Alarmed and Strangerous
This is where you can post your characters for Shogun of Shadows once they've been approved via PM. Please note that you have the option of of creating either a genin or a chunin level character. Chunin will obviously start with more attribute and jutsu points, making them more powerful, however genin will generally be awarded more points after successful missions, allowing them to grow faster. Once the the genin characters start to catch up with chunin, they'll be promoted and the characters will be on more or less even footing. I'm not entirely how sure that process will take however as it will depend partly on how many missions players participate in.

Beyond gameplay, I encourage you to think about what kind of character you want to play, someone starting off fresh and inexperienced with lots of room to grow? or someone who's already a bit developed in terms of their outlook and approach to things. Both can be potentially a lot of fun I think and seeing the two different levels of character interact should provide an interesting dynamic to the RP. Please note that Chunin applications will be subject to a bit more scrutiny in terms of balance and quality of writing, if you want to start with more power I'd like to be reasonably confident you're going to be a positive addition to the RP. If you're a bit less experienced or just wanting to feel more casual about things, I encourage you to consider a genin character as an option.

If you want to create a genin character, then you'll start with 15 attribute points to allocate and 6 points to spend on jutsu while chunin start with 40 attribute points and 12 jutsu points. genin characters can't allocate more than 5 points to any one attribute or take more than -3 points of ineptitude. Chunin characters are uncapped in this regard.

If you have any trouble with the CS, refer to the guide below for a step by step on filling out your stats, although keep in mind that the guide was written for earlier RPs where playing as a chunin was not an option so it might be slightly confusing from that perspective. If you're still having trouble after that feel free to reach out to me, via the interest check, DM or discord, whatever works for you.

Filling out Your Skills & Attributes

While the rest of the CS is hopefully fairly self-explanatory, the Skills and Attributes grid can be a little bit complex so we've provided a step by step guide to walk you through the process.

As you can see, the stat grid has three rows: attributes, skills and bonuses. The 15 points you start the RP with are only divided up among the categories in the first row, the skill row is filled out by averaging together different attributes and the bonuses row we will discuss further down.

Str Agi Per Int Stm Mastery(+2 to a skill of your choice per point)Ineptitude(-2 to a skill of your choice per -point)Total
Attributes 1 to 5 1 to 5 1 to 5 1 to 5 1 to 5 0 to 3 -5 to 0 15
Taijutsu Tools Stealth Genjutsu Ninjutsu Specialization: (enter name here if unlocked)Specialization 2: (cannot be unlocked yet)
Skills (str+stm)/2 (agi+str)/2 (per+agi)/2 (int+per)/2 (stm+int)/2 (stat+stat)/2 (cannot be unlocked yet)
Mastery Bonuses/Ineptitude Maluses

Your first step when filling out a stat grid should be to allocate points to your basic attributes, your character's strength, agility, perception, intelligence and stamina. You can go to the mechanics page to learn more about what each of these attributes do but this guide will assume you have already done that. You'll observe that in this example table we've allocated all our points to basic attributes but when you fiill out your grid you might want to reserve some of your attribute points for Mastery which we will cover further down.

Str Agi Per Int Stm Mastery(+2 to a skill of your choice per point)Ineptitude(-2 to a skill of your choice per -point)Total
Attributes 5 3 2 2 3 0 to 3 -5 to 0 15
Taijutsu Tools Stealth Genjutsu Ninjutsu Specialization: (enter name here if unlocked)Specialization 2: (cannot be unlocked yet)
Skills (str+stm)/2 (agi+str)/2 (per+agi)/2 (int+per)/2 (stm+int)/2 (stat+stat)/2 (cannot be unlocked yet)
Mastery Bonuses/Ineptitude Maluses

Calculating your basic skills is as simple as averaging together the two attributes related to that skill, in fact the exact formulas are displayed within the grid if you are unsure. You can see our example character has a fairly balanced skill profile, with good taijutsu and tools scores and very average scores in their other categories.

Skills 4 4 2.5 2 2.5 (stat+stat)/2 (cannot be unlocked yet)
Mastery Bonuses/Ineptitude Maluses

Now you might find that the skills you end up with through this process don't quite suit the character you wanted. Maybe you wanted to specialize a little more, or you wanted to be really good at ninjutsu but terrible at genjutsu even though they are both partially derived from your intelligence score. This is where the two attribute categories we ignored earlier, Mastery and Ineptitude, come in.

Mastery is an attribute that allows us to raise any skill. Each attribute point invested in the mastery category allows us to add a bonus of +2 to any skill you want. These bonuses are marked in the third row, like so. Keep in mind that a character can only ever have 1/5th of their total attribute points invested in mastery. So with 15 points total to start with a new character can only have a maximum of 3 attribute points in it.

