    ☾ ─ Overall Personality: piper stood out amongst the many katzenbachs, mostly because he wasn't anything like the rest of them. having grown up in a full household, teeming with bold personalities, it became the expectations of professors, family, and friends for each katzenbach to turn out like the next: feisty, loud-mouthed children who ran wild and caused trouble. most katzenbachs were hard-headed, spoiled, and a little self-centered, but it was a fate that piper quickly escaped himself.

    piper can be difficult to get to know. he's incredibly reserved and extremely shy. he finds social interactions with strangers to be very difficult and draining, having a hard time making proper conversation. he's no simpleton, in fact if he's writing he finds himself to be very talented with words, but they just don't come out of his mouth correctly. he gets nervous when speaking with others— he's generally a nervous guy— and he barely stammers out full sentences with people he's unfamiliar with. his nervous nature also means he's bashful and easily embarrassed, frequently flustered by things that others would likely decide was no big deal. romantic encounters turn him beet red and he practically loses his ability to speak, small mess ups make him self-conscious, and too much attention makes him uneasy. most of his troubles in the social area boil down to struggles with overthinking, which he can be prone to. he's quite awkward and usually described as "dorky". because of his shyness and his struggles to speak with newcomers, he has a hard time making friends and was labeled a sort of loner at durmstrang. he's largely okay with it though, as he'd rather observe than participate. he spends a lot of time people-watching and has become very quick to notice habits and behaviors in others, as well as their changes. he can be incredibly perceptive, even if he struggles to apply that insightfulness to actually interacting with others.

    however, if you're persistent enough to get him comfortable in your presence and turn yourself into a friend, the young man can be quite a joy to know. he's very kind, and a friend you'd always wish to be there for you. he takes genuine interest in the things you do, and does his best to remember it all. he supports the people he cares about, encouraging to do the things that they dream of. he goes out of his way to be kind to others, and is considered a good friend by those who get to know him. he does his best there for those who need it, typically filling the role of a good listener or someone to lean on. he also gives out half-decent advice, dolling out wisdom when asked. he's reliable. and, which many value, he's loyal. once you're his friend he's your ride or die. he has a hard time turning his back on his friendships, even when they've done him wrong or he and his companions have drifted apart.

    meeting somewhere in the middle of piper's altruism and apprehensiveness is his sensitivity and self-critical nature. piper is his own worst critic, constantly second-guessing himself and filling his own mind with self-doubt. he lacks to confidence that others seem to be full of, but still holds himself to impossibly high standards. he is an overachieving perfectionist who often feels the need to have everything absolutely right. he downplays his achievements, often feeling as though they are too inadequate for attention. this sort of behavior goes hand in hand with his sensitivity. he is highly in tune with others' emotions, and often finds them affecting his own. he's negatively affected by conflict around him, even if it doesn't involve him, and struggles to handle criticism well. he's also not very good at handling his own emotions, usually deciding to bury them until he can't anymore. he often takes things to heart, but refuses to acknowledge that he does. he tries to be patient, but sometimes things have a way of getting under his skin, and he can only bottle up his feelings for so long before they explode.

    even if he doesn't think it's worth the attention, piper is a hard worker who practically throws himself into everything he does, striving for the best. he's a very smart young man who has dedicated himself to years of studying and books. he's naturally curious, thinking deeply about the world around him. he personally loved literature and puzzles, using both as his own personal escape. he's a natural problem solver. but, he doesn't just think in the black and white of logic. katzenbach can be quite creative, thinking unconventionally about problems, and having a little bit of an artistic streak.

    ─ Backstory: piper comes from quite a large family, standing somewhere in the middle of his siblings. he has four older siblings, three younger ones, and a fraternal twin who always seemed to fit in better than he could. most of the children were fairly close in age, no more two years apart in age, with the exception of little hugo who is four years younger than the sibling closest to his own age. his parents were wealthy, important people. his mother, sylvie, worked in the german ministry of magic as deputy minister and her husband, friedrich, was a writer for die silberne fledermaus, aka "the silver bat", a popular newspaper in the german wizarding world. they were a powerful, pureblooded couple, who possessed a lot of influence over the world they lived in. as a result of wealth, influence, and fame, most of the kaztenbach kids grew up spoiled, entitled, and wild. sylvie chalked it up to having an endearing amount of passion and strong, independent souls. others would blame it on a lack of firm parenting and a house run by nannies with no power.

    piper himself was always different from the bunch. he was quiet, reserved, shy. he didn't fit in with his loud, entitled brothers from the get go. the older boys picked on him a little, and he would often be excluded from their games and fun on account that he was "a crybaby" who was no fun to play with. even his own twin brother would turn his back on piper. as he grew up, it bothered him less and less, finding more fun in reading, art, and books than the sports and ridiculous games that justus and rainer were leading anyway. he spent most of his days inside the home library, nose buried in a book. he took interest in his parents' work, asking questions and trying to get his hands on materials to learn more about it. he liked his alone time, and rarely found himself venturing out of the house. besides, it wasn't like his siblings were all mean and bullies. they mostly left him alone to mind his own business(minus his twin keiron, with whom he had a tumultuous relationship and would fight constantly, and his younger brother averil who was practically keiron's mini-me), and asten in particular was nice to him and took care of him. when ottilie came along, she too had more sympathy and gentleness for him than the boys did, and hugo had always been young enough to be favored by everyone including piper which formed a bond between the two.

    when piper got to school, he was excited. not only was he stoked to be at one of the most elite magical institutions in the world, but he was excited to learn. having had no formal education as a small child outside of what the nannies would teach and what he could get the older boys to tell him, he mostly taught himself from books and the occasional story from a parent. he didn't quite fit in a durmstrang, but that was quite alright, since he could take as many classes as he wanted and spend as much time in their much more extensive library as he wished. around his third year, his world was rocked.

