DONNY YANG
After speaking to Azuza, Donny headed back to the dorms on his own. Not much for him to do since he isn't allowed off school campus without an escort. Now that he thinks about it, neither is Azuza, but he doubts that would stop her anyways. Still Donny wasn't interested in getting into any more trouble so he just went back to his dorm. He went to his room, putting away his school things, changing into something more casual, and laying down in his bed. Today was emotionally draining and he really needed to just let loose, so he booted up his VR headset and went about playing GEARS for a while. He wasn't really that into the game, but the sort of monotony helped Donny zone out of his semi-depressive state enough that by the time he decided to stop playing, he wasn't feeling so bad. He was feeling hungry however.
Fortunately while Donny wasn't allowed to leave the campus, he was still able to get groceries via online shopping. A good thing too, because Donny was part of an online promotion where he could buy fresh produce every day at a discount, however it would only be like that if he keeps using it. It's like doing his dailies but with dinner. So Donny ordered some groceries online, and to replenish the groceries he'll be using today. Before he left last night, he had ordered some fresh eel, and was planning on using it. He had a whole bunch of the stuff for himself and anyone else who wanted to eat any, so Donny heads down stairs to get started. First he would need to make rice: fresh hot rice would be best. He brought his own long-grain jasmine rice from his room, and even put a charcoal briquet inside of the rice cooker after Donny had poured and cleaned the rice.
Next was preparing the sauce. He had some sake mirin which she combined together into a sauce pan and brought it to boil. He would have to do this about three times, as he's making a lot of sauce and adding too much of both will only dilute the flavor even if he's making it in bulk. Next he added the sugar, carefully stirring until the sugar dissolves. Next was the soy sauce, which cooled down the mix enough that Donny needed to bring the mixture to boil again. He had to be careful though: too long or too hot and it'll burn the sauce. Donny watched it carefully until it reached the right temperature, then he killed the heat and covered it with a lid. He'll let it simmer on it's own for now as he prepared to grill the eel itself.
Ordinarily one grills eels over hot coals, however Donny wasn't sure if the school would allow that, so he simply settled for stove-top grilling. He at least had something for that, so he preheated the grill while he butterflied the unagi with knives. Since he was alone in the kitchen, Donny wasn't afraid to let his tentacles out to help him do his work faster, though he still maintained his human form since he couldn't know if or when someone would come in. Once the grill was at the optimal heat, Donny would grill the eel, first with the skin down. He set the heat to medium low and covered the grill with a lid, then went on to check on the sauce. It was thicken, which was good. It will stick to the unagi now. It was also around the same time that the rice was done. "Alright. Rumble!" Donny psyched himself up as this was now the part that required the most speed and focus. He flipped the eels, basting the now roasted side with his unagi sauce using a clean cooking brush. He had about a minute to cook these, so he had to be quick as he did the others. He extended a tendrils out from his back to prepare the bowls, filling multiple bowls with sweet, clean white rice. He washed the charcoal briquet so he could use it later.
"It's time." Having prepared multiple eels, Donny began to move the freshly grilled eel onto beds of rice, covering them with a lid to conserve their heat as he placed them on the table nearby. He created at least 12 bowls of unagi dons, two which he knew he would eat on his own. His tendrils also went into the refigerator to grab his soda, preparing some drinks for anyone in the dorms who wanted to have a nice dinner. He made these unagi don's American sized: each bowl had at least two eel fillets, which was quite a lot considering most people only eat half of one! But Donny would settle for nothing less. He was making food for everyone after all, and as his grandmother once told him, if you're going to feed others make sure they leave fat!
