We've all seen the classic horror movies of the group of people getting hunted by a killer. But what happens when it becomes real? When a fun getaway weekend turns into your worst nightmare? When someone you grew up with turns out to be a viscious killer?

~~~
Twelve teenage friends have know each other since childhood. And they decide to go spend the week of Winter Break up in the mountains. Hiking, bonfires, drinking. Fun.
But when a freak blizzard traps them in their cabin, they come to realize just how secluded they are. Fifty-six miles from the nearest town, surrounded by forest and mountains.
Then, their companions are found brutally murdered, with no sign of forced entry into the cabin. No footprints in the snow outside. The killer has decided to have some fun... And is hidden among them.
No one is getting any sleep until the killer is caught... or everyone is dead...
The friends all arrived in their own way. Some arrived together, some by themselves. But they all arrived at the cabin. This magical cabin. Nestled among towering evergreens, on the side of a hill, it had a beautiful view. Already, it was chill and crisp, with their breath puffing out in front of them visibly. A light dusting of snow from last night covers everything, but the snow was supposed to be gone for the next week. Perfect for their getaway.
Fairy lights are strung up around the building where they will be spending the next week. It looked like something out of a fairy tale.
Down behind the cabin is a worn path that leads to a gorgeous lake and a dock. The water is crystal clear and fresh, with small fish swimming in it. Perfet for swimming and fishing, maybe even some boating. If it wasn't winter time. The water is too cold now. It would give you hypothermia.
As the friends arrive, they see each other, each reacting in their own way. They have been friends since childhood, afterall.
This is going to be an amazing week. Drinking, campfires, partying. No parental or adult supervision. What could go wrong?
As Elentiya pulled up to the cabin in her old, worn out Ford truck, she smiled. She had been terrified that her truck wasn't going to make it up the steeo mountain roads, but here she was. Fifty something miles from the nearest town, about to spend a wonderful week with her childhood friends.
She grabbed the backpack that rested in the passenger seat beside her. Swinging it onto a shoulder, she cuts the engine to her truck and climbs out. She slams the door shut, causing the old thing to groan in protest. She smiles widely, taking a duffel bag from the bed of her truck.
Now that she has everything, Elie makes her way to the front door of the cabinl wondering when her other friends will get here. She squeals with excitement as she skips toward the door. At a height of 4' 9", Elie doesn't have to worry about low doorways or ceilings. Hell, she can barely reach the pedals in her truck and see out the windsheild at the same time. While also weighing a whopping 97 pounds, she has very little muscle. But she is fast. Very fast and agile when she isn't tripping over herself.
She wears an oversized hoodie that falls to her mid-thigh. It looks to be a guy's hoodie, but Elie isn't dating anyone, so she must've gone shopping in the Male section. On her legs, to combat the chill, she wears a pair of jeans so worn and faded, they are barely held together. On her feet are a pair of boots.
Overall, she is the "child" of the group per say. She never really listens, and is completely oblivious to her surroundings, as she is now, walking to the cabin. She doesn't watch for bears or other people. She remains in her own little happy world, walking with a spring in her every step that causes her short hair to bounce.
George Carlton
The Jock | Location: Outside the cabin | Interactions: TayMaiTer TayMaiTer
'It is like there's a little tiny forest, glistening emerald green right at your fingertips' blared George's headphones as he was absorbed in listening to the various podcasts he had downloaded the night before for the journey here. It was a nice distraction, and currently it was some wildlife documentary running through the queue, and honestly, he just hoped he'd be able to have some intellectual conversations (the sort he'd never really participate in with the others in his team who'd just talk about which girl they'd rather "do") rather than just hammering out bad puns and finger guns to communicate with his friends. What he just realised however was that listening to various podcasts had all but drained his phone battery so he was hoping to get a quick recharge.
He was dressed in warm clothes, his usual outfits neatly folded in his rather large bag, wearing a simple but thick jumper and scarf. He had finally arrived - he had parked his car a few miles away so that he could stretch his legs a little on the way to the cabin so he slung his headphones on his neck and over the scarf and heard a familiar squee. George grinned, the only person who had the pure glee to actually let out a squeal of excitement was quite clearly Elie, whom George considered to almost be a cute little animal with boundless energy, something like a puppy or rabbit - her short stature adding to that impression. She also had the attention span of one, usually lost in her little world which meant it was time for some antics.
He snuck over behind the girl, with over-the-top action movie stealth and flipped the hood of her hoodie over her face to obstruct her sight before putting on a vaguely (and incorrectly) Eastern European accent that had morphed with Gollum and asking, "To enter you must answer my riddles three, or else uncover my identity!" He did not have three riddles prepared, but you always have to offer three riddles, what sort of puzzle would it be otherwise? She'd clearly just guess who it was anyway.
As Kait pulled up the long driveway to the cabin, she smiled. A break from the world, that’s what this was. Sure, maybe she didn’t know everybody here, and sure, her Australian accent was a dead give away of her recent arrival to the school they attended, but this would be fun. A chance to strengthen her friendships, and to make new ones. What could possibly go wrong?
Shutting off her car, Kait stepped out, onto the grass that was still covered with a fine layer snow, careful to ensure her white sneakers didn’t get mud on them. She shivered, tucking her fingers into the pockets of her teddy bear jacket, and adjusting her hat over her ears. It appeared that only Elentiya Locke, the bubbly girl around her age, and George Carlton, the jock who was also her age, were there. She had never really talked to either of them, but she knew who they were.