Str Agi Per Int Stm Mastery(+2 to a skill of your choice per point)Ineptitude(-2 to a skill of your choice per -point)Total
Attributes 5 3 2 2 3 1 -5 to 0 16
Taijutsu Tools Stealth Genjutsu Ninjutsu Specialization: (enter name here if unlocked)Specialization 2: (cannot be unlocked yet)
Skills 4 4 2.5 2 2.5 - (cannot be unlocked yet)
Mastery Bonuses/Ineptitude Maluses +2

We've decided our example character here should be good at taijutsu, so we've spent an attribute point in mastery and added the +2 bonus there, raising our taijutsu score to 6. Now if you've been paying attention you might have noticed a problem: that extra point we spent has brought us to 16, one over the 15 point limit. This is where Ineptitude comes in. Ineptitude is like a negative, or opposite version mastery, we can lower our ineptitude score below zero to free up attribute points to spend elsewhere. However, each point we take out of ineptitude like this confers a penalty of -2 to a skill of our choosing, just like an opposite version of the +2 bonus.

Str Agi Per Int Stm Mastery(+2 to a skill of your choice per point)Ineptitude(-2 to a skill of your choice per -point)Total
Attributes 5 3 2 2 3 1 -1 15
Taijutsu Tools Stealth Genjutsu Ninjutsu Specialization: (enter name here if unlocked)Specialization 2: (cannot be unlocked yet)
Skills 4 4 2.5 2 2.5 - (cannot be unlocked yet)
Mastery Bonuses/Ineptitude Maluses +2 -2

There we go, back to 15 points. Our genjutsu score was already very low so we've decided to neglect it completely and apply the penalty from our ineptitude there. This character is now very vulnerable to even basic genjutsu, but they have great taijutsu for a genin and lots of other options to fall back on as well. Now plenty of characters will be done at this stage. However anyone who wants to have particularly rare, or special techniques will have to deal with the specialization section of the Grid.

Specializations are described in greater detail on the mechanics page, so you should read that section if you intend to take one. But in short specializations are like extra skills. They cover unusual, or specialized techniques that not all shinobi will learn and utilize. Kekkei Genkai and Hiden techniques are two examples of specializations but there are some more common ones too: sensory ninjutsu or fuuinjutsu for example.

Each specialization has it's own score, just like the rest of your skills. Some specializations are derived from the same attributes as basic skills but many have their own, unique combinations. Some of the more common specializations have their attributes listed in the mechanics page, but for custom specializations or more obscure ones you will probably need to just ask a GM.

Let's adjust our example character's grid so that he can take a specialization and then give him Nintaijutsu: a specialization derived from strength and intelligence that will take advantage of his best attribute.

Str Agi Per Int Stm Mastery(+2 to a skill of your choice per point)Ineptitude(-2 to a skill of your choice per -point)Total
Attributes 4 2 2 2 2 1 -1 15
Taijutsu Tools Stealth Genjutsu Ninjutsu Specialization: NintaijutsuSpecialization 2: (cannot be unlocked yet)
Skills 3 3 2 2 2 3 (cannot be unlocked yet)
Mastery Bonuses/Ineptitude Maluses +2 -2

All Done! Now all that's left is fill out the rest of the character skeleton.

Kohaku Fujioka

Can we play now?
Kohaku

  • Team: <Unassigned>
    Rank: Genin

    Village: Hidden Sand

Personality: Bright and bubbly, Kohaku tends to come off more like the child she is than a graduated genin. If doing something she doesn't want to, her attention span is laughably short and her ability to remain still vanishes. She'd much rather be off playing than reading through books and scrolls or sitting through a lecture. Likely her only saving grace during the academy was that she considered working with her puppets a form of play.

Even before her bloody initiation into the shinobi world, she has a surprisingly dark sense of humor. Making morbid jokes and remarks. Most brush it and her fascination with death as just part and parcel of being a puppet master. Despite her beaming smiles and bright outlook, Kohaku has a bad habit of bottling up her emotions. If she's strong and doesn't cry anymore, no one would have to worry about her.

History: Born into a family of puppet masters, becoming a shinobi seemed like the obvious path for Kohaku. Even from a young age, she was playing with various (unarmed) puppets designed by her parents and older brother. They may have been little more than dolls at the time, but working on them was how she spent time with her parents. It was playtime, family time, and Kohaku loved nearly every minute of it. Her father, Toshirou, often used puppets she helped make when telling stories, manipulating the crudely made dolls with practiced finesse.

Both of Kohaku's parents had achieved the rank of jounin during their careers and were away on missions more often than not. She missed them when they were working, but it was just a part of life. Same with her brother Hikaru, though being a genin preparing for the exams he wasn't gone for as long as their parents usually were. It wouldn't be long before she could graduate from the academy and join them on their missions.

