Leonard Walker, Researcher, Saffron City, Kanto, lost in the middle of the event with a Fuecoco on his head.

As Leonard was trying to get help, Guardian noticed an Eldery man approach and point out a bench for him to sit on.

"Coco! Fuecoco!"

Leonard saw an Eldery man walking over to a bench, then sitting down and Patting the bench. Leonard then approached the elderly man, joining him as he asked about what was troubling Leonard.

"I got into Kanto about a week ago, from Vermillion City, and was looking for the Information center for the Event here in Saffron City."

Leonard was a bit on the nervous side, as he was in a place that he didn't know. However, Guardian hopped off his head and sat next to him, looking around the area with curious Eyes.

"Ah, I see. A young man out to see the world and now you're all mixed up in this craziness are you." The older gentleman chuckled a bit. "I remember when I first started my grand adventure too." The older man gazed out at the people, eyes scanning them as if he were looking into old memories. A light smile tugging at his lips. "I doubt you want to listen to an old man's ramblings, like back in my day or what not."

The man's face scrunched slightly in thought, "A information center? I can't say I've seen one of those but I have seen the flow of people change over the time." He gestures with his cane down the street to his left. "Go that way, a young girl went that way with a Spearow a few minutes ago. My guess she is headed off to the Pokémon center. That place is the closest thing to a Information desk when it comes to an event like this. There is a map of this city just outside it. There should be a clue as to where you're headed near that map." His cane returned to the ground and he looked back at the lad before him." A bit of advice before you go off on your way. A bit of wisdom from a old retired trainer, be observant and just with your eyes. Your partner Pokémon may have insight as well as you connect with them eventually you will have an emotional bond and communication. Be sure to listen carefully for it. Now off you go young man."

With the Capture Challenge now over and done, registration for the Battle Challenge had started. Only the first 100 to apply would be granted admission. All others after 100 would be turned away as registration closed. Speaking of registration, it would begin promptly at 9:30am, which was only a few minutes away. And the event itself would begin at 10am.

Given their inexperience Lorraine had no delusions of ever winning the Battle Challenge. She and Blaze had only been able to just start getting a handle on the basics. Much less acquiring the sorts of instincts and quick reflexive thinking it would take to win battles in a competitive atmosphere.

With Blaze's Poke Ball tucked at her hip she instead made her way towards the rec area where she took up a seat on an empty bench not far from a beautiful Lapras Fountain and leaned back to take in the morning air.

All around her observers to the events had gathered by the thousands in and amongst the nearby buildings of the city and throughout the outlying sector of the rec area. She could hardly believe it had attracted so much attention. According to rumors it wasn't incredibly well advertised. And yet the crowd was similar to that she'd expect to see out of the Pokemon Olympics... Not that she'd ever been. So, perhaps that was an overestimation, or an unfair comparison? Eh, it didn't matter.

For now, she was content to people watch and enjoy the morning while unwinding after the Capture Challenge, during which time she also spent reflecting on how her capture attempts had gone and how she could try to improve herself for when she would actually be able to keep her captures.

Tomohiro
Signing up for the Battle Tournie

Hand clasping at a half drunken bottle of Oranberry Pokezade, Rio with his collected rucksack strung over one shoulder would begin to make his way towards the registration booth for the upcoming battle tournament; his other hand clasping a roughly drawn map courtesy of one of the local convenient store staff members. Had it not been for her advice to register as soon as possible, he'd have probably waited several minutes longer before finally making his way to the registration area. God forbid he had made it after the 100 person limit had been met.

Taking another swig of his energy drink, the cold rejuvenating beverage would prove to be a welcoming reprieve from the heat of the day; beads of swear beginning to appear across his brow as he walked through Saffron and towards the next event. On his way, he would briefly glanced down at the pokeball by his waist; his amphibian compatriot recalled into the device in an attempt to recuperate some energy, as well as to hide away from the sun above.