    he had always believed himself to be a pureblood wizard. not that it particularly mattered to him, but it was something that was important to durmstrang and something that his family wore like a badge of honor. his mother's affair broke national headlines. she had been caught having relations with a coworker, and the legitimacy of her children with friedrich had been called into question. friedrich was furious, and required a paternity test on all of the children. justus, keiron, piper, and averil were not his biological children. once again, sylvie made headlines when she revealed that piper and keiron were the sons of a muggle man, making them true half-bloods. justus's father was a half-blood coworker who had left the ministry not long after his birth. averil, sylvie never knew for sure who his father was. chaos ensued, both in the katzenbach family and in the german wizarding community's political world. at home, friedrich and sylvie got into colossal fights that would result in all of the kids still at the house staying in the cramped, tiny home of justus and his boyfriend, for days at a time. eventually, sylvie and friedrich agreed to work on their marriage. though, his relationship with the boys who were not biologically his became very distant and strained. sylvie began sending piper and keiron to their father's for a month out of the summer to get to know him and "bond". at school, piper lost the few friends he had over the scandal, but thankfully fell in with the winter twins, who he always felt at-ease with, so he wasn't totally alone. around the same time, his gifts began to manifest. he began having vividly intense dreams that seemed to come true around every corner, leaving him with the nastiest deja vu of his life. it was mostly just strange, to him. he kept it to himself because he didn't quite know how to handle it.

    however, the punches didn't stop rolling in. the following year, while the katzenbachs were on a "family" camping trip, a few of the older boys left the campground to go hiking. they had gotten caught by a pack of werewolves, transformed for the full moon. rainer didn't make it, and chip had been infected with the lycantropy. the loss of a brother and a son had upended the katzenbachs' world once more. chip left durmstrang to live in seclusion and be taught privately without the worry of his affliction harming other young wizards, and he is a rare sight at family gatherings, tired and ragged. piper, although not the closest to rainer, threw himself into his schooling upon the loss of his brother, and spent more time away from the family home than usual. he developed a fear of werewolves and became more fearful than usual that he would lose another sibling. the worst part? he had seen it before it happened. for a week leading up to the camping trip, he had been having vivid nightmares of the attack and his gut told him something horrific would happen. he had dreams of a funeral, of a mangled body, but when he confided in justus of his fears, it was waved off as eating too close to bed. he hasn't forgiven himself.

    he finally turned to his mother about his gifts, where it was revealed to him that supposedly his great-great grandmother was a seer, though the family generally hadn't believed her. with piper's sudden ability to dream the future, it became clear that sabine was not a liar and her gifts were now infiltrating the new bloodline.

    last year, he and clara began dating after clara had been a rock for him in some of the toughest times of his life. they broke it off not long before summer break, as the duo could not stop fighting. they're still friends, and they still fight, though he doesn't quite understand how or why they bicker so much. during their time together, his gifts began to manifest more greatly than before, his visions now happening while awake, though he has not foretold a prophecy yet. he's kept his abilities to himself all this time, minus an obligatory notice to durmstrang's headmaster.

    despite his struggles socially, he has been selected to represent durmstrang as the top student in his class. his extensive knowledge on magical theory and history was thought to be enough to give his school an edge in competition.

Appearance: Sigurd is a Caucasian male with very lightly tanned skin and jet black hair. He keeps his hair buzzed down and short, taking the time to cut it back down once every two weeks. The same goes for his facial hair, the Durmstrang champion preferring to be clean-shaven. Sigurd has the body of someone who spends extended periods of time performing physical activities outside. Beside the aforementioned slight tan, Sigurd has noticably developed muscles on his arms and legs from exploring the mountains both at home and around his school's campus. Facially, Sigurd is anything but a looker. His face is chock full of inadequacies that give him a homely appearance. His ears are tilted at an angle that look like the fins of a fish. His hairline dips down a little, creating the smallest impression of a widow's peak. His eyes are a murky brown color and beady in shape. His nose is broad, with the tip pointing up ever so slightly at the end. His lips are pink and full, but he wishes they were smaller.
Wardrobe: The farthest thing from flashy, Sigurd has a limited wardrobe. He is most often seen wearing the uniform of Durmstrang, which consists of a dark red tunic with a black belt and a strap that runs from his left shoulder to his right armpit. On his lower body, he wears a pair of dark brown trousers and black boots. Sigurd forgoes the red coat that hangs over the shoulder that is commonplace for other Durmstrang students. Over his uniform, Sigurd wears a dark green coat with cream-colored fur running along the outside. As for casual wear, Sigurd keeps things very simple. If he is in a warmer environment and has some downtime, he can be found wearing an olive-colored t-shirt in lieu of his bulkier tunic. The inside of the fur coat has multiple pockets for storing small objects, such as Sigurd's pet rat.

Scent: Sigurd smells most distinctly of spearmint and logs, the former coming from the deodorant he uses. The latter perhaps originates from his frequent excursions in the wilderness.

