The Starving Monster


1st Person POV:


Must feed. Must eat. Three people stood there. Two male. One female. Hungry. Need food. Must kill. I run after them. They fight back. They fail. They die. They Screaming loudly Starving. Must eat. I eat corpses. I still hungry. Must eat more. I'm coming for more. I scream loudly. Food will hear. Food been warned. Food will be mine. I still hungry. I come after food. Hunger will be quenched. Yum.

Hol Horse

Hol Horse tipped his hat up a bit to see the girl who was talking to him.  'Penny Polendina", eh?  He remembered eating something in Italy called a Polendina once.  It was alright he supposed, but he remembered the waiter was a jerk so the experience wasn't all to good for him.  She was pretty cute, looked to young for him though so he'd ease it on the charm a bit.  "Hello, Miss Polendina, or can I call you Penny?  I'm pleased to make the acquaintance of a beautiful, young girl such as yourself."  Was that more or less charming than usual?  Ah whatever, a compliment's a compliment, he thought to himself.  Her greeting eased him up a bit, if she could get along with this creepy guy then he supposed he could too.


Hol Horse rubbed his chin in false contemplation, as if he was mulling over the idea of teaming up with them.  "Hmm, well, I suppose it'd be cruel to leave you two helpless souls to fend for yourselves.  If you really want me to join you, I suppose I could be your bodyguard,"  He gave them both a wide, toothy smile as he tipped his hat upward, "And because I'm such a nice guy, I won't charge you either!  My mama once told me that being in good company is it's own reward!"  He gave a hearty laugh, which lasted long enough that it might've been unsettling for the other two to listen to, so he cleared his throat awkwardly when he had finished.  Then he had heard the screeching not too far off in the distance.  He scanned the surroundings and took out his Emperor, that certainly didn't sound like any animal he's ever heard.  He wasn't too sure how good these two would be in a fight, but if he could rely on them then whatever's heading their way shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Diego snickered at Rohan's comment, this wasn't even close to being the strangest thing he's seen.  Then again, this was probably the same for him.  He still had a nagging feeling that there was more to him than meets the eye, could he be a stand user, he thought to himself.  "I guess that is strange, huh?  Whatever, I like the sound of your idea so let's just go with that.  Besides, maybe if we follow this road it'll lead us to a town or to someone who knows what the hell's going on here."  As they walked along the side of the road, Diego turned his head to the oddly dressed kid with a curious look.  "So, what made you get into making comics?  Personally, I think picture books are for little kids, but I suppose it makes you enough money to live, huh?"

"Thank you!" Penny cheerfully smiled at Hol Horse's compliment, who seemed to be a bit charming. Truth be told, she didn't know any other adult men other than General Ironwood, so she was quite nervous. "It would be appreciated!" Penny said to Hol's kind offer, the thought of having a young man she didn't know protect her sounds pretty intriguing...At least, from what she read from the Fairy Tales Ironwood used to read to her. Penny was equipped with blades, and Keeper was merely a child, but she didn't know what  Hol had, which made her wonder how will he protect them without a weapon. While pondering that question, Penny heard growling nearby, which made her turn to direction of the growling. "...Something's nearby." Penny said with caution, putting her on guard in case something attacked them

"I couldn't care less about money." Rohan said as they begun to walk on the road, with his pen tapping on his crossed elbow. "I just want to be read. My Passion for Manga allowed me to become successful..." He sighed as he saw a few people ahead of them. There were three people, a young girl of orange hair and a pink ribbon, a grey skinned man with some sort of rope hanging on his neck, and a cowboy. Odd combination, but maybe they know some answers. However, he then heard some growling, causing him to look around him for the source of the sound. "Did you hear that?"

Hol Horse narrowed his eyes and looked around, quieting his own breathing so he could hear better.  "Miss Penny, stay close to us, Keeper and I can handle whatever's coming."  His serious expression turned to one of worry, boy was he glad they couldn't see his face with his back turned to them.  "You can handle yourself in a fight, right big guy?"  Whatever creature made that sound, it was certainly dangerous, and if Keeper couldn't help him fight it off than they were in serious trouble.  No, if Keeper was as weak as he was suspecting, than it would just be them who were in trouble.  Hol Horse could just run in the opposite direction of the beast and give them the best of luck.


Was that really the right thing to do though?  Running away from a losing battle wasn't new to Hol Horse, and he had definitely abandoned comrades before when things had turned sour, but this time was different.  Penny couldn't be any younger than your average teenager, if he left her here with big, bad and ugly there'd be no way she'd survive.  This whole ordeal was giving him a bad feeling in his stomach, like when you eat too many gassy foods and the next bathroom is 5km away.  Was Hol Horse really willing to risk his life for these two strangers?  He literally just met them, he knew nothing about them, what did it matter to them if they died?  The cowardly cowboy's breathing returned to it's normal pace and then quickened as he worried about which choice would be the right one.

