Persona: Invoke

After the healing light faded, Tsuna felt as though he could walk properly now.

"I think I'll be fine now. I wouldn't risk calling that thing again though, so you'll have to take it from here, Minato."

"Great..."

Some help Tsuna was going to be... if Tsuna couldn't summon his Persona anymore, it would be better to turn back now and come back later.

"We should probably just head back, then." Minato said, voicing his thoughts. "We could come back later."

"Right..." Tsuna probably should have told Minato that he wasn't ready to proceed. But they did find out that Chigusa's Persona had some slight healing abilities, even if the effects were pretty limited.

"Understood." Disappointment was palpable in her voice but she had no intentions of protesting. Minato had fought these creatures before again and again, he knew what he was doing. Something dawn on her though... If I can heal, maybe there's more to my Persona than I thought?

"Wanna guide us back home?" Tsuna asked Minato as he took some deep breaths.

He was very enthusiastic about this whole situation, seeing as how he can summon metaphysical beings to fight with in this strange world. "Common sense tells me we can't summon these things outside of this other world though... which would make quite a lot of sense, actually..." He internally reflected.

Minato nods, turning around, remembering the way back easily enough. Even if he didn't Chigusa would be able to guide the way should they get lost. This wasn't an issue, however, as he and Tsuna returned to the main room where Chigusa was.

"Good work today, you two." With a bright smile, Chigusa welcomed them back to more familiar surroundings. Tamamo-no-Mae would vanish, allowing her to walk freely into the path between both dimensions. She found herself stretching her arms, taking in the chance to let loose.

"Hm..."

Despite the praise, Minato couldn't help but be disappointed at the lack of progress. It had already been a few days and they hadn't been able to get very far into this world. However, once Tsuna recovered, maybe then they could actually make strides.

Tsuna silently accepted the praise, no longer able to muster the strength to speak. Going all out during his first time with such power was quite the thrill, but left him exhausted. "Maybe the other two went through something similar when they first did this..." He thought as cracked his knuckles. For the time being, all Tsuna wanted to do was just take a nice, long nap.

Well, I should probably get going. Maybe do some grocery shopping on the way... Lost in her own thoughts, it would take Chigusa a brief moment to recall her experience with her Persona's awakening once she set eyes on Tsuna. "Um, do you think you can get home by yourself just fine? I had a bit of trouble of my own the other night..." She suppressed an urge to correct herself in case she had hurt the boy's ego. He'll get over it if he's 'strong' or whatever.

"I can get home alone just fine, but I'd rather not walk by myself tonight. If you could accompany me, Chigusa, that'd be greatly appreciated," Tsuna looked towards the girl and awaited an answer. "Ah! Lemme explain, first. With all the stuff that's just happened, I've become a little paranoid that one of those things might try to attack me in my current state. If, perhaps, the two of us were to walk together, then neither of us might not get attacked. Minato can take care of himself from what I can gather... So uh... if you'd accompany me on my way back, that'd be nice."

He rubbed the back of his head sheepishly and gave a smile that was genuine, but had a kind of nervous aura to it. "I hope she doesn't think I'm being a creep or anything... I really could use someone watching my back tonight..."

"Well, I'm going home." Minato said, walking away from the two down the hall.

He went back to the portal and stepped through, leaving the other world behind to head home.

Chigusa started off by tilting her head ever so slightly to the side, gazing at Tsuna curiously. "That's fine..." While she had her doubts as to what he meant by his initial statement, the female could not bring herself to outright refuse him. Once he set things straight with his next words, however, she could not hide her somewhat bewilderment at his reasoning. Or at how much he spoke just now. Still, to see him open up to her like that... She felt glad for it, as if at last feeling at ease with those who shared this 'burden' as it may. Well, one of them at least. "Ah, bye, Minato!" She managed to call out to him before they parted ways. Then, she faced Tsuna, gracing him with a heartfelt smile. "Let's go...?" Her response was short and clear, as if to reassure the boy of her supportof his proposal.

"Yeah, let's go. Thanks for keeping me company," Tsuna returned her smile with one of his own. He didn't have any ulterior motives in having Chigusa keep him company; perhaps he could learn a few things about her as they walked back. Minato had already left before Tsuna could say anything to him, so he decided to simply pass through the portal and return home with his new friend by his side. Today was certainly eventful, and he was very happy to be able to find some new thrills in this quiet little town.

You open your eyes, and are greeted by a soft blue glow. You recognize the scenery around you. Looking forward, you meet Igor's gaze, his eyes fixed on you, wearing his usual large grin. Catherine stood at his side, smiling at you, though much less unsettling. It seems that you have once again been called to the Velvet Room.

"Welcome to the Velvet Room." Igor said, greeting you. "It has been some time since we last spoke."

It has been a few days, hasn't it? It seems like a lot has happened since then...

"I have called you here today to discuss your special power, seeing as you have all awoken to it." Igor explained.

That's why. You should've known he'd be speaking to you after that.

"Your power is called Persona." Igor said. "It is a manifestation of your own heart, as well as your inner strength. It is the power you use to face the world."

