"Home Isn't the Place, It's the People"
Only the people in the "Need To Know" category of NCIS employees know about the NCIS Office of Special Projects (OSP). To the rest of NCIS, this office is just considered a myth. And to the world... Well, no one knows it exists. And that's how it's meant to be. The OSP teams live a life in the shadows- 4 gym memberships, alternating running routes daily, no social media. These agents simply don't exist as themselves. Rather, they assume any role necessary to go undercover, nothing tracing back to them that leads them to be made. It's a tough life, and only certain people can handle it, but the ones who do excel at their jobs.
Directer Vance, after witnessing how many cases a team was assigned to, started to worry about these exclusive units- it just seemed like they were being spread too thin, pulled in many directions at once. In particular, he was concerned by the amount of travel that these units had to go through in such a rapid period of time, with no training on how to adapt to a mobile lifestyle like the NCIS mobile units received. He wanted to combine the best of both worlds: an exclusive team of agents skilled at undercover work, and an exclusive team of mobile agents. Both lifestyles required are extremely difficult on an individual, and the Director realized that and started a search for the people who seemed like the could handle the intensity of the job. The application process he created was extremely thorough, including an extensive resume, an in depth background check, and a lengthy interview process. Out of those who he deemed to be capable of being on such a team, he hired, forming the NCIS OSP Chameleon Team.
The members of this team have to live like OSP agents- no social media, nothing under their real name, no one knowing about their job. They have to keep their personal information to a minimum, to avoid being made while undercover. They are always on alert, always watching over their shoulder. They have to be ready to assume another identity without any warning- they must be a chameleon. The members of this team also have to like like NCIS Mobile agents. Their concept of a home redefined, they have to leave their family and friends behind, with no idea when next they'll see their loved ones. They have to get along with their team well enough to be able to live with them- to withstand the changes that such close quarters inevitably bring.
The NCIS OSP Chameleon Team is made up of NCIS special agents, analysts, and forensics scientists, as well as the five buses they live and work on. Their unit is incredibly self contained, the buses providing every amenity one could need: living quarters, a gym, a shooting range, a morgue, a lab, an Ops center, and even a few interrogation rooms.
The ones hired... well, let's just say that they never got any team bonding opportunities. They were supposed to, but a threat to national security appeared before they could get around to that. This assignment is their team bonding opportunity- can they make it work, becoming a family of sorts in the process? Or will they dissolve as soon as they solve the case?
