News New Chat System (Trial)

A huge issue,I've noticed: The site doesn't know which instance of the chat to update if you browse the site with multiple simultaneous tabs. Which I do almost constantly in order to keep myself updated on items of interest,and to post in RP's while keeping important information (like posts from three pages ago,or a character sheet) at my fingertips. I've had to completely close all but one of my tabs,and refresh the last one to get any chat updates.

Okay, so, I can see the use in the chat bar, although it seems kinda superficial to have user chats there in addition to PMs. I personally won't use it so it won't bother me either way


I use the SB a lot, so here's my thoughts on the new one:


- the user list on the left side is nice


- your own replies look out of place


- your own replies seem to overlap with others' messages so it's hard to see who posted first


- it doesn't seem to work


- when you update the site it takes 2 years to load the left bar


- chat history is not stored so the chat is completely white when you enter or refresh


- does the chat even work?


- color options?


- all replies look very awkward, maybe merge posts of same user?


- what's the night icon for users?


- does it break when I open a new tab?


And also, was this entire thing (including the bar) just ripped off Facebook?

You can't have the big chat and the one in the bar open at the same time.

Fixed the issue with synxing accross tabs, the big chat with the mini chat, etc.


No matter how many tabs or if you use the mini chat with the big one, it will always instantly sync.

Still no mobile chat bar.


Still loading issues.


Screen still freezes when side list refreshes.


Unable to message individual people to chat.


Still looks jumbled and messy.


Strange, very small character limit, not nearly as large as that of the shoutbox.


Moving hotbar (the one with alerts and all the tabs) keeps moving and getting in the way on mobile.


That's what I have so far.

So just giving people the chance and releasing banned users into the chat was the worst way to go about that.


Instead banned users will be given the chance if they so desire to appeal their ban by posting in admin contact.

Ookay, so far I'm liking the the sleek new chat. Here's my opinion and some nitpick :


Pros:

• Loves the bar and alert system. I don't need to switch tab anymore to keep up between RP and chat
  
• The appearance is smooth and the speed is faster indeed (for me at least)
  

Contra & nitpick:

• If I block someone, there's no sign that they have been blocked. Perhaps you can change the option to 'Unblock User', or greying the username so I know if I accidentally block someone xD
  
• In the large chat, if the username on the list is clicked, the option appear on the far top of window instead of beside the username (like the small chat)
  
• If closed, the chat rooms alert on the bar still appear although I read the chat page right then. The only way to make it disappear is to open the tab, which, if you are in the large version of the chat, is kind of redundant
  

Other things:

• I miss the /me option there goes my way of narrating my awesome(?) entrance to the chat.
  
• Wizard, for admin & mod I think different-colored text is better than bolded text

You know all that this needs now? Private group chats, for faster collaborating than PMs, and easier to follow! Like a PM...In your chat!


Probably hard to do, but wouldn't that be nice?

So far, I like it. The two things I'd like to see implemented (if possible) are these:

• Text colors
  
• An emote command, like the previous Shoutbox's "/me"

Really love the new features of the chat. It's quick, surely less resource intensive, and the Private Chat with other users is freakin' fantastic.


The updated mobile version works great on my phone as well.


My only gripe so far is the strange layout of the larger version. The lack of a 'bubble' with your own avatar in it, coupled with the text coming from the right side and almost feeling like it 'combines' with the user speaking from the left, makes things a mess of confusion.


Personally, I also don't like the colored boxes surrounding the text either, but that's a minor detail that I can live with. I DO like the blue shade though around your own text, so maybe I don't know what I want. xD I just think the light grey box around other user text is weird and hard to notice or something? (I know what I mean. lolol)


Either or, the lack of lag and having to refresh makes my day pretty great. If there'd be a way to put the user's words on the left side with every other users, it'd be perfect to me. ^^

Its telling me I need to click on the gear but theres nothing there all it is; is a white box with ---ADMINS--- ---MODS--- ---USERS--- nothing more. So far, i'm already hating on the chatbox xD

Are you on a desktop? If so the gear I'd in the bar at the bottom of your page.

You have a shout box ban. Should go appeal that.