Graduation should've been a day of celebration, newly minted shinobi showing off their hard earned headbands to friends and family alike. Instead, news of the Hidden Mist's fall cast a pall over the village. War was coming. All shinobi were expected to mobilize for the new allied forces, fresh genin included. Though they would at least be spared the violence of the front lines, only helping to run supplies and set up the camps before returning home. Her teammates, Noa and Kaito, complained at the assignment, wanting to show their skills on the field as they underestimated the danger that waited.

The life of a shinobi is rarely a long one, especially with the sudden eruption of war. Her parents were assigned to the frontlines of the ill-fated attack on the Shogun's forces. Her mother, Yuzuki chose to stay behind to buy the forces time for their withdrawal from the battlefield. Kohaku overheard some of their comrades wondering if the action was brought on by the loss of Toshirou earlier on in the battle. Even the supposed safety of the camp was found to be untrue, as a surprise attack struck where many of Sand's genin had been busying themselves with setting up the camps.

Jun Sensei jumped to his team's defense, ordering the trio and any other nearby fresh genin to flee and hide. Fight only if they had to.

    They ignored him.

Noa leapt ahead, knocking away projectiles with her great fan. Kaito formed walls of earth to try and slow their advances while Kohaku's lithe hound puppet raced into the fray.

Kohaku didn't even see her puppet get smashed, only felt the sudden disconnection from her threads. Gusts of wind only serve to strengthen flames. Fueling an inferno that swept through the campground, consuming tents and unprepared shinobi alike. Uneven earthen walls do little against trained fighters, only worsening as Kaito's chakra reserves faltered. A spear found his heart.

At her sensei's renewed urging, she finally ran. Kohaku doesn't remember what happened after that, her rescuers said she'd been found inside a hollow old tree, covered in blood and soot. She didn't speak for days, not until Hikaru finally found where she was staying. Kohaku clung to her brother and cried.

The loss of their parents and friends hit both siblings hard and both reacted in different ways. Hikaru channeled his energy in caring for his sister and in his work as a shinobi. He didn't want to rely on distant relatives for help, as it'd be acknowledging his parents really were gone. Kohaku bounced back surprisingly quickly, all things considered, burying the pain behind a grin so her brother wouldn't have to worry.

Somehow, she was going to make it as a kunoichi.

Clan Info: The Fujioka are renowned puppet masters and poison experts in the Hidden Sand. Even with their poisonous blood, many go on to study a wider variety of lethal substances and ways to counter them.

Kunoichi are supposed to stick to the shadows. If you ask me, being caught up in a fight means you've already messed up. Dattebane.
Tsuyu

  • Team: <Unassigned>
    Rank: Chunin

    Village: Hidden Leaf

    Personality:
Uzumaki Tsuyu is a spirited and fiercely determined young kunoichi who embodies the resilience and legacy of her clan. At 17, she carries the pride of her Uzumaki heritage with a quiet intensity, dedicating herself to mastering the ancient sealing techniques that her family is known for. Tsuyu approaches life with a sense of duty and a sharp focus, believing that her survival and her clan’s continued existence are responsibilities she must uphold. While she isn’t the loudest in the room, her presence commands respect through her unwavering resolve and the quiet confidence she exudes when faced with a challenge.

Beneath her serious demeanor lies a deeply compassionate and protective nature, especially toward her comrades and the younger members of the village. Tsuyu has a habit of taking on the role of an older sibling to those around her, offering advice and guidance when needed. However, her protective instincts can sometimes manifest as overbearing, as she often feels responsible for others' well-being. She holds the ideals of loyalty and self-sacrifice close to her heart, a mindset inherited from stories of her ancestors' tragic demise. This can cause her to shoulder burdens alone, reluctant to ask for help or show vulnerability.

Though driven and disciplined, Tsuyu has a playful and curious side that surfaces when she’s with people she trusts. She enjoys crafting seals for non-combat purposes, using her talents to solve everyday problems in inventive ways, such as creating storage seals for her teammates or prank seals to lighten the mood. Despite her solemn outlook on her clan’s history, she believes that life should be enjoyed, and she works hard to protect the peace that allows her friends to smile. Her greatest fear is to lose those she loves, which drives her to constantly improve her skills in Fūinjutsu to ensure she can protect them when the time comes.

    History:
Uzumaki Tsuyu’s life has been shaped by war and the legacy of her clan’s tragic past. Born into the Uzumaki Clan’s small but resilient remnant in Konohagakure, she was raised on stories of her ancestors’ downfall and their mastery of Fūinjutsu. Her early life was peaceful by shinobi standards, but that peace was fleeting. By the time Tsuyu reached her teenage years, the shinobi world was once again plunged into chaos with the sudden invasion led by the enigmatic figure known only as “The Shogun.” The invasion began in the Land of Water, and the swift fall of Kirigakure sent shockwaves across the world. Like many others in the village, Tsuyu was thrown into a state of unease, knowing that it was only a matter of time before the conflict reached their doorstep.

