Realistic or Modern one x one - teen roleplay

( So thinking that her parents say something that sets Zim off? )

Zim made his way to his car and jumped in the drivers seat. He had told his aunt he was going to Skylar's for dinner and she was overjoyed. I think she just likes seeing me happy, he thought. The death of his mother had been hard on Aunt April as well, Zim seemed to be one of her only family members left. He was grateful for her company, but was nervous about leaving her at the end of senior year.

With a huff he drove to Skylar's, not going as fast as he usually does. He was not in a rush to get there.

He texted her, as he was making his way out of the car and up to the door.

(Yeah! Do you have any ideas of what they could say? I have a few things in mind but nothing that could set him off, really)

( Maybe that they don't think he's good enough for her? Orr... They could just keep jabbing at him and correcting Skylar? For example: "Well Skylar would never do that" and then he could finally snap and be like "well actually...." .. Is there anything he could say that would upset Skylar? So she wouldn't talk to him after? )

( By the way i've been meaning to say this, but its been great rping with you ^__^ it's nice to be with someone consistent... I feel like I get ghosted or rp's die all the time lol ALSO, can I call you esor? Or do you prefer something else )

(Oo, he can tell her parents the stuff she’s done, like [obviously] kissing him, she’s drank alcohol, driven really fast, honestly anything at all. Maybe even just the mention of alcohol and kissing makes her parents think it went further, so they’re really disappointed in her- this hurts Sky a lot because she’s devoted a lot of her life to making them proud and he’s kinda just erased all of her work because her parents disapprove of that stuff a lot?

Also same, I love rping with you! You’re a wonderful rp partner, i’m so used to getting ghosted so this is really nice (: Call me whatever you want, honestly, I do not mind!)

( Yesss perfect!! Let's do ittt... And thank you ^__^ Have you been on RPnation for long? )

(Not for very long, since earlier this year! But I’ve been rping for about 7/8 years now!)

Sky checked her phone when it buzzed, and let out a nervous sigh. She opened the door and smiled at him, “Hi. Thank you so much for this.” She spoke before leading him inside.

“Mom, Dad, this is Zim.” She said to her parents as they came to greet him. “Zim, these are my parents.”

The initial shock, probably from Zim’s appearance, was evident on her parents faces for a second or two before they turned friendly.

Her mom chimed in to break the momentary silence, “Hello, lovely to meet you. Skylar has spoken about you quite often. It’s nice to put a face to the name.” She said, though her tone was growing more awkward the more she spoke.

Her dad remained silent for now, simply judging Zim with his eyes. After a second he spoke up. “Zim? An unusual name.”

( Nice nice.. I used to rp on an old forum called Warrior Cats, about 10 years ago. I was pretty obsessed, then I started High School and I stopped doing it for awhile but now i'm BACK haha. idk why but its just something I love to do )

Before Zim could even properly greet Skylar he found himself smack dab in the middle of both her parents. He smiled at her mom to the best of hi ability, "thank you.. You as well." Zim sensed the awkwardness in the whole room, he figured he was in for quite a night. At the sound of her fathers voice he spun around, he usually got this comment from adults. Naturally Zim would sneer back and tell them to f- off, of course its unusual, but he didn't want to start anything. "Uh yes, my full name is Alexander Zimmerson but I liked to just go by Zim." He stated, hoping it would be enough. While they made their way further into the house Zim took in his surroundings, noting a lot of religious writing and some crosses. He then looked to Skylar, hoping he was doing well so far. He knew the initial shock of the dark swept hair and tattoos were enough to make parents skin crawl.

(Same I love it! The trickiest thing nowadays is finding a partner who’s interested in doing the same kind of rp, so I’m happy I found you! I also wanted to say that I know a lot of rps die down and fizzle out after a while, so if we ever notice that happening i’m happy for us to discuss another rp that we could do!)

Sky felt tense and weird, this was a difficult situation and she’d have loved nothing more than for her parents to get along with Zim but it wasn’t looking good.

Sky’s dad nodded slowly. Her mother then smiled slightly, “Dinners ready now, let’s sit.” She said before heading to the dining room where they all sat down. When Sky sat beside Zim she sneakily grabbed his hand, gave it a gentle reassuring squeeze before letting go.

Soon, Sky’s brother jogged downstairs and sat himself down. He was a quite shy boy, so didn’t say much, and was just happy to sit there and eat. Sky didn’t look too much like her parents, they both had brown eyes and straight hair, but it wasn’t something that people would tend to notice.

( Yes me too! We could do different characters and theres a lot of possibilities ^__^
Quick question, should Zim know she's adopted? Or did she not disclose that yet? )

(Hmm I was thinking she didn’t disclose it to him yet, she probably never tried to hide it but she never actually said that she is!)

Zim sat down at the table, and looked to Skylar, grateful for her squeeze of reassurance. When her brother sat down Zim gave him a nod and smiled at him, good someone who isn't going to interrogate me. As Zim was looking at Sky's brother he noticed that she didn't really look like him, as a matter of fact, she didn't really look like either of her parents, he thought as he glanced at both of them across the table. Strange, but he'll save that for another time.

Not wanting to create more awkwardness he spoke out, "thanks for inviting me to dinner, you have a lovely home." The words felt like bile in his mouth. He glanced around, hoping that was the right thing to say. Is it hot in here? Or is it just me.

Sky smiled as he said that, and anxiously awaited her parents response.

Her father gave one simple nod, but her mother gave Zim a smile. “You’re welcome.” But that was it. Her father was next to speak. “So, Zim, are you doing well in school? What are your plans for after highschool?” Sky didn’t like this conversation, she knew it was just a way to interrogate him and her father wasn’t actually interested.

