Fantasy [Private] El Stories

Xavier face went red at Arya's comment. "Oh no, not what I meant! Please, continue on with your single status life," he quickly responded. Yet his face went redder at Rain's comment, giving her a surprised look. "...H-hey now, I wouldn't go after someone based on their looks," he stuttered. Xavier was flustered. "Not sure how I am a ladies man here..."

Komodo only rolled his eyes with a light shrug, almost amused.

Arya feigned hurt feelings as she gasped dramatically, holding her hand over her chest. "Well ouch! It almost sounds like you don't want to date me. I don't know if I should feel relieved or hurt," Arya pouted. Star moved to sit by Komodo and watch the others.

"And he even got the oblivious act down. Oh Arya, men can be so cruel sometimes."

She heaves the same dramatic gasp and even went so far as to sigh longingly.

"He'll break so many hearts. I might have some competition."

Phantom heard the exchange between Arya, Rain, and Xavier and he chuckled. "Well this will be a lively group," He commented as he unstrapped his staff and started to fidget with it, careful not to sway the gem on the top of the staff before settling with leaning on to his staff as he stood to watch the others' interactions. The priest then suddenly covered his mouth to stifle a snicker as Xiopetec made a comment to her loyal follower in his mind. "Shhh," He shushed the goddess under his breath after he composed himself.

"G-guys, please. You're both beautiful, knock off the act. I mean, I won't be surprised if I suddenly start crushing...no, ignore that last one!" Xavier desperately wanted some sort of escape from this.

"I would say that you're lying if you don't like someone currently, but I suppose you made a right play to not let your heart take actions," Perkisas commented.

Xavier ignored Perkisas on that one. "How about we change the subject, yeah? Who's the new guy here? Hi, nice to meet you, Mr...." Xavier paused as he waited for the priest to introduce himself to him. With no shame, Xavier fanned himself just to cool off his blush. 'Why are women difficult...'

"Phantom," The priest filled in the blank, and he gave a wink to Xavier.

Let me help you out here, Phantom thought as he made grand gesture with his staff. "I'm a nomadic priest that just joined your party...I guess," He said and he gave a half-shrug, "And I'm here to help you guys out!" He leaned on his staff again. "Just don't mind me talking to myself, though....I do that a lot, sometimes without realizing because I forget that other people can hear me sometimes."

He fidgeted a bit and he scratched at the foreign symbol of a serpent on his face as he awkwardly laughed.

Arya laughed. "Changing the subject?" She teased, but she turned her attention to Phantom anyway, smiling. "I'm Arya, nice to meet you. And that's Star, my dragon." She said, pointing to the white scaled hatchling sitting by Komodo, tail swishing back and forth slowly, occasionally bumping the other dragon.

"Shame, I thought I'd get the description of Xavier's perfect woman from this. Or maybe, the perfect man...I don't judge which way you swing, Xavier."

"R-Rain! You've done enough! Give me back my body!"

"But I was just having-!"

"No!"

She copies the same awkward laugh as Phantom, turning away from the priest.

Phantom smiled at Arya. "Pleasure to meet you," He said and he glanced at Rain before looking over to the dragons. "Now I've never seen a dragon before. Thought they didn't exist until Xiopetec told me all about them and convinced me that they do exist, they're just not always seen because she's a goddess. Of course she knows that dragons exist-" The priest rambled before suddenly shutting himself up.

Xavier felt sudden relief that they dropped the topic for a new one. "Yeah, dragons are rare around these days," Xavier said, somewhat avoiding from staring at the girls. "Oh, my name is Xavier if I haven't told you. Komodo is my dragon, the red one," he introduced himself. Komodo narrowed his eyes at the priest and growled low at the unfamiliar face. "Mind him, he takes awhile to warm up to strangers." Komodo huffed and shift his tail to whack Star's.

Ren took his time with his food, being careful to find a good balance between savoring the food and wolfing it down like an animal.