When the allied forces of the five great nations gathered to repel the invaders, Tsuyu was among the younger shinobi sent to the front lines. As a newly minted Chūnin, she found herself tasked with supporting logistical efforts and fortifying supply lines with Fūinjutsu, her expertise in seals making her invaluable in setting up protective barriers and secure communication channels. However, the allied forces were ill-prepared for the invaders’ coordinated assault, and Tsuyu quickly found herself thrust into battle far beyond her rank and experience. The chaos and disarray of the failed defense deeply affected her, as she witnessed seasoned shinobi fall and comrades turn on each other in moments of panic and distrust. It was in this crucible of war that Tsuyu learned the harsh realities of the shinobi world and the fragility of alliances built on fear rather than trust.

During the disastrous battle in the eastern Land of Fire, Tsuyu was assigned to a defensive unit tasked with holding a critical chokepoint to buy time for the retreating allied forces. She would have been captured or killed had it not been for the intervention of a veteran Kirigakure jonin who saved her life at the expense of his own. This moment left a lasting impact on Tsuyu—she would forever carry the weight of that sacrifice and the lesson that true strength comes from unity and selflessness, not from political allegiances or fear-driven tactics.

Though the allied forces had suffered a crushing defeat, she refused to give in to despair. Instead, she focused her efforts on improving her Fūinjutsu, determined to create seals that could protect her comrades and turn the tide in future battles.

    Clan Info:
The Uzumaki Clan, renowned for their mastery of Fūinjutsu, stands as one of the most formidable families in the shinobi world's history. My version of the Uzumaki story focuses on their unparalleled sealing techniques and vast chakra reserves—abilities that ultimately led to the clan's tragic downfall. Unlike the canon version, this interpretation excludes the enhanced healing factor seen in Naruto: Shippuden, instead emphasizing their proficiency in complex seals and their exceptional stamina in battle.

Following the destruction of Uzushiogakure, a small group of Uzumaki survivors fled to Konohagakure, where they found refuge. These remnants would go on to establish a new life within the village, maintaining their clan's legacy and knowledge of Fūinjutsu. Much like the Hyūga and Uchiha clans, the Uzumaki resided in their own distinct district within the Hidden Leaf, preserving their culture and traditions while integrating into Konoha’s society. Though few in number, they remain a powerful presence, their expertise in sealing techniques highly sought after and respected throughout the shinobi world.

Minoru Minori

1736258013721.jpeg
I'm not going to stand back when there's something I could be doing.
Minoru

  • Team: <Unassigned>
    Rank: Genin

    Village: Iron Stone

Personality: Serious and earnest to a fault, Minoru is unerring in anything she chooses to do, for better or for worse. It makes her stubborn, and hard to direct, but determined and easy to follow. She has a kind streak, being taught from a young age it was her responsibility to help others. When a pair of bullies picked on one of her classmates early on, she decked both of them without even pausing her step and kept walking.

Partly because of her dedication and pride, Minoru sometimes feels like she doesn't have anyone to turn to when things are hard. She feels she has to maintain a positive and upbeat tune, and to set an example for others. Her deepest secret, other than being a samurai, is that she feels like a fish out of water and has no idea if she's doing the right thing, or even what it is she's doing at all!

History: When the army of shadows descended, Minoru seemed almost strangely excited. Her clan had always been a model among the Land of Iron, and she felt she had an obligation to help! She fantasized of helping the poor ninja under attack many times, and showing them the correctness of the samurai. She trained extra hard, being a model heiress for her clan. Sometimes she trained until the night rose, and her hands callused. She went through many blades, a bit too eager to learn the skills of her father, and amazed he could cut through even stone.

She could not, and the blacksmith asked her to please stop trying.

The day rose that Minoru finally achieved rank of samurai, even if only the lowest rank, and she asked when it was the Land of Iron would help. She was shocked when her father shook her head, and said the Land of Iron would be defending itself, but they couldn't risk another trick by the ninja. Already the samurai were a dying breed, and to leave their lands undefended against the incoming attack would be criminal. Her father then let slip a political hope that the ninja would crush eachother and let the samurai rise again. It crushed her, that was not the model samurai she was trained to be! That was not their way, to sit back and let people kill eachother!

She decided if no one else would show the ninja how it was done, she would! She snuck off in the night, towards the Land of Fire, to see how she could help.

She didn't even make it before an explosive crossbow destroyed the area Minoru was in. She didn't remember anything but the ringing of her ears, the blood in her mouth, and the blackness that overtook her.

