Quarantine 2040

"Exactly. Now, we're stuck up here with nothing but guns." Suddenly an idea. Shoot the supports on the ledge and slide to the next on below them. "Give me one."

Spikes was, frankly, shocked at their responses. But before she could get two words out, David continued with his speech. He mentioned a little brother, and something that really struck home with her.

Skychild said:
"...so i might as well distract myself from my depression by trying to help. It makes me feel better. It's risky, but it keeps me going. If i don't have a reason to stay alive, i might as well be dead. I don't know about you."
He stalked out, and left Julian and Spikes alone in the closet. Well, Laura was there too, but Laura was dead.

Was she really so heartless now? Was that who she was? Or wanted to be?

Spikes walked to the large windows, their glass long gone or in shards on the ground. Of course she was thinking of ways to get out, but she was also lost in thought. "It's today, isn't it." She whispered to herself. Today was the aniversary of that horrible, horrible day. A day that she never wanted to remember.

She barely heard Julian's first comment, but caught his last few words.

Elijahpijah123 said:
"Give me one."
She turned around. "What are you talking about?"

Her harshness was back, but she didn't care. She didn't like being reminded of her past.

William heard people debating about what to do with him. So he opened his eyes and stood up, "Why the fuck are you guys still here? Let's run like hell!"

Spikes jumped in front of him, unsure of just how stupid this kid was. "Are you planning to get us all killed? Or do you just have bad ideas? Because those aren't just flimsy pipes, kid. Look at them. Their concrete and steel columns, probably thicker than three of you put together! And your plan is to shoot it down? Those bullets are going to ricochet all over and probably end up doing more damage to us than the columns."

It came out a lot more harsh than she intended, but she didn't like this kid. Who was he to call her heartless, when he was the one who just shrugged off his girlfriend's death like it was nothing? That, and today was not a good day for Spikes Monroe.

She glanced at David, and at William, who was apparently up and about. Go figure. "Just so you know, I'm leaving after we get out of this. Clearly I'm not welcome, and I don't really want to be. But," she took a breath to calm herself, but it didn't work too well. She was really trying not to bring back any memories of that day. "I'm grateful. You guys did save my life, several times, and so I'll return the favor. But nothing more."

Elijahpijah123 said:
"You really are an angry person."
Spikes didn't like that. "Today of all days? Yeah. Deal with it."

But, he had a point. There wasn't another way down other than jumping, and that could involve falling to their deaths. Which actually didn't sound so bad, because if she landed on her head, the death would be quick, painless.

Spikes shook the thought from her head. Focus.

"I don't see another option, though. Are there any ropes, anywhere? I could... We could tie them to one of the columns, and if we fall, we'd be caught by the rope instead of falling sixty feet to out deaths. That okay with all of you?"

"Yea In the elevator shaft. Which would fall before we have enough rope. I'll jump first." Julian walked to the edge. "Here I go."

Spikes stared at him. "Don't you want to at least try and get the rope before you attempt a fifteen foot jump?"

She, for one, was not planning on dying today, and though she didn't know where the elevator shaft was, she knew she had seen some rope in the closet when she woke up. It was eerie how she had to walk past Laura's body to get the rope, and even though she didn't personally know the girl, it felt wrong to leave her there, without a proper burial. She was human, after all. Died human, and deserved to be buried human, too.

But she didn't know how she was going to get her remains past the gap. She found the rope, steel cables more like it, and dragged all of it out of the closet. She glanced at Julian, holding the rope. "Help me with this, kid."

Just before Julian jumped, he pulled back. "Fine." When he was there, he pit them together and strapped them to his shirt. "Do the same, ok?"

"Yeah," Spikes told him, taking the coils of steel rope and tying them around a thick concrete column. She wasn't the best at tying knots, but she managed. She glanced over at William and David. "What are you guys planning to do?"

@Skychild @RedZombieWolf

David hesitated. His twisted arm wasn't a problem, but his broken ribs were. The impact would definitely cause more damage to his ribcage. His gaze shifted between Julian, Spikes and William. "Guys, I..." David walked to the ledge and looked down. That was quite a fall...

