Where Giants Sleep
Snapping a picture of the message he found sprawled inside the Tiger statue’s jaws, Elias mirrored Passeri’s example and pressed the send button, adding it to their pool of information.
The Autumn full moon glows white.
Cute. Elias couldn’t help but notice how the line rhymed with the one Passeri found on the Serpent Statue. Were they dealing with poetry? His eyes twinkled in amusement.
Passing messages via memories was certainly safer than doing so digitally, as the latter could be intercepted, but Elias required physical contact to utilize his potential and he didn’t want to keep the others waiting. He wasn’t entirely certain he wanted to reveal the full extent of his potential to the group either. On one hand, Elijah Anamnesis didn’t mind; It would certainly make things more interesting and he prioritized efficiency over keeping his powers hidden. On the other, it would make obtaining memories and information that much more difficult as people would be (rightfully) wary of physical contact with him.
Then again, Isobel Pham already knew. The Tiger King knew. Alice–and the entire sector of Tigers that kept her in a golden cage–knew. He suspected that Passeri Park already knew since every business interaction and handshake with her–after a certain point–was met with gloves. The corner of Elias's lips quirked upward. There was really no way to identify who knew from who didn’t unless they confronted him about it…or he read their memories. Even so, did it really matter? Elias appreciated smart, talented people. Therefore, while he didn’t openly reveal the specifics of his potential to the gang, those who were “in the loop”, who kept an eye on the rookies and were good at piecing things together, would know.
Otherwise, he revealed it when necessary.
Or to the people that interested him.
Stroking the head of the white-marbled tiger statue, as if it were a live cat, Elias read the incoming text messages before leisurely crossing the square to the East side of the plaza, where greenery was more abundant. Purchased lunch and some Heavenly Beast keychains as well. He was in the section of the plaza with many, many stalls, after all. Even if the entire “reconnaissance mission” did turn out to be some wild goose chase, Elias didn’t intend to waste the experience; Getting to know his fellow Albino Tiger gang members was useful in its own right.
Therefore, with a bag of goodies in one hand (which included cold canned drinks, mini-finger sandwiches, sushi, etc) and a phone in the other, Elias strolled through the perfectly cut grass and colorful foliage, following a river, that certainly wasn’t red, until the statue of a Dragon came into sight. Wren, Kenji, and Passeri as well. A warm, beaming smile spread across his face as he lifted the bag of goodies; Fake in nature, as all Elias’s business smiles were, but reality was often how one perceived it.
Besides, if it was more beautiful, he didn’t really have a problem with the fake replacing the real.
“I’ve brought food. Can’t solve riddles on an empty stomach, after all.”
If they didn’t want it, he’d give the leftovers to his employees. Or the random kids running around the plaza. Whichever was more convenient.
Stepping closer to the others, and the Dragon statue, Elias’s sharp eyes picked up the final clue engraved along the body of the mythical edifice and listed them in his mind, by order of seasons:
If only Osamu were around. Having an excellent memory and learning capacity didn’t mean Elias was good at solving riddles. That required a different sort of brain. Then again, the Albino Tiger gang was composed of many, brilliant, opportunistic minds. Elias had little doubt that the puzzle would be unraveled by their motley crew…eventually. For now, the cryptic lines just sounded like colorful, seasonal poetry to him.

"Buds of green against the canvas of spring.”
"On rivers red does summer flow."
"The Autumn full moon glows white.”
"In the palms of winter rests the blackest nights."
