Out of Character

Sorry, I'm still here! My parents came up for the weekend to visit me at school. They're leaving today so I'll get all caught up tonight

I quickly glanced at everyone's chats (will respond deeper when I get home from church) but I have Aivree's face clam saved so I wouldn't forget again xD

amra cerkezovic--That is her face claim :3

I shall be back!

I'll mess with the original group tonight! Wait, I mean I'll study for my midterms tonight. Just popping in to say hi before I leave for the whole day unless I get lucky. ;< I'll also announce our newcomers tonight or maybe earlier if there are no more applications? It's already Sunday and I don't see anymore coming at me. Then we can finally start. ;D Please get ready to be auction off to the highest bidder ~

@shygirl3 No worries! Hopefully you had a splendid weekend. C;

This student auction is about to be life. Hunter is probably going to be one of the few people who would willingly put himself on the stage and put on a show. And also be that asshole who would try and get everyone out their comfort zone for a couple of laughs.

Hi!

Lol sorry I am not on to announce the newcomers yet. :< I am having a hard time choosing since all the applications are so well written. It's been a pretty quiet day without my spamming (LOL I think 3/4 of the posts are probably from me).  I'll get back to you guys in a couple of hours since I'm still working on this bee training thing. @_@ I've been here since noon and it's 6:30 and I'm nowhere near done. Once newcomers are announced, they can go ahead and post their CS after I invite them (just because I don't think I wanna do HTML for a long while now). And then we can start the role play and the relationships on the side :) .

Yup! As undegrads, we get to work with professors in their lab and gain research experience. I'm working with pesticides and how it affects bees' cognitive ability. My only problem is that they keep dying on me. :( And the experiment takes me roughly 7.5 hours.

Anyways, good news, lol I got two more male applications. Bad news, I can't seem to decide who I want in the role play. But I'll try to bring in some diverse personalities and fields.

LOL yeah but I got 4 male applications and 3-4 females? lol that's 8 applications for only two spots. >~<

I'm home! Lol first, I'll catch up on our one x one and then figure out the rest soon. Man I feel so bad whenever I have to reject CS. :( Especially when you see the amount of work put into it.

Welcome home! & I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN ;;;;;; idk how you do it. I'm a pushover when it comes to RPs so it's hard for me to reject CS even if they got the rules or concept of the RP wrong (I still do "reject" them but man the feeling ughhh)

LOL Right. Geez. I know NessieAlways always get at least 20+ applications for her detailed role plays and she usually only accepts 6-10 (max) which means she's combing through and getting rid of half. And geez, lol, it's probably why I don't make too many role plays. Rejection sucks.

True. But tbh I'm actually looking for more group RPs to join rn but there's really nothing that catches my eye.

Rofl, I was looking for some 1x1 and I feel like our writing styles aren't matching up so I get bored so fast. :( I think it was the first time where I wrote 4-5 paragraphs and I got a 4 sentence reply LOL. And the spelling mistakes are bugging me.

And yeah :/ there aren't any rp that are interesting me either. Most of mine have died after the update and lots of people disappeared along with the bbcode.

My friends ;D! I have the characters narrowed down so this role play will start by tomorrow. Just a few quick shout outs.

1. I have two midterms and a presentation this week which means I'll be on and off but replies will be made.

2. Don't forget to establish relationships with the new characters and figure out your "character arc" (this can be discussed later. Xav  will probably be first for funsies and as an example and I always throw my chars under the bus).

3. Think of who you want to auction off because that's really happening. ;D And we're going to start just a little bit before the auction begins so I'm going to need everyone to discuss who's getting auctioned and it's also time to plan dares/bets made between friends, and extra stuff so we can incorporate that into our posts. This can be done when all the characters are up & running. C:

Triple post from me but by now it's no surprise. LOL.