Diego rolled his eyes in disbelief, how naïve was this Rohan guy?  "How could you not care about money, without it you'd be nothing.  If it wasn't for money and the things I had to do to get it I wouldn't have gotten to be the great horse rider I am today."  With two firm hands, he readjusted his headgear, getting more than slightly annoyed at Rohan's remark.  "If you had grown up poor like me, not a penny to your name to get a decent meal with some decent cutlery, you'd probably think differently.  I don't race horses because I enjoy it or because I'm good at it, I race because it's the only thing that's kept food on my plate and a roof over my head."


Diego stopped as he heard the screaming of something off in the distance, but quickly approaching.  The sound sent chills up his spine and stopped him in his tracks.  Scary Monsters enhanced all his senses, so he most likely heard it before Rohan who was still briskly walking ahead of him.  He heard Rohan ask him if he heard it, to which he replied, "Yeah, before you did actually.   Whatever it is it sounds big, I think we need to keep going, just remember to stay on your toes."  Diego saw the trio ahead of him and thought to wave them down, but quickly decided against it.  Doing that would just draw attention to the two of them, and that was probably the last thing they wanted.

Something just... popped into his mind. "Get down!" Izuru said. Izuru hid in the bushes and (maybe) the group.


He used his analyst power and, he was starving. Wants food. Wants corpses. "Eh. Lame." Izuru stated.

Keeper chuckled at the cowboys question, He walked up to the cowboy so he was right beside him then answered him "Mr. Horse, i think you will see soon enough, that i am quite capable in a fight, Ms. Polendina I would heed Hol's advice, no need for you to endanger yourself, when you have to perfectly good fools to do it for you" Coins began appearing around Keeper's hands, he closed his eyes and began focusing in on the creature's sins. He could sense gluttony within the beast, A large mass of it and unlike Hol Horse, the creature seemed to lack control over itself. This caused Keeper to grin as he reopened his eyes and began firing a barrage of coins (not unlike that of a shotgun) towards the creature @TrueBananaz @Thepotatogod

It wasn't possible to tell how low he was out, but the Wanderer was finally awake. The first thing he saw was Dogmeat's large and furry face poking down at him, no doubt worried about his friend. He smiled. The Wanderer pushed himself off the ground. It was very painful, but he'll probably be fine.


Taking a glance around, however, the Wanderer quickly realized that something was off. There were grass and trees. Living, lush, and non-irradiated ones. The Wanderer exhaled in admiration. He had only seen such a picturesque scene in the old and often ruined paintings he came across in the wasteland. Is this heaven, is he dead? He pondered briefly for a moment, noticing the wonderfully blue sky as well.


An energetic bark from Dogmeat broke the silence, however. The Wanderer knelt down besides his companion, who was now desperately trying to express his happiness and relief through body languages. And the Wanderer understood aswell. He gave Dogmeat a good pat on the head.


Now's time to get to buisness. But where exactly are they? This is certainly not the wasteland anymore. There just seems to be forests all around. The Wanderer would never find anything among this ocean of trees. But he knew someone who could.


"Try to find something, boy. Anything important or useful." He gave Dogmeat a short and concise command, and the mutt immediately jogged off searching. The Wanderer always wondered how Dogmeat could possibly understand him. Maybe he was trained, or maybe he's just that clever.


A few minutes' walk later, he saw a clearing ahead. It was a road. And in rather prestine condition as well. Such a new road must lead to something, most likely the civilization that built it. The Wanderer decided that this was about his only option as of now, and started to make his way down the road. Dogmeat, meanwhile, was caught up in a bit of a victory dance and only broke out of it to catch up to his friend. "Good boy!"
 
Homura glanced at Leon with worry. She wasn't unaffected by the explosion, she still had ringing in her ears but Leon seemed to... nullify most of it. If that could have been called nullifying it. "Leon-san!" She called. It wasn't any use. The cat-boy had already kneeled over. She had barely known him... and yet... Homura looked at Kosaku with pure rage. Flying into a fury, Homura readied herself to attack and only stopped when Kosaku kneeled over on his own. What...? 


It could have been a trap, it could have easily been a trap. But from what she's seen, Kosaku was confident that he would be able to kill the two of them with ease. Why put on this charade? Homura kept her guns trained on him until she heard a blood curdling noise. If she had to akin something to it, Homura would say that it was the otherworldly siren of a Witch's howl. Not like any normal animal, but rather with a clear warbling underneath it. "Are you doing this, Kosaku?!" She demanded but still she somehow doubted it.