Personality: Sigurd's personality encompasses that of a soldier, through and through. Ragnar Berg took the mental and emotional training he received as an Auror and imparted it to his son in an attempt to build him up as someone wise beyond his years. Sigurd is calm and refuses to let anything daunt him. All the training and experiences he has endured thus far grants him the confidence to never falter. Even when circumstances are not in his favor, he keeps a straight face and hunkers down. Sigurd does so because a desire hidden with him is to be someone people can lean on for support. He is also diligent, heavily focusing on the task at hand. To Sigurd, solving a problem isn't a matter of if, but when. When it comes to working with others, he is respectful and tolerant. Arguing is something he heavily dislikes, but if he must convey his point, he will try his best to do so calmly. On the negative side, Sigurd can come across as cold and unfeeling, acting at times without thinking of others. At times, he thinks of himself as the only voice of reason whose job is to save others from themselves. He'll hear out his colleagues, but still go with his instincts if he feels that his decision will lead to the best outcome. Backstory: House Berg is a name with some weight in the wizarding world of Northern Europe, whenever mentioned at social gatherings. They lack wealth or political status, but make up for it in their focus on martial aspects. From a very young age, dedication and service to the community is instilled into Berg boys and girls. In the words of Sigurd's ancestor Bjorn Berg, To truly live, on must raise arms to defend what is dearest to them. Bergs took up jobs that emphasized physical activity and combat, such as guards, members of the Magical Law Enforcement Patrol, or even the Department of Magical Creature Regulation. Some had even shown enough aptitude to become Hit Wizards and Witches. And the Bergs flourished in these endeavors, thanks to the reliable and rigorous upbringing provided by the Durmstrang Institute. Despite the controversy surrounding the practice, the Institute is the only Wizarding School to teach and outright encourage the use of the Dark Arts. Their extensive use of dark magic gave those of the house Berg an additional edge in combating the Dark Wizards and Witches who wished to upend the relative peace that modern society had created. From that advantageous foundation, each and every Berg is given the tools to either build up or destroy themselves. House Berg's history is lined with stories of great clansmen using their abilities to help others and protect what is dear to them. Conversely, there are as many stories of Bergs turning into cruel monsters, the dark magic they relied on to dispense justice and protect others ultimately corrupting them.

It was the Berg's reputation for Dark Arts affinity, along with his academic achievements, that gave Ragnar Berg his foot in the door to fulfilling his dream of becoming an Auror. Ragnar had done well in school, meeting the requirements to be considered as a training candidate. This was thanks in part to his friend and soon to be lover Ella Knut. The two had met and bonded during their 7th year at Durmstrang, the bookish Ella smitten with Ragnar's ambitiousness. The lovebirds became study buddies. Upon being accepted for training, Ragnar was told he would be required to relocate to Germany. The news was hard on the couple, as Ella had been accepted into a mentorship program with the Astronomy Professor at Durmstrang. Boldly declaring that he would marry her upon his return, Ragnar and Ella went their separate ways. Their love survived via love letters in the mail and the occasional short visit. There was no doubt in Ragnar's mind that he would eventually feel right at home with his Auror training. There was an emphasis on magical combat, which was his entire clan's specialty. Ragnar's prowess earned him a spot as an Auror. Elated, he returned home a triumphant man. And true to his word, Ragnar promptly married his Ella as soon as he had concluded his training.

Because of his deeper knowledge and understanding of the Dark Arts, the German branch of Auror stationed Ragnar back home. And after 4 years of working as an Auror, Ragnar and Ella decided to try and have a baby. A few months later, Freydis was born. She was a blonde and blue-haired bouncing bundle of joy whose fair hair took after her mother. At this point in Ragnar's career, he was taking on more and more complicated cases. A coven of dark wizards and witches were intent on using their powers to perform necromancy and revive powerful wizards to help conquer the world. And this particular brood of criminals were sloppy, leaving a trail of bodies behind them. Unable to find a solid lead, all Ragnar could do was show up at the aftermath of rituals and fights. There was pressure from the higher ups to wrap up the case soon, before the death count reached too high and created a panic. So when Ragnar received a cryptic message offering a lead, he didn't hesitate to meet them and hear them out. Allegedly, an old classmate of Ragnar's was in deep with the coven, having been 'out of town' during key moments of the case. Ragnar then made the life-changing decision to take matters into his own hands. Abducting his suspect, Ragnar decided that the fastest way to extract information was torture. And he did so with the use of the Cruciatus Curse, his desire to inflict pain and suffering contributing to its effectiveness. About two hours into his interrogation, Ragnar was interrupted by more Auror agents, who had been tipped off themselves about a kidnapping. The entire debacle was a mess, but the short story was that Ragnar had been duped. Whoever had organized the meet-up had fed him bad information, as the poor wizard who had endured such pain was the farthest thing removed from the case. He even had an alibi for his disappearances, which Ragnar had ignored in favor of cursing him until he confessed. The entire situation would be devastating to the Auror's reputation if it got out. Because of Ragnar's track record and the need for secrecy, the victim was paid off and Ragnar forcibly retired on bad terms.

As the final part of the Coven's ploy to get rid of Ragnar, rumors soon broke out of his cruelty, sullying the Berg name once more. It appeared that the pendulum had turned once again, as the wizarding community shifted from singing their praises to scorning them. The people he once swore to protect now detested him. And if circumstances were bad in the streets, they were soon going to get worse at home. Because as Freydis was about to start attending Durmstrang, an earthshattering discovery was made; the pure-blooded couple of Ragnar and Ella Berg had given birth to a Squib. There wasn't a single ounce of magic in their daughter, as had been discovered by a representative of the school. A paternity test was hastily conducted, but it only confirmed that she was indeed a magicless Berg. A tarnish on the family name, and the second created by Ragnar Berg. To save the clan any more shame, Ragnar and Ella were forced to send their daughter away to a muggle boarding school. All of these ordeals left Ragnar and Ella exhausted and broken, but they refused to let what had happened break them. How could they, with a second child on the way? When Ragnar held his first male child in his hands, there was a fire in his eyes. One that hadn't been there since he had lost his dream job. He named his son Sigurd, meaning 'guardian of victory'.

