Fandom (OC) Avatar: The 100 Year Abandonment

Also, fin fin have you watched the show? since a thrown object would need to have fire thurst out with it, and breathing fire isn't as much a firebender style.
uh yeah but its been a while. just figured it'd work. beau doesn't really need to fit fire bending fighting style since he left, but i guess id incorporate that from time to time due to his military background.

and are you all on EST timezone? thats mine

Nah i mean even the ones who have been away for decades still normally have the forms because they know how to get the most power out, Like that Grand Master I forget the name of in the White Lotus.

Andrita Andrita Spirit Bending doesnt absorb energy or powers, it just Purifies or Binds the spirit, etc. Its effectively just Avatar Exocisms and only used on actual spirits that are enraged/corrupted. Energy Bending is all 4 Elements so having that makes that person the Avatar.....which we kind of dont have

PlusUltra PlusUltra I meant to imply energybending... Not spirit bending. It's just that one of their names sounds like it'd fit for the other I confused them. And the absorbing energy from the environment / from herself part is something Zeralyn learned as an alternative of gaining energy because she doesn't have access to the spirit world to use energybending. It's more of an alternative until she eventually can tap back into the spirit world again.

Andrita Andrita So Zeralyn is the Avatar?
LibbyM098 LibbyM098 Regarding the attack, I was taking this as when Zuko first shows up at the Water Tribe. You have fire relationships far enough away to let the soldiers masquerade as earth kingdom etc....and its shown the accuracy of those things are terrible and its a large fleet that causes damage with numbers. You said before it was a small fleet so that combined with distance/accuracy issue made deflecting the occasional bomb that was actually going to hit the very small target far easier. Ila was a strong earth bender in raw power but lacking refinement, throwing back a boulder is kind of a thing so its more being smart about it.

PlusUltra PlusUltra ... No. I just wanted someone who could energybend. She nor Hami [her descendant] are very much not the Avatar... as when Zeralyn was alive the avatar cycle didn't even start yet. She is a very old spirit possessing the girl , as Zeralyn was around back when the lion turtles gave people bending ... Then was banished by the turtles due to her dark ambitions after being taught how to energybend... So yeah. Now if the idea doesn't fit unless Hami is somehow the Avatar... I'm willing to discuss that with LibbyM098 LibbyM098 ... I'm more than willing to come up with an alternative or maybe incorporating the idea , but I'm unsure considering I'm very certain that Libby has his/her own ideas for the Avatar. Plus incorporating Hami as the Avatar would be exceedingly difficult into the character... Possible, but difficult. But believe me that was never the original intention of the character.

Yeah the thing was Energy Bending was the Avatars thing for mastery of all 4 elements, hence a random person having it being off. Its what Aang used to strip bending, what Korra used to restore it as well.

The Avatar themselves was possessed by a spirit anyway, think it was called Vaatu or something, but yeah the point of the game was no Avatar hence was pointing out the slight issue with the Energy Bending. I mean being a Water Bender with Spirit bending is closest thing you could get i think at the moment, even that is pretty much high level of mastery though.

Vaatu is the Dark Avatar Ultra, Raava was the Avatars such as Wan, Korra, and co.

I considered that since this is an AU we can have some form of difference in comparison to the canon, especially considering while the Avatar does in-fact exist in the RP , according to the rumors he/she isn't around . And also energybending was originally created by the lion turtles, hence why I thought in this it's very much possible to be strictly taught the technique if you have an affinity for the spirit world/energy , in which she qualifies for via being connected to spirits almost intuitively.

Yeah got the names mixed up, Vaatu and Raava swapped around in my head.....So Intuitive connection to the spirits like the Avatar, bending taught from Lion Turtles like the Avatar, to do Energy bending like the Avatar....but not the Avatar?

PlusUltra PlusUltra
... The best way to put it:

Basically she's as spiritually intuitive as the Avatar, with nigh-mastery over most aspects of energybending [ as she was banished prior to learning everything about the technique] , but without the mastery of 4 elements. Also, the avatar only knows of taking and giving bending, not taking the energy from the environment [because that's something Zeralyn does on her own that's exclusive to her] . Hami also has a exclusive skill with energybending but she hasn't had a chance to use it.... since she's possessed by Zeralyn right now...