Luckily, some Stone Medic Nin had found her. Shaking their heads, they put Minoru with the other genin, commenting how it was terrible, how genin from former Kiri couldn't catch a break... even in the Land of FIre. She kept her mouth shut for once. Minoru experienced terror from nearly dying, shaking her belief and resolve. She couldn't run back home... but she realized something she hadn't even considered... she was too weak to do anything!

She started to cry, and the Stone nin comforted her, telling her she'd be alright, that they'd take her in, that there would be a place for her, and genin didn't need to worry about the front line. Not once did she correct them... even when she saw the paperwork saying she was from Kiri... It was a convenient lie. The first lie for the little white knight. She even kept the smoke bombs they gave her, afraid of getting caught again. She even stuck around to watch some of the basic ninja skills, hating herself for learning 'tricks', but too scared to die.

Clan Info: A prominent clan among the Land of Iron, the Minori clan is famed for their dojutsu and prowess with a sword. It's thought to have been a mutation of the sharingan many years ago that had fallen into the Land of Iron, but since then the Minori have proudly served their lands. They serve as model samurais and are extremely strict as a clan as far as appearances and propiety.

Tachiagari Kagayaku

1736265625847.png
I'll support you, so don't look back.
Tachiagari Kagayaku

  • Team: <Unassigned>
    Rank: Chunin
    Village: Iwagakure

    Personality:

Most shinobi are cocky or arrogant; Tachiagari is very different from the typical ninja. He is self-conscious and more often than not, wears a mask to hide whatever weak emotion he may be feeling. Having grown up in a time of peace, Tachiagari is greatly opposed to the use of violence and recent events have made him long for a more peaceful end to the ongoing conflict. Because of these beliefs Tachiagari borders on being a pacifist and unless the lives of those he cares for are on the line he prefers to remain far from combat in a supporting role.

Deep down, Tachiagari is a warm, kind soul. He is overly generous with others and is always willing to assist someone. When it comes to interacting with others, the young shinobi is very outgoing. Around friends or familiar faces, Tachiagari is very relaxed; a warm presence who laughs a lot. He is easy to be around and has a welcoming aura. It is his need for outside strength and constant interaction that has made him so sociable.

    History:

The war took a lot, from a lot of people, the Kagayaku clan was no exception. They lost many of their clansmen leaving mostly the elderly and young children. The shinobi who returned from the fighting were barely alive and the best conditions were lost limbs. Yuki, Tachiagari's mother, was among those who lost body parts to the initial attack. Somewhere on that vast battlefield, both of her arms were missing their body and decaying. Her husband, Taka, not only went blind, but had shrapnel in his body. The debris couldn't be removed on the battlefield without killing him, but by the time the dust settled and medical ninja arrived on the scene, he was gone. This heartache was the catalyst that caused Tachiagari to join the war effort.

As a baby Tachiagari was quite troublesome.. They expected as much though, he was a member of the Kagayaku clan after all and they were known for being an energetic and lively bunch. It due in part to their role as farmers and healers which gave them a unique outlook on life and opened their eyes to how brief it was. So they had a philosophy of celebrating even the small events and living it up. This meant that Tachiagari grew up around parties, festivals, and endless celebrations with people who had hearts bigger than their heads. As was tradition the young Tachiagari participated in the farm work around the clan compound. What should have been work became more like playtime when he followed his father and grandfather around the crops and spent time learning about the many different plants and all the livestock. The Kagayaku clan's Mud Release made them perfect for the role of farmers, but they also specialized in medicine.

From a young age Tachi showed an interest in the healing arts, but when he got older and his family found him sitting in on lectures and caught him watching surgeries, they decided it was time to help him get involved. Since he wasn't a genin yet Yuki started by teaching Tachiagari basic anatomy and by the time he'd graduated from the academy he was sharpening his skills with a scalpel. It was partially thanks to this skill that many overlooked what could only be described as an aversion to confrontation which Tachiagari's teachers had taken notice of. It did raise question on how he'd fair as a shinobi, but his ties to a medical clan assured the doubters that his path was set already. After graduation, because he was still young, most his patients were usually animals around the farm and that was how he sharpened his skills with mundane medicine.

As the age of peace carried on, Tachi progressed through his training and as a genin he treated his first human patient while out on a mission with his squad. The minor wounds left a major impact in his life as never before had he felt such joy or pride. He became a regular at the Kagayaku clinic when not on missions and this gave him firsthand experience. However reports from his squad leader detailed Tachi's unwillingness to engage in combat without the threat of a loss of life. This behavior resulted in his physical capabilities falling behind that of his teammates and even that of the other genin, but his sensei held out faith that things might change. To that end she trained Tachi in a defensive style that would allow him to join the fight even if only to protect and not to harm. Progressing with the fighting style was a prerequisite that had to be completed for Tachiagari to be permitted to participate in the Chunin Exams.