Ragnar saw in Sigurd a way to redeem himself in the eyes of everyone around him. If he couldn't return to the ranks of the Auror and bring honor back to the Berg name, he would have a child who would do it in his place. From the day Sigurd, to his father's relief, was performing accidental magic, Ragnar was right there beside his son on his magic journey. He lived vicariously through the boy. Ragnar opted for homeschooling in lieu of Durmstrang, citing the harassment Sigurd might receive for his family name. It was also an excuse to be close to his son, allowing him to get a head start on the subjects required to be eligible for Auror training. Any time not spent in the classroom was spent outside, exploring the forests and mountains of Scandinavia with his father. However, at Ella's insistence, Sigurd transferred to Durmstrang when he was fifteen. She could clearly see that her son longed to socialize with others his age. Unfortunately, Sigurd was harassed because of his surname and his father's sins. Despite the stigma of being a Berg and starting at such a late age, Sigurd kept his head down and focused on his work. Ragnar drilled into Sigurd's head that he was the clan's last hope for redemption and that couldn't let either his father or House Berg down. After two years of Durmstrang, Sigurd was doing well in his classes, the Dark Arts in particular, thanks to his father's tutelage at a young age. When news of the Octowizard tournament reached Durmstrang, Ragnar sprung at the chance to enter his son in. This was the moment he had been waiting almost two decades for, the chance to let honor and prestige flow through the Berg once more. Sigurd was commanded by his father to throw his hat in the ring and the younger Berg had no choice but to obey his father's will. To the everyone's surprise, Sigurd's name was selected to represent the school. Not many were happy with the idea of someone with such a controversial surname and reputation representing the world-renowned Durmstrang Institute, but Sigurd tries his best to not let it affect him. Despite the lackluster show of support, he'll win the tournament and restore dignity to his clan's name. And while outside the seemingly all-powerful grasp of his father, learn a thing or two about himself.

Appearance:
The first thing you will notice about Darweshi is his impressive tuft of facial hair. He has a goatee that would put an actual goat to shame. The umber formation starts from the corners of his mouth and extends down to just under his collarbone. He also has a bushy soul patch that grows downwards and connects to the rest of the goatee. While his lower face is decorated with hair, Darweshi rocks a bald head devoid of hair. Some ask him why he hasn't simply brewed a Manegro potion and added youth to his appearance, and his usual rebuttal is that 'it's only fair the young ones get a fair shot with the ladies'. His cheekbones are high, enhancing his usually wide smile that exposes his teeth. Darweshi's eyes tilt at the edges ever so slightly and also join in on the fun when his mouth smiles. In other areas, Darweshi has caramel colored skin, stands at an above average 6'0 in height and weighs a bulky 201 lbs. Before he settled down into his role as Potions professor, Darweshi journeyed around Africa on foot. However, gone are those days and the lean build he had to go with it. He now has what can be best described as a 'dad bod'. A little muscles on his arms are all that stand as a testament to those lighter days. The bodily feature Darweshi is least proud of is his belly, a common source of teasing from his family. It doesn't help that the man loves to cook and just as much to eat.
Wardrobe: Darweshi likes to dress in light clothing when not on duty. His color choices usually follow that of the nomadic tribe he came from, usually sporting bright red or black and blue cloth. Darweshi likes to wear kanzus, light colored robes that come down to the ankles. They look very similar to tunics, which also happens to be the english word for kanzu. Pants made of simple cloth stitched together and sandals usually adorn his lower body. If in a colder setting, besides chugging down a potion that'll warm him up, he has a fur coat available. And in lieu of the sandals, black boots will go on his feet.

Scent: Darweshi has an ever present scent of blood on him. This comes from his favorite drink to consume, cattle milk mixed with their own blood. He does attempt to mitigate the odor by using deodorant, but all this accomplishes is add a crisp bit of pine into the combination.

Body Modifications: Darweshi is missing his left canine tooth. It was knocked out in his last year at Uagadou after a lab partner in Potions miscalculated the portioning of an ingredient for a potion. The cauldron's explosion knocked his across the room and dislodged the tooth. Additionally, although not a permanent modification, Darweshi does enjoy applying face paint on a whim. If approached by faculty, he will quickly cite 'religious reasons' for his abnormal appearances. More likely than not, he simply enjoys painting his face.

Hometown: Darweshi and his family were part of a nomadic tribe that roamed about, so an exact origin of birth is hard to pinpoint. The best than can be said is somewhere in Eastern Kenya.

Backstory:
Darweshi Karama Nyache's birth are murky, but he can faintly recall being born outside at night, the first things he saw being the dark Kenyan sky speckled with stars. His parents were Aziz and Salma, members of the Maasai tribe, a Kenyan nomadic group that moved from place to place, never staying in one area for too long. Aziz was the tribe's medicine man, as was his father before him and so on. Years of tribal teachings were passed down from Nyache to Nyache, with Darweshi inevitably becoming the next in line to care for his tribe's physical wellbeing. The first few years of Darweshi's life were typical of a tribal child. Playing with the other children under the watchful eyes of an adult, his father occasionally trying to show a little of his life to his son. Unfortunately, there must be dusk before the dawn, and Darweshis' early years were his dusk. At the age of nine, Darweshi's father contracted an illness no amount of herbs or prayer could help. And the young boy had to watch his father slowly weaken and weaken until he passed on to be with Engai. The tribe mourned his loss greatly, but thankfully had Aziz's brother, Avon, to take his place. The second born, while recieving the same medicine training as the first, would always be in his elder sibling's shadow. Unless the first born died without a suitable heir to take up the role of healer. Avon was more than happy to take up the role of healer, thinking little of his brother's widow. With Aziz's passing, Salma's social standing plummeted. Which made the upcoming conflict even more of a losing battle.

