Fandom [OOC] Titans Chat

Due to an accident at work, I'm going on an eleven day stretch. It may be a minute before I spit replies out. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Sidenote: it's fucking cold outside.

I'm a little surprised that worked. It was a random thought I added to my post. I figured he was at least sensitive to his magic to some degree. I didn't expect him to have success with it :P

Sir Les Paul Sir Les Paul

Alright, so I work the next four upcoming nights. In that time, I'm going to allow players to continue posting how you see fit. After that, I'm going to timeskip to the next morning.

In this time, I'm going to also try to retroactively work in Hero Points. I tried to get them started January first and kept a running tab, but it's not precisely easy. They're a lot of work I thought I would enjoy, but it turns out, I totally don't like grading posts. lol

Quick explanation of the random post: it's basically to just explain that they got out of the Tower and are going to a real McDonald's (for whatever reason) and to confirm where they are to clear up any confusion. I decided to just roll with it instead of correcting it.

Currently not sure where to go with my next post.
She's being taken to the captain, but what do I do from there?

sitanomoto sitanomoto Thoughts, feelings, current path they are taking, Becky could listen in on any conversations the guards are having, umm I think she is shackled as well, possible her thoughts on trying to free herself without letting it be known that she is trying to free herself. Thoughts on her surroundings as well, what she could use as a weapon to take out her guards.

I'm ok with her spotting Alex as well. He's coming to get her and I don't think there are any trees to block her view, unless there happens to be tall grass he can hide in, she still would probably catch a glimpse of him.

Maybe she feels abandoned, thinking Alex either ran off or got killed on the boat ride.

There is a level of independence you may want to work on here. Reason being, if I have to describe each and every scene that ever comes around, this is gonna be a long and arduous arc. Obviously, I tend to be somewhat specific in how things should play out, but I provide tons and tons of background information and comparisons... so it's not outside the realm of possibility to make some additions to your post that add some flesh.

Basically, if all the flavor comes from me, then things will be just a tad more drawn out and bland. Imagination. ;)

K, cool. I just wanted to know because you're the man with a plan, Paul, and I didn't want to screw that up.
Glad I can run a little wild with it.

Protip #9: You can do a lot with a little.

Your reservations in being proactive with what's provide are completely logical, so being full of the ass-pullery wisdom I am, I'm gonna give you some advice. Above all else, Rule #9 applies here. If you find a small creative liberty or break you're comfortable with, let's say... playing a guard or describing the pathway to the camp (which I haven't done yet), then take that small thing and make the most out of it. You don't need to run off and make your own mini-arc. Sometimes, these creative spurts are as small as, oh say, trying to pick-pocket one of the sailors or starting a fight with them somehow, perhaps after grabbing a dagger.

A good example of this is actually a recent one in Gotham. Barnum, the Ringmaster, has the ability to basically hijack the abilities of anyone within his range that is marked for his circus. One of those abilities includes an area of affect that certain metahuman powers of a certain strength just plain don't work. Drake intended to use his shadows to intervene with Barnum. If he did, he would find he literally wouldn't be able to, but the point is that he was thinking proactively with what he was given. Another example is where he was trying to make a call on his wrist device (which can't make calls) but did something to still get the attention of NoOne. Even the smallest actions can still be fleshed out and merit some type of response.

With that said, there is a rule of thumb to this. You get to make the action, you don't get to choose the reaction. So, when taking these creative leaps, what you're effectively doing is giving me a cliffhanger for the next post to follow up on.

Protip #2: No plan survives the battlefield.

As a GM, this is a must. Yes, I'm the story guy, but even I have to adapt. From tabletops to LARP'ing, adjusting to what's going on is important. This ties in real close to that last point. If you get creative, you might not entirely derail a plotline. Another good example was in Gotham:

With the characters of Tick and Tock, I intended to have a drawn out Saw-like session of games and completely circumvent Freddy and Drake getting to interact with Barnum. The goal was for them to just see footage of the Ringmaster abducting Gypsy. However, Freddy and his malicious genius basically just let Tick and Tock kill everyone, expedited the entire storyline and ultimately got to meet Barnum sooner than I anticipated. A lot sooner, actually.

I don't mind these specific types of changes. There are two creative liberties that I do dislike, though. The first is when something makes no sense, and this tends to happen when you're playing less for the action and more to get to some type of goal. I've seen tons of people try to "speed up" scenes and make people/characters/mechanics/timelines make no logical sense. This is real easy to do when you're committing to multiple actions at once, which is why I tend to say it's best to play for action -> reaction/action so forth. The second is when you do something that contradicts what I or someone else have already done. There are a few times when this is okay, but those are plot devices. So basically, I don't mind of the story gets derailed, but I want whatever you do to make sense and not contradict whatever has been established.

Quick update: Regal is having some pretty bad 'net issues, so that's why posting has declined in TI. As for the VIRI, we're still working on that kickstarting (since it's such a sudden, jarring change).

Normally I have a gameplan and while I could do something rash, I'm not. My plan here is to simply wait. Sometimes patience is rewarding and that's what I've decided to practice here.