Grabbing her suitcase, guitar case and backpack from the trunk, Kaitlin walked up to the two, smiling. “‘Ello, it’s good to see the two of you. I thought I’d arrive and be the only one here,” she said, her face heating. She was terrible at this, social interaction with two people she wasn’t friends with. A startled chuckle escaped her as she fully took in the scene before her. George had pulled Elentiya’s hood over her head and was now...Gollem? She shook her head, a crooked grin spreading across her face. She could tell this would be fun.
Darwin Hobbes I The Peacemaker I Location: Outside the Cabin I Interactions: camlochan camlochan
Darwin pulled over the hood of a grey downy jacket so thick it made him look like an Eskimo, glad that he had packed so warmly for the trip. He may look a little dorky, he thought, but at least he wasn't likely to contract hypothermia anytime soon. Not that death by other means was off the table. "Bunch of teens renting out a cabin in the middle of the woods," he mumbled to himself, switching off the ignition of his dad's BMW, "no way this could go wrong."
However, Darwin had to admit that this particular cabin, with its warm, cozy lights and accompanying scenery right out of a Hallmark card, did not seem like the kind of place where serial killers would enjoy hanging out. Well, if a crazed ax-murderer didn't get him, his parents probably would. He had snuck out for this escapade under the guise of a "networking retreat" for a political science club he wasn't even a member of. Although the resulting pangs of guilt bothered him, he couldn't pass up the chance to spend time with some old friends.
Ever since high school started, it felt like an invisible wall had started forming between various social cliques. Sure, he got along well with most everybody (save for Carl Baxter, after that stunt Darwin pulled on him last April Fool's), but his relationships just weren't the same as they had been during the simpler years of middle school. To put it into basic terms, he was too scrawny for the jocks and too dumb for the nerds.
Darwin climbed out of his car, inhaling the fresh mountain air. He smiled as he spotted Elie and George just ahead, with another girl also making her way up the slope. He wasn't sure who the girl was, but he vaguely remembered her introducing herself at the start of the school year. Curious, he jogged up to her, his face flushing with embarrassment as he realized the uphill walk already left him out of breath, not to mention sweating in his padded coat.
"Uh, hey there. New girl, right?" He stuck his hand out in greeting. "The name's Darwin. Like that guy who studied evolution. I think my parents named me that hoping to have a genius son or something, but then, um...I happened." He let out an awkward but good-natured laugh. "What's your name?"
The mustang’s loud engine approaches and slowly stops as Ares parks his car, he sits on the driver's seat as he slowly removes the car keys.. it makes quite a while since he last spoke with his friends, he doesn’t blame them, with life getting harder every day, every one has been getting busier and busier.. the radio played his cassette tape, a nice and relaxing synthwave song was playing as he prepared himself to meet his friends once again, how much time, weeks.. months ?
Maybe it's his fault for not reaching out and texting them. With both arms on the wheel he rests his head for a moment before opening the door and walking outside, the snow outside falling on his black overcoat, he sighs, on his left pocket remains a closed cigar pack, he wasn’t a smoke but considered doing so countless times. Opening the trunk he grabs his bags.
“Damn..” he slowly walks to the house, and quickly spots Elie and George playing. And a bit further, closer to the house, Kaitlin and Darwin seem to be talking, Ares talked a bit with everyone of the group, he knew most of them since he was a kid after all, it was obvious he would know most of them. He places his right hand on the coat's pocket as he carries his bag with the other. He approaches Kaitlin and Darwin, and with a small nod greets the two, “Hey. Here, give me the bags, I'll put everything inside. See if the others arrive safely, the roads are pretty slippery today"
He waves briefly at Elie and George before letting a brief smile escape his lips, he couldn't lie, he really missed his friends. Now, they just need to wait for the rest to arrive, he can see that a party will probably happen tonight, at least he didn’t forget to bring some drinks for him and maybe some others to enjoy, for the younger ones, he made sure to bring orange juice for a quick laugh.
Am I only good when it’s bad...holding on my hands, they made it easy. For you to leave your worries at my door...
Selena’s Spotify playlist was blaring through the speakers of her Jeep, and she was singing along, feeling every word like a bullet to the heart. She’d never been through a major breakup, of course, but she’d written enough of them that it felt like she had. The scenery was perfect for this type of music too, all winding mountain roads and forests. She was currently pulling up the driveway of the cabin, excited to be with her...friends. If you could call them that. She was surprised she’d been invited to go, as she wasn’t particularly close with any of them, but she was glad nonetheless.
Pulling to a stop next to the other cars, Selena turned off her believed Jeep, and was shocked by the sudden silence. Frowning, she stepped out of the car, her black boots touching their snow dusted ground. She grabbed her one suitcase, and headed to where the others were gathered by the door. She came to a stop by Darwin, Kaitlin and Ares. “Hello, beautiful human beings,” she said cheerfully, pushing a strand of her long brown hair out of her face.
(Selena’s playlist is actually what I was listening to when I wrote this lol. Here’s the link, for any who are interested: oh, okay., a playlist by KionaDexter on Spotify)
The small girl gave another squeal as George pulled her hood over her eyes. She laughs at his terrible impression. European and... Gollum? She pulls his hands off of her hood, pushing the fabric out of the way. She laughs again, turning her head to look up at the tall boy. "You are such a jokster, George."
As everyone else arrives, she smiles widely. "Hello! Hello hello!" She jumps from foot to foot, waving at all her friends as they arrive. She begins running around, hopping from person to person excitedly. No matter how little sleep she gets, it's as if pure caffeine runs through her veins.