Avatar knows about the Environment hence being able do what she did with the Spirit trees etc, Energy bending is the Avatars peek because they are supposed to keep a balance between the spiritual and material...taking it from the environment is something the Avatar can do. So yeah adding this in to a character kinda of makes the Avatar obsolete in this setting since you have someone able to do the high end stuff there supposed to be special in being able to do. Avatar but not Avatar is all im seeing still.

Also spirits bonding to a normal person causes horrible mutations, but thats something that comes up in the Korra Comic series that is a continuation of the show, they don't actually grant powers aside from what the physical change allows.

LibbyM098 LibbyM098 Uhmm... I did say she would eventually attempt to do so after seeing their usefulness in gaining enough resources to find her way back to the Spirit World.

I mean in that case you would want the Water Tribes, given thats were the Spirit Portals are.

PlusUltra PlusUltra ... She would need backing from the Fire Nation to attempt such an invasion and use the Spirit Portals... Considering they are the most likely to be motivated to do it. Doing it... By herself... I mean yeah she's very, very strong but honestly that's a very risky move to do solo.

I mean yeah shes effectively Dark Avatar, but guess the heavy mutations from the spirit thing makes the sneaking part hard....then again i dont think fire nation wants to mess with that stuff either given issues spirits cause....and there is no real benefit for them helping. Its not like they believe they need the help of lessers right.

PlusUltra PlusUltra .... I'm just going to ask outright... Do you think she actually fits more to be the Dark Avatar ? I'm not kidding... I'm actually serious as that's the third time you've said something along the lines of Zaryan and Hami better fitting the role of being an Avatar-esque entity. I don't mind this at all because after you said something like that I had this huge excerpt explaining how I'd change the backstory to fit the role of the Dark Avatar if considered.

I mean they do seem to fit it, but then you have the entire thing about it really not fitting the current time as well as the fact the Avatar not being around is a kinda part of the story. In all honesty its like a character for another RP than this setting. But you also have the part that majority of the players do not seem to be evil so its pretty much going to be you on your own until the group comes across them and there is a conflict.

Going back to the Firenation thing before though since got side tracked, I think other fact is in the show the Masked guards tended to be ones that were there to get flung around

PlusUltra PlusUltra
Not to argue forward but that was referring to the regular Avatar... Nothing ever said the Dark Avatar couldn't be a part of it. And while I agree with your other points and am willing to let it go, I kind of want to see how the GM feels about it and see his/her current thoughts on how to proceed. If the energybending and potential Dark Avatar from him/her (as I don't know and don't want to offend the GM somehow) is a no go then back to spirit bending and healing.... Which is likely easier to accomplish in the current setting.

Also that makes sense. In the first season they sort of just sent the fodder, which never made sense. If they realized it was the Avatar they were going up against: Shouldn't they have sent Azula to deal with Aang directly at the very start before he became strong enough to effectively resist them ? If that was the case it would've made more sense, but Ozai was never really that intelligent from the get go.. I'm hoping this firelord is at least.

Personally, Water makes more sense, being connected to a elder/higher up in the tribe. The reason Azula was not scent at first was due to them not knowing the Avatar was alive and thought it was a wild goose chase for Zuko. When they confirm that its true, thats when they get more serious about it....before then there was "Nah likely a hoax, that guys not been seen in 100 years, why show up now?"

On another note, the idea i had for Ila to eventually develop more precise bending rather than just Raw power....was going to be based on how she sees bending itself and get to it unintentionally. Pretty much her stances are all-natural movements/feeling it, so being exposed to water/fire bender movments shes going to take that on board intuitively and start mixing those in to her earth bending style. That actually does link in to the Lightning redirection ability/harmony thing Iroh said when teaching Zuko, that he got it from watching Water Bending.

Random idea i had but seemed fun to use.

LibbyM098 LibbyM098 , PlusUltra PlusUltra Below is a rough draft of the concept in case of the Dark Avatar variant of the CS I had started to make after you talked about it...in-case you guys wanted to look at it and see if it could potentially be implemented. Also if the whole energy-bending / Dark Avatar stuff isn't good, what would you recommend me use instead ? Maybe a Earth-Bender ?

Name: Hami (The Evil spirit's name is Zeralyn)

Age: 16 (The evil spirit's age predates such mannerisms

Height: 5'5"

Gender: Female

Nation of Origin: Earth (Specifically Ba Sing Se) . The Evil Spirit originates from elsewhere.

Family: Hami is sort of orphaned to the extent due to the weird things she did as a baby. She did live with her Uncle [who is not an Bender and relies on the strength of his own merit] and was traveling with him until a tragedy happened and now she is alone wandering the skirts of the Earth Kingdom.... Having no one but Zeralyn to comfort her and attempt to erase her from being.

