Realistic or Modern North

Fishman Lord

ULTIMATE AI GOD
Something happened. You aren't sure what, but now almost everyone's dead. You were in a quarantined camp in Canada for a while, until they decided they didn't have enough room for you. You and a couple of other people have just been dropped off with just some jackets and whatever you owned that they didn't want, and it doesn't look like they're coming back. As you look around the frosty pines and snowy mountains around you, you realize night is soon and the work won't do itself.

You really only have to do one thing.

Survive.

Mark stood in the back of the truck. Uggggh... I could've got away with stealing if I had left when I should've, but instead I wanted just that little extra. Just my luck. Suddenly, the truck stopped. "Get out!" The guards yelled. Everyone was forced out of the truck and dumped in the snow, then the truck drove away. Mark got up and looked around. They were surrounded by trees, and the landscape was covered with massive mountains. In the distance, he could also see what might be a river. Looking at the people around him, he saw a teenager, a guy and a girl both looking to be in their twenties, and an older middle-aged man. "Well, this situation isn't great. Might as well get to know you guys. Who are all of you?"

@ShonMoccles @Freddybeard @BlackPlagued @XxKaraxX You can begin posting. Just for reference, we are in the area of the Banff and Jasper national parks in Alberta, Canada.

Dakota began to feel nauseous during the long car ride, thankfully she didn't puke, but Dakota felt like she could. Dakota sat down on the floor of the truck holding her knees close together while burying her head in between them, hoping for all of this to just end.

Suddenly Dakota was being pushed out of the truck and onto the cold snow. Dakota wanted to yell at them for dumping us out here but she didn't have to energy to.

Dakota took a good look around her after the truck left, theres trees, a river in the distance, a bunch of snow, a teenage boy, a man around his 20s, another man probably around his late 20's and a middle aged man. Dakota looked over to the man in his late 20's when he asked the question. Dakota crossed her arms from the cold and answered his question, "Dakota... You?"

Terrance had heard the roaring truck as he trudged through the deep snow. He waved to signal them, relieved when he came to him but as they drove onward to a desolate plain, they threw the group out and left in haste. He scanned the lot of people, huddled and chilled, then the vast white terrain that stretched to eternity. This place seemed lifeless, and the only audible noise was the brittle whoosh of coming breezes. It brought a smothered hopelessness he'd never know while hunting.

" Terrance. Terrance Philips. But you need to tell me, what happened to you all? What did you see?" Terrance had not been in the disasters. He had only received word when his family had passed and he was painfully unaware of the immensity of this tragedy.

Dakota opened her bag and took out an extra winter coat she brought with her and quickly put it over the coat she was wearing now, "Well, Terrance, where I came from in Los Angeles, everyone was basically gone in that big city, just some scavengers you would see, breaking into run down shops, grabbing whatever they can. Its basically like something you would see on a show... It was madness... Terrible tragedy..." @BlackPlagued

Sometimes fate had a funny way of dealing with you. Sometimes she could be just as cruel as she could be kind. Finding the camp had been one of the few amazing moments in Stuart Kent’s life. When he had first saw the fence on the white horizon, Stuart had placed finding that Canadian camp just behind the birth of his second child. They had their guns pointed at him as he half-ran and half-stumbled towards them but he was not afraid. Why would they shoot? He was a lost soul in the Canadian tundra and to Stuart’s favour, they had accepted him. Stuart had found civilisation and he was elated. But as said before… fate can be just as cruel as she can be kind.

“Get out!”

The guard had yelled at him and some others they had piled into a truck. The guards had said little on the journey but it did not take a rocket scientist to figure out what was going on. The camp was full. First come first serve no doubt. At least he would not be alone this time; Stuart thought glumly as he obediently stepped out of the truck as demanded. The truck disappeared into the distance. Stuart sighed and leaned on the thick branch the guards had allowed him to keep when he had entered the camp. The idiots probably assumed it was his walking stick or something. Not too far off though; he thought begrudgingly as he dug it into the snow and pressed his weight against it.

“what happened to you all? What did you see?"

Stuart turned to face the younger man with the curly hair and as he did, he looked at the others who were with him. Had they spoken to him directly? He had not been listening. But now that he had looked at them it dawned on him. They were kids. They were younger than his daughter. Stuart opened his mouth to speak but closed it again. There was a child. He looked younger than sixteen. The monsters had thrown a child out here to die? Stuart shook his head. At last, words came to the businessman.