"Hello, Kaitlin! Or- Kait? Oh! Hi Darwin! Record any good jokes lately? Ares! So glad you could make it! Selena, hello! Or, should I call you Lena?" She laughs as she runs from person to person, like a kid in a candy shop, taking everyone and everything in with a wonder only found in children.
Antonia Coulby
Toni hopped out of the bus, she'd found one that stopped close to the cabin - it would just leave her with a walk ahead of her in order to get with it. She thanked the driver and waved off his concern as she struggled to move her suitcase in the snow - he paused for a second before shrugging and closing the door as he drove off into the distance. Toni rocked on her heels slightly as she took in the sight before her; green trees dwarfing her all with a dusting of snow, thick foliage leaving only a small snow covered path ahead of her and a steep incline she really didn't want to walk up. But she couldn't exactly back out now, not when she was sure everyone else had arrived - although the snow covering the ground hid any footprints that could have told her if she was the first or last to arrive. She hoped she wasn't first, she didn't like the idea of standing around waiting for everyone else to arrive but she didn't want to be the last one to the party - she'd miss everything that way and she was excited to see everyone again. She'd missed them.
And so with a sigh and a silent thank you to her Mother for making her wear a thick jacket, hat and coat she made her way up the hill towards the cabin. The snow crunched under her feet and went from white to grey as it mixed with the mud - she rolled her eyes and kicked her boots against a tree to try and get the mud off - cursing the fact that they'd all agreed on winter being the perfect time for this getaway. The wind was cold and harsh and she pulled her jacket closer around her as it slid past the fabric of her jacket. She wasn't about to meet everyone looking like she'd fought a battle with a gale and lost, she was going to arrive looking as good as ever and nothing even the hellish weather would stop her. Although she did admire the view around her, it was almost beautiful - if she was into that kind of thing. She was sure some of her friends would be having the time of their lives surrounded by animals and nature but she just hoped that the cabin would be warmer - she wasn't about to spend a break in the middle of nowhere to just freeze to death before she arrived.
She hoped the owner of the cabin wouldn't be paying too much attention to them, she was planning on throwing a party and it better be a good one. She was pretty sure Ares had text to say he was bringing drinks and so she'd made sure to grab snacks on the way instead. She'd hoped they'd be able to get pizza but the cabin was probably too far away for any kind of delivery. Plus she doubted she'd get cell service in this kind of weather.
She came to the top and saw the Cabin in the distance, it really was quite pretty - they had made a good choice with it. She pulled her scarf down from where it covered her face and shook off the snow, "Hey!" She called out as she saw the group gathered, smiling brightly and hurrying towards them all, dropping her bag down on the ground and let go of her suitcase as she stopped in front of them. "Glad you all made it in one piece! I was so sure I'd freeze to death before I made it up here and I swear there was a squirrel that wanted to kill me...it had evil eyes." Or maybe she just didn't like squirrels. She'd never loved the outdoors but this was going to be good for them - a chance to party with no parents for miles. She wasn't surprised Darwin was one of the first people up there, Ellie had been a given - but the others were a surprise. "Ellie! Darwin!" She greeted them both warmly before turning to the others, "So glad you both made it! Wasn't sure if you'd come in all honesty." She let out an appreciative whistle at the sight of Lena's boots, "They look amazing!" Then her eyes flickered over to Kaitlin, the new girl - Toni didn't know much about her bar her reputation - she seemed fun enough and hopefully she'd liven things up a bit. "Hi Katitlin?" She frowned slightly unsure if she remembered the name right, "Good to see you."
Then she saw Ares moving the bags out of the snow and mock saluted him, grinning, "Ares! Glad you made it alright! Wasn't sure if the Mustang would make it, you did bring the drinks right as god I need one." Toni looked around for the others but it seemed they hadn't arrived yet, she hesitated for a second as she debated whether to wait with the others or offer to help Ares before grabbing her bag and following him. "I'll help you, I've got the snacks anyways - we should probably keep them together."
Darwin's eyes brightened as he spotted Ares approaching them. "Whoa, dude!" he called out, "It's been a while." The guy was well known in their friend group for his reserved and stoic nature, but everyone who spent enough time around him knew how much was really going on in that mind of his, as well as how much of a big old softie he could be under that serious exterior. "Did the FBI recruit you for an investigation or something? Is that why you've been so hush hush lately?" Darwin tempered his teasing with a kind smile, hoping that his comment wouldn't come off as accusatory or judgmental. Some people just needed their own personal space for a while, and that was totally fine by him.
In response to Selena's greeting, Darwin put on a hand to his chest in a dramatic fashion and replied "Me? Beautiful? Aw, shucks." in a goofy sounding voice. He was pleasantly surprised to see Selena show up to the gathering, considering that she wasn't very close to any of them. "This is turning out to be the hottest party in town. Even our resident cool mystery girl wants a piece of this action." Selena was known for being somewhat withdrawn and private, and Darwin couldn't help but wonder what kind of interesting things she might be hiding up her sleeve.
Interaction: TayMaiTer TayMaiTer camlochan camlochan
Darwin chuckled as he caught Elie's excited question, fishing out a recording device from one of the pockets on his huge jacket. "You bet!". He tapped the cassette proudly. "This bad boy can fit so many jokes in it." Realizing that Elie already knew Kaitlin's name, he then asked "You friends with the new girl already? Should have expected that. Did you invite her?" He turned to Kaitlin, shaking his head. "Not new girl, Kaitlin. You have a name now, sorry."
Interaction: Alya Alya
Darwin sheepishly scratched the back of his neck as Antonia addressed him. "Yeah, wasn't sure if I'd be coming either. But I was able to clear out some of my busy schedule. If you didn't know, I'm a pretty popular guy." The joke was kind of lame and his voice came out a bit weakly. Having one's stomach churn with guilt over telling a blatant lie to your parents tended to hurt your comedic performance.
