Fantasy [OPEN] The Price of a Life

Role plays always come first what are you saying? xD

I'm lucky, I'm on my summer vacation so all I have to worry about is work. xD

Man, that's gotta be nice. As soon as the week is over it's back to non-stop exams... Though I do never have to wear uniform again. Bingo!

Also, two months of summer holidays. It's amazing.

Ahh, @Missykay the info's always going to be there if you need it! No pressure to remember stuff, heh...

@ProjectMischa Same. Once I'm done with school and summer, it's off to college... Gosh, I won't even be 17. I'm so used to hearing about Americans leaving school so much later than people where I live, it sounds too young even though it's normal. Heheh... What are you studying?

@dapperghost Yeah, the typical age Americans start going to college is around 17-18. Sometimes younger if they qualify for early graduation.

I'll be studying in multimedia design at a community college before I move down to another state to study in animation. :)

I already have some experience in that under the belt thanks to where I work, which is nice.

That... just made me realise how young I am. What is a child like me doing on the internet?

.. Bah, who cares! Ghosts have no age!

@ProjectMischa holy-- Animation, that does sound cool. I'm actually going to do a little of that too, but only for one unit. Filmmaking's my thing.

Animating... Is really fun. What software do you use? I really like Toonboom Harmony. It's everything in one program. <3

@Dominaiscna As a career it's probably difficult but there is so much software you can get free trials for. Just look up some tutorials when you're done downloading and it will get easier all the time.

not that i'm an expert haha *chokes*

Ooooh, animation

I don't want to go into it professionally (I'm aiming for being an author), but I certainly do enjoy it as a hobby. Does take up a lot of time though :/

I'm just a schoolkid dabbling in animating software so I couldn't tell you much about the career... But I think getting used to the interface is the hardest bit of learning to use software. Every company has different icons for different features, some programs have their own features that aren't anywhere else and it's just generally confusing.

Animating itself isn't actually that hard... It just takes forever.

@dapperghost I actually have ToonBoom on my laptop :) I use that to animate, and I've been making short promotional GIFs for the company I work at, which has helped me improve a lot with animating.

Though I'm also looking at an opensource animating program created by Studio Ghibli. It looks really neat and I might try that out too since it's free.

As far as pursuing animation as a career, there are trade schools specifically designed to help with that, and that's what I'm planning to go to after college. The one I'm looking at invites people looking to hire animators at their graduation ceremonies so they can check out the graduates' demo reels and see who they like the best :)

The Ghibli one? You mean OpenToonz? I tried that one too but the interface was REALLY weird. Everything was sideways and the instructions are in Japanese. So I gave up on it in less than a day, Toonboom's software is a lot better imo.

And... Animation schools! Huh! I don't think I'd want to pursue animation as a full-time career because animators are supposedly underpaid... But it would be a super-fun hobby.