I have pondered and I've also decided our two new characters. This is based of whether they will be a good addition to the group as a whole and mainly because I want to see their character development. I tried to pick out characters that aren't too similar to ours (but of course, not entirely different) because rivalry is indeed fun to see.

This character is considered the brains and I'd like to see how that development will go with Abigail (assuming she's a competitive person). Plus, Xavier is never a fan of the "smarter ones" so I'd like to explore some friction there. Best known for his self deprecating humor, please welcome Nathan Gelding @Kodiak.

I would also like to introduce a character who I believe could spice up some drama between us all (eventually, maybe ;D). I believe the personality differences between this person and possibly Xavier/etc could cause friction within the group dynamic and because there will be so many "group" things to do such as the "group project" & the "group carnival event". Best known for his irritable mood and cold personality, we'll be having Zakary Price @constellation join us.

Since we do have so many extroverts and out-going characters, I believe these two would be a great addition to the overall dynamic. So I've decided to post your CS on here due to the differences in timezone so people can start thinking about how the interactions between characters would work. Furthermore, you'll still need to post your lovely characters in the students' information page lol. Feel free to decorate it anyway you want.

Faceclaim: Matthew Daddario

Written & Roleplayed by : @constellation

Name: Zakary L. Price

Nickname: Zak | Preferred name.

Age: Eighteen

Sexuality: Bisexual | Questioning – but leans towards girls.

Gender: Male

Birthday: April 28th | Taurus.

Track: Science | Taking after his parents.

Appearance: To the kind passer-by, Zakary may come across as a simple attractive teenager. His fairly attractive features would most likely catch your eye if you saw him, and you may even turn around to give him a second glance. The good-looking young adult stands at six feet two inches, his toned body lean and built due to his constant workout routines; weighing a good one hundred and fifty-five odd pounds. His dark brown hair can be seen wavy/curly with a bed head sort of hairstyle depending on how he feels - though it's most likely going to be messy due to his lack of maintaining it. Many people tend to confuse Zak's eye colour, but in the sun, they are seen as a deep hazel with a speck of orange in the middle. The first thing people tend to notice of Zak is his appealing, pearly white smile.

His usual clothing attire consists of dark colours such as dark blue, black, grey and maybe sometimes even white. He tends to wear sweaters/jumpers on a regular day, topped off with a leather jacket of some sorts and pair of skinny/ripped jeans. He enjoys wearing simple caps in block colours - white or black to be precise - with words such as 'youth'. It seems as though Zak puts effort into making himself look good, but in reality he doesn't try - he tends to stand out due to the aura he carries.

Personality: Zakary has a collected nature. He is known for being rational and practical, using logic over feelings to make his decisions, but finding someplace in himself to be spontaneous. Once Zakary sets his mind on a goal, he does everything he can to achieve it, but usually doesn’t give himself the recognition he deserves. He is patient, waiting for opportunities to arrive when the time is right. Zakary is anything but a daydreamer, refusing to get carried off by fantasies - he focuses on the present.

Though he looks relaxed, “living in the moment”, Zakary is often moody and irritable. He doesn’t have a high tolerance for people who ask too many personal questions or get into business that is not their own. He isn’t afraid to say a few bitter words when it’s needed. Not to mention, Zakary is stubborn and self-centred. Appearing this way usually because he thinks his choices are perfect and thereafter rarely changes his mind. He’s also conscious of and motivated by how events might affect him, leaving people more likely to perceive him as selfish.

On top of it all, Zakary is icy, much like his divinity. Price is very reserved, classically shy or introverted. Cutting himself off from others, he stops the progression of relationships from going beyond a certain point. Because he thinks so logically, people view him as insensitive. When he tries to exercise his empathy, it hardly comes out right, and so he does nothing to prevent this; moving in another direction with little apology or vulnerability. After the death of his parents, Zak feels as though he must take responsibility for everything causing him to put a limit as to how much fun he can truly have.