Elie as always welcomed Ares with jumps and the happiness of a child, something exclusive from her, this radiant personality of hers really goes in constrast with his own. he pats her head as she passes by, Selena also arrives, and with a typical phrase of hers he strikes back with a simple nod and a smile. Since everyone is arriving he should probably take the bags inside, so no ones stay out in the cold for more time than they have to, as he turns his bag he is teased by Darwin, "it really makes quite some time doesn't it ?" he quickly follows up with a small grin and a joking tone "Yes actually, the fbi hired me. Hide your internet history Darwin" and with a brief giggle he gets a hold of the group's bags and walks towards the cabin, but as he is about to go up the stairs..
Toni arrives, and he didn't forget that she promised to bring the snacks, as she approaches him "Ares! Glad you made it alright! Wasn't sure if the Mustang would make it, you did bring the drinks right as god I need one." He knew Toni was going to joke about the Mustang, he shakes his head, opening the second bag, revealing a bag of various drinks "pick your poison" he says, as he arrives at the cabin door. slowly opening it, the entrance reveals a beautiful and cozy place, a giant sofa that was probably able to hold the entire group on it, and right in front of it a fireplace and a tv on top. on the coffee table there was a collection of DVDs ranging from horror classics to comedy and romance. he takes a deep breath, before placing the bags close to the sofa, he takes the drinks and slowly fills up the fridge. Internet was probably impossible here so all they had were each other and some old movies.
"I'm glad you came, even if I knew you were coming anyways, you don't miss a party do ya ?" he talks with Toni, a visible smile on his face, Toni was the kind of girl that you would bump into almost every party, not that Ares went to many parties during high school. It wasn't a bad thing, actually. They were all different in some way, but those differences were what made them friends. he closes the empty bag, and places it on the ground "Just don't get too drunk, alright ?" the bedrooms are probably upstairs, he should probably pick a room before the others arrive, there is probably a bigger room among the many that this cabin has. "well.." he says "if you're staying here. I'll be picking the biggest room up there. You wanna see who finds it first ?" Ares often Texted Toni before getting flooded with cases and his desire for their closing.
School wasn't easy, considering the nature of Ares and how he deals with many of his emotions it was hard to find friends, but nonetheless she gave him a chance, and the others did too and for that he is forever grateful. he goes up the stairs, opening door by door as he looks for the biggest room on the cabin. This little getaway with his friends was the perfect place for him to take a break from the world. For him to enjoy his friends once more.
She gives a bright smile as everyone continues to socialize. She had missed them. Very much. Elie can't go long without socialization or being around people. So this getaway was perfect!
As Toni's footsteps crunched up the gravel road, her smile only widened. "Toni! You're here!" She jumps up and down excitedly. She opens her mouth as if to say something, but her short attention span gets distracted by something in a nearby tree. She turns to look at it. It's a squirrel! She laughs, darting after the small animal.
She chases the squirrel around a tree before it finally climbs above her reach. She jumps a couple of times, trying to reach the branch it rests on. As it chatters its laughter at her, she stomps her foot, frustrated. She was so close!
Soon, she hears Ares open the cabin door and immediately runs over. She launches past him to land on thd couch on her back, giggling like a fiend. She kicks her boots off before rolling off the sofa. She begins exploring.
Soon, she peeks under the coffee table and lets out a terrified scream...
Collab Post with irregular-neptune irregular-neptune & Narcissy Narcissy :
Introducing:
Máirín “Mo” Hopkins
Benicio “Benny” Reyes
Jun-hui Yang
Location: Driving Up To The Cabin
Mo was finally excited for a break. It was her senior year, and she'd been constantly busy with one project or another and hadn't seen her friends very much in that time. Not to mention that she hadn't really seen many of her old friends in a while. Sure, they'd see each other in passing or have a class or two together, but a true hangout with all of them together was a rarity these days. So, needless to say, she was very excited to finally get them all together for a week of festivities. Not to mention, Christmas was one of her favorite holidays and winter break was her favorite, so she would pretty much be in her element.
Out of all of her friends, Benny was probably one of the ones she kept up with the best. She always tried to look out for him back when they first got close because she knew he generally had a hard time and she could tell that he needed a friend. Now, she would check up on him regularly and make sure that he was doing okay. That's why she offered to give him a ride up there, as a chance to catch up in person. Plus, road tripping with friends is one of her favorite things to do, and she figured that they didn't really all need to drive up there separately when most of them lived pretty close by. Still, the only people who jumped on her offers were Benny and Jun-hui, who seemed like a pretty okay combination for a car ride.
So, she packed her bags full of warm clothes in the back of her dark green PT Cruiser and set out on her way to Benny's to pick him up first. Once she got to his house, she texted him to let him know that she was there and looked through Spotify to find a good playlist for their trip.
"Nos vemos abuelo, abuelita."
Benny called out to his grandparents once he saw the text from Mo telling him she was outside. Of course that didn't stop grandma from following him out onto the porch, repeatedly telling him to be careful, and kissing his cheeks. He was eager to leave but he couldn't help but smile. He could never bring himself to be mean to her. He gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and finally pried himself away from her and jogged towards the green PT Cruiser.
It would have been an understatement to say that he was excited for this trip. It had been a minute since everyone had been able to get together in the same room and he'd been looking forward to it. Those vacations to this house and hanging out with everyone were probably the only fond memories of his childhood.
