the metal of a neutral polarity, which stopped the current going.

"Well dear, electricity. Lightning is one form, but there is much more to it than that on smaller but much more capable scales."

He withdrew the metal back into his sleeve not to be seen visibly. Doing a courtesy, he spoke "Jadus Keren, at a womans service. Men can take a waiting ticket. Be warned though, the queue at the moment is rather large."

As he withdrew back up, he was stumped on what to say next. He could be busy getting the attention of this rather fetching Aisha, however there was currently someone who looked like a frightened rabbit with them. Great.

"Aisha, should we continue on our search of this place? I was told there was-...something special about this place so came to visit." He caught himself before saying something very bad.

Tanaka's ears perked as the duo quietly crept forward. Galatea noticed and silently drew an arrow from her quiver and set it to the string. With her grip on the longbow in her left hand, she held arrow in place while she kept the torch in her other hand, ready to toss or drop in a moment's notice.

They worked their way down the main corridor and discovered a dim light radiating from a larger room ahead. With a silent nod, Tanaka stopped and attended her as she ground out the torch to save for later use. Once done, she continued along the edge of the hallway. "Tanaka, kakato," she whispered and the wolf matched her pace at her heel.

Galatea could hear the voices that Tanaka's superior hearing had detected earlier. There were multiple ones, both male and female, and their discussion echoed down the hallway in a jumbled, unintelligible mess. By the tenor of their voices, Galatea determined that they were making no effort to conceal themselves, nor were they involved in any sort of odd, ritualistic chant.

Still, it was better to remain cautious, she thought.

The duo finally arrived at a point at the edge of the light that was splashing around a large room via multiple torches. Several others stood near a large pool that appeared frosted over with ice. They were all dressed in a myriad of attire which let Galatea know that they weren't some functionaries of any military establishment.

Galatea lightly crouched and set her extinguished torch on the floor. With both hands now available to her, she held the arrow to the longbow's string, but kept the deadly missile aimed low and away in a nonthreatening manner. Tanaka stood firmly at her side, his nostrils flared as he scented the air. The figures ahead of them didn't appear to pose an immediate threat, so Tanaka's posture was somewhat relaxed. Galatea took that as a positive sign, having learned to read her companion over the many years they had traveled together.

Continuing her mantra of remaining cautious, Galatea kept her grip on her longbow the same, as she and Tanaka tentatively moved forward to greet the other temple congregants.

Aisha glanced back to Jadus curiously as to what he might have heard about the temple, however she ended up focusing past the brunet on several other faint auras she saw in the distance. They were all equally bright, probably the only reason she was even able to see them, though she couldn't make out much past their existence. "It seem's there are other like us here as well." She pointed out pointing past Judas. "Maybe we should meet them? or at least see if they're hostile or not." She suggested not really sure why they were gathering there. It was something she wondered about the whole trip to the temple. If they were the only ones left able to connect to the elements and supposed to be hidden than why was everyone gathering in one location? A sign that things were changing once more? Questions with no answers should they simply stay in one room.

Del shuttered, his eyes locking on the white haired girl whom had just stumbled in from the icy cold that swirled and crashed indiscriminately beyond the temple's walls. There his eyes would sit, shaking, trembling, as he took in the sight of another human being. Now for most this would probably be a blessing, hell, just running into another person out here in these obscure ruins, on this obscure mountain was a miracle in and of itself. But this wasn't just any person, this was a beautiful girl, and for that matter one with freakin super powers! Yes, to most people, the word 'Jackpot' would probably come to mind, along with some perverse thoughts as to what to do pass the time in a dirty old ruin. But alas, Del wasn't most people, to be honest he probably wasn't even some people. No unfortunately, Del was about as far from 'people', as a person could get. And it would show on his face as his eyes frantically darted about, taking in every inch of the girl, trying to find a seam as if she was a costume, or a ghostly trail as if she were a spirit from beyond.

Of course as inhuman as Del was, as much as he shied away from other people, drifted through towns without words, drank from rivers, or ate what he found rather indiscriminately, that wasn't to say he was a beast. Though at this moment it could be said he looked like a startled lamb, no doubt mere seconds away from the slaughter. His eyes locked onto the girl's white hair, staring intently, his body shivering from nothing more than the cold now, as his nervous energy fell away only to be replaced with a heart sinking empty feeling he wasn't sure he knew how to respond to. "Agni look it's Mom" he'd mutter almost inaudibly under his breath, turning to his side just to realize that Agni wasn't there. But why wasn't he there!? No, No, No that wasn't right! He had to be there! He was after all still alive, he was, he had to be! His eyes became blurry for a moment, as small drops of salt and water welled up in them before he'd force them back.

No, that wasn't it at all he reasoned, grasping at false logic for the sake of his sanity. No he'd just scared Agni was all, scared him away when he yelled earlier and caused the torches to grow too high. Duh, Mulani would scold him for letting himself lose control like that, of course he'd scare poor little Agni, he was just a kid after all. He'd nod, closing his eyes and taking a long calm breath, before opening them once again. Though the young girl was still there, b-but she had white hair, his mother was the only Rona he knew with white hair. And now a girl with white hair stumbled here, she found him where he couldn't be found. It had to be her right? right!?