Quirks: Whenever Zak is placed in a situation where he is distressed, he tends to pull at his lower lip out of instinct - a bad habit that he picked up on from his father. He likes to arrange things by colour co-ordination and is very picky about pens, using only his own or ones he carefully picked out. This is to maintain his slanted handwriting; like it's italicized.

Memories: Freshman Year; on his first day at Arlington Academy, Zak had completely forgotten to tie his shoelaces, resulting in tripping down a flight of stairs. He woke up, surrounded by strange faces that he barely recognised. For three months, he was called Clumsy.

Six years old; his father took him to Disneyland on his birthday after he’d constantly begged his parents to take him. It was to say the least, his favourite day ever and he still remembers it all till this day.

Eighteen years old; before starting his last year at the academy, his grandmother took him on a trip throughout England for four weeks. It was that month where his love for photography grew after he started a small blog for uploading his pictures.

Life Story: Zakary was born in Italy on his parent’s honeymoon, raised by two of the most loving parents, he could have possibly asked for. His mother and father, John and Nelle Price, were very diplomatic and critical when it came to education. They both had a love for their work and, both wished to have a child, cue the birth of Zak. At the age of the four, Zak's parents packed up and moved them over to New York, where they invested in a company there. However, his parents were always caught up with work, so he spent the majority of his time at his grandmother's. He rarely ever saw his parents, and when he did, he'd always be extremely excited to be reunited with his parents.

As Zakary got older, he was enveloped in the world of mystery, romance, fiction and so much more, thanks to his parents. But one morning, he'd woken up to the sound of a female cry. His grandmother called him over and told him of the news that his parents died in a fire caused by something unknown - that is still yet unknown to this day. Nowadays he tries to smile and forget about the sudden incident that turned his life upside down.

After they fatally died in the fire when he was seven, he continued living in England with his grandmother - a sweet old woman, with a hint of sass and a dash of hard work. Angelina, the grandmother, had raised Zak all by herself and believed in hard work paying off towards your aspirations, and with that note she encouraged him to continue doing so. Eventually, he grew up to be a young man, studying to finish what his parents started at Arlington Academy.

Relationships: TBA

Writing Sample: Tears filled the little boy's ears as he lay on the soft, double bed; the duvet tucked neatly under his arms. The darkness surrounded him, but his grandmother always left his bedroom door somewhat ajar to allow the slightest light to enter.

He waited. Yet, the sound of his grandmother crying continued. Curiosity filled him, and he threw his duvet off before he slithered out of the bed with his teddy bear, his bare feet meeting with the wooden floorboards. "Nana?" He called out, but her tears overpowered his gentle, innocent voice. He wandered towards her cries, his mind only set on finding his grandmother.

There she sat, crouched on the floor with the phone beside her. She sobbed continuously, grabbing at her chest almost as though somebody had ripped her heart out. Zak stood in shock, and confusion as he clung onto his teddy bear tightly. “Nana?” He repeated, slowly heading towards her, dressed in his midnight blue and red spider-man pyjamas.

She brought her watery eyes to stare at the young boy's face; looking at him with pity. Raising her arms, she motioned for him to come closer to her, enveloping him into a hug.

"They're gone..." She whispered softly, rubbing his back slowly.

Zak didn't say a word and instead let her hug him as he stood there, his hazel eyes staring blankly at the wall. After all, he had no clue what was going on.

She pulled back to look at him, her rather light blue eyes staring at him. "Y-Your parents..." She stuttered on her words, "They passed away a couple hours ago."

Zak blinked. Once. Then twice. Her words sunk in slowly. He couldn't believe it. Just a couple hours ago, he was sitting on the phone talking with his father and mother. But he hadn't expected it to be the last time he'd hear their voices. Their last 'I love you'. Slowly, those words crushed everything.

Quote that describes them: "Every man has his secret sorrows which the world knows not; and often times we call a man cold when he is only sad." -Henery Wadsworth Longfellow

"Nerd has so many negative connotations. I prefer the term scholarly."

