Dex didn’t take kindly to Cassius’s words of warning, that was for sure. “And you really should back off, Spartacus. I don’t care if the plan’s good—how good it is doesn’t matter because as soon as that horn blows, everything’s gonna go to shit. You don’t know these people like I do. I doubt the other team was even able to agree on a plan in the first place.” She scowled at Cassius. No matter how large in stature the man was and despite all of his battle training, she was not at all intimidated by him.
As if on cue, the horn sounded through the woods, signaling the start of the game. Dex’s scowl turned into a devilish smirk. Before anyone could stop her, she dissolved into the shadows and reappeared a few yards in front of the group, running toward the red team’s territory. She knew that her teammates were counting on her to take out the Poseidon and Zeus kids, and she had to admit, that was a pretty solid plan and, most likely, the one that would result in the blue team's victory. The only problem was getting to them without any interference. Sure enough, before Dex could even make it across the river, she ran into Kyra. Dex greeted her friend with a grin, her tongue tracing her upper lip as she spun her bat in anticipation of the duel at hand. The two girls were among the strongest fighters at Camp Half-Blood, which meant they were always put onto opposing teams to even out the playing field. Having them on the same team would be an automatic win because together, they were a force to be reckoned with. Pit them against each other, though, and they'd be occupied for a good while. They knew each other so well by now that they could anticipate each other's moves and were always prepared with a counter strike; it was easy for them to get into a standstill with neither of them leading or losing. Still, it was a welcomed challenge by both parties.
"Let's make this fast, shall we?" Dex called to Kyra. "I've got a flag to steal." As the two girls neared each other, Dex swung her bat, but unfortunately, Kyra simultaneously brought down her sword to intercept, the sound of clashing metal reverberating through the trees. Dex chuckled at Kyra's bat comment. "Well, yes," retorted Dex. "The better to beat your ass with, my dear." Before Dex could get another swing in, however, she had to quickly bring her bat up to block Kyra's next move, but in the process failed to anticipate that her knee caps were also in danger. She winced, stumbling slightly as she grimaced in pain. "Damn, Shawty," she said, laughing through the agony. She was quick to recover, though, and, sidestepping, swung her bat at Kyra in retaliation. This time, her weapon made contact with the other girl's butt, as if to confirm Dex's previous statement about whooping Kyra. Dex smiled cockily, raising her eyebrows in taunt at her friend as if silently asking what the daughter of Enyo was going to do about it.