Face the world? What could that mean?

"Think of it this way." He added, reading your confusion. "Your Persona is a mask that you use to confront and overcome life's hardships. It is the facade you use when facing adversities and trials."

That made... some kind of sense... a mask that you use to confront and overcome life's hardships, huh...?

Igor quickly waved his hand, three cards appearing face up on the table in front of you. It featured a card you recognized as yours, as well as two others belonging to your companions. The cards depicted your Personas.

"Magatsuhi. Kagutsuchi. Tamamo-no-Mae. These are the Personas that have answered your calling." He said, making the cards all disappear with another wave of his hand.

"However, this power is not the only one you possess." Igor further explained. "As it happens, you are able to wield more than just these Personas."

"You three all possess the power of the Wild Card." Catherine said. "It allows you to collect and utilize the powers of multiple Personas, to change them and use their powers to your will."

"The Wild Card is nothing and everything." Igor said. "Think of it as the number zero. It is empty, yet within it, contains limitless potential."

Igor chuckled, adjusting himself slightly.

"However, as you are now, your powers are still weak." He elaborated. "The power of the Persona comes from the heart, and the heart is strengthened through bonds."

Bonds? You wondered what he meant by that. You didn't need to wonder for long, however, as Igor was nothing if not comprehensive, if cryptic.

"By forging bonds with others, you will be able to strengthen your heart, and by effect, the power of your Personas."

Forging bonds with others, huh? What he was saying did make sense, though you weren't the best at making new friends. However... it seems that you didn't need to try too hard with two certain individuals who you just so happened to be stuck with. Perhaps that could be a start...

"In forming and nurturing these social links, you will be able to gain access to even greater power!" Igor seemed elated by the thought, as if all of this was a game to him, or at the very least, entertaining in some way.

"I am here to assist you on your journey, by offering the services provided by this Velvet Room... I only ask for one thing in return..."

One thing...?

"That you abide by the rules of your contract, and take full responsibility for all the choices that you make henceforth."

Contract? The same contract he mentioned before? You still don't remember signing any kind of contract... but perhaps it was a fate thing that you couldn't wrap your head around if you tried.

"Well, we mustn't keep you here any longer." Igor said. "The next time we meet, it will be of your own accord. I am looking forward to that day."

Your own accord? Once again, you didn't fully understand what it was, Igor was saying, but you still had the feeling that things would reveal themselves in time. You comforted yourself with that thought.

"Until then, farewell."

And with that, the room faded into white.

Tsuna woke up from his trip to the Velvet Room with questions in his head. While Igor had answered some of his questions, Tsuna was left with even more questions. "What contract is he talking about? Meeting of my own accord next? A Wild Card? Social links? What is all this supposed to mean?" He thought as he lie awake in his bed. "Okay, okay, slow down. Let's start from the beginning and try to piece stuff together." He looked at his clock, which flashed 4:56 AM. "Let's piece it together while I get ready for school."

After he heard his parents leave, Tsuna got up and went through his morning routine while putting two and two together."This power is called Persona, and it's based on tarot cards from what I remember about last night..." As he thought back to the moment where he first called his Persona, he remembered crushing a tarot card. When he focused more on the memory, he recalled the specific card he had crushed. "Mine had a king and two horses next to it, I think... I'm not too familiar with tarot, but perhaps I can search it up before I leave for school today." While making breakfast, he next tried to make sense of this "wild card" ability Igor mentioned.

"Wild Cards... They can be anything in any given situation, and they're unpredictable. Hence, 'Wild' Card. If that can be applied to this Persona thing, that must mean I can change my Persona's abilities at will, right? If not, then I have to be able to switch something around with my Persona..." He sat down with his meal, a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich. "Itadakimasu."

"Social links... He said that bonds had to be forged to nurture and increase our ability... I guess that means I'm gonna need to start making friends, or something along those lines... Hold on. Maybe... by building these bonds, that Wild Card thing will grow too! That's gotta be it!" After finishing breakfast and leaving for school, Tsuna continued to try and piece together more of this puzzle with what he already knew. Perhaps his fellow Wild Cards could shed some light on this situation with their own thinking. How coincidental. They all went to the same area to eat at for lunch. It wouldn't be too hard to ask them for their opinions.

Zack wakes up at last, rubbing his eyes as he gets up. Zack briefly looks around his room before sighing through his nose.

"Time for another day of school..."

Zack gets dressed, eats breakfast, packs a lunch, and finally heads off for school. He looks up at the sky as he ponders about stuff.

"Hmm..."

Chigusa's eyes opened to the sight of her bedroom ceiling. Another dream, and this time he mentioned "Wild Cards"…I wonder what that contract he mentioned was. And what did he mean when he said the next meeting would be of my own accord? She pondered this as she got ready for school that day. Half an hour later, making sure that she had everything, Chigusa walked out, careful to lock the door as she headed off to school.

When it was lunchtime, Chigusa did her usual routine of eating on the school roof. She hoped that Minato and Tsuna would be there, for she had things she wanted to ask them about.