Lead by instinct, her arm moved towards the forest and, without realising it, used her body to block the path from the unconscious Leon. He might have been strong, Homura didn't know, but as he was, he was just a burden. Despite that, she couldn't leave him. They had to get out of there soon, but they couldn't run until Homura knew what had caused them to be drawn back.


Though, if she were to kill Kosaku now, then he wouldn't be able to hold them any longer. Homura's hard eyes roamed over Kosaku's face. He was just a monster, after all. The world could always do with one less monster. But something was holding her back. She remembered a time when she was completely focused on her goal with no other thought in her mind. It seemed as though she's changed. It wasn't like she thought Kosaku could be saved. It was precisely the opposite, to be honest. 


What she needed was an escape, but she couldn't until she found a way around Kosaku. Homura was lead into a standstill. A place where she couldn't afford to be, with an unknown danger closing in.

     Suddenly, a shrill shriek resounded through the forest. Satori knew from experience that this was no human's scream. Some sort of creature was out in the distance, and it was most likely hunting for humans. She watched the surprised young girl run over to the boy and instinctively stand nearby to protect him. Admittedly, she believed the scene to be rather touching. However, why was she not trying to run? Satori had not seen this girl fight yet, but she believed the girl must be quite confident if her staring down a murderer was any indication. 


     "Perhaps...then I would be welcomed," she didn't need to complete her thoughts to know the best course of action. At once, she faded the killer's memory of his encounter with the girl and boy away from his psyche and retreated from his mind, having seen enough already. He would awake rather quickly with enough time to escape the coming danger, although Satori believed the man might have some chance of fighting back against the supposed beast.


     Satori reached once again to another mind—the girl's. 


     "Carry your friend and escape," she advised the girl. "Danger will soon be upon you."

The Wanderer and Dogmeat walked on. It must've been an hour or even more since they first found the road. So far their journey was in vain as nothing of any interest was encountered. But out of seemingly nowhere suddenly came an unsettling snarl. The two stopped dead in their tracks, diverting all attention to the sound. 


That is not good. The first reaction the sound would inflict on any human being was fear; fear that some sort of abomination would charge out of the woods and straight towards them. The Wanderer has had a fair share of horror, but this one was...different. It reminded him most of the terrifying roar of a Deathclaw, something even he would think twice about trifling with. Yet it was different in away he can't seem to grasp.


"See if you can track down that sound, boy!" Gesturing ahead, he barked out a short, stern order like the stereotypical drill sergeant. This was serious, and he wanted his companion to understand that from the tone of his voice. Dogmeat returned a reassuring, I-got-this bark, and ran off into the woods. 
 
At this point, Homura didn't know what to do. She should just kill him, right? It would be no different than killing a Wraith; it was killing pure evil. So why did she hesitate?


It was then she heard a voice. Telepathy, it sounded like. It reached her head instead of her ears. Homura remembered and knew the feeling of it from her time spent with Kyubey. She took a moment to glance around for the source. It sounded female instead of the childlike unisex of her feline companion. Escape? Hadn't she already tried that? What would make this time different? Was this coming from the same creature that screamed? If that was the case, how did Homura know that it wasn't a trap?

Veronica stood in the Institute, ready to relay back to the surface. As the relay starts to relay, the power failed, it did manage to teleport her away. However, she ended somewhere completely different than her destination.


As she looks around, it didn't look like she was in Boston. In the distance was a forest, a forest with trees that looked like they weren't affected by the bombs. She also saw a road, a rather maintained one. Veronica had not seen the world like this since the bombs were dropped and she went to Vault 111. She starts to walk over the road for quite some time. After a long time, she did notice a man with clothing that awfully reminded her of a jumpsuit. She also notices a dog running into the woods away from the man. She walks cautiously towards the man, perhaps he was a Vault dweller, perhaps from Vault 81, she wasn't able to see much more detail of his clothing. So she could only make guesses for now. Yet remaining cautious in case this man was a hostile. While she did wear T-60 power armor, it didn't make her invincible. She took her laser rifle in her hand to be sure, but didn't aim yet at the man.


She did hear a snarl from somewhere close, she didn't like it at all. It reminded her of the roar of a deathclaw. If that man was going there, he would probably die. It was foolish to go one-on-one with a deathclaw unless you knew how to do that.


As she got closer, she notices he follows the dog. She decides to follow him. Now she notices he is wearing a Vault jumpsuit. Muttering "A Vault dweller? What is he doing here?"

(She does have fusion cores with her, but in limited numbers. At some point she'll have to scuttle/abandon the armor.


