I was wondering if I could make a request when it comes to roles. I had an idea for a character but I wanted to run a couple of things by first cause she's a little...I just had the word and it disappeared as I went to type it...I'll just say 'different' for now. ^.^

Well, they would be a sort of 'vanguard' character that specializes in close-quarter engagements, perhaps part of/leading a specialized strike team for boarding enemies to cause disruptions, eliminate dangerous emplacements or taking out ship Captains to resolve combat with as little bloodshed as possible. When not on the offensive, they would act as a defense force against similar tactics. The character themselves would also have a secondary role as a fighter pilot, acting as a light fighter/interceptor skilled in dogfights.

I think that could be interesting. Since anti-piracy and general peace keeping is the main task of the fleet, boarding a smaller ship would be reasonable. Though I think such crew roles would be secondary since keeping the ship running and ready to fight would be more important than the occasional boarding action happening.

Of course, I just mean it in the sense that it's where their primary skillset is focused. When CQC is called for it'd be their priority, otherwise, they'd maintain other duties on board as a pilot or acting in the capacity of an officer to keep the peace, make sure everything is going smoothly and everyone is working, etc. That said, it wouldn't just have to be small that could be boarded, if necessary, larger ones could in order to sow confusion or debilitate particular systems before quickly retreating. A quick in and out to help provide an advantage.

That would work.
As for larger ships being boarded, I think it would be the last action after battering them to submission since getting close to any ship would really end as suicide. It would mostly be clearing the last piece of resistance to take a prize, loot, or to scuttle the enemy ship in an attempt to save ammunition.

You might actually be surprised but there are boarding tactics used before and during engagements, though generally not something done within the official naval military, they have been used by private military forces and pirates. ^.^
Also going back to something mentioned earlier about a 'Yamamoto' ship, while yes, it's the name of a person, not a ship, I think it's likely just got the name wrong and could possibly be referring to the Yamato-class battleships, of which I believe there were two, if I recall correctly; the Yamato and the Musashi.

That is true. But the setting for this would be an official navy. Protecting the ship from boarding would definitely come into play. Boarding the enemy ship to do enough harm for it to be worth would require a lot of manpower though.
And yeah, the Yamato class did have 3 ships planned, with the third, Shinano, ending up converted to an aircraft carrier.

That is a good point. Going on a spec-ops style offensive isn't important to the character concept, I mostly just like the discussion. :p The important thing now, is whether it's a character I could bring in here.
I wasn't aware of that myself. But then, I only have random snippets of knowledge about this kinda thing. :3

Mhm. I don't see a reason why such a character couldn't exist.
And yeah, there's a lot of odd things when it comes to the IJN.

Tho I don’t think the IJN had put their SNLF to station on ship

SNLF was part of the navy's army. There were some raiding forces that were formed from the ship crews, but those were being sent onto land rather than other ships.