Del stared a bit longer, leaning forward a bit to better view the girl, if he wasn't mistaken his mother had tan skin, and eyes that shone like rubies. But this girl, her eyes were different, and her hair was long, not short. Del was certain a second ago that this was his mother, but now, he wasn't so sure. And then came her voice, meek and quiet, he wasn't sure he'd ever heard his mother quiet once. Always laughing, or singing, or scolding. She was a woman of, well a woman of fire really, always passionate never dulled or dimmed by anything she'd burn you, warm your heart, and keep you safe. He'd take a step forward hoping to get a better look in the dark lighting, but as he took those few steps he'd notice a small faint red glow beneath the blanket he wore over his shoulders, the only thing truly between his bare chest and the cold mountains wicked embrace.

He'd stop in his tracks, realizing that his body was a bit warmer than before, and that his shivering had stopped. The black tattoos that littered his entire chest, back, and shoulders were now outlined and interspersed with the faint unsteady glowing of oxygenated blood, blood that , could soon perhaps quite literally boil. He'd freeze, pulling his hands out from beneath his makeshift cloak of tattered bedsheets and stare intently at there bandaged form. They felt hotter than usual, no doubt awakened by his desperate need for warmth, or else the emotional rollercoaster ride he was in the midst of taking. He'd stare back at the girl whom had just greeted him, why did she come here!? Why couldn't she just leave him alone!? Why couldn't anyone!? Now the heat was rising, the fires in his blood were quickly igniting, and he wasn't sure he could stop them, or much less if he wanted to.

Burning it all down and running away again, he didn't like it but did he have much of a choice? He'd had enough, enough of running, enough trying to fight the heat, the cold was so cruel, and he hated it, he hated the shivers, why did he have to endure them for the sake of someone!? It wasn't fair!! The more he thought about it the brighter the dim muddy red would grow, now casting odd shadows on his skin, for a moment it'd seem as if the tattoos were moving, slithering along his form like snakes as he stood with clenched fists, eyes forced shut, and gritting teeth. And then suddenly he'd open his eyes, staring at the cold and startled girl before him, the sound of his mother's laughter reverberating in his head. And that'd be it, the end of the glow, and the end of the anger swelling in him as he let his fists go limp, so shocked that he'd remembered the sound of her voice. He was at a loss, so far away from his comfort zone, but anger seemed so far away now.

And so, in the moment of his greatest confusion, perhaps his greatest weakness he'd do the unthinkable, "Hello..." he'd say in reply now unable to stop himself from talking to the stranger he'd dreaded, heck he still did. But then, after a pause he'd manage to surprise himself again, "umm uh, would you like to come in?" he'd say, having found the words where he thought there were none to speak of. It seems that while Del no doubt feared the pain that could come from hurting this stranger, he'd instead choose to believe that perhaps some good could come of it too.

Galatea approached the others as she walked in confidence. Tanaka's posture remained ... curious ... as he continued to take in the surrounding air through his nose, so Galatea kept her arrow pointed low to the ground in a non-threatening manner.

Her hood was already tossed back and her light brown hair spilled across her shoulders as it was unrestrained from the garment. Grey eyes danced from one stranger to the next as she quickly analyzed those before her. She stopped several yards short of engaging them in order to keep a comfortable distance should the need arise where she needed to draw and shoot.

Tanaka looked up at her as she stopped. He let out a small, soft whine as his eyes pleaded with her. These were new people, new smells and, he hoped, new hands to rub and scratch his thick fur. Galatea's lip curled slightly in amusement at his display, but she kept her attention on the others.

Well and away from the entrance, the air inside the shrine was perceptibly warmer although it was still and cold. Galatea suppressed a shudder; she really detested the winter weather as it blanketed her element of plants and nature which forced things dormant until the warmer seasons. Here, however, it seemed that winter reigned supreme with ice crusting over so much of the shrine's walls, floors and everywhere. Even the pool of the fountain was suspended in time by the merciless, oppressive hand of winter.

It was a silent, frigid tomb, and Galatea hid her unease at standing within it.

"It appears that this shrine isn't as abandoned as we were led to believe," she said as her voice reverberated a bit more than she had expected. "What are all of you doing here?"

Auria watched, shocked and concerned as a flurry of conflicting emotions seemed to flash like lightening across the strangers face. She cautiously formed a little concentration of air in her right hand, sensing his body tense from a mix of anger and frustration. It was then at that moment that he seemed to suddenly calm down. Auria was slowly becoming wary of his ever changing emotions and a bit worried about his overall mental health. After several minutes of heavy silence he finally spoke up, asking if she would enter. She instantly let the ball of air dissipate as she saw the slight confusion, surprise, and small but hopeful glance he threw her way. Auria slowly nodded her head and floated through the temple entrance, crossing the distance between them. "...thank you...for inviting me in". She let a small smile grace her lips as she timidly hovered in front of him.

