That's actually not true. Redirecting energy in any direction will use much less effort then creating the energy, forming it, giving the energy shape, and then apply effort to have the energy do what you want to do will use up far more energy than taking the created energy and altering it's course. You would need to use little to no effort to merely redirect it. Unless the opposing force is OVERWHELMING then yeah of course. But in this case everyone is roughly within each other's range of power.

Well.. in order to redirect the energy, Alex has to, in your own words: "creating the energy, forming it, giving the energy shape, and then apply effort to have the energy do what you want to". Alex doesn't just twirl the energy around and send it back with his hands, he is using his own gravity energy to perform that action. So you're wrong there. By the way, my character is indeed overwhelmingly stronger than the others, he's just a boss character for this one event. It's not even a question of logic, it's what i've decided as GM in order to keep fights balanced.