"I'll meet with you," Ren said to Lara as she exited the restaurant. Soon after, he got the telepathic message. "Remember those 40 million? Meet me at Cobo's bank once you're free and the money is yours." Ren nodded his head. "Understood," he sent back using his reader.

As he ate, he listened in to the conversations that Xavier had with Rain and Arya. He smirked again knowing that he was being teased, but knowing that Xavier was a potential enemy was no laughing matter. Ren had a pistol on his side, and it took a lot of self-control not to pull the trigger right then and there.

"Steele, here you go. You are free to leave if you wish. I won't hold it against you if you do," Rain said to him while he was eating. He nodded at her quickly and then resumed his breakfast.

Ah, a newcomer, Ren silently mused when he saw the nomadic priest walk in. But still, he kept his silence, listening to their conversations as he nourished his body with the food on his plate. The time came and the plate was empty. Ren sat back and took a deep breath, loosening the tension in his muscles. He still kept his hand near the holster though. The tension in his mind was too much for Ren not to have a fallback.

He took a sip of his coffee and went over to Rain's table. He leaned into her ear and whispered, "Rain, I gotta talk with you in private. When you can. This is serious."

Phantom chuckled. "That's understandable," He said, "But reptiles usually warm up to me quickly. Especially snakes. They're sort of my goddess's holy animal? Hold on, let me check."

The priest pulled out a book from his pocket satchel. It was leather bound, dyed purple and decorated in fuscheia writing with some elegant symbols (it also looked like it was clumsily repaired and has seen better days). Phantom hums as he flips through the pages until he nods and closes the book, putting back in his satchel.

"Yep, they're her holy animal," He confirms and he looks to Xavier. "Have you ever taken care of other creatures?" The priest leans close to Xavier, his entire body radiating curiousity.

"Or we could give a sign when one wants to talk, like a small chime to alert the other for example. That'll make things easier, at least we won't scare each other when we're doing stuff that needs focus or to keep things low." He responded to that while sitting on a rock.

"He probably just told you his code name, Steele. I have some info on the guy, since long ago he aided the Demon Realm with some jobs, I briefly joined his unit. Though I won't go specific, he doesn't play on a single side. Whoever pays him handsomely is who he offers his services, that is if you can find him. That's a mercenary for you." He informed while taking a canteen from his sack bag, opening the tap he drank a bit from the liquid inside.

"Of course that's not the only thing I know about. I have info on Perkisas, of forgotten gods and much more in a... private library that I carry. If we meet again, you're free of using it, I've read most of the books anyways, just mind the blue color, Glave really likes that color because of Henir."

Steele finally responded to her, although it was just a nod at first. When he whispered that they need to have a serious talk, she nods once and follows him out the restaurant.

"Be prepared."

"I know, but it's just...I'm not used to eating a lot," he said. "If I eat a lot, I feel sick." He looked slightly embarrassed.

"But maybe it's just me needing to readjust my whole digestive system." He also remembered doing this a lot for the kids back then. When he was with the zealots 300 years ago, he would give most of his portions to the other kids. Although that would end in punishment, he didn't regret it one bit. Even some returned the favour and helped in return. That was until that fatal experiment.

Before Xavier could answer, Komodo immediately got up and snapped at Phantom, growling in a warning. Xavier whistled at the dragon to keep still in which Komodo stopped what he was doing and only glaring up at Phantom.

"Sorry about that, Komodo doesn't like strangers getting too close with me, not until he is familiar with them. I guess my personal body guard," Xavier joked. He took a step back so Komodo doesn't have to feel so tensed. "Anyways...dragons are the only ones I taken care of," Xavier said though he felt like it was a bit of a lie.

Though he knows for the fact that he been with dragons and learned about them, as well raising Komodo himself. Yet something else inside of him makes him feel like it's not all the truth. Maybe Perkisas was fiddling with his mind with false truths.

