Probably more of a local, Goldenrod city "celebrity" than world famous or anything, but someone interested in organised crime might know him outside of that, he's definitely not a secret or anything.

He's mostly into construction and real estate, he's kind of an old fashioned, brick and mortar sort of guy, so some kind of development or project along those lines would be plausible.

Or Marco does a lot of the charity that's mostly about improving your image and rubbing elbows with the right people, so they could have been apart of some prestigious fundraiser or foundation together as well.

Bear in mind this is not going to endear Gray to Sandy, rather its likely to have the opposite effect.

I think both could work. Gray's father has his hands in just about everything, including construction. His biggest projects are things like stadiums, but I could see him doing business in Goldenrod since it's the Johto's largest city. He does a lot of charity work too, so either one would be good.

People don't really like Gray in the first place, so I don't think it'll be anything he's not used to. He's not really involved in anything his parents or siblings do. At most, he's by himself in some corner at events if he's forced to go. Otherwise, it's like he doesn't exist.

I like the stadium idea, if you ever saw Rock'n'Rolla, then I'm picturing that kind of dynamic, where Gray's Father is the primary investor while Sandy's Father leverages his connections and influence to facilitate stuff like permits and what have you to keep the project running smoothly.

That sounds good. For a lot of projects he's not directly overseeing, he'll just invest and move on to the next thing if no major issues pop up. Stadiums take a long time to build, so it's a good reason for why they could have known each other for a while.