Written and Roleplayed by: @Kodiak

11 January | 17 | Male | Drama: Stage Production

Appearance

When clean-shaven, Nathan has a youthful, almost cherubic face. His blue puppy-dog eyes (a hair too close together), clear skin, and sheepish expressions are irresistible to old ladies. Over the past couple years, he's tried to grow out a manly beard but so far has only managed a layer of light, uneven scruff. Not one to follow hairstyle trends, Nathan tends to keep his sandy blond curls short and manageable. He's pale, possessing the kind of fair skin that will never tan but will burn easily. He's 177cm (5'10") tall, just a smidge above the national average, has a lean build with no obvious muscle definition, and a slight slouch. His style is casual and comfortable: jumpers, jeans, and Vans are his go-to staples when he's out of uniform. Though he's in modern apparel, there's a distinct old-fashioned quality about him. Occasionally, he'll dress up with a button-down or wear a blazer over a T-shirt. But the Vans are non-negotiable.

Personality

Sometimes, as Nathan works on a production, he watches the performers with awe and envy, knowing he'll never experience the blissful rush as an audience showers him with admiration and praise. From the quiet of the control booth or the shadows in the wings, he wonders what starring center-stage would feel like. Uncomfortable, most likely. Apart from his terrible stage-fright, he knows he's not suited for the limelight. He doesn't have the charisma or charm of a leading man, not to mention any talent worth performing. And, the odd private fantasy aside, he doesn't care to be the center of attention. He knows his place in the social hierarchy and is perfectly content hanging out between the underperforming loners and the annoying overachievers.

What he has, however, is self-deprecating humor and realistic expectations. He knows he's not popular and accepts that he probably never will be. He laughs at his own pasty complexion and pathetic lack of muscle definition. He knows his ghost hunting hobby is uncool but he continues with it anyway. When he's snubbed or ignored, he pretends as though he received a perfectly normal response. Sure, he'd love to be the hero, save the day, and get the girl but the likelihood of that happening is slim to none. At least he has his stellar grades. Academic security - always a comforting thought.

While considered a bit of a nerd, Nathan is far from shy. In fact, one of his best qualities is his candid sociableness. He's comfortable talking (and talking back) to anyone, regardless of background, social status or personality. He'll treat most people like long-time friends. He'll gossip with strangers and share personal information with acquaintances. But  when he's dealing with someone particularly unpleasant, he'll stubbornly fight to get the last word. In these situations, he doesn't think before he speaks, which has on more than one occasion gotten him into trouble. He's a smart guy, armed with a wealth of knowledge, but every so often he just isn't very bright.

Quirks

  • Wants to prove the existence of ghosts; likes to investigate paranormal activity.
  • Has an excellent memory for trivial details.
  • Begins and ends each day with a cup of tea. Milk, no sugar, thank you.
  • Talks to himself frequently.

Memories

  • He was twelve when he went on his first ghost hunt. He snuck into an old cemetery after hours and staked out near an allegedly haunted mausoleum. Though he nearly got hypothermia and didn't bring the right camcorder, he swears he saw a ghostlike figure vanishing into the tomb.
  • The year he turned ten, his parents took him and his sister camping on the Isle of Skye. It was freezing but amazing.
  • Once, as the victim of a cruel prank at school, Nathan wet the bed. He was thirteen at the time.

Life Story

Nathan grew up in a nuclear family of four in Glasgow's trendy West End. As children of successful hoteliers, Nathan and his sister Irene's lives were far from ordinary. They lived in a top-floor apartment of a luxury five-star hotel and, as children, toddled in swanky lobbies and glamorous ballrooms. Meals, if not brought straight to the room, were enjoyed at private tables in the hotel's restaurants. While their parents worked, Nathan and his sister hung around various members of the hotel staff who watched them on a steady rotation. The Gelding children also had expensive toys and gadgets and access to a variety of recreational services. They wanted for nothing.