Him and Mo had always been particularly close so he didn't hesitate when she sent a message to the group asking if anyone needed a ride. It would be fun to catch up on the short trip up to the cabin and he also didn't feel like hogging his grandparent's only car while he was up there, but that was just an excuse to hang out with her and Jun-hui.
When Benny got in the passenger seat, she looked up at him and grinned. "Heya, Benny! How are you doing? What music are we feelin' today?"
He greeted Mo with a tired thumbs up, dropping his duffel bag at his feet, inching down in his seat. "Ah you know, same old, same old. Put on some old punk playlist and let's get out of here. If we linger for too long, she'll start asking me if we're getting married when we get back."
Mo grinned at Benny's comment as she hit play on her classic 70s and 80s punk playlist she had made for Benny way back -- she should know better than to ask. She wasn't the biggest fan of punk and usually only listened to it with Benny, but it definitely had its merits and it often made her feel nostalgic for better days and loitering in places they shouldn't have been.
"Aw, do you not want to marry me?" She snorted, pulling out from Benny's place and beginning to drive towards Jun-hui's. Not that she didn't like Benny, he just wasn't quite her type. Now, if he were a girl, that would be a different story. "I joke. I think it's cute though! She just wants to see you happy."
"Tell you what, you ever get into dudes..."
Benny smirked and shot finger guns in Mo's direction, "You get first dibs."
He chuckled and leaned back in his seat, running his right hand through his hair and scratching the back of his head. "She is sweet though and if it weren't for her I probably wouldn't have started hanging out with you guys to begin with so you can thank her for that... or kick her in the shins."
Benny stared out the window, watching the houses, cars, and tree's go by, swaying and shaking his head to the music and silently mouthing the lyrics from the familiar playlist on the way to Jun-hui’s house. Jun-hui was clearly the smart one in their little group. None of them were really dumb in Benny's opinion but Jun-hui always had something else that set him apart, he didn't study just to pass but because he liked learning and that was something Benny could always respect.
A few minutes later, Mo pulled into Jun-hui's house and texted him, absently nodding her head to the music and tapping the rhythms on the steering wheel. She put her phone in her pocket and yawned tiredly but contentedly. "I'm so excited! I feel like we are going to have so much fun. I love road trips!"
When Jun-hui got into her backseat, Mo grinned at him in the rear view mirror as she pulled out of his driveway to begin their journey. He settled in, putting on his seatbelt.
"Hey, Mo. What's up, Benny?" Jun-hui said with a smile.
Benny greeted Jun-hui as he climbed into the backseat with a peace sign, "Livin' the dream buddy."
As Jun-hui sat back into his seat, an aura of cool emanated from the front passenger side. Ever since Jun-hui could remember, Benny was the first person to really carve his own way into the world. Jun-hui was deeply fascinated by his friend that could live outside the rules and deep down, a part of him wanted to be like Benny.
Outside, the blur of houses began to form into a blur of trees as they traveled farther and farther away from their neighborhood. "I hope you like punk music!" Mo called back to him. "But if you don't let me know and we'll change it in a bit. Also, there's snacks back there on the other seat if you want any later!"
Putting his duffle bag underneath his legs, Jun-hui responded, "It's ok. I don't mind what plays." At hearing the word 'snacks, his ears had perked up. Jun-hui searched through a plastic bag on the seat next to him for a few seconds before his eyes locked onto a familiar red box and wrapper.
"White Cheddar Cheez-Its?! And Skittles?! You read my mind." He said with delight.
Benny smiled again as Jun-hui enthused about the snacks, thinking only about Mo's thoughtfulness. He'd certainly packed some food but most of his snacks and party favors were more of the chemical variety. Jun-hui began snacking, admiring how Mo seemed to have this ability to always seem to be on top of everything. If Jun-hui had to count on anyone, it would be Mo for sure. Jun-hui felt excitement form in his gut as the three of them journeyed toward the cabin where the rest of his friends were likely waiting. Before they knew it, Mo, Benny, and Jun-hui began to catch up and share their stories. Their lengthy road trip didn’t seem so long after all.
---
The further they drove civilization became less frequent until finally they stopped seeing houses and other cars stopped showing up on the road. A couple hours later, Jun-hui awoke to the movement of the PT Cruiser as they traveled over some rough terrain leading up to the cabin. There were no other houses in sight. Just a beautiful valley of snow-covered trees. It was several hours before they'd finally made it to the cabin and it looked like some of the group had already arrived. As they drew nearer, they could see familiar faces and unfamiliar ones.
As the car came to a stop, Benny yawned and climbed out, slinging his bag over his shoulder, thankful that he'd dressed a lot warmer than his usual wardrobe would have allowed for. Jun-hui stepped out himself and marveled at the forest around them. After a minute, he grabbed his duffle bag and headed towards the cabin. It wasn’t long before Mo got her belongings as well and joined them.
They had arrived.
Suddenly, a young girl's scream came from inside. Jun-hui shot both of his friends a worried look before running into the cabin.
Benny Reyes | The Delinquent | Outside of the Cabin to Inside of the Cabin
Benny's boots had barely touched the snow before he stepped out of the car and let out a long dramatic yawn, making a show of stretching and cracking his back. Cold weather was not his favorite, in fact, he hated cold weather but even he had to admit there was something beautiful about the scenery here. Maybe he'd recreate it one day on the side of a building back in town. The thought brought a smile to his face as he started looking around.
He spotted a few cars he recognized first. He remembered seeing George's car parked a few miles down the road and he could see Elie's beat up Ford. There was Ares' Mustang and Selena's Jeep, he even saw Darwin's dad's BMW and he couldn't help but feel proud of the hilarious little dude. There was also one car he didn't recognize but he did vaguely remember something about someone new joining them.