Also, I'll change it since I didn't notice he did went into the woods. Perhaps she follows him?)
 
     A feeling of confusion was scrambling the girl's rationality. She was unsure who was conversing with her, and for good reason. She wasn't quite sure what to trust—even her own feelings were bringing her uncertainty. Satori "spoke" once more, hoping to gain the girl's trust without revealing herself.


     "I am no enemy; you must believe me. That creature and I are not the same being. Take your friend and flee from the source of that noise. I will be your guide..." she thought, hoping to persuade the young girl.

Leon felt his consciousness begin to drift, fighting the urge to fall into the darkness of sleep. For all of his effort he could feel himself slowly failing. As his eyes slowly began to shut a sound pulled him back to his new reality. It was faint, but multiple individuals were screaming. That in itself was troubling enough, but what followed was even more concerning. Some sort of creature let out an indescribable roar. Perhaps some sort of victory cry over whoever the poor victims of that things aggression were. As he slowly shifted himself back onto his stomach a shadow had cast itself over his body, gritting his teeth as he prepared for another blow from his attacker.

"I won't let you win," Leon growled, his voice barely as he pressed his knees against the soil. The time he spent in this position was unclear but he couldn't allow things to continue as they were. Throwing his free hand to the ground he managed to raise the upper half of his body with a groan. Everything was still blurred. His head pounded. Everything hurt. This man who from his own perspective had attacked him for absolutely no reason had the upper hand in every manner. None of that mattered now though. All he needed was one chance. One good strike to blow this despicable person apart for good. The boy's thirst for vengeance empowering him to push on he fumbled in opening his spell book once again. Struggling to turn toward the unknown figure, he froze up at the sight Homura standing beside him with her weapons drawn in an act of protection. Biting his lower lip he felt the tears begin to fill his eyes further for a brief moment before shutting them in a weak effort to hide his current state.

"I don't want your help," he objected, reaching to wipe his eyes with the sleeve of his jacket. Rather than clearing them he inadvertently smeared the remains of his latest spell across his face, leaving a black smudge that at least served to help cover the sight of his own injuries to a minimal degree. His pride was screaming at him to make her leave, but deep in his heart he was terrified over what would happen next. He couldn't accept the thought of anyone else being injured for his sake. After all of his adventures he felt he was better than that. He had to be better than that. Glancing over toward the direction which Homura had one of her firearms pointed, he spotted the vibrantly colored outline of Kira's suit now on the ground. Had she already defeated him? There was no room for error now. Preparing to cast another spell Leon attempted to raise the tome only to drop it on the ground with a thud as a sharp pain ran through his shoulder.

Ignoring the voice in her head for now but not completely disregarding it, Homura focused her attention on her companion. She looked over at the weak Leon coldly. "You should just leave it to me. You're already injured. What good can you do now?" She said bluntly, almost savagely. In her mind, it was for his own good. By doing this, Leon was risking further injury while Homura only had some ringing in her ears. She was ready, she could fight. Leon couldn't. He should just remain where he was so that Homura could finish him off. If he wanted to repay the favor, he could do it later. If he hated her for it, then fine, she could deal with his hate. She's dealt with her friends hating her before. I don't want your help? Leon would die on his own as he was now.


She looked annoyed when he dropped his book and seemed pain. They needed to leave, her previous thoughts repeated and she glanced back at the collapsed Kosaku. If only she could figure out what he did... Homura went over to the large man and stomped on his chest. "Wake up." Homura knew she was taking a risk but it had to be done.

A cough escaped as he felt a sudden blunt pain on his chest.  Kira opened his weary eyes to see a girl with her foot stamped against him, if he had the normal thoughts of men his age this might have attracted him, but it only gave him questions that needed answering.  The first matter at hand was why she had him restrained in such a way.  "What do you think you're doing, little girl?"  He asked with a calm, emotionless voice.  He had half a mind to use Killer Queen to make her remove her foot, but she didn't know him or his true identity yet, so it would prove unnecessary and would only attract attention to himself.  His head was beating with a sense of pain whenever he tried to think about how this might've happened, as if there was a gap in his memory that wouldn't let him remember.  "It's very rude and unsightly of a girl your age to have your foot on a grown man's chest, so I'd kindly ask you to remove it, for the sake of both of our reputations."

Homura blinked at him. What was he going on about? Was this a tease? No, something didn't seem to be right. Why wasn't he attacking her, glaring or saying something about murdering her? Was he just pretending? The look in his eyes, though... It was as if Kosaku truly didn't recognize her. She needed to test this, otherwise Homura wouldn't accept it. "What's your name?" He couldn't have forgotten, could he? Homura just needed to make sure, at the very least.