Lara chuckled.
"I see. Well, I know how mercenaries work for the most part and I have a vague idea of Perkisas' power."
She sighed at the mention of Glave. "Why am I not surprised you know that freak? Well, I guess the info could proof to be useful at one point, so thanks. Now, for the signal. For me, it's fine. I only need to think of a sound, but what about you, will you say out loud"ding ding", or "knock knock" every time you want to talk? How will that guarantee that you won't startle me or that I won't startle you either? As for a visual signal, I could manage to do it with the the marks on that horn, but, that would put me in danger in an out of combat situation, and well, if you don't have it in your sight, it might be meaningless or put you in a difficult position if it's seen by an outsider."

She took a break and looked at Luriel, she had fallen asleep again. The girl sure had a rough schedule, working almost non-stop and maintaining some holograms of herself in various towns to satisfy all her clients. Most of them only were programmed to say a few sentences and do simple transactions, but she was also travelling most of the time with her sister Ariel. Now that she thought about it, it was weird that most Nasod technology was in the hands of a bank, but it sure made things easier for them, considering their rare competition couldn't be as efficient as them.

"Now, I know you don't like my voice in your head and the same can be said for me. I'll contact you at dusk, if you want, when I have something new to say from this day onwards. How does that sound?"

Fume Fume

"If you want a signal from me, then the rattling of chains should be good enough. Besides, do you think I'm a kid or that playful to the point imitating sounds? I'm not like a person that I know." He took another sip from his canteen. "Besides that, I'm fine with the time that you put. Even if it means something minuscule, just don't be like the succubus in the Demon Realm that rabbles on and on, that'll be just to test what patience I have left."

"Is that so? Then eat what you want then, last thing I want is a repeat of our young days. Man were you insistent on me eating more, I did appreciate it, but felt bad as well." Add commented while taking another bite of his meal.

Phantom flinched a bit and he leaned back a little, to give a bit more space. "Sorry Komodo," The priest apologized to the red dragon before he rubbed his temple and grumbling something under his breath. Phantom stared at Xavier for a bit, his gaze moving up and down before looking to Komodo. "I probably should have given you a heads up," Phantom told the dragon in an apologetic tone, "But I get into people's personal spaces a lot." He awkwardly chuckled as he looked to Xavier, "That's one of the reasons why people think I'm a nutcase." The priest's tone turned bitter as he said "nutcase", and he clicked his tongue.

Ren stepped out of the restaurant, coffee mug in hand. He took a seat on the front steps, holding the cup with both hands. As he felt its warmth, he stared at his own reflection in the coffee, noting the sadness in his emerald eyes. The cream in his coffee swirled within the cup, making the surface look like a magic mirror getting ready to give an answer. But what he got wasn't any major prophecy or some piece of arcane knowledge. What he got were the things he spent his whole life running from.

Life... Ren mused. Life's been a struggle since the day I was born... He closed his eyes, remembering the many nights filled with stress. Parents arguing and yelling over money. Loan sharks banging on the doors. Dishes being thrown. Notices of eviction being placed.

Ren's teeth clenched in anger with that last thought. Working all those odd—and often dangerous—jobs just to make sure his family would make it to the next month under a roof. A third of his money was gambled away, another third spent on drinks, and the last third spent on a stupid Louis Vuitton bag so that mother wouldn't feel so poor. So much for that.

He left the house. That night that he took on his first mercenary mission—eliminate Circe, one of the witches working under the Void Princess Speka. Ren had been testing his first prototype extensively, pushing it to its limits to ensure that it did not overheat or break. By then it was ready, and Ren's tenacity in forging his rifle proved to be the difference between life and death.

Breathing heavily, Ren leaned his back against the wall as he tried to stop the bleeding. Circe had wounded him badly, stunning him with a lightning spell and then driving a stake through his abdomen.

"Rrah!" grunted Circe as she tossed a tomahawk his way. The axe spun horizontally and its blade was aimed perfectly at Ren's throat. Feeling adrenaline flare up in his muscles, he raised his rifle and fired a spread shot. The axe flew away and landed with a clang. The shot also hit Circe, but since she was far away it merely stunned her. For a brief moment, she was wide open. Ren braced the stock against his shoulder, lining up the iron-sights towards the perfect headshot.