"ATTENTION PLEASE!!" came an announcement from just up ahead; "Can anyone wishing to participate in the battle tournament please start making their way to the registration kiosk. Registration will close once we have our 100th participant, so please don't hesitate to register" continued the voice.

Almost instantly, Rio would feel the surrounding atmosphere change; the attention of many other would-be passer-by's now focused towards the source of the voice as those eager to participate now found the fire within themselves stirring; a flame nurtured by the thrill of battle. Like them, Rio found his heart stirring, the combative beast within himself slowly awakening to the thrill of competition. While he was by no means a master trainer... he had undergone enough sparring practice in Ransei to feel unperturbed by the looming obstacles that dared stand in his way.

Chugging the remnants of his drink, Rio would toss it in a nearby bin before making his way towards the kiosk, pushing past a few of the other slowpokes as he battled his way to ensure he made the 100 man limit.

~~~~~~~~~~
"... and that will be it... Thank you for signing up... uh.."
the attendant paused. "Rio Tomohiro. Your number is 49. Good luck" he finished, handing over the neccessary paperwork as well as his participant number.
Jeden stood in line alone. He'd recalled Snap since the restless pup had taken one look at a crowd full of people and pokémon and threatened to bolt. Usually, Jeden would be revelling in the anticipatory air of trainers hyped for battle, but without anyone at his side, he was feeling a bit detached from it all; a little lost, a little lonely — maybe a hint homesick.
The trainer took out his pokédex, itching for something to do. He hadn't brought his phone since he wouldn't have reception in Kanto, and his pokédex could make calls in emergencies.
He browsed through the news while the line inched forwards — and the longer he waited, the more eyes he felt on his back; judging stares of bystanders, and hadn't they said the event wasn't well-publicised? Where were all these watchers coming from?
Jeden eventually made it to the front; he grinned and greeted the attendant who scanned him in — participant number 61.
And then he fled, weaving through the crowd and looking for some pokémon-friendly café to spend the rest of his time and order a late breakfast.
With the time ticking by the Battle Challenge drew ever closer.
One by one the contestants gathered to be among the 100 chosen to participate. And the desperation was becoming palpable.
Even from where she sat on her bench Lorraine could see there were those trying to cut the line, trying to challenge folks for their position in line to Pokemon Battles, etc, etc. Most of these issues were dealt with swiftly either by the folks themselves refusing to give in to such tactics while a few had to be broken up by law enforcement. Needless to say those who engaged in the behavior and didn't stop when first asked were escorted away and disallowed from participating.
Oof.
But this was getting more and more exciting by the second. They were almost done gathering contestants. And the setup for the event was nearly complete with plenty of time to spare.
25 full sized Pokemon arena rectangles like those one would see in a Gym challenge were drawn on the grassland's flattest area and spaced approximately 10 feet apart from each other. Plenty of room for an isolated battle. But also just enough room for a hint of unintentional outside interference should any attacks stray from their targets. It added an extra element of awareness to test all trainers participating.
The final gaggle of participants were undergoing their registration, and the event itself would begin in approximately 10 minutes.
Lorraine could hardly wait to watch, as she had every intention of studying how these Trainers gave orders and how their Pokemon responded to said orders. She really needed more battle experience herself. But she wasn't about to risk Blaze in a competition like this just yet.
Adolphian Volkov. Location: Saffron City. Kanto. Current mood: Reserved, but inwardly excited.