By the age of eleven, strange happenings were occurring around Darweshi. Things would mysterious float around him, or a small fire would spark in close proximity to him. When others in the tribe eventually began taking notice of this, they were quick to gang up on Darweshi and his mother. Avon refused to stick his head out for his sister-in-law, caring only for his own safety in the matter. To make matters worse, the lands were going through a dry season, which made the tribe's elders blame Darweshi. They saw the situation as Engai testing them. The only way to protect themselves and the village would be to exile the boy, expelling the evil from amongst themselves. One night, while asleep in the worried arms of his mother, Darweshi received a message in a dream. It was a dream full of bright, colorful lights and an unknown figure telling him that had great power inside of him. He was amazed when he woke up, certain that the figure had to be Engai. When he tried to tell his mother, she was horrified and made him promise he would tell nobody. Especially since her son had someone obtained a rock with strange words etched into it. That morning, Salma took her son to a nearby stream to get rid of the stone. What she didn't expect was to be met by a man in strange-looking robes no other tribe the Maasai had encountered wore. He introduced himself as a wizard, and explained that Darweshi was able to perform great miracles like himself. The wizard had come to take him away to a school where he would be with others like him. Salma was torn, at first refusing to give away the only remind she had of her husband. On the other hand, she knew that this was the only way to protect her beloved son. So with a heavy heart, she bid farewell to her son, instructing him to go with the man. Darweshi was equally as heartbroken, but obeyed his mother.

The wizard and Darweshi travelled with a handful of other wards he had gathered from other situations like Darweshi's. Those whose friends and families had turned against them when they saw what they were capable of. Uagadou was unlike anything Darweshi had seen before, a castle high up in the mountains surrounded by clouds. Within those walls, however, Darweshi struggled. Uagadou is the wizarding world's largest school, in a continent filled to the brim with differing cultures. But he soon found his footing at the school and took a deep liking to the art of potion-making. He loved the bubbling of the cauldron and the effects the potions produced. Sadly, the young wizard was put in a class with the worst professor possible. Professor Jengo was a young, mean-spirited and dispassionate man who cared little for his job. He cared only for the security and prestige the job produced. Little thought was put into lesson plans or the intellectual future for his students. Darweshi despised the man, vowing to himself that if he was ever in a position of authority to teach Potions, he would put his all into his job, working 300% harder than this clod.

Eventually, Darweshi graduated from Uagadou with the rest of his class. Now, they were innumerable avenues and careers they could proceed through their lives with. Darweshi already knew what he wanted to do as soon as he had finished his first year's Potions class with Professor Jengo. But first, he was going to need a lot more experience with magic. So he decided to return to his roots and become a nomad once more. With a map in hand, he began a mission of self-improvement, seeking out Africa's greatest potioneers and indenturing himself to them. In exchange for his servitude to them, he had the opportunity to learn as well. And the determined Maasai male absorbed everything he could. Near the end of his travels, Darweshi met a woman name Anima, who happened to be the daughter of the Potion Master he had chosed to study under next. The two were deeply in love, and it wasn't long before Darweshi wanted to take her hand in marriage. Anima's father scoffed at the idea of the two getting married, but Darweshi challenged him to a potion brewing contest for the hand of his daughter. Trying like had never tried before, Darweshi managed to succeed and won the hand of his fair lady. Soon, 10 years passed since his journey started, and Darweshi found himself back where he started, Uagadou. With a wife and a child on the way, he needed to settle down and end his nomadic ways. So he applied as a Potions teaching assistant. His superior? Professor Jengo himself. The reunion was unwelcome by both parties, but he needed the job. Professor Jengo loved the power he had over his former student once more, and he made Darweshi miserable because of it.

One day, for seemingly no reason at all, Professor Jengo ran into the Headmaster's office, belongings packed up, and announced his resignation, effective immediately. Before the Headmaster could even ask what had happened, Jengo was gone, never to be seen again. Because it was the middle of the school year and out of sheer conveinence, Darweshi was promoted to the job he had desired the most, Potion Master. But equally as important, Jengo's job. As Uagadou's professor of potions, Darweshi breathes new life into the subject, quickly becoming among the students' favorite professor for his charm and methods of getting his point across. And now with the Octowizard Tournament rearing its head, Darweshi aims to help his school's champion bring home the trophy, and have some fun along the way.

Personality: Every year we survive we grow and form new layers of ourselves. If one were to believe this then it would make quite a bit of sense as to just how layered and complex a woman like Azura is. She is a strong presence in any room she walks into, her confidence and elegance as effortless as breathing and her well-earned pride often making her seem larger than life. She has a fire within her that makes her feisty and scrappy but also makes her a fierce defender of those she wishes to protect and a terrible enemy to those she wishes to destroy. She has a passion to her that is bright and has in the past been described as infectious, especially by her late husband who often informed her that while she may be brilliant it was her heart that made him fall in love with her. She has learned over her life though that her heart and her mind will not always agree and she must learn to calculate the risks and rewards of listening to one over the other. She knew that her research and discoveries would paint a target on her back but felt that the pursuit of knowledge in the hopes that it could one day be used to help others was worth the risk. Too late though did she realize her discoveries could fall into the wrong hands thus she destroyed all evidence of her work, making herself the only being alive capable of recreating it.

Backstory:
“The fires of your ambitions shall consume you. The flames of your love will lead you into darkness. The world will know your name and you shall suffer for it. My daughter your courting of death will leave you forever chasing his mercy.”

For as long as Azura can remember these words have followed her through life. Her mother, the seer Elena Costa, spoke them to her as one might tell a child a story before bed. Every night as young Azura lay her head down for sleep her mother would stand beside her, reeking of liquor, and run her hand over her daughter's cheek, repeating the words of the fate she had seen awaiting her child. It was engrained within her before she was even old enough to begin deciphering their meaning but she could tell by the look of sorrow, abhorrence, and fear that her mother did not see this prophecy as a blessing.