"..." He didn't say anything anymore. He crouched at the ledge and closed his eyes.

This was going to hurt a lot.

(I'm probably going to kill him off soon.)

Julian walked around and saw dead infected, some with their heads blown. If it wasn't for the bombs they'd all be mauled on by them. "Jump!"

"Wait a damn second, Jul--!" His eyes widened. More infected approached them... David and Spikes were the last 2 persons on this level. They had to jump eventually.

His gaze shifted between his chest and the edge. He then looked at Spikes. He didn't say anything, he just looked into her face for a while.

He might die...

Then, he spoke. "I don't think you are a bad person. You just don't trust others because you don't want to get hurt, don't you?" He sighed, looking down at William and Julian. "I don't blame you for leaving. I'm leaving as well if i'm still able to move after i hit the ground. These guys will get me killed, and i have someone to find before i die. It was nice knowing you." He reached out his hand for a handshake. "Thanks for the help. Sorry if it goes to waste."

David took a deep breath before finally leaping down the pit. His fear grew stronger the closer he got to the ground. "Dear god, help me..."

His feet hit the ground, and he rolled to absorb the shock of the impact.

-CRACK-

The pain rushed through his whole body like an electric shock. He stopped rolling, and layed still on the ground.

You'd think that he let out a scream of pain, but it was so intense that he couldn't breathe. He just twitched a little, holding his chest, digging his nails into the bandages.
"Make it stop... God, please make it stop..." He thought as his vision became blurry and he started coughing up blood. Even if he expected more damage after the jump, nothing could've prepared him for this. It felt like someone pierced his chest with daggers, and twisted the blades to carve huge holes into his flesh.

He managed to get up on his knees, his whole body trembled. The look on his face was pure agony.

Very slowly, he got up on his feet. His head dropped forward, blood dripping out of the corners of his mouth and forming a small puddle on the ground.

Death would feel better than this...

But I swore to myself that I was going to find my little brother before I die!

Why? He's probably dead already.

No! I believe in him! He's a toughie!

What makes you think that?

I know my little brother! He's probably looking for me right now!

HE'S DEAD! JUST DIE ALREADY!

No... I don't want to die...

What did you say?

I want to live...

Oh? I thought he was the reason you wanted to live?

Get out of my head.

Isn't he?

Leave me alone!

Tell me, David!

Shut up!!

Hehe... You're just as selfish as everyone else. Stop playing the hero.

I'm not...

Yes you are!

No...

You're a bad liar... Huh? Are you crying?

Stop talking...

Hahaha! You're such a softy! Stop whining!

...Chris... Chris, come back... I can't live without you...

Oh geez, you're so pathetic...

Leave me alone!!!!

David's vision became darker and darker. He stumbled, losing consciousness as he fell back to the ground. This was more than he could take.

(Soooo whether he lives or dies is up to you guys. His personality is going to change if he survives.)

Spikes watched both David and William jump... Without the rope. David let out a scream of pain, and Spikes, even with all of her battle hardened skills, froze. She had only heard screams like that once, and she didn't think she'd hear them again.

Grabbing the rope she jumped off the ledge, using it to pull herself to the ground. But her knot came undone, and she went tumbling, her ankle spiking with sudden and sharp pain. She glanced at it, and knew she would have to cast it. But it wasn't too bad, not as bad as David.

She pulled herself over to him, before brushing away William and Julian. "You guys keep any infecteds off of us, or find me a stretcher. He's hurt pretty bad."

Why am I helping him? Shouldn't I just leave him to die?

She shook his shoulders, trying to get him to wake up. But he wouldn't, and she quickly used a knife to cut off his bandages. She put her head to his chest, listening for a heart beat. Sighing in relief when she found one. "Are we going to switch roles now? I'm going to save your life when you probably should be dead?"

But she heard something else, too. It was unmistakable.

He was bleeding internally.

Which meant surgery. But she wasn't a surgeon! There was some tech back at the fallout shelter, though, in the med bay, that could do it. But that was over a mile away...

David coughed, blood spilling out of his mouth. She turned back to the guys. "GET ME A STRETCHER!"
