Fantasy Possible fantasy genres?

So I'm itching for a good fantasy RP, but I'm a little tired of the hackneyed medieval European setting. So, I came up with a plot and some interesting and underused settings. The plot would be more or less the same for all of the following possibilities; just the setting and mythology would vary. Let me know if any of the following interest you guys.

Plot Line: Each player would be a member of a small tribe that lives on the outskirts of a great metropolis and hides from the Emperor. A strange phenomenon will have assailed this world. A god will have been made mortal as a sort of divine punishment for both the god and the world; a god who while mortal, is still remarkably powerful and has amassed an army of worshipers who have begun a 'war of sacrifice' in order to complete a ritual that would restore the god's immortality. The cult that worships this fallen god now raids the surrounding tribes and kidnaps people from the empire in order to conduct this strange and macabre ceremony. Our party would have some personal reason to despise this fallen god and his followers, and would embark on a quest to discover how to defeat him/her. I still have some details to work out, but I put a lot of effort into RPs, and before I commit to doing one, I want to be sure people are interested. The possible settings for this plot to take place in are listed below:

  1. Aztec/Mayan/Inca setting
  2. Japanese setting
  3. Norse/Viking setting
  4. African/Zulu setting

I would be up for this idea. I gotta admit though, I never thought I would see the day where Japanese settings would be considered underused.

Lol I suppose that's true. But it would be really old Japan, and very tribal feeling; drawing heavily upon animism and shinto mythology. I wanted a tribal feeling for all of these genres. Civilization is still somewhat premature in this universe, and the existence of aboriginal tribes is still fairly widespread. I like the idea of an ancient god falling from divinity, and a group of tribal warriors working to destroy it, and I think that plot line could work in a variety of settings. I'm glad to have you on board though; I think we've rped together before. Diablo RP yes?

intrigued. of the ones you listed i like aztec/jungle best. The last few months I have also developed a strong interest in pre-islam arabic stories. Jinn-worship and the like. But I'll follow this and see what comes out if it.

arab or aztec, I already have characters i can adapt for those. And a minimum of knowledge on the cultures.

Also small disclaimer: I should probably mention that this will be a mature RP. There won't be anything overly explicit, but it will be violent, with subtle sexual themes. It's a barbaric setting; I want the setting to feel real and true to the temperament of its age. So fair warning up ahead of time.

I would love to see an Aztec style setting for this. It'd be really interesting tactics with all the natural cover, and it'd help explain the mass sacrifice part.

Yeah, it was the Diablo RP way back when. Shame it died so suddenly. Anyway, I'd be down for either the Aztec or Japanese, but if you do something else I won't complain.

@SdrawcabDaer I think it would be distinct from a traditional medieval setting because it would again be a very primitive world. There would exist a 'viking' like civilization beginning to emerge, but many people would still live in tribes in the mountains and forests. Think of the wildlings from Game of Thrones, only more primitive still. I think a very old northern European setting would still be cool, and different enough from the usual medieval setting. What I'm tired of is palladins, mages, dragons, castles and the like. I like that stuff, but I need a break. A really old, primitive northern setting would definitely provide that break.

Yes, and you'd be able to go about that in several ways. In character creation you'll be able to choose 2 weapons, a fighting style (Heavy melee, Fast Melee, or Ranged) and a unique origin (Hunter, Sentinel or Skin Walker). The Sentinel will best fit the 'warrior' archetype, and will have skills that focus on his/her strength and skill in physical combat. The Hunter would be the 'assassin' archetype, and will use skills that focus on tracking and stalking prey or enemies. The Skin Walker will best fit the 'magic user' or shaman archetype, and will use skills that focus on his/her ability to possess the minds of animals and certain mystical objects.

Okay so I'm narrowing this down to Aztec or Norse. I have some pretty cool plots bubbling for both. Speak now or forever hold your peace lol. I'm going to start making the Rp in a couple of hours.