“S-something happened? I’ve been lost in the woods for days! I… need to get back to England,” Stuart ran his fingers through his grey hair and stared out at the white nothingness before him. “Stuart Kent. I got talked into a camping trip but my... my friend... he-er he didn't make it."

"Well, this sucks. I'm Mark. This is Caba." He pointed to his dog. "We should probably get to work. The sun will go down in a couple hours. Anyone know if there are any towns nearby, or if we're gonna have to get some shelter here? If there are no towns, we should probably head to the river. Also, does anyone have something to eat? I haven't eaten in a day and a half." He scanned the horizon, trying to see any trace of other people.

No good, not even the compass seemed to do the trick. He clicked his tongue in clear annoyance, albeit discreetly. No need to start giving signs of giving up or anything like that. No, no, he had to keep focused, optimistic. "...I can't even tell where the hell we are at the moment..." But, as expected, realism spoke louder than petty thoughts such as those. Dimitri sat down, scratching his head roughly, begging a brilliant idea out of his brain. If only they had a map or something... Civilization seemed to far away from them, as if a dream that they could only weep for on their pillows. Ahh, no good, he was starting to sound like his dad now...

Just sitting near Dimitri was enough for Stella to see that he was irritated. "Relax Dimitri. Does it really matter where we are? Where else is there to go anyway?" As usual, she was the one attempting to make the other relax. It had been rough lately and they had not seen another person in quite some time. Stella was sitting down but then laid back onto her back. They had stopped for a rest while they figured out where they were so she laid her blanket down. "Why don't we just set up camp here for the time being? But of course that's just an idea. I'm always pleased with whatever you have in mind." She closed her eyes just enjoying being still for a moment.

Christian

Christian shivered as he was bundled up in his heavy jacket. He could see his breath as he panted. He looked around the group of people and he kept quiet.

"How can we find out where we are?, I mean they drove for quite a while before dumping us out"

He hoisted his bag up onto his shoulder, trying to think of anything in his bag that would help them find out where they were but he only thought to grab medical supplies. Was it an underhanded move?, of course but they tossed him out as far as he was concerned it was a matter of survival.

"We need to find shelter for the night before we plan anything I would think"

He looked around the group for support to see if anyone agreed with the idea. He as not looking to become a leader but he was going to give ideas if he had any to give.

Lars

He woke up to the screeching halt of the vehicle and sees himself getting dragged out and was pushed to a pile of snow. He grunted quietly as he stood himself up and brushed of the snow off his coat. he looked around and sees other people. others were talking, he barely cares. All he cared is that he will soon go back to his aunt and live his normal life again. he minded his things and checked if the things inside were there and intact, worried that his cigarettes get squished from the rough drive. he felt relief. He took a stick out and lit it, he had trouble getting the lighter to hold a steady flame.

He looked around again and saw a young guy addressing that we should prepare for the night.

"So what's your plan?" he replied to the guy. He took a puff and felt the nicotine flow through his nerves. He sighs a thick cloud and looks at the crowd for other opinion.

"Well, why of all places do they drop us off here?" Terrance said handing Mark a can of peaches had in his pack, unable to let go of the matter and comply. He saw the setting of dusk and knew it would best to build a shelter and make a camp. The wolves would come out soon enough, and trekking through the daunting snow would be a hell of it's own, "I'm sure many of you have lost love ones and are unsure where the rest are but of this tragedy, what happened to civilization? Is this in fact a world wide epidemic? Is there no other refuges?"

Christian:

Christian looked first at Lars then to Terrance when he spoke. He had no clue why they did it. His best guess was overcrowding in the camp so it was basically grab the nearest and toss them out.

" Maybe it was too full?, I mean it was pretty crowded in the camp. From what I could see they just grabbed people randomly and tossed them in the truck"

Christian looked around, thinking rationally, they would need shelter and a fire built as it was freezing cold, so all this bickering was doing nobody any good.

He decided to speak up again

" Its getting colder by the minute and none of us will make it much further unless we find shelter and build some sort of a fire fast"

He flinched at his loud tone but at this point it was needed, all people were doing was complaining about why they had been dumped.

"But that's hardly an answer." Terrance muttered, though he decided to it was best to leave this question of relocation alone until something was able to be done about it, "The woods grow denser that way." He said, point opposite of the large mountains nearby, "I noticed when we were mercilessly dumped out here, but a grouping would be necessary. One to go and quickly gather what they can and the other to stay here and make this area a but more hospitable. Make a campsite."