Del sighed, "Y-Y-Yeah it's no problem at all" he'd say through chattering teeth as he pulled the single blanket closer around his arms and bare chest. Since he was trying to calm himself, fire was out of the question, and heat was sort of pushing it. So now much to his dismay he'd have to settle for cold, very cold to be exact though no one would see him complain. In Rona culture there was a saying, 'a complaint is a cancer', not that Del really knew what that meant. He had asked his father once, wondering if it was something about crabs or something, and his father had replied by changing the subject rather suddenly.

Apparently in his father's day the saying was much different, 'a complaint is a cut' they'd used to say and apparently go through with. For every complaint a Ronani cried, they'd have to give themselves a cut. His father laughed saying there mother had quite a few when they first met, to which she'd narrow her eyes back at him and throw something or another at him as he laughed and laughed. Those were simpler days, before Del wound up on his own. He'd smile faintly for a moment, though just as soon as it appeared it was gone as he shook the thoughts from his mind and nervously glanced back at the girl he was walking beside. Every so often he'd stare too long, and he'd hope she wouldn't catch him though he was sure she did a few times.

"M-My name's Del" he'd offer rather meagerly, not really calling too much attention to it, in fact asking a question right after it as if to change the subject. "Umm...hey, I don't mean to pry, but what are you doing up here? You're not looking for me are you?" the first part was a lie, he fully intended to pry, after all he needed to know this girl's intentions ASAP, and the second part, well that was more his lack of patience getting to the better of him. After all if he had any tact he'd probably wait to ask that question, or try to gather it from her speech. But alas Del was once more plagued by his startling lack of people skills, and this cold wasn't helping...

Auria could see out of the corner of her eye the stares that the stranger kept giving her. She could feel the warmth spread across her cheeks as she became increasingly self conscious. At least she managed to keep a somewhat straight face. Auria had barely heard him introduce himself before he quickly changed the subject.

"I came here because of the others" She responded, her voice quite but steady "Others...others like me"

Auria turned and gave Del a hesitant look before finally making a decision.

"Are...do you maybe..." She began, but couldn't seem to get the words out.

Del nodded and tried his best to smile reassuringly as he listened to the girl's words, though he didn't truly get the gist of what she was saying. Suddenly he'd stop walking, trying to make sense of her oddly enigmatic, or perhaps evasive attempts at conversation. Of course he wasn't exactly great at it either, talking that is, but at this moment he'd seem to have his mind made up that this girl had to have been better at it than he was.

Then again maybe not, as it wasn't long before Del was second guessing himself, so caught up with his thoughts as to whether or not to trust this girl that in the process he'd sort of forget what she was saying. But soon enough the words were back, echoing in some part of his brain that seemed to be paying attention despite his nervous or perhaps understandable paranoia. "Others?" he'd ask reflexively, trying to make sense of what this girl was trying to say. "Do I? Do I what?" he'd ask, a little confused by her question, his mind trying to piece together what she meant from the scant clues she'd offered. And then suddenly, his mind rushed out a conclusion, one preposterous perhaps even foolish, but all the same wonderous.

Was she? Did she have his curse too? Did she burn others too? he'd think frantically, his mind racing, his eyes growing wide at the possible realization, a realization he was all too willing to throw himself into. After all if she burned people too then maybe she knew what it was like, and if she knew what it was like, then he didn't have to be alone anymore. Del would stop, grabbing the girls hands up in his own, "wait, no there's no way! Y-You mean, y-you burn things too?" he'd ask with an sort of hopeful stare, and an uneasy smile, his mind had forced him into this mess as usual, forcing his hopes on an assumption, and a rather bad one at that...

Auria's eyes widened in shock as he stopped walking and abruptly grasped her hands. It only took her a split second before she absorbed his words. She returned his touch with a soft squeeze of her fingers.

"Burn? You can control fire?" Auria breathed, eyes sparkling with wonder and curiosity. This was it! She had finally found an elementalist like her.

"I-I can't burn things but I can do this". She gently removed her right hand from his and gave a twirl of her finger. Not a second a later, a soft breeze seemed to travel down the corridor, bringing along little tufts of snow with it. They seemed to slowly swirl around them like sparkling stars before rising and disappearing upwards into the shadow dipped ceiling.

"I also float..." She added, slowly gesturing at her feet hovering a few inches off the ground.

Aisha Looked over as another girl, this one with a bright green aura, then the wolf beside her. She could help but smile at the canine having a soft spot for animals. She glanced back to the girl as she questioned why they were all there and noticed she had a bow in her hands. "At the moment seeking shelter from the storm out side. Though I anticipate some greater reason for gathering, seeing as those who are here aren't well... normal." She smiled slightly "Do you control an element as well?" She asked figuring it best to be upfront about her questions instead of beating around the bush.