Elena was seldom sober and was seldom happy during her daughter's childhood. Her powers as a seer led her to witness far more than her mind could handle and thus in her attempts to drown them out she fell into the bottle. Young Azura for her part did her best to care for her mother, to clean her up, get her to bed, and keep visitors seeking knowledge of their futures from disturbing her mother's rest. She tolerated the rage-filled fits her mother would fall into, dodge thrown pillows or glasses, and clean the sweat from Elena’s brow during the worst of her fits once she fell unconscious. It was a life in which Azura had to grow up fast and grow up smart, adaptable, and clever enough to read the signs of her mother's mood so she could be prepared for what lay ahead. As a child, she would simply try to survive, but once she was old enough she began to fight back, the fire sparking to life within her as she realized she could and should defend herself. She would stand her ground when she had to but for Aurza that wasn’t enough. It wouldn’t cut it for her to just survive, she needed to find a way of bettering herself, her situation, and hopefully her mother. As she began school at Beauxbatons she fell into a passionate love affair with potions and alchemy. Between quidditch, classes, and study time Azura could often be found in the potions lab experimenting with creating her own concoctions, cures, and antidotes. Before she graduated she had become a name recognized not only by her fellow classmates and teachers but by peers across the globe for multiple breakthroughs she accomplished. One of which was a potion that allowed her mother relief from her visions, control, and a chance to see clearly. Another was designed to help her mother be cured of her addictions and heal the damage already done to her body. When presented with these gifts that Azura had poured so much of herself into her mother did not accept them. Instead, she pulled forth her wand and attempted to end Azura where she stood. Due to Elena’s hysterical and drunken state at the time Azura was able to disarm her mother and save her own life but when restraining her mother the woman continued to shriek about how she needed to spare her daughter the fate before her, how Azura was feeding right into destinies hand and Elena could save her from all of the pain she would face. Later that evening once Elena was calmed and in the care of a local healer Azura returned to her work and deeply considered destroying it for good. After many hours sitting before her research, the young woman put her wand away and swore to herself that she would not let this prophecy control her. She had a passion that could be used to better the world, a gift for potions and alchemy that could change the wizarding world and hopefully help others despite her mother's crazed words. Two days later Azura received news that her mother had fallen into a hysterical fit repeating her prophecy over and over and over before taking her own life.

Azura was alone after that, no family left to speak of and once she graduated school she and all of her friends went their separate ways to pursue their futures. She of course found colleagues in her field who she befriended, lovers who entertained her when she wasn’t focused on her work, even a few rivals who made life interesting. She didn’t realize how many eyes had fallen onto her work until one evening on her way home she was attacked and dragged into a dark alley where her attackers attempted to drag her towards a portkey they had stored there. Fighting like a wild cat she may have been disarmed of her wand but she still knew how to throw a solid right hook and how to drive her head back to break a mans nose. Before being forced all the way to the portkey by these thugs another figure appeared and tore through the men in a flurry of blood and spells. This was the night she met Akihito, the vampire auror who annoyed her to no end and who claimed her heart for centuries to come. The fire between Akihito and Azura was ignited upon their first meeting as this bold and brutal man of shadows forced his way into her life. He had been assigned all the way from Japan by the international Aurors guild to protect Azura when reports began to show her work was catching the interest of dark wizards around the globe. Azura, independent as ever, was clearly under the impression that she could handle herself and didn’t need a guard dog stalking her. Over time as their encounters went from sass and feist, to friendship and jokes, to something more it became clear that the threats against Azura were only growing along with the love between Akihito and her. After the two married though it became clear to her that the greatest threat the two of them faced was time which Akihito had in abundance whereas she did not.

This is what led Azura to create the thing that would put her name in the history books, make her known throughout the world, and forever paint a target upon her back. She recreated the legendary sorcerer stone. After countless nights filled with fights, discussions, and everything in between it was decided that Akihito would not damn her the way he himself had been damned but neither of them wanted their time together to be cut short by the cruel knife of time and the short life span of mortals. Azura dove into her work and created the stone so that she could extend her life and drastically slow her own aging, giving herself and Akihito the answer to their situation. When word spread that the Italian witch who had fallen for the vampire auror had managed to create the stone government officials and crime lords alike doubled down on their pursuit of the woman with the mind behind it all.

For years upon years, decades upon decades, she and Akihito evaded those who pursued them. As old threats died off new ones would rear their heads and cause the couple to keep a constant eye out for trouble as they went about their lives. The thrill of it could be quite addictive sometimes and neither of them truly felt the need to hide in the shadows, figuring that remaining in the light, figuratively of course due to Akihito’s vampirism, would be far more beneficial in the long run. It would be harder to truly disappear without a trace so long as the public was aware that they were in fact real and not myth or legend. Azura continued her research and made great advancements all of which only garnered more dangers as what she created for good was too easily able to also be used for evil. So many of her creations were made only to be destroyed once she understood how they could be twisted, the only person able to recreate them being herself as the secrets behind them were known only to her.

In order to truly cement themselves and gain some form of sanctuary Akihito and Azura took up teaching positions at Mahoutokoro, the wizarding institution Akihito attended centuries ago in his youth. Azura became the school's potions master and Akihito became the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. For decades the two of them found joy in teaching and in each other, Mahoutokoro becoming a home for them as they spent most of their years there educating the different generations. With the school plus her husband watching over her the attempts on Azura became less and less until one day when a young crime lord by the name of Klaus Morvo entered their world and began to burn it to the ground. Klaus and his followers organized an attack the week before school was to begin about 37 years ago. They managed to separate Azura and Akihito, kidnapping Azura for two weeks of true hell. In that time Klaus was determined to break Azura down to nothing so she would share her secrets with him and bend to his will. He used everything from unforgivable curses, to knives, to fire, to his own hands to try and force her to comply but somehow through it all she never truly allowed herself to break. Klaus offered her an end to the pain, he offered her a seat at his side, he offered her the world if she would just share her creations including the stone's power with him. Every time he came to her she would hold firm, she would scream, cry, and gasp for air but she would not beg and she would not break because she knew someone like Klaus should never be allowed the power she could give him.