Determined to become a chunin he did as his sensei advised and trained hard day in and day out. It was thanks to this unique fighting style that Tachiagari was able to wear down his opponents and pass the exams. As a chunin he lent his medical knowledge to many teams and spent his free time at the Iwagakure hospital where he was set to apprentice under one of their medical shinobi. However that plan changed when the war started and Kirigakure fell.

When his parents left he feared the worst and the war made those fears a reality when only his mother came back home. Tachiagari struggled to believe that his father was truly dead and when the next wave of shinobi were being sent to join the fight he left with them hoping to find Taka. The horrors of war were not something that he was prepared for and finding his father's corpse shattered him. Violence had taken all those lives, but Tachiagari vowed that he'd save as many lives as he could, even if it meant he'd be the last one to leave the battlefield.

Clan Info: The Kagayaku clan are farmers and healers in Iwagakure.

Welp T.I.K. bru, T.I.K…
Kaen Haiden

  • Team: <Unassigned>
    Rank: Genin

    Village: Kusagakure

    Personality:
Kaen Haiden is the epitome of a survivor with a sharp tongue and a cynical outlook to match. Growing up in the chaos and mediocrity of Kusagakure has shaped him into someone who refuses to take life too seriously—mostly because if he did, the weight of it all might just crush him. He’s quick-witted and sarcastic, using humor as a shield against the grim reality he was born into. Despite his jaded exterior, Kaen isn’t entirely devoid of hope; he clings to the idea of beating the odds, even if he thinks it’s a long shot. Practical to a fault, he’s not the type to throw himself into a losing fight or indulge in heroics, but he has a sly way of staying one step ahead of trouble.
Beneath his grumbling and dark humor lies an undeniable resourcefulness. Kaen knows how to make the best of bad situations, whether it’s scraping together ninjutsu knowledge from ancient scrolls or improvising his way out of a battlefield. He values self-preservation but also has an unspoken loyalty to those who prove themselves competent—rare as that might be in Kusa. While he might call himself a pessimist, deep down he’s a realist with just enough stubborn determination to chase a dream others might deem impossible: survival.

    History:
Being born in one of the minor villages is a fate no ninja wishes on even his worst enemies—especially not in Kusagakure. The education? Trash. The resources? Barely enough to scrape by, unless you count “whatever the clans scrap together” as a sustainable system. Contracts? Forget about it. The big villages swoop in with their shiny headbands and rock-bottom prices, leaving us to fight over whatever shit-paying missions no one else wants. Escort a merchant who smells like boiled cabbage? Sure. Babysit a daimyo’s bratty kid? Why not. Risk your life for pocket change? Welcome to the club.
And don’t even get me started on war. If the big boys decide to start swinging their dicks around, your house is either getting flattened, flooded, set on fire, or turned into some twisted memorial for a fight nobody will even remember. Oh, you think you’re safe because the war’s “thousands of miles away”? Cute. The second the village can’t afford to defend itself (so, always), you’re packed up and shipped out to some ass-backwards post in the middle of nowhere, squaring off against some overpowered bastard from one of the Big Five. Made it to genin? Congratulations, you’re now cannon fodder with a forehead protector.

Life sucks so hard here that we’ve even got our own motto for it: T.I.K. Anytime something goes wrong—and trust me, it always does—we just throw our hands up and mutter, “This is Kusa.” Roof caved in from last week’s typhoon? T.I.K. Lost three teammates because the client didn’t mention the mission was a death trap? T.I.K. Ate something green that may or may not have been alive? You guessed it. T.I.K.

This village? It’s a punchline, a bad joke nobody’s laughing at. Now guess which poor son of a bitch ended up being born here.

Don’t need to guess, - it’s me, I’m that poor son of a bitch.

Name’s Kaen Haiden, proud (ha) member of Kusagakure, a.k.a. the glorified battle royale of the shinobi world. Born into one of the very few clans dumb enough to actually stick around in this glorified death trap. Now, you’d think that being from a clan would at least give me something, right? Like, “Oh wow, Kaen, you must be loaded, respected, maybe you even have a harem of babes fawning over you?”

    Yeah, no. Fuck no.

For reasons that make no goddamn sense, my clan decided it would be hilarious to see how fast they could wipe themselves off the face of the earth. Every time Kusa stumbles into some war it has no business being in—which is every war ever—my clan's like, “Let’s fucking get ‘em, boys!” and hurls itself headfirst into the meat grinder. It’s like they’ve got a death wish, or maybe they’re just lemmings in disguise. Either way, the family motto might as well be, “You’re a little bitch if you make it to 25.”

