Active [Othaia Frontier] Rescue Kevin's Friend

Aimi

Aimi stared curiously as the smoke soon became a monkey. ‘Summoning,’ they called it. Something the strange bird bard would try on his own. She calmly walk backwards a few steps to join Aiko, addressing her for the first time in a while. "Is this ‘summoning ritual’ common in this world…?" she murmured, too quiet to hear for any but Aiko and the auditorily-gifted.

After Kevin’s mostly expected reaction, Aimi specified, "It means to… move them into a place where you have an advantage. Thankfully, these cliffs should prove useful. I’ll simply fire down at them from the top, and our close-range fighters can cut off any gentle slopes that could allow them to approach."

Wandering off, Aimi eventually took her position on a nearby cliff, lifting the glass cannon and carefully aiming the barrel towards something. Orcs and ogres were often very similar in fiction, so it was hard to place which was which at such a large distance. Once everyone seemed to be in position, and reasonably ready, she fired.

…sorta.

The shot was loud, but the large glass marble barely left the cannon, instead dropping straight down like she’d accidentally shoved an especially shiny rock off the edge.

"Hm. That’s considerably less range than expected. There appears to be some sort of error with the device…"

Velvet went silent when she saw Desmond's reaction at what she and Kevin did and looked back the bloody legs with the leeches still on it. His reaction was a very normal one, she was a bit careless here because Kevin was good enough to offer her some, but this kind of reaction was why the reason she usually didn't do her meal in front of other people. Even she realizes that the longer she's living as vampire the more desensitized she become towards blood and gore in general. She bowed to Desmond apologetically and collected her leeches.

Kevin reported that he spotted three enemy. She could see that they're guarding the ruin's entrance. The casters and gunners could probably deal with them from the distance, but there's also a chance that they might retreat into the ruins and warned the others instead.

"I'm going to try getting a drop on them." Velvet announced before she put on her hood to cover her head and ran alongside the cliff, trying to find a way to place herself right on the cliff above the entrance.

"I don't know about THIS place, but it's a thing in worlds like these! We are sorta doing the same with our weapons, you know." Aiko replied a tad too excitedly as Aimi inquired about more details regarding this summoning. Of course, her own knowledge was limited to what is, or maybe was, fiction.

"Killzone...?" She then added, tilting her head slightly as everybody prepared to lure the enemy into a trap. Not that she completely disagreed with that but... "Didn't we agree on trying diplomacy one more time, sort of?" She asked towards the group, yet everyone except maybe the Monkey Witch seemed to have made up their mind. "At least we could TRY to ask..." Aiko murmured, moving right to the entrance.

Without a visible weapon and huge lack of expertise, the young hero made the perfect bait?!

"A... monkey..." Helena stated the obvious as it climbed up onto her shoulder. She turned and met eyes with it before setting her sights forward, "I'm sure I can find some use for him."

Desmond began his own conjuring ritual and Aimi asked a question.

"Well, it is my major. Still... still working on mastering it, though."

Given the way that Kevin was talking about the "gnomies", Helena was convinced that trying to talk to them would've been a waste of time. So, instead, she figured she'd help with getting the enemy into a "killzone". If nothing else, a monkey could climb and a monkey could shout. So...

"Monkey." she turned her attention back to the primate on her shoulder, "Climb up the ruins opposite that one-"

She pointed towards Velvet.

"-and start making noise when you get close to them. Should help distract them long enough Velvet to get in."

Actions (1/3)
1). Order the monkey to climb up the ruins opposite Velvet, then start shouting to draw the attention of the guards.

Desmond's preliminary investigation using his reptilian senses would reveal that the three guards stationed just below the group were in fact two orcs and a particularly chunky looking ogre. It was obvious the trio hadn't noticed the group yet. His little eyes would be able to make out a spear, a crossbow and a pair of shields as their armaments respectively. After that was the mystical ritual utilizing his prehistoric tome. A puff of smoke would circle the spot in front of Desmond before taking a vague bipedal shape. Sitting on the ground and doing its best to orient itself was some kind of prehistoric reptile. The creature was roughly Kevin sized but far more bestial compared to whatever Kevin was. Approaching Desmond with its tail swaying from side to side. Rows of pointed teeth could be seen inside of its mouth once it playfully licked Desmonds face. Luckily the little raptors song about wanting a sharp toothed carnivore seemed to have paid off.

Aimi's attempt to fire off her glass cannon at the three guards resulted in the spherical projectile slowly rolling down the cliff face. Hitting a napping snake on the head and making an audible splash in the water below. The crossbow orc looked over, tightening his grip on the weapon in his arms. He just heard a loud noise. Approaching the spot where the orb was floating in the water. He found it shining in the morning sun, curiosity coloring his eyes. Looking up at where the orb may have come from. The orc held out his hand as if checking for glass orb rain. Squinting at the sun before returning to his post. It was clear that Aimi's failed attack hadn't yet revealed their presence.

Velvet and the Helena Monkey both began their individual parkour infiltrations around the same time. Velvet efforts got her pretty close to the area just above the entrance. However it seemed like any attempt to move closer may have been pushing it. Helena's Monkey somehow noticed this and scurried atop the spot opposite where the vampire was currently spectating. Picking up a few rocks with his neckerchief. The Monkey lobbed a rock at the ogre, hitting the brute in the back of the head. Once the big guy turned to see what was up. He would only find a monkey playing up how excited it was at tossing rocks. The ogre said something to the Monkey while shaking his fist at the little creature doing its best to act as a distraction. All of a sudden, something whizzed past the Monkey's head. A small trickle of blood stained its cheek red. Velvet would be able to spot the Crossbow Orc having shot at the Monkey with his crossbow.

This would be the first time she would be the one on the side that initiates an attack. Before, Velvet had always been on the defending side, trying to protect someone else from an incoming danger. Were they doing the right thing? She wasn't sure actually. She would be lying if she said she didn't think Kevin as morally and intellectually questionable, but... wasn't that exactly what she wanted to do? Helping people who had no one else to rely on? But Kevin had Wizard, but Wizard for some reason didn't want to help any further. Why?

After all that preaching she did before about comparing their case with pet kidnapping and its terrible implication, she was the one who chickened out on the last second. Her resolve was pathetic. She mentally scolded herself.

The sound of crossbow bolt whizzing through the air jolted her back to reality. Seeing the blood trickled down the monkey's head stimulated her adrenaline. If she didn't do anything fast, the monkey would get shot again. Time for her to act. Looking at the crossbow guard below, Velvet exhaled her breath before she leapt off the cliff towards the direction of the guard with her elbow pointing downward as if she's a wrestler performing a diving attack. If it connects she would follow by yanking the crossbow from the guard.