Bang!

Circe fell with a big red hole right between her eyes. And the gun was smoking and empty. Ren breathed a sigh of relief. The fight had come down to the last bullet. The relief was short lived, however. The village council looked down upon his actions, despite eliminating a great threat to the village. They were rambling about morality or something along the lines of chivalry. Bollocks. In the end, they banished him to a fate that he still lives today. A wanderer without a family and without a home, he was cursed to mere existence with no purpose other than to make money and survive.

And since elves had such long lifespans, Ren would be cursed to this limbo until his miserable death at the hands of men, or of elves, or of demons, or of Nasods, or of nature itself.

"Why, God?" he whispered into the air. His heart wrenched inside his chest, squeezing out a lone tear out the corner of his eye.

The door opened, and out stepped the blue-haired Rain. He turned to her, forgetting about the tear he had sliding down his cheek until it was too late. He abruptly turned his back on her to fix himself up.

"U-Um... Rain..." he stammered, taking time to calm himself down. "I... er... I... don't know if I'll be able to stay with you..."

She expected that answer honestly. both she and her other self. The dancer doesn't miss the sight of water running down his cheek, though. She keeps the frown on her face.

"I understand. I may have brought Xavier back once, but I can't guarantee that I can do it again. The dragon inside him is one I cannot easily trifle with. I will keep my bargain though. The money I gave you is yours to do whatever with. It may not be much, but I trust that you'll spend it well. I hope that I don't find you on the other side of the battlefield. I may hesitate in killing you, but you probably won't give it a second thought."

She lets out a nervous chuckle and then heaves a heavy sigh.

"I just want you to know...that it's hard living with two people in one body. For me, for Xavier, maybe for that priest in the restaurant."

Rain then steps in front of him and clasps his hand. She closes her eyes to concentrate, and when she opens them again, one of her purple eyes have turned blue.

"Can you hear us?" says both of the Rains.

"I am one Rain," her shyer self introduces, her voice soft and quiet.

"I am another Rain," the siren then says, her voice shifting to more confident and alluring.

"Do you hear two voices?" they question together.

The healer ends her experiment, letting go of the elf's hand. She gives one last curtsy and waits for him to speak.

Airi was... Lost. After her socialization with others, she realized she needed to go to the washroom. Badly.

Unfortunately, her sense of direction wasn't good. The last time she tried finding something, she nearly walked off the edge of a cliff.

Scampering around the inn, she tried finding something that resembled to a washroom. Nothing. There was a door leading to a room, but that was it.

Well, here goes nothing...

Airi opened the door and found Steele and Rain... Holding hands? A sudden weight crashed down onto Airi's shoulders. She quickly slammed the door shut before hurrying off.

For some reason, she didn't feel good. At all. Airi wondered if it was some disease or sickness that suddenly spread to her.
As she kept walking, the image of Rain and Steele kept flashing through her head. It made her want to cry, to scream, to just... Despair.

Airi walked up to the room she and Steele shared and slammed the door. She quickly used the washroom before flopping onto her bed.

"Well, I guess Komodo will keep on check about you invading personal space...mostly mines. Nothing to worry though, he won't bite unless I tell him so," Xavier said as he bends down to pet the dragon, an attempt to make him relax. Komodo did enjoy the scratching under his chin but didn't dare to take his eyes off of Phantom just yet.

Phantom nodded and he watched as Airi moved quickly to her room. "Is she ok?" He asked.

The priest's eyebrow twitched in annoyance, Xiopetec voiced a neutral opinion. She's always indifferent unless it's Phantom involved.

"Of course you wouldn't care, but there's a thing called empathy that you had apparently forgot about," The priest snapped and he stared at Xavier. "I wasn't talking to you! I-I mean, I'm sure you care! You seem like the kind of guy that knows empathy!" Phantom tried to clarify, raising his hands in a gesture of surrender.