Finally, after two weeks Akihito and several of his closest Aurors and even some vampiric allies managed to track Klaus down and rescue Azura though they failed to apprehend or eliminate Klaus. It took a long time for Azura to truly begin to heal once she was rescued, she had endured so much in those two weeks that decades later she remembers it as though it were yesterday. For the longest time she would fight sleep, took no interest in food, would jump at unexpected touches and sounds, couldn’t stand to have a flame near her, and so much more. Her recovery process was long and hard but Akihito was with her every step of the way, holding her through the night terrors, helping her learn to stomach the smell of bacon which was all too similar to burning flesh, finding beauty in her scars, and reminding her of the beauty within a flame. He helped her to find parts of herself she locked away to keep safe from Klaus and together they returned to their life and Azura returned not exactly to the person she was but to someone evolved, harder in some ways but still with that beautiful fire in her soul that Akihito loved so much.

37 years passed and the two never forgot about Klaus and the threat he posed, they did their best to work with aurors and governments alike to help track him down but all attempts seemed to fail. For the past several years there had been no news, no updates, no red flags regarding the brutal sadist and his followers. Akihito tried to suggest Klaus might have died or finally been killed but Azura wouldn’t believe such a thing until she had proof. It turned out her suspicions were well founded as several months ago Klaus attacked again. The young man from Azura’s nightmares now older and clearly more desperate than ever to obtain longevity. His attempt to make off with Azura failed but not without great cost. During the battle, Klaus managed to strike Akihito with the killing curse as the man was finishing off one of Klaus’s followers who was after Azura while she held her own against several other of Klaus’s men. As she raced towards Akihito Kalus was forced to retreat when reinforcements in the form of several other professors arrived. Azura has never been the same since that day and clearly feels the heavy weight of her loss even months later. Akihito was her world for lifetime after lifetime, through more years than they had any right to, and now Azura wants nothing more than to follow him in death. Her problem, however, is that in order to do so she will need to find a way to reverse the effects of the stone so she can restore her mortality and die as well. This is proving to be quite the challenge and in the back of her mind, Azura hears the words Elena told her time and time again when she was a child, the prophecy her mother tried to save her from, the fate she could not avoid.

Bronze lingers at the edges of his robe, as if the silver had some rust on it. However, there are streaks of red on his robe's sleeves and the back that give the impression that the metallic color was peeled away to reveal a crimson layer underneath. The additional colors have befuddled every person of authority at Mahoutokoro.
Wand: Altair's wand is 11 inch long, made of Black Walnut and has a Coral core. Wands made with Black Walnut works best with users who are truthful and honest with themselves, two things Altair has not been.
Pet: Altair does not have a pet. In fact, he is not much of a fan of animals unless they have been killed, cooked and served on a plate in front of him.

Quidditch: For reasons to be revealed, Altair does not play Quidditch. Although he does enjoy watching it.
Preferred Classes: Altair's favorite class by far is Flying. Despite being optional after his first year at Mahoutokoro, Altair continued to take it out of pure passion for the activity. Mahoutokoro's Flying curriculum for students in their later years is much more intensive than any other wizarding school. It's the perfect place for an adrenaline junkie to get their fix. Coming in second place is Astronomy. His name's connection to the stars encouraged him to focus on the subject. And it's always a beautiful sight to look on at the stars on a cloudless night. As an added plus, the night class gave him more free time during the day.
Appearance: Altair has a balloon shaped head that starts with the pointed base that is his chin and ends with a nice and perfect curve at the top of his forehead. Wispy tendrils of hair the color of black coffee goes down the back of his neck and drape over his forehead. His brown eyes are protected by two of the bushiest black eyebrows you'll ever see. It's as if a permanent marker was used on his face. The eyes, like the rest of his face, are very expressive. One could detect his mood from studying them alone. Altair has a wide, beautiful smile full of white teeth and small dimples on his cheeks. To his dismay, the young man has yet to grow facial hair at 17 years of age. One of his goals this school year is to grow something, anything. Even some peach fuzz would be welcome. Until then, his features are open for all to see, including his thin caramel colored lips. Altair's body is skinny with little muscle definition. With cardio as his most prominent form of exercise, he has a runner's body.
Wardrobe: Altair's wardrobe takes notes from both his Yemeni upbringing and his time as a student in Japan. Besides his aforementioned school uniform, Altair enjoys wearing clothing and accessories that catch the eye. Arabic robes typical of his culture aren't expressive enough for him, but he does wear sandals often. He wears a lot of bright colors, orange in particular. The articles of clothing in his possession range from t-shirts with funny phrases on them to sweaters woven with multi-colored wool. Lower body wear can either be sweatpants or jeans. Altair's most prized article of jewelry is his golden bracelet. Only brought out for special events, it's a gauntlet that starts at his wrist and goes half-way up his forearm. Perched on top of the yellow band is a golden eagle. Whenever Altair out and about flying, a pair of goggles adorn his face.

The Al-Mahrah region of Yemen was not the best place to live, much less if you were a wizard or witch. The south-eastern locale was a barren desert wasteland. To make matters worse, a lack of resources created conflict between warring covens of wizards and witches. In an effort to gain the necessary power to end the conflict once and for all, one particular coven pooled the supplies they had in a dangerous gambit. Legends from a faraway land told of a charm that could enchant an object to produce an endless stream of good luck. To perform this ritual, the Felix Felicis potion was required. Multiple, in fact. With the potion's array of ingredients and 6 month brewing period, it took quite some time, but eventually, the preparations were made. If the ritual went awry, it would spell the inevitable doom of the coven, as a poorly brewed potion would produce a maelstrom of bad luck the struggling group couldn't afford to handle. Miraculously, the charm was cast without a hitch, an abnormally smooth stone become imbued with enough magic to turn the tides of the conflict. Attached to a necklace and bestowed upon the clan's leader, Mothallah ibn Abdul. The fighting had lasted for years, but it only took a handful of decisive ambushes to decimate the opposition. Those who avoided death were implored to join the winning side, creating a united front that could transform the desert region into something more.

