"The Labyrinth's prone to flash floods. I remembered the Windhsear mines, when we got swept away. I'm worried about my lamp going out in the dark and not see danger."

Isa shivered at the memory, being underwater with no control over your body, and in the dark. Then he raised an alarmed brow. Flash floods? But the poster didn’t say anything about flash floods, did it? That’s dangerous.

“Want me to come over? Stay in high grounds or leave the area, Moss. Don’t the hunters have a ragnite lamp? Maybe that will help?”

As Isa listens to Moss, he started to wonder something about the merman. Tilting his head a bit, he replied. “Safety is not lame. Your life in on the line. Ask for one.” Then he pondered on the question.

”No, ya look like a ninja without ninja clothes.” The redhead recalled those times Moss did impressive feats like parkour up a ruined tower and riding on a wild mechanical bull while trying to get a piece of ragnite and getting hit by the Kutulus. Isa is not as flexible or physically fit as Moss. He knows that it takes years of training to achieve that sort of control over one’s own body to use it in a daily basis in such an extreme way. It mind boggles him that the merman feels insecure about his own strengths and tries to emulate what others expect him to be.

Or what he believes others expected him to be. Isa wondered if this subject matter is lightly touching on Moss’ previous life pressures or something. So he treaded gently. “I believe in your ninja ways. Stealthy sleek.”

Moss can hear Isa’s teasing grin. “Oil lamps and torches don’t work well with water.” It was quiet for a moment as Isa laughed behind a gloved hand. That statement probably ruffled Moss’ metaphorical feathers. So the redhead decided to go in a different approach.

”Moss.” He started, his grin softening to a confident smile. “I know you’ll do good. I’m always proud of ya and always amazed by your strengths.”

Moss just turned his back like nothing happened.

“Good night, Moss - hn?”

Isa twitched at the kissing sounds, giggling. His face flushed pink. “Mwa, Mwa, Mwa, Mwa, Mwa, Mwa~ Mwaaa~ Take care, filos mou~” Moss is so cute. With a deep breathe to calm his fearful nerves and secret anxieties, the redhead took a moment to himself in quiet. Then he returned to work. After work, he returned to the room and slept.

Having pleasant dreams again.

"Next Day, Ciros Labyrinth"

One day, he'll turn that filos mou into agapiméni mou. Moss sighed at the thought. For some time he imagined what it was going to be like to be more than . . . temporarily dating? Is that what this was with Isa? He wondered if it will be more than a year if he sees him again. He wants to spend more time with him, romance him so much that it will be hard for other people to win him over. Perhaps after this job, he won't take another one that'll pull him far from him. Also . . . how does one romance Isa?

Moss fell asleep thinking of ways to do it, come to think of it, what does Isa like in him? Why did he choose him? Hmmm, he'll ask him tomorrow.

The next day, after oiling his gear, sharpening his spear, sewing in some more foliage into his ghillie suit and limbering up, Moss voice greeted Isa a good morning. Today's weather was sunny and he and the hunters were able to reach the ruins without any problems. He did burn his breakfast though, that has never happened in a long time, he was just so nervous about going there alone. But he set his jaw firmly, wrapped his ghillie suit around him, and with a nod at the hunters who got ready with their bows and took positions around the ruins, he stealthily made his way down to the entrance.

Isa was at the Iron Itsumade when Moss messaged him, snapping out his grogginess with a bright smile. It might have surprised Sen at the sudden change of mood as the redhead replied back to Moss.

“Good morning, Moss~ remember to stay safe and ask for a ragnite lamp!” At the end, Isa shook his head. Rolling his eyes at the merman’s insistence of just using the oil lamps and torches. So now, he is helping Sen reshape an old sword.

"Afternoon, Ciros Labyrinth"

Moss didn't encounter any raptors after he roped down into the ruins. Switching his camouflage to better suit the old stone bricks and wet mossy rocks, he silently made his way deeper into the labyrinth, not putting out any light for the cracks and holes above let through pillars of gold morning light that illuminated the sprays of water dripping down from above and buzzing insects.

Taking out a blue chalk from a pouch, he checked the map and then marked the stone corners he passed as he made his way deeper towards the nest. His going was slow, careful not to make a sound and moving from hiding spot to hiding spot. Everywhere there were signs of the raptors, muddy claw prints, bony remains of carcasses, shed scales, slashes on the stone bricks, and the stench of something rotting.

There were three silhouettes of small mounds that were breathing some ways away from him.

