Fantasy Ooc and dice/campsite

1st dice roll attempt.

I'd like the groups opinion on how im thinking to make dice work simpler...
For dice rolls im thinking they will be used for three main scenarios.
Combat, conversation and organic.
First two are easy to grasp, what I mean by organic is character's ideas brought up in game or player's ideas asked ooc.

"If I wanted to distract the room while the others spike the punch what number do i need?" That sort of thing.

for how the first two pop up, I'd mention in the rp post the bare minimum needed to succeed.
Say the first battle needs 8 or higher to succeed.
If you rolled 7 your character helped but was unlucky. If you rolled 19 your character was impressive enough that people talk about their actions.

So that means before combat, come to this page and roll a 20 sided die in hopes of beating the DC i mentioned. While you may only need a "5" to do something easy.

The higher it lands the better you do.
1= utter failure
20= damn near perfect
You as a player get freedom in deciding how said failure or perfection happens.
Maybe they backflip and hit the mark like robin hood, maybe they get distracted by a pretty cloud.

It seems simple enough, especially in combat where you have a set AC to try and beat. Speaking of combat, should we post our damage roll with the to-hit roll to save time, and if the attack fails to hit, just disregard the damage roll?

Im trying to minimise the amount of dice needed for everything,
If the combat DC for example is 10 and you roll 15 it's safe to assume you've done damage. you can describe said damage as you like.

If you rolled 8 or 9 the attack probably JUST missed them.
1 means you probably hurt yourself in the attempt.

I can roll with this. Get it? Roll with it? Ha!

i mean i can roll with it. after all i already rolled the dice.

Im thinking the "bullshit" rule can be in effect here.

Which means give me a reason why so and you can add a extra dice or two to your roll.

the sneak roll is 17
"Im a tiny gnome, im sneaky"
add another dice

(sneak roll 34) "the tiny gnome is like a ghost, no one sees them even as they rob people along the way"

Or along the same vein, I could say "I'm a burly minotaur and should be strong enough to force the door open." That kind of thing?

Exactly that. Though I wont lie...
I just found minotaurs in my current run of bg3 and they are much bigger than I imagined ahaha

Your minotaur may have to be more human sized otherwise damn near every encounter/threat that isn't a big boss gets answered with
"im a 12 foot monster in armor, I be physical."

I was going on the thought that the minotuar was human sized. If that is going to be an issue, I can adjust the character to something else.

I could go with a different species, like an elf.

I assumed minotaurs were bigger but the game had them double the size of normal folk aha

If he's more human sized that's ok.
He'd obviously be stronger than most humanoids cause of race etc, it just surprised me when I fought them in game the first time cause I thought...
"Didn't sher wanna be one of these but a paladin?" Lol

Would you prefer if I changed my character? It is no big deal if so.

truth be told, minotaur is a umbrella term in DnD.
for the monster minotaur is the bigger ones, they are generally less intelligent.
the minotaur the players play are smaller and more intelligent, like pc minotaurs are under 8' feet. generally more 7'6'', of course for the adult kind
but wild/monster minotaurs in DnD are generally from 8 feet to 12 feet tall.

and for context generally pc minotaurs are similar size to Goliaths, just that the horns make them appear bigger, and stuff like that

Im happy with whatever, just wanted us on the same page and I think we are.

Thanks for the info, helps me put it all together, what with dnd lasting 50 years or so I haven't absorbed all the stuff yet aha

This is definitely going to be an interesting style of Dice rolling! I like this.

One question though, do we essentially forego the need to watch over our spells/when will it be proper to use them in battle if they're not offensive but defensive or support? My warlock works hand in hand with gaining hp/staying alive pretty much through his false life spell.

Do we also add our proficiencies bonuses with said rolls?

How about each character gets +1-2 for skills or abilities they are good/practiced at.
Say each get a +1 and +2 to something of the players choice.
Like whenever you attack with spell or cantrip you might add +2.
Lock picking is a hobby of theirs they practice often, +1.
That sort of thing, everyone gets one or two and maybe more as they level up.

Warlocks get their spell slots back each short rest if memory serves right...
You should keep track in combat but can assume they don't matter out of combat and reset in-between each battle unless I specify its a ongoing battle.

Can't have a short rest when on the run from a group for example

Interesting! I'll probably import my skills from my sheet then.

NeonFlow NeonFlow what was the final word on the race of my character? Did you want me to change my paladin to be an elf instead? I can have the new character typed up in a bit if you want.