Ahh, Kanto. A less dense region compared to his home, but a welcome change compared to the greater number of people. He ended up in the region via plane, and after getting his bearings, he looked around this city he found himself in, Saffron. He failed to have prepared himself before coming here, and in his excitement, he failed to study up on Kanto. However, he knew some basics, and headed into the local Pokecentre. At least back home, they were a good place for a lost trainer to get some guidance, and he hoped such was universal. He adjusted his black lab coat befitting of a Nanocorp Admin and headed though the doors, his Vulpix in tow. Sure, his outfit made him look like some ex-team rocket grunt, but that was merely an unfortunae co-incidence. Team Rocket didn't exist in Stahlblatt. He at least had a badge indicating him as a Nanocorp Employee, the design being kind of planet orbiting a sun, with the letters NCI located in the sun icon. He headed for the front desk and briefly flashed his trainer registration card.
"E-err... Good day, ma'am. I have just arrived in this region, and am rather... Unprepared. I am a new trainer, and I failed to gather information about this region. Do you have any information that could prove useful?" He questioned to the nurse. His Vulpix was curious and hopped up on the desk, laying herself next to the Pokemon healing station. "Kitsi! What are you doing? You're not meant to go up on furniture!" He returned the naughty Vulpix to her ball, but not before she tried to give him puppy dog eyes. Or would they be kit fox eyes? "I... Do apologize for her, she tends to do things without my direction. She's still a young Pokemon." He apologized, clear embarrassment on his face. He'd only been here for less than an hour and his partner was already being a pain in the hintern(German for 'butt', or 'arse'). Hopefully as the two grew, she'd learn to behave.
Being enough of an early bird, Wren was already up and about. He could feel the tickling of the spring breeze against his fair skin and hair as he made the trek to Saffron City on foot, a large backpack full of items hung from his small frame, somewhat cartoonishly dwarfing him. It might have been a surprise to note he could even carry all that stuff, having been a runt his whole life. He had, however, invested in lightweight supplies -- no accounting for durability, but then, stronger things also tended to be more expensive and he had a budget to adhere to -, and so it was no bother to him.
Taking out his PokeDex, he blinked and relaxed. 8:30. Still some time left to go. He sighed in relief, briefly closing his eyes, before averting them towards his companion.
The little ralts seemed to be humming a tune. He wondered whether Gaia was simply in such high spirits, or whether she'd drifted off into her own little world, but - as if feeling his curious gaze on her - the psychic Pokemon turned around, large eyes peeking from under the the long fringe, as she tilted her head. His gaze softened, as he couldn't help but adore his one companion, heartwarming at the innocent look. She was much like a friend, or a younger sibling to him, and it was easy enough to relax around her.
Triiiiiing, triiiiiiing!
A ringing sound was followed by the whooshing past of two bikes - one of which narrowly missed them, as Wren gently pulled his pokemon aside, not being any faster than Gaia with his reactions. It was a stumbling, graceless move, and one followed by hollering. "Watch where you're walking, twerp!" a voice called, now from behind him, presumably belonging to one of the cyclists.
Looking to the ground, he felt a little bit of shame burning within him as he tensed up again. It wasn't quite so simple to relax around people, though. And if one did, they would quickly be reminded why they should not.
He then looked to what lay ahead, eyes finally setting on the entrance to Saffron City, with its welcoming sign propped up on the right-hand side, and a path stretching ahead to the bustling settlement filled with house upon house and flat upon flat. His stomach twisted somewhat, and the nausea came back. A necessary, but not particularly enjoyable aspect of becoming a Pokemon Researcher would certainly be working with people of all kinds, with all sorts of attitudes, and he'd potentially need to deal with cityscapes just as much as the wilderness.
Gaia hid behind his legs now, falling silent. He wasn't sure if she was simply picking up on his own nervousness, or if this was entirely her own brand of aversion toward most humans. Placing a hand on her head, he gently patted the top of his Pokemon, in an attempt to comfort her and she leaned into the touch. In the end, he found the heart in his chest had slowed down before he'd ever realised it had ever sped up, and wasn't sure who did more of the comforting.
Switching out his PokeDex, for the pamphlet he'd grabbed earlier for the Saffron Pokemon Exhibition and Extravaganza, he looked it over to check where he was supposed to see what events he'd be able to make.