Slinging his large duffel bag over his shoulder with his right hand and sticking his left hand into the pocket of his black, wool-lined leather jacket, he let out a breath, watching the vapor release into the air as he exhaled. He was just about to start making his way towards the cabin when a shriek ripped through the still air. Benny hesitated just long enough to shoot a glance at Mo and Jun-hui but took off in a dead sprint immediately after, he didn't even bother dropping his bag.
As he approached the door he saw George, Darwin, Selena, and who he assumed to be the new girl standing outside. Good, at least they were safe, but Ares, Toni, and Elie were nowhere to be seen. He burst through the door and was greeted by the sight of Elie on the floor, still screaming. Finally taking the time to free himself of his bag he rushed over to her and dropped down to see what had gotten her so worked up, noticing the shredded corpse of the rabbit.
"Oh what the fuck?!"
Benny scrambled back away from the coffee table. Shocked was the ultimate understatement. Was there a word for being confused, angry, disgusted, and creeped out all at the same time? Regardless, he wasn't sure of what he felt at the moment. He'd been looking forward to a nice few days with some old friends and then, boom, mutilated rabbit. He stared at it for a few seconds, trying to find a way to rationalize this in his head but there was no amount of mental gymnastics that could make sense out of this. This was a rented cabin, maybe the last person here was a sick bastard wanting to give the people after them a serious scare, regardless, they were going to have to get rid of it.
Benny finally turned to Elie and offered his hand to help her sit up.
"Hey, hey, hey... it's okay, we'll get it cleaned."
George Carlton
The Jock | Location: Inside the cabin | Interactions: Everyone
George took a moment to simply take in the atmosphere - rather controversially, he preferred the cold to heat, after all it's way easier to heat up than cool down especially when trying to get to sleep. He sharply inhaled, injecting the cold air into his lungs and breathily exhaled, forming a cloud of condensation simply for the nostalgia of it. The memory of pretending to be smoking gangsters as kids or playing as some sort of frost dragons whenever winter rolled around warmed his heart despite the cold. See? Way easier to heat up than cool down. And there was no better way to heat up than with a lot of booze by a fireplace surrounded by your friends. He was looking forward to this.
People started arriving in quick succession: Kaitlin, he recognised her as the captain of the basketball team, a fellow sportsman would always have his respect; Darwin, with his classic comedy gold, er, well, it was at least bronze; Ares, with his loud-ass Mustang and quiet-ass self; Selena, who... honestly, he wasn't sure what to think but she seemed nice enough; Toni, social butterfly and cheerleader - the number of times he had to refute locker room talk about her was too many to count; fuck me this list is getting long, only a few more to account for.
The gang was rolling in, some in clusters - Mo, Benny, and Jun-hui arrived together which led to George thinking damn, why didn't I think of that? I could have save so much on gas! - most independently and the usual cacophony of reunion layered on thicker with each new arrival as was expected. What wasn't expected was that Elie had let out a bloodcurdling scream mere moments after entering the cabin followed by a flash of movement from Benny into the cabin. Momentarily George was distracted by the question of why Benny still hadn't taken his persistent offers to join some sort of sports team as he clearly had the physique and capability to do so but that little tangent was soon abandoned as George picked up his bearings and realised he should probably find out whatever the hell was happening in there.
It was a goddamn rabbit corpse. He considered making a joke about meat being on the menu, but this poor thing had clearly been tortured and mutilated rather than hunted for food by animals or people.
"That's royally fucked up." he simply stated, digging through his main bag for a plastic bag. Elie was probably the worst person who could have stumbled upon this, she practically was a small animal in her heart and would likely be somewhat shaken - she went from chasing squirrels to discovering a shredded rabbit (and not shredded in a good way). George decided that he'd leave consoling her to Benny, the man was a living silver tongue after all and always knew what to say. He would deal with clean up duty. "Benny's right, we'll clean it up and that'll be the end of that. We're here for a good time and we're not going to let some asshole's sick prank ruin that already." He had a newspaper and plastic bag from when he stopped by a corner shop before arriving so he started looking for them and began the disposal process with a perpetual mask of disgust on his face.
Kait stumbled back, a hand pressed to her mouth at the sight. A mutilated rabbit. Who would have done such a thing!? “I-I... that’s...that’s disgusting!” She said, her Australian accent strong. “Oh, that poor rabbit,” she continued sadly, tears pricking at her eyes. She watched in mixed disgust and horror on her face as George began cleaning up the mess, unable to peel her eyes from the sight. She’d just gotten here, and a disaster had already occurred. Just her luck. Bad things seemed to follow Kaitlin, so she shouldn’t be surprised, but she had thought that just once things could go smoothly for her, without a hitch. Was it selfish of her to be thinking like that at a moment like this?
Kait kneeled down besides George, and began attempting to assist him in cleaning up the mess. The hard-wood floors were soaked in blood, a big puddle of it leading under the table. Using one of George’s newspapers, Kait began sopping up the puddle of blood, the crimson liquid seeping through the paper and covering her hands. She fought the urge to gag as she continued cleaning, a single tear rolling down her face.