Bending Abilities: Due to being taught by Vaatu and the 4 Lion Turtles of Each Element about the art of bending, Grandmaster Zeralyn is an extraordinarily powerful bender comparable to some of the strongest that has ever walked the earth, giving the potential to master the 4 elements in their purest form. Her potential was such even Raava considered her worthy to be a Avatar for her, but due to the dark intentions within Zeralyn's heart decided to use Avatar Wan instead of her, who was her rival from childhood. Her affinity for spirits, and her ability to command energybending and wield the other elements gave her the qualifications to become the Dark Avatar, chosen by Vaatu. She was consistently capable of matching an Avatar State Wan for hours without using her own in her prime.

However, due to being banished from the Spirit World her power diminished significantly, but she is still at least borderline at the master level with all 4 of the elements, weaponizing them to degrees most benders could only dream off, if not at the master level. This is ignoring the power of the Dark Avatar State, which would temporarily give her back her full strength in spades, however her ability to wield it effectively is lacking and can only sustain it for literally moments instead of as long as the original Avatar is capable of.... Like she'll only able to do one attack at best in that state.... Due to once again the lack of access to the Spirit World.

Hami doesn't have access to learn the 4 elements, plus she's borderline afraid of her own abilities she has as the Dark Avatar. Despite this she has shown subconsciously as capable of using the 4 elements when in a fit of emotional turmoil . Hami's bending strength has been compared by Vaatu to a Prime Zaryan, although noted any bender worth their salt could beat a current Hami without any effort due to her lack in oficcal practice, and due to her fear of bending it's likely she won't be accessing it at all. Despite being possessed by both the previous Dark Avatar & Vaatu she is able to resist both Vaatu and Zeralyn's advances to completely control her body, which is impressive enough considering one was the previous Dark Avatar, the other is a spirit comparable to the Raava , so resisting both is a serious feat. She desperately wants to help, but due to the potential for evil she has within she isn't sure how to go about it.

Bio: Zeralyn was someone gifted in nearly every sense of the word. She had an intuitive connection to the spirit world and was born around the same time the lion turtles introduced themselves to at a time a non-bending world. As she grew up her desire to become a bender grew and grew, to the point she demanded the lion turtles to teach her as she became of teenager age . Seeing her utmost potential they all agreed to do so. Zeralyn trained to be the only practitioner of the art of mastering the 4 elements ,to become what they were constantly regarding as the Avatar: The protector of the balance of spirit and mortal, a skill that she was not rivaled in by anyone else of her age besides at the time Avatar Wan, who was taught by Raava while she was taught by Vaatu alongside the 4 Lion Turtles. The two every now and again, that being Wan and Zeralyn, decided to spar with one another to test their strength against the other, usually resulting in a tie with sometimes Wan winning. Eventually however, the Lion Turtles saw the dark intentions of her heart , and knew she only wanted to be a bender to one day become the one to gain the power of all spirits and rule the Spirit World, but she had grown too powerful to defeat her normally and it took Wan using the Avatar State preemptively to bring her down before she could use hers, but it wasn't an easy fight even then as the fight took hours to conclude , implying Zaryan was roughly comparable to the Avatar State even without using it herself... Meaning if she used it it's very likely she would've won.

However, what they failed to realize was that Zeralyn's spirit was still around, too strong to effectively be destroyed by the otherwise weak spirits and benders of that time. As a result of her not offically being in the Avatar State when defeated by Wan, the Dark Avatar Cycle continued regardless far into the future to Zeralyn's Descendant. Over the course of centuries she saw many civilizations grow and break, all involving the use of bending in some form or fashion. Some vessels were more tempting than others, but eventually in the most recent age she found someone worth her time and saw the same potential she once had: in Hami.. Her descendant. It was then that she decided to use her as a way of gaining revenge on the spirits who gave her pause.

Hami was always the strange one, acting as if talking to things that normal people wouldn't be capable of seeing. She also healed some person but accidentally gave them the potential to bend, which caused this unfortunate soul to lose control of it and literally burn himself due to the intensity of the fire bending she bestowed upon him. Due to this she was always seen as an outcast, and eventually was abandoned by her mother and father, and brought into the family of her Uncle. She displayed marvelous gifts of being capable of doing things that no bender has been seen capable of doing in her lifetime, and match the legend of the 4 Lion Turtles of the Elements and what they were capable of to a tee. Due to this, Hami's Uncle [Reimo] decided to go ahead and try to find these Lion Turtles to teach Hami her talent so that she could one day help people.