Life may have seemed golden and rosy, but a five-star hotel was not a prime environment in which to raise two precocious children. Mr. and Mrs. Gelding were as married to their work as they were to each other. Taking care of sixty to one hundred guests was exhausting enough. Though never intentionally neglectful, they hardly had time for family. More often than not, the children were on their own. Fortunately, Nathan took to this freedom immediately and effortlessly. He read voraciously and filled his time looking for ghosts, building robots, and teaching himself to play the guitar. His mind was filled with random facts like when the moon would rise, the temperature at which gold liquefies, and the Latin names of all of Britain's native birds. As a child, Nathan didn't have many friends.

As he grew older, he developed a passion for working with his hands. He took great pleasure in taking clocks and telephones apart and putting them back together (much to the annoyance of his parents considering the items were hotel property). Soon, he began designing gadgets of his own. For a while, Nathan's hobbies were just hobbies. After a professor recommended production design as a track option, considering how much Nathan liked to tinker, he decided to give it a shot. He's never looked back since.

Nathan imagined once that he was a prince. The hotel was his kingdom, the staff was his knights, and the guests were his people. When he woke, he'd summon breakfast to his chamber, as a young lord might do, and enjoy his sausage and beans in his plush four-poster bed. Then, after he'd washed and dressed, he'd check in with the maids to see if violence from afar was stirring. They'd say:

"An American couple checked in last night, sir. He's nice enough but she's a nasty piece of work." Indeed, it appeared trouble was on the horizon. As heir to the kingdom, it was his duty to keep the peace. He couldn't make an enemy of America.

"Have a bottle of something nice delivered to their room," he'd say with grave dignity. "They must know Scotland is their ally."

The maids would stifle their giggles and play along. "Right away, your highness." It was good to be a prince.

Now, as he looked up at the Victorian building, he smiled at his childhood imagination. There were no turrets or towers. There was certainly no moat. Though palatial, it was no palace. Just a grand building whose modern luxuries and old world charm accommodated the affluent. It was also home.

"Welcome back, Nathan," said a dapper man at the door. "Had a nice term, did you?"

"Thanks, Fergus," said Nathan. "It was okay. Still haven't caught any ghosts, but I'm getting closer."

"Good for you, lad. You'll get 'em one day. And what of your girlfriend, eh? Why don't you amuse an old man with tales of young romance?"

Nathan shrugged. "Still no girlfriend, Fergus. Same as the year before and the year before that." Under his breath, he added, "And likely every year to come."

"How is that possible?" Fergus furrowed his bushy brow and scowled. "Handsome young man like you? I bet you have loads of admirers!"

Nathan patted the doorman on the shoulder. "Fergus, I need to get you a dictionary. Clearly, you have no idea what the term handsome means." With a wheezy laugh, Fergus waved him inside the lobby of The Countess Hotel.

I promise this is my last post. LOL I won't spam the OOC anymore since I'm about to head to bed. But some events have been changed so go check it out. I will delve into the specifics of the the Annual Senior Auction & Dance tomorrow morning lol when I'm a bit more coherent and when everyone has officially joined the role play! C:

@Kodiak & @constellation welcome to the gang! to avoid spam it's probably best to just PM me if you want to work on relationships regarding my baby, Vee. Or feel free to just post your suggestions here and we'll work off from there.

Ahhhh! I'm so pumped! Thank you for the warm welcome, @Aster! And of course, thank you for inviting me to the group, @FirePolaris!

I'm on a brief break at work now, but when I get home, I'll put my CS in the character thread. It looks like I have a bit of reading up to do, but I'll get on that ASAP, too. I'll be sure to send everyone a PM with ideas about how our characters click (or clash). :)

I'm super excited to be here! @constellation Congrats!!! We did it! :D

Holy crap. xD  Great news to wake up to.