Selena Sparks
Interactions: Everyone and no one, kind of? Location: In cabin
Selena watched silently as George and Kaitlin picked up the mess, her thoughts racing, trying to rationalize why someone would do this. Was it someone here? The blood certainly looked fresh, so it had to be someone here, unless it had been done just before everyone arrived. If it was one of them, who could it be? Certainly not Elentiya, the girl was far too innocent and naive. Unless that was all an act. Maybe George? He did have the supplies to clean the mess, though they weren’t very effective. Poor Kaitlin’s hands were soaked in blood! It very well could’ve been her. Come on, it made perfect sense. New girl from Australia, who isn’t really friends with any of them? Selena pushed the thought aside, shame burning inside of her. Kaitlin was crying, and Selena wanted to acuse her of murder. It could’ve been a wild animal. Yes, she was sure that was it. A wild animal had brought its kill into the cabin.
“It could’ve been a wolf...or, or a bear or something, you know?” She know it sounded ridiculous, but it was better than the other options.
Her scream is cut off as she chokes, gagging. She covers her mouth, tears pricking her eyes. Who would do such a thing?! Why?! And why leave it here?! As George and Kaitlin begin cleaning it up, she pushes back away from the corpse. She is panting - no. Not panting. Hyperventilating - but is unable to tear her eyes away. Elie doesn't quite understand why she is acting as if it is a person but... It is a shredded animal...
Finally, she notices Benny crouched next to her and takes his hand to sit up. He starts murmuring to her, trying to comfort her.
All I wanted to do was explore... I didn't want to find a dead animal!!
'It could’ve been a wolf...or, or a bear or something, you know?'
She looks at Selena over her shoulder. "Yeah... Y-Yeah that must be it... Just another animal..." But does an animal break a rabbit's neck before slicing it open and then gutting the thing? Does an animal leave a rabbit without eating it?
She takes a shuddering breath as she tries to calm herself down. Everyone else isn't freaking out like Elie is... it is just a rabbit afterall, right?
Amid all of the introductions, Darwin spotted a familiar green PT cruiser coming up the driveway with a trio of passengers aboard. Typical of Mo to go out of her way to drive over some friends, he thought to himself. She was one of those people who took everybody under her wing, to the point where they liked to joke about her being the group’s “mom”.
When the car stopped, out came Benny, the smooth talking tough guy with a heart of gold. He was followed by Jun-Hui, who was really cool to talk to but somehow found school fun, a concept which left Darwin equally amazed and baffled. Considering how different all of their personalities were, it was a wonder how the friend circle had stuck together during their years at high school. But yet here they were, getting along as well as ever.
He was ready to greet the newcomers when he heard a high pitched shriek from inside the cabin that made his blood run cold. It sounded an awful lot like his friend Elie. Frozen in place, he watched with dread as the others ran inside the cabin. What unpleasant sight was waiting for them?
Forcing himself to walk up the stairs and glance through the doorway, he spotted Elie sitting inconsolable on the floor, a stark change from her usually chipper self. Benny was trying to help the poor girl up, while George was kneeling next to an unidentifiable red mass, mopping it up with a newspaper. A distraught comment from Kaitlin identified the heap of guts and viscera as a dead rabbit - freshly dead, at that.
Darwin turned away and rushed over to grab onto the porch railing, his legs suddenly weak. Gore heavy movies had always freaked him out; witnessing a snuff film scene brought to life was causing him to experience levels of nausea he’d never before thought possible.
“Crap, I’m gonna be- ” was all he could get out before leaning over the side of the porch and puking.
Ares Lancaster
Location: Inside the Cabin| Interactions: Everyone| Role: The Future Detective
As he opens the doors on the second floor of the cabin, one of the members of the group lets out a shriek that seems to catch Ares attention quite quickly. He rushes down the stairs, only to see the scene that just played out. George and Kaitlin slowly clean a a puddle of what Ares quickly recognizes as blood, a rabbit was murdered inside the cabin. Kaitlin seems to be very but very shaken which drives Ares to quickly step forward and grab the newspaper that she was holding, "You don't need to clean this, please go wash your hands" he says, as he places the newspaper on the puddle of blood.
What could have caused such thing ? 'It could’ve been a wolf...or, or a bear or something, you know?' he nods, "Maybe, actually it might very well be. However, if so.. I fear that the same animal could very well try to enter the cabin again. So, we better make sure we lock everything once we go to sleep" he finishes, he wasn't able to take a look at the body but knew that surely it wasn't a hunter, they rarely leave such a mess. he sighs, no words were able to describe how this little event probably messed up some of the members of the group, Ares wasn't particularly shaken by it as he has seen his fair share of police files and photos. If he ever wishes to be a part of a investigation agency, he would have to accept seeing dead bodies, humans and animals.
"I...Suggest that everyone leaves the living room for a couple minutes, Darwin also seems to be out, can someone check on him ?" He silently cleans it accompanied by George. Whoever or whatever did this really messed up their party, but Ares wasn't going to this destroy their reunion. Later on he would try to see if Toni was still up for starting that party. He looked at Elie, but no words came out of his mouth, he wasn't really good with them so it was best to keep it between her and Benny.
Jun-hui | Location: Cabin Interior, Living Room | Interactions: camlochan camlochan Nobuzout Nobuzout Sostos Sostos
What is that?
The first thing Jon-hui noticed was the smell. It wasn’t overpowering, but it was definitely present. All Jun-hui could focus on was the smell and where it was coming from. Inside there were already several people and they were staring at Elie's disturbing discovery under the coffee table.
It was a rabbit.
Or at least what was left of it. A dozen explanations crossed his mind as to why there would be a wild animal in such a condition randomly in their cabin. None of them made much sense.
Maybe it was a prank? Some sort of joke. Made in poor taste, but still meant to be a joke? Jun-hui knew that they were in the middle of nowhere, but perhaps some hikers had come through the cabin. Some snow-shoed delinquents that stopped by the cabin for twisted purposes. There were those types of kids out there.