Zim picked up the glass of water in front of him and took a sip, listening to her fathers question. He placed is down and began, "well I would like to think that i'm doing okay and as far as my plans go, well honestly, i'm not sure yet. College is an option, but it doesn't mean everything." Zim thought he statement could go one of two ways, the man would appreciate his candor or it would blow up in his face.

"But Skylar hasn't told me much about your family, have you both also lived here your whole lives?" Zim fired back, hoping the heat would be off him for a minute.

Sky's parents nodded to his question, but her father went back to the previous topic. "Well if you did go to college, which you should, what would you do there? Which college would you go to? Our Sky is going to be the smartest girl at her college!" He grinned proudly. Sky bit her lip subtly, looking between her dad and Zim.

Zim felt a little taken aback. Jeezz a little aggressive much. "Well if I HAD to, I would probably want to do editing in some kind of form. I don't exactly have all the kinks worked out." He took a bite of whatever was in front of him, possibly chicken. "Do you think college is a measure of someones worth?" Zim asked, eyebrows raised. If the old man was going to play this game he was going to shoot it right back.

Sky frowned at the beginning argument, "That isn't what he's saying don't worry." She said to Zim. Her father rolled his eyes, "Not a measure of someones worth. Ambition, maybe. How much they care about their future, yes." He said, all whilst digging in to his food. Sky's mother chuckled softly, "Let's move on, shall we? How is the food?" She asked. Sky smiled, "It's good, thank you for cooking, mom."

( I'm getting Shrek 2 vibes where they first meet the parents and they are eating dinner haha, you ever seen that?
So maybe her dad just keeps bringing up things Sky will do? Go to college/get a job/live here when she returns and Zim gets fed up then spills the beans about what she's been doing? )

Zim decided to leave the topic alone for now. He picked up his fork and started picking up bits of food, it was pretty good. "It's really good Mrs. Hart, thanks again.'" Zim added, trying to make up for the awkwardness he felt was his fault a bit.

(I was thinking the exact same thing hahaha, I love Shrek 2!! And yeah, that sounds perfect!)

After a few minutes of eating, her dad chimed in again. "Skylar is going to do so well at college, get a wonderful job in town. We're so proud of what she's done so far. We will miss her, but we can't wait to see how amazing she is at college, she works so hard! Doing homework every night, studying, spending all of her spare time at the library. That is of course when she isn't working hard at the bookstore! What a little angel." He grinned. "What about you, do you have a job?" He looked at Zim.

Zim felt his hand tighten around the glass he was holding. This man was really going to test his patience, he didn't want to ruin this dinner for Skylar but it seemed like her dad wasn't giving him much of a choice. Setting his glasses down he spoke, "have you ever asked Skylar what she likes to do? I've only been here for four months and it seems like she happier doing different things with me than studying all the time. She's sooo smart, she's going to get into college no matter what." Zim stated, matter-of-factly.

Harshly, Sky bit the inside of her cheek. This was bad, she didn't state it to Zim that he shouldn't tell her parents the stuff they get up to but she thought it was implied. Her father huffed, "And I suppose you just distract her, then, do you? I know our Sky and she loves putting her head down and getting work done. I wouldn't be surprised if you just distracted her from doing well." Sky looked at her father, she wanted to speak up so badly but she was terrified of upsetting him. But she did anyway, she cared a lot about Zim and it upset her that her dad was talking to him in this way. "He doesn't distract me." She spoke calmly.

( So I think we agreed that Skylar will be mad because Zim exposes what they have been doing, but maybe Zim will be mad because she didn't stand up for him and fight for the fact that he is good enough for her? And he thought she was different. Which she is, but she's still under her parents control? Sorry if that sounded confusing haha )

Zim placed both his hands down on the table, it seemed like her dad wanted to go a few rounds with him. "You don't think i'm good enough for her do you? Cause don't worry i've been doing plenty of distracting with her." He spoke, on edge.

(It makes perfect sense, I love that!)

Sky could do nothing but watch anxiously at the argument unfold, she did want to stand up for him but she couldn't.

Her dad nodded, also on edge now. "Exactly that. It's a simple fact, you're not good enough for our Skylar."

Zim looked over at Skylar, wondering why she wasn't doing anything. He grew angrier at both of them, feeling misplaced, like he shouldn't be here or be with Skylar in the first place. He stood up and shoved the chair back, "well I was good enough when were were driving fast and drinking a shit ton of whiskey." he declared, thinking his next move would be to leave and take Skylar with him. He start to move around the table, he looked at her, his eyes pleading as if to say let's go. Hoping that she would choose his side in the end.

Perhaps if Sky wasn't upset that Zim had just told her parents about their risky driving and their drinking then maybe she would've gotten up and left with him. But she couldn't not now. There was no point in her trying to tell her parents that it wasn't true, she could tell on their faces that they just knew what Zim said was true. She looked at him, with sad eyes- she didn't want to make him feel guilty but there was no way she could betray her parents like this. Her dad stood, he was probably too angry to even spit his words out. Sky frowned at her parents, "I'm so sorry."

Her mother stood also, looking at her. A simple, calm yet stern "Get out." escaped her mouth. She wasn't even looking at Zim, he probably wasn't even on their radar in this moment. "Drinking with a boy, endangering your life after we gave everything to give you a good one. You were supposed to be our miracle, our little girl. We thought God lead us to you because you were perfect, but now we see that isn't true." She scolded. After Sky had registered everything her mother said she stood up and left the house, she was too upset to cry, her heart just ached. She walked quickly down the street until the house was out of sight, then she stopped and leant against the wall.