And where does that leave me? The last in line, with some ancient family jutsu nobody remembers how to use properly, a village that barely gives a shit, and a front-row seat to the slow-motion car crash that is Kusa. T.I.K., am I right?

Now, I get it. Shit seems bleak. And you’d be absolutely right. I mean, Christ, when I was born, my parents didn’t even get a chance to see me cry before they got straight-up eviscerated. Like, handed me off to the nurse, said “take care of him,” and bam—next second, red mist. It wasn’t even some grand sacrifice or noble mission; no, it was just a classic Kusa special: wrong place, wrong time, and some dipshit from another village decided to blow the whole hospital to hell.

But, believe it or not, there’s technically a way out of this hellhole. Shinobi work.

Now, hold on a second, I can hear you already: “Didn’t you just say that everyone in your clan got themselves killed and the pay is dogshit?” And yeah, I did. I absolutely did. But there’s one tiny little quirk about Kusa that stands out from the rest of this dumpster fire:

    The retirement benefits.

See, here’s the thing—Kusa hasn’t actually had a ninja retire in, like, ever. Not once. But thanks to some arcane bylaw buried in the village’s legal crap, all the money that gets funneled into the retirement fund over the years doesn’t get touched. It just sits there, accumulating like some kind of sad jackpot nobody lives long enough to claim.

And here’s the kicker: if, by some miracle, you manage to make it to retirement age without getting turned into ash, diced into ninja sushi, or becoming an “in loving memory” photo, you get the whole damn fund. Proportionally distributed, sure, but at that point, who cares? That’s free money just sitting there, waiting for some poor sucker to outlive the odds.

It’s like the world's deadliest lottery. And guess what? I’m buying a ticket.

And here I go, fresh out of whatever the hell Kusa calls an “academy.” Which, let me tell you, was basically a six-week crash course in “try not to die.” The curriculum? Top-notch. Day one: “Here’s a pointy metal thing.” Day two: “Here’s how to throw said pointy metal thing.” Day three and beyond: “If you see a guy who can shoot fire, teleport, or otherwise defy the laws of physics, run. Pray. You’re probably already dead.”

That’s it. That’s the entire education system. No strategy, no teamwork drills, no “how to not explode on the battlefield” class. Just a big ol’ “good luck, kid,” and a slap on the back as they toss you into the meat grinder.

The only saving grace I had was the clan’s personal library—sealed away deep underground, untouched by war, looters, or the general shitshow that is Kusa (shoutout to my ancestors for that one). Thanks to those dusty scrolls, I managed to scrape together a halfway decent understanding of ninjutsu.

Honestly, if I hadn’t seen what kids from the real villages could do, I might’ve even thought I was pretty damn good. I mean, I was flipping through hand signs, molding chakra, and actually pulling off some legit moves. Felt like a prodigy.

Then I saw some kid from Konoha make shadows move. Shadows. Like, how the hell do you even fight a guy who can choke you out with your own silhouette? That’s when it hit me—my "pretty good" was their "barely trying."

So yeah, thanks, ancestors, for the library. But next time, maybe leave me some OP family jutsu so I’m not just playing catch-up with literal shadow puppets.

You wanna know how I know that?

Well, like I was saying, just graduated from ninja bootcamp—fresh meat. Got myself a slightly rusty headband, a half-hearted pat on the back, and a big ol’ “Congrats, kiddo.” Then, before I could even celebrate surviving the academy, I was shipped off to fucking Kirigakure.

    T.I.K.

Apparently, the Mist got invaded by some weird shit—don’t ask me what, because nobody bothered to tell me. Guess whoever claimed Kusa’s good at “intelligence gathering” was running the biggest scam in the shinobi world. For all I know, it could’ve been a rogue swordsman, a giant fish demon, or someone’s pissed-off grandma.

All I knew was that the second I stepped off the boat, it was chaos. Screaming people, buildings on fire, and me standing there like, “What the hell did I just sign up for?” But hey, welcome to Kusa’s motto: get sent in blind, and pray you don’t die before you figure out what the hell’s going on.

Unfortunately for the three other poor bastards sent with me as a “team,” they didn’t quite catch that second part of the motto. I kid you not—not even ten seconds in—squish. The lot of them got turned into a fine paste.

One of them was supposed to be our “Jonin” mentor, too. Yeah, apparently the geniuses in charge decided to copy Konoha’s team model in recent years, because that’s what’s gonna save Kusa. Spoiler: it’s not. The guy didn’t even get to finish his motivational speech.

“Stick close to me and you’ll—”

And then boom—pate. Just gone. Like he was never even there. All I could think was, “So much for Jonin-level protection.”