However, Zeralyn managed to take control of the child when she forcibly unleashed the Dark Avatar State when they left Ba Singe Se, and nearly killed her Uncle. Luckily, the Uncle escaped, leaving poor Hami all alone. Zeralyn then continuously took her over to gain more and more power, until she could eventually conquer the Spirit World and take back what was going to be hers. Hami however wasn't about to have it, and managed to resist the dark efforts of Zeralyn and Vaatu for years, trying to find an alternative of not becoming the Dark Avatar and one day returning to her Uncle.

Personality: Hami is shy, timid, soft-spoken. She is borderline mute in most social situations but tries to help out whenever possible, albeit she is unsure exactly when this will ever be the case. When bending her personality changes and becomes far more confident, arrogant, and serious, almost feeling as if she is the judge, jury, and executioner of her adversary. Despite bending being intuitive to her and natural, she doesn't like doing it due to her nature as a pacifist and thinking the more she tries to practice the more likely she will accidentally enter the Dark Avatar State and hurt others.

Zeralyn is power hungry, sadistic, and has the dominant personality one expects in a leader. She is charismatic but otheriwse unforgiving, and is willing to do whatever it takes to gain her goals... regardless of how dark themed her steps are to acheiving it. However, she's more than willing to put up a mask of deceit to fool the masses that she is a peaceful , sweet female who only desires prosperity when ruin is her clearer objective.

Weapons: Hami doesn't have a weapon, however Reimo is shown as a competent wielder of the swords.

I mean Water or Earth Bender, really not a fan of a Dark-Avatar in the RP as it really doesn't seem to make sense and goes against the No Avatar thing. If players get a choice im going for a Hard No on Dark Avatar

PlusUltra PlusUltra Earth-Bender it is then. I'm going to have fun making this profile

Name: Hami

Nation of Origin: Earth (Specifically Ba Sing Se) .

Family: Hami is sort of orphaned to the extent due to the weird things she did as a baby. Having no one but Zeralyn to comfort her and attempt to erase her from being.

Bending Abilities: She is an extremely powerful combatant of the Earth Element, however she is usually underestimated due to her slender frame in comparison to most, which is an awful assumption to make. She can easily create pillars underneath people's feet to perhaps throw them off balance, and her most notable is to form rock around herself or use rock as a "Earth Sphere" against enemy fire and other bending. Her most signature bending style is surprisingly Lavabending and the ability to weaponize lavabending against her adversary in many forms. She can summon magma from underneath in pillars to be lethal, but usually holds back significantly unless sated otherwise. She only needs a few pieces of earth to create into lava and or magma, and even use them as literal projectiles. Her strength as a Lavabender most likely is near the master level due to not only she can summon pillars of lava from underneath her, but also ride lava due to using a bedding of rock in-between as a surfing mechanism.

Personality: Hami is shy, timid, soft-spoken outside of combative scenarios . She is borderline mute in most social situations but tries to help out whenever possible, albeit she is unsure exactly when this will ever be the case. When bending her personality changes and becomes far more confident, arrogant, and serious, almost feeling as if she is the judge, jury, and executioner of her adversary. Her uncle constantly states she was always this confident when she is with the earth, but otherwise is notable. Despite bending being intuitive to her and natural, she doesn't like doing it due to her nature as a pacifist and thinking the more she tries to practice the more likely she will accidentally hurt someone due to most of her bending being of lava.

Bio: Hami and her Uncle generally are seen together practically all the time. She was sent to her Uncles due to a dispute between the family that resulted in the family being displaced, with the child ended up with the person the family trusted the most. As many years went by her Uncle saw exactly what his Niece was capable of one day as a child. This wave of magma just came and burned his enemies when he was in a rough dispute that almost resulted in his death , and turned to meet the cullprit, only to see a trembling Teen Hami in her pajamas. After this dispute they decided to leave Ba Sing Se in fear of what she is apable of, and Orien, her Uncle, has asked her never to use such powerful bending unless it is absolutely needed.

Weapons: Hami doesn't have a weapon, however Reimo is shown as a competent wielder of the swords.

Lavabending was going to be something worked towards not start with, it seems like you just took Ilas bending path and ramped it to 11, years earlier with the same self-taught approach.