'Battle Challenge... hmm...' He frowned, glancing around, before taking out the PokeDex again. Should he try to make it to this event? He looked towards his Pokemon. Neither of them were fighters, he frowned. However, in order for her to be strong enough that they could handle themselves in any area of the wilderness, both of them could use the combat experience. He wished he'd been on time for the Capture Challenge. It would have been a good opportunity to make notes on the local ecosystems, not to mention the Pokemon and their diversity. And if it had all went well and nobody died - "if", his somewhat paranoid mind chipped in -, later in the day he could have popped into a cafe or library that offered free internet and then cross-checked his findings with historical records.
Except -
he sighed
- that's not what happened.
Something tugged at his shirt.
He looked down, noticing the white limb of his Pokemon friend. 'Looks like I got a bit lost in thought,' he realised sheepishly. After all, there would be no battle experience if he didn't register for the battle challenge. 'Now where was I - right, I should probably register for the event...'
Unsurprisingly for him, Kozmotis kept to the shadows.
He wasn't the biggest fan of sunny skies or people, and would much rather simply get on with the task at hand. Golden-silver eyes darting from one direction to another, he surveyed his surroundings for the xth time since he'd stepped off the ferry. He narrowed his eyes, squinting as the sharp, bright light seemed to almost attack his eyes, and proceeded to shade out the light with one long, slender forelimb and hand. The Fennekin at his side obliviously padded along, seeming unbothered - excited even -, ears and nose twitching as she took in the wonders of Kanto.
Unlike Rena, however, Kozmotis wasn't here on a sightseeing or a smell-sniffing trip. Taking out his PokeDex, upon entry to Saffron City, he double-checked the time. Not even nine yet. Even if this was the location, he was more than early.
Shoving the device back inside his pocket, he leaned against one of the buildings for a while, watching the passerbys walk by. Thankfully, Fennekin seemed cooperative to simply plop down by his heal, ears upright, like something of a little guard fox.
He couldn't quite keep away the annoyance as he noted how busy it was. The sheer number of people that seemed to have gathered here would certainly complicate things. 'Why in the name of Arceus are there so many of these pests around here?' he grouched in silence, as he took in the various folks from all walks of life - the different uniforms (or lack thereof), hairstyles, physical features -, briefly confused as to how this came to be. That was until he saw some woman in the streets handing out pamphlets.
Was there some sort of event-
"Remember, folks, if you wish to join The Pokemon Battle Challenge held around this wonderful city of ours, be sure to register by 10:00 AM! And make sure to bring your Pokemon-related enthusiasm with you! Just a reminder: this event is completely free for trainers, so be sure to make the most of the opportunity!"
Of course.
He huffed.
It made sense when he considered it. With the events, there was a greater chance of him being in the right location and a smaller one of coincidentally winding up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Of course, they'd think of that. But, dammit, he was not in the right state of mind at 9 a.m. to consider such things!
"Fen..." the fox Pokemon beside him nodded in the direction of the pamphlet woman.
He took a moment to consider his Pokemon. "What, you want to participate?" he inquired.
"Kin!" she exclaimed as though she might have understood his question. He was almost certain her tail wagged a bit. Odd. Regardless, judging by the way she perked her ears up, and kept looking in the direction of Pamphlet Woman, it seemed as though at least one of them was eager about that day's events. And for his part... well, he supposed it wouldn't do any harm if he attended the event.
Besides, they might just find more than Pokemon out there.
"Alright, that settles it," he said, more to himself than her - though it still got an excited bark out of his companion -, and walked over to the woman, taking the offered pamphlet and looking through it. 'Now then... it should be somewhere... ah, yes... that's right.'
With Fennekin scampering just behind him, trying to keep up on her much shorter legs, Kozmotis found the event area with no difficulty at all. Even though he'd missed the news of the event, he had researched the region prior to entering it. So the location wasn't difficult to get to.
((Er... my edit didn't save.))