Honestly, we need some serious quality control on who we let wear the Jonin flak jacket. Maybe start with: Can they survive more than ten seconds in a combat zone? Just a thought.

Anyway, I stood there for a second, just long enough to fully process the human smoothie that used to be my “team,” and then—well, let’s just say breakfast didn’t stay down. Right there on the floor, courtesy of my stomach.

After that, I did the only logical thing any sane person would do: I booked it. No heroics, no last stand, just full-on sprinting with the rest of the smart people who realized, “Yeah, this isn’t worth dying for.”

Kusa might be trash, but it’s not die-on-sight-for-no-reason trash. Well, most of the time.

Anyway, the plan still stands: I’m getting that goddamn retirement fund. That’s the dream, right? Outlive the bullshit, cash in, and maybe move somewhere that doesn’t smell like desperation and burnt grass.

But who am I kidding? I’m probably gonna bite it in this massive fuck-off war like everyone else. That’s just how it goes here.

    T.I. Fucking K. man…

    Clan Info:
The Haiden Clan is an ancient lineage, one of the founding clans that helped establish Kusagakure during the tumultuous era of the First Kages. In their prime, they were renowned for producing some of the few genuinely dangerous Kusa nin, warriors whose names carried weight even beyond the borders of the Hidden Grass. This reputation stemmed primarily from their kekkai hiden techniques, the infamous “Karyūso Jutsus.” These jutsus, a volatile combination of fire and wind chakra, could ignite entire fields of grass into blazing infernos, transforming battlefields into scorched wastelands. While devastatingly effective, these techniques were notoriously difficult to control, often leaving destruction indiscriminately in their wake.

The Scorchgrass Jutsus weren’t just tools of war; they symbolized the clan’s philosophy of complete dedication, willing to destroy everything to ensure victory. Over time, however, the Haiden Clan’s numbers dwindled as their destructive techniques and seemingly suicidal fighting tendencies often placed them on the frontlines of hopeless battles. Today, the clan is a shadow of its former self, with their once-feared techniques relegated to legend, buried within their underground archives. Yet, their name still carries an air of danger and unpredictability, much like the wildfires they once commanded.

Ago Aburame

  • Team: <Unassigned>
    Rank: Genin

    Village: Konoha

Personality: Ago Aburame is by most if not all accounts a perfectly normal young lady with absolutely nothing truely outstanding about him. She is courteous, tidy, sweet and caring and in no way shape or form a troublemaker of any kind. A delightfully charming intellect paired with a winning smile that can win over just about anyone who have the privilege of working with and alongside her.

She is an outright angel and star of the show with grades that are phenominal and the best in the class bar none! If all students could be like her the world would be a better place indeed.

Her bugs are her babies, and most other bugs too. All bugs really.
Ago Aburame is a menace who cannot and will not simply leave things alone. There is not a singular nerve she doesn't pluck with well practiced hands like playing a koto whos music is my own screams of torment. Hiding bugs in hair, placing frogs down her squadmate's shirts, creating pitfall traps with stunning swiftness, these are but a few of the many disturbances this little demon has caused. And the list grows by the day!!

Everyday I see her with that shit eatting grin that tells tale of mischief that is only just waiting to be found!

I humbly request a strict reprimand of the young woman by proper officials and true punishment to set her straight once return to Konoha after the united front, she has already cause a great deal of disturbances and no less than three soiled jumpsuits.

    - Jonin Instructor __________

History: From birth to her current years she has always been full of laughter. And insects but really the insects are a source of it for her too. Pranks and jokes were her bread and butter as she grew and it was all thanks to her father that she came out this way in truth. For those who know, and knew, the man he was a trickster and a sneak for all his life and it only makes sense that his daughter would end up a little shitheel as well.

A menace, through and through, it was not enough to torment her friends, it seemed as if nobody was beyond her scope of hijinx. If there was a wall, she had colored a butt on it. If there was a fancy statue? She gave it a new moustache. A salt shaker? Replaced with sugar. Sugar? Flour. Pepper? She liked pepper so she left that alone. Her whims were always never destructive, for a good prank was never truely so. A good prank is one that one can easily ammend! Confuse! Don't abuse!

but, of course, this has not made her very popular with those who dislike such things... Always told to grow up and behave herself... These people were just so boring... And there was alot of boring people during this who united front thing. Everyone was so scared and at each other's throat she barely could make a fly paper trap without somebody talking to her like she was going to kill them all!

Turns out she didn't need to do that, now that the Shadow were on them... Stiff upper lip, you can cry for those we lost later! Her dad always told her that "Don't cry if you can still fix it." After all. So shes not gonna cry. Not yet.

Not till she has the bastard's head.

Clan Info: Aburame, They are the weird chakra insect people. You know em, you love em, you are terrified of em.