Still. It’s just a random rabbit.. here.
Jun-hui didn’t immediately see any boot prints or any type of markings to indicate anything out of the ordinary. Cleaning up the mess, Jun-hui saw his friend Ares, a brilliant detective-type boy that would, without any doubt, find something upon his closer inspection. Jun-hui's heart sunk as he saw poor Elie being consoled by Benny. Darwin ran out with a very upset stomach. George and another girl he didn't recognize was also helping. Another girl he also didn't know stood off to the side. Introductions would have to wait.
“Yes. Bears or wolves...” Jun-hui echoed the girl’s thought, while thinking for a moment. “In any case, we shouldn’t be bothered anymore. We’re here. There are people here now. We will likely have the lights on, music blasting.” Jin-hui tried to give them a reassuring smile.
“No bears or wolves should bother us.” Jun-hui went into the kitchen to see if he could find anything to help them clean. He returned with two garbage bags, a bottle of bleach solution, some old rags, and a half empty box of disposable gloves.
"Hi, George. Ares. Very interesting start to this week, huh?" Jun-hui gave a friendly smile to the new girl who was kind enough to get her hands seriously dirty. "I think we should douse the area some more bleach water." Jun-hui hoped to just get the smell out of the cabin. It had begun to bother him.
After about a good 15 minutes, the mess had been cleaned. A very clean and damp spot on the wooden floor remained where the rabbit once was. Still, Jun-hui predicted many of them would probably avoid that area for the remainder of the trip simply for the fact that a dead rabbit once laid there.
Mo | The Mom Friend
Location: Cabin Exterior| Interactions: TayMaiTer TayMaiTer Jolly Roger Jolly Roger | Mood: Nervous, disturbed |
Mo had barely pulled into the driveway before the scream rang out and everyone rushed into the Cabin. Jun-Hui and Benny had gotten there before she did, but she peeked over Benny's shoulder through all their friends to see it... the mutilated rabbit, shredded and left to hide under the table. She almost panicked for a minute before swallowing it down and taking a deep breath as Darwin ran out of the room and the chaos of attempted cleaning ensued. There wasn't much by way of cleaning supplies at hand, and as people started trying to clean it up with bits of newspaper, she started to go out to her car to see if there was anything she could offer up, but Jun-Hui quickly came back from the kitchen with what looked like enough to get the job done, so she began to usher people out of the cabin to get some fresh air and calm down while those who had volunteered cleaned. She figured she'd check on Darwin first, since he'd seemed to have a particularly visceral reaction to the find and then maybe she'd really check up on Elie because she'd found the creature and Mo was sure she'd be devastated, considering she wasn't sure Elie had ever seen anything like that (Mo hadn't either, but she was more concerned about the younger girl than herself).
She went to the car to grab some water bottles out of the trunk, where she had bought a pack in case they needed some. She took a moment at her car to take some deep breaths and calm down, remind herself it was just an animal. The sight was harrowing, but... it was just an animal that had an accident, right? Still, she was unnerved by the situation for some reason, so she decided to distract herself by doing what she always did, comforting her friends. So, she grabbed a couple of water bottled and returned back to the cabin, where she found Darwin on the porch, leaning over the side after what she presumed was getting sick. "Here, drink this," she said, handing him the water bottle. "I'll be right back to check on you, sit down and take some deep breaths. Do you need anything else?"
After checking in with Darwin she went to go find Elie where she'd went to calm down while the cleaning process was happening. Her already small friend seemed even smaller, shaking a little in what she knew was fear. "Hey Elie, are you okay? Do you want some water or a hug?"
She looks up at her friend, Mo. She must've been late because she hadn't seen her outside. Tears prick the back of her eyes, but she swallows them down. No one else is reacting this way. No one else is acting like a child terrified of the boogeyman. So, Elie shouldn't either. She should try to be strong, like George or Benny.
She gives Mo a shakey smile. "Heya Mo.. Glad you could make it.." When she asks if Elie need anything, the small girl shakes her head. "I... I'm okay... thank you though." She watches Jun-Hui clean up the corps- No. Not a corpse. It is a just a rabbit. She watches him clean up the rabbit with blank eyes. Why did she have a bad feeling about this? It was just an animal, but why did it seem like it meant more?
Eventually, she rises on wobbly legs and moves to the couch that she had originally thrown herself on. Back when she didn't have a care in the world. She should be trying to forget the whole thing, shouldn't she? Try and go back to who she is. So, she forces a bright smile and gives a half-hearted giggle. "Well then. That is one w-way to start off our weekend, no?"
Darwin smiled gratefully as Mo handed him the water bottle. Even in a stressful situation like this, his friend’s first thought was to attend to those in need. “Thanks.” he said, taking a large gulp from the bottle and wiping his mouth with his sleeve. “I’ll be fine. That gas station corndog I ate an hour ago must have been a little out of date.” He didn’t want to give Mo reason to worry over him, since she was undoubtedly dealing with a lot herself right now.
The initial shock faded, Darwin followed Mo into the room where the rabbit carcass lay, wanting to offer his help in cleaning up the mess but afraid that he might lose his composure again. Instead, he sat on the couch and sipped tentatively at his water.
Darwin thought it might be a good idea to try to lighten the mood with some humor. “Yeah, it’s pretty rad if you think about it.” he said, addressing Elie. “Some wolf left a nice housewarming gift for us to find. Maybe it wants to be friends? You know, Alfredo, my cat, he leaves dead rats and birds on my doorstep all the time. It’s kinda cute.” His words of optimism did not sound particularly convincing, even to himself.