Led by Mothallah and blessed by the magic of the Hajar, or stone, a safe haven was formed, far from the prying eyes of muggles. And for a few years, the haven thrived and grew. That is, until disaster struck. While out on a walk to clear his head, Mothallah was bitten by a poisonous snake and died before he could reach his home. Although the loss was severe, all that mattered was that the Hajar was safe. Upon finding the lucky charm, Yusuf ibn Mothallah became the new leader. And once more, prosperity and good fortune befell the people of the coven. Being clan leader and in possession of a good luck charm had made Yusuf a relatively wealthy man. Wealthy enough that he could afford to send his children to a wizarding school in the hopes they would be a bigger benefit to the coven. The polygamous Yusuf's family at this point consisted of five children with his first wife and one with his second wife, Layla. At-ta'ir Ibn Yusuf was born into an already large family, with five half-siblings to share father with. Being sixth-born and the son of the second wife relegated At-ta'ir to a second class citizen status. He was left out of games with the others, and when he was included, it was either begrudgingly or part of a cruel prank. After a particularly nasty event involving a foot race and a hill, Layla confronted her husband to do something about her only son's treatment. Conveniently, At-ta'ir was about to be 11 years old, meaning he was almost eligible to begin boarding at Mahoutokoro, as all of his other siblings were already attending Uagadou and Layla wanted her child far removed from his half-siblings. And thanks to the Hajar, At-ta'ir quickly received a letter of acceptance.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck yet again like clockwork. In the days before his son's departure, Yusuf fell ill to an unknown disease, and despite both the efforts of multiple healers and the luck of the Hajar, he passed away. At this point, the people of the haven could no longer hide their concerns that started after Mothallah's death. It seems as if the lucky charm's magic had worn off. If it couldn't even protect its previous two holders, how could it protect the people of this community? Coupled with the fact that they were already well off and felt they no longer needed to rely on a magic charm, the Hajar was deemed useless and disposed of. Until Layla retrieved it and put it in the hands of her son just as he was about to leave. If there was any essence of luck held within, he would need as much of it as he could in Mahoutokoro.

One would expect that life would be hard for At-ta'ir, a young boy sent to a school full of people who looked nothing like him, having to learn a new language from the ground up just to not be left behind. But Altair, starting to go by the alternative pronunciation of his name, took to his new challenges with ease. Although by no means as potent as when his father and grandfather were in possession it, the Hajar still had some luck left to give. If he desired a certain outcome in a situation, the hands of fate would alter circumstances ever so slightly to suit him. Classes were never trivial in difficulty, but it was significantly easier for Altair to pick up new things. In particular, he excelled in his Flying class, continuing to take it and learning about the different forms of magical transportation. The boy had an affinity for the flying carpet in particular and after besting Professor Yamanaki in an aerial race, he was rewarded with one of his own. In addition to the changes he experienced in his education, Altair could feel his inhibitions weaken and his body strengthen. He became more confident and outgoing, shedding the timid and craven shell that encased his soul after he was pushed down the hill all those years ago.

Contrary to popular belief, the coven's ritual did not go off without a hitch. The Hajar had always been a cursed object, a double-edged sword that granted luck, but eventually led to the holder's demise. Because of the ritual's usage of ingredients found in the Felix Felicis potion, it shares the same downsides and issues as the consumable luck potion. Namely, both are toxic and begin to produce bad luck after extended use. And considering it took seven years for both Altair's father and grandfather to meet their demises and the boy received the charm when he was 10 years old, the clock is ticking. His luck will progressively worsen and he will eventually succumb to the poison seeping into his skin or die by lady luck's hand. Unless, he can figure this out in time and get rid of the cursed object. This is easier said than done, as the Mahoutokoro secondary is as stubborn as a mule and can't see himself without his lucky charm.

Altair has had some close calls, though. In fear of his lucky charm being discovered, he has had to lower his speed when it came to exams, resulting in good marks up until the end of the semester, where poor exam scores dropped his grades. This prompted a conversation after class with Professor Ito, who also noted the state of his school uniform. Typically, 10th year student's robes are silver at worse, not silver with streaks of the inferior red. His uniform also garned attention from his peers, who tease him about it all the time. Younger students, however, are impressed by the variety of colors Altair has, until they're told about what it means. Additionally, Altair was forced to sit on the sidelines instead of participating on the school's Quidditch team. The possibility of a surprise search of his belongings scared him into keeping away from the team. When the Octowizard Tournament was announced, Altair willed his selection into existence with every fiber of his being. But the announcement only served to show the Hajar's limitations. Just like the Felix Felicis potion, the stone would only work if there was a silver of a chance of your desired outcome happening. And with the stronger and smarter Odinson Locjaw and Chitrita Pawar attending the same school, there was no chance Altair would be selected. That is, until the first night of the tournament. After news of Odinson Locjaw's death reached the Japanese wizarding school, the headmaster scrambled a new supporting cast to assist Chitrita. The apple of Mahoutokoro's eye Chitrita needed someone to make sure what happened to Locjaw didn't happen to her as well. An individual with sharp wits, good judgement and an even better head on their shoulders was needed on this new team. That was where Professor Azura Ito came in. As for Altair's inclusion in the new team, the boy had a tendency to land on his feet time and time again. In the Headmaster's mind, perhaps some luck could rub off onto the rest of the team.