Moss stopped. He had come upon a great chamber where the leafy overgrown stone and gold idol of some forgotten horned being sat on a dais under a column of light. There on the lap of the idol were three sleeping raptors. Moss was sure that if he woke one, all of them are going to wake up and gang up on him. He crept up quietly, climbing on the roots that have encircled the idol's leg over the years and up to where he could get a good stab on the raptor nearest to him.He took a deep breath.

RAWRRRRRRR!

The raptor he stabbed through the eye let out the most ungodly piercing racket. The two leapt up, awake, as Moss pulled out his bloody spear and stabbed the second one through the neck. It hissed, it clawed; the third one pounced on him --- he leapt back, and underestimated just how far the raptor can leap and it caught him in mid-air and they both went crashing down the dias.

"Ahhhhh!" Great hooked talons raked his chest, as he jammed his spear in between its snapping jaws, trying to wrestle it away from his head. It was pinning him down, its entire weight on his chest as it stepped on him and dug furrows across his stomach. Moss hooked his legs under its arms, around its neck, and twisted --- they both hurled down a pit. Moss grunted in pain, rolling away from the angry raptor that charged --- he knelt, spear dug firmly against the ground --- and the raptor collapsed on top of him, his bloody spear impaled through its chest and out its back.

Moss pushed it away, breathing heavily, heart hammering. He pulled his spear out, and limped far from the scene as possible. Where was his bag. Still on him. Okay. He ran quickly away, following his chalk marks, and hid underneath a hole partially covered by roots. Catching his breath, he opened Isa's tool kit and began stitching his wounds. First one hour. He's doing great! He's doing great . . .

And then he realized. He forgot to cut off the raptors claws and groaned. Please, please let it be there when he goes back. Ugh. He didn't want to go back.

An hour later, he went back, and to his dismay there were three more and they . . . they were eating their dead brethren. No! They might break a claw and his injuries will be for nothing. Moss threw a rock over their heads. It clattered, and they all jumped warily, hissing in warning at the direction of the clatter.

Moss calmed himself down, crept up closer, just underneath the lap of the idol, and then thrust his spear into the belly of one with its back turned. It shrieked, crashing down the dias as it writhed in pain, bleeding. The other raptors turned around, hissing, looking for him. They jumped down, but Moss had already silently crept away and around them. From above he stabbed one between the neck and the skull, it dropped immediately; the third leapt on him, this time his shield was up, but once more, the weight of the raptor sent him crashing down into the same pit he fell earlier. He rolled up immediately, shield in front of him. The third raptor was above him, roaring, it snapped at the air, and then it jumped down --- Moss threw his spear and impaled it through the eye, he sidestepped and avoided the thing that crashed in a heap next to him.

He exhaled. This . . . this battle went better. He pulled out his spear and flicked the blood away. Immediately he opened Isa' toolkit, took a saw, and began to saw off the toe claws.

Later that lunch time, Moss was drying some pork belly he bought from bird village yesterday. He had left the ruins, and was now high on the cliffside of the ravine, sitting on his sleeping bag connected by ropes that were attached to pitons hammered deep into the cliffside. His little cocoon hammock. His little fire was on a slab of stone jutting out, and his new blue crockpot was frying the the last of the meat into rations he needed to dry. Hanging next to that were six pairs of cleaned raptor claws. Moss was pleased. That was worth a lot in the market. He winced as he moved the stitches on his stomach, and laid back down on his sleeping bag to rest. His hands glowed white again as he cast a spell, the Atlantean runes spreading up his arms like tattoos.

"Hey, Isa, hunt's going well. I've got six raptor claws just this morning. I'm currently outside the ruins making lunch. How's work in the smithy?"

Back in the Iron Itsumade, a single young man froze. Holding onto the metal clip tight in surprise as Moss’ message came through. Then he perked up, smiling bright in excitement. Sen was looking at the redhead, raising a brow when he suddenly stopped to smile. He waved a hand when he saw the same questioning he received before. Moss must have messaged.

Isa walked to the back and into the shed, sitting on a small bucket inside. “Hi Moss! I’m glad you’re hunting is going well! Hope you’re eating. Smithy work is tough but worth it. I got to help make a cool looking sword.”

Moss suddenly saw in his mind his gold crown floating down the palace floor, his mother, her majesty Queen Adamaris, yelling at him in front of her entire court; his older's sister's disappointed scowl, the merefolk of Atlantis swishing their tails and raising their arms in roaring approval of his sentence. His friends in stone chains begging to give him a lighter sentence. And the shamed silence Moss kept, still drunk from drinking too much olax from the party last night. Moss shook his head.

"They come in many forms, usually something about their good deed." he continued, conversationally.