Mark accepted the peaches and began to work at the lid with his knife. "Well, I think we should head towards the river and get shelter there. Maybe set up camp here, get our bearings, then leave tomorrow morning." He began to chew on the peaches until he noticed one of the 20-somethings had something looking suspiciously like rifles. "Hey man, are those guns? Can I have one? We should probably get hunting to keep our food supply up."

@BlackPlagued

Christian nodded, agreeing with Marks idea, Shelter fire and food, once they had that they could focus on what to do next. Standing up he volunteered to gather fire wood in the surrounding area. He had the hunting knife on him and did not plan to relinquish the weapon any time soon. He rifled through the bag for anything that could be used as kindling or to start a fire and unfortunately he had nothing, just medical supplies.

" I think we all need to take stock of what we have in regards to supplies so that we know what we have and what we need"

(gah, sorry I forgot about this)

Terrance eyed Mark warily. He wasn't sure he could trust a stranger wit his guns, even under these circumstances. Or maybe it was stinginess, he couldn't say.

"Well," Terrance began hesitantly, bringing a gun into his hands. This wasn't exactly a time to be selfish, but he had sentiment for these weapons and cared about them, "Are you familiar with this shooting this type of gun? "

He looked to Christian when he spoke and nodded in agreement.

"What'd you guys bring?" He asked the others who silently stood by," I have a few hunting tools. rope.. a couple cans of food. Not so much really." He shrugged, and tightened his coat against him. The cold was beginning to deepen.

Mark popped a peach slice in his mouth. "Well, I brought my knife here, and some thieves' tools." He decided not to mention the stolen valuables. "Oh, and can't forget my dog Caba." He patted the dog on the head. "I have not operated that kind of gun before, so it's fine if you don't want to give it to me. I was only askin' because we might want to do some hunting. Also, I heard the guards in the truck talking about bands of raiders and packs of wolves. Just wanna be careful. Anyway, we should probably start on a shelter before the sun sets."

@BlackPlagued

Dakota looks around everyone as they are talking. She hates this right now, Dakota isn't use to this cold weather, she likes the sand and the beach not the hell hole we were thrown into like scraps. Dakota crosses her arms and rolls her eyes as she can feel the coldness go through her jacket, nothing works out for me... Dakota thought.

When Dakota heard the word hunting she quickly lifted her head up and looked at the two who were hunting, "Hunting? I can help with the hunt if you guys want. I brought my bows and arrow."

@Fishman Lord @BlackPlagued

"I'm sure the dog could sense wolves and other humans before we would," Terrance said, watching the dogs casual disposition, "That will help in safety and in hunting." He turned to the girl that spoke up, Dakota, "That's perfect, but I think a shelter is in order at the moment. We need resources."

He looked about the land and saw minimal natural resources. Sparse trees and no caves.

"Are you guys open to building snow igloos?"

Christian:

Christian rifled through his bag, taking stock of what he had.

I have mostly medical supplies, and 1 hunting knife I lifted while in the camp.

He looked to the others, based on the suns position it was late afternoon. They only had a few hours before darkness. And with raiders and wild animals around they needed a secure shelter.

Lets focus on finding a shelter thats hidden enough that we can't be found, especially by Raiders

He looked to terrance and shook his head

Whatever shelter we use has to be hidden. Building in the open will just draw in trouble.

(The land is actually heavily forested, just a note)

"Maybe, unless we have a way to cut down wood. I think that we should search for fallen branches and build a fire. Here, Caba!" Mark and Caba then started collecting fallen branches and such. "Hey, anyone wanna help?"

Christian:

Christian nodded, he may not have the survival skills he could still help whenever possible.

He set off with Mark and began picking sticks and branches big enough to have a good enough fire going.

In the meantime he would keep an eye out for any form of shelter they could use even temporarily.

He bundled wood in his arms before heading back and putting it down in the original clearing.

He wandered a bit too far and came across a lodge, it looked like a ranger station...

Mark looked around, wondering where Christian had gone. "Hey, Christian! Where are you?" He kept calling and wandering until he tripped. He stood up and saw a human corpse, frozen solid. It appeared to be a ranger. Mark shuddered a little, then took everything he could, even the clothes. He found a radio, a pack of gum, a candy bar, and a whistle. He covered the rest of the body in snow as best he could, then called for Christian again, this time also blowing the whistle.
