Scarlett glanced over her shoulder as her two brothers wandered off in the direction of the digital arts displays. Her heart warmed in her chest at the sight of them, and she couldn't be more happy that they got to see her first project presented to the entire university. She wondered if her professors were over there. They would surely want to talk about it, maybe criticize it a bit or offer feedback, but she didn't mind either way. She would take whatever she could get. Her fingers itched to smooth out her dress again as she weaved among the growing crowd.

She didn't have the opportunity to go to the showcase last year due to a scheduling conflict that her mother demanded she go to. Some photoshoot that had ended up not being nearly as important as Fiona had said. It resulted in some lackluster photos by a lackluster photographer. The only reason her mother demanded was because he was some famous man's son. Got to please the people, right?

Scarlett rolled her eyes as she finally squeezed through the crowd of people into the classroom her display was in. She beamed again at the sight of it. The paperbacks were starting to dwindle and it seemed that people were standing around talking about it. She scanned them all, looking for her professors, but her eyes caught on one boy, man, in particular. He appeared to be transfixed on her transcript, eyes hooded and face set in firm concentration. She didn't recognize him, so he best fairly new, or in a department she didn't interact with often.

She wandered over to him, clasping her hands in front of her. She slid up next to him, finally getting a better look at his face. She smiled to herself, he was cute looking so focused. Propping a hip against the table, Scarlett offered him a small smile in greeting.
"Enjoying it so far?"
She asked tentatively.

She was used to walking stages and posing in front of a camera. Her best work was done when she was adored. Here, though, she was more vulnerable. The story was a peek into who she was, how talented she was. It was a display of unseen skill, something that people would judge based on what they comprehended not on what they saw. It was nerve-wracking. But, she thought again, he seemed entralled. It soothed her confidence a bit, and her smile brightened.

LUCILLE.

  • mood

    in her draco malfoy era

Pulled away from crowded shores to drown alone at sea, a lily-skinned Lucille with a not so lily-liver was avoiding her responsibilities.

A woman never resigned to displaying weakness in the light of adversary; she’d stowed away from public to tend to old wounds. The chip in her snakeskin plates, a suffering that seeped where the marrow of her bones should fill; fear was foreign to the Blanchest Heiress.

But my, did she fear mascara in the hands of a first-year makeup artist.

Pinned to the chair like a hostage held by bonesaw, dangling spires were held over iris in what felt like perpetual torment. The model’s antsy reminders, be careful, divulged inner apprehension with the subtlety of a glowing red solar flare. Mind ricocheting with dread feeling the sticky pull of black dregs combed against lashes, scraping by sacred millimetres that deliberated vision and partial blindness.

Cruel and unusual punishment.

Some may think it neurotic, the way slender fingers flexed and spaded crescent moons into the soft pleather of the styling chair. Some may think the cut of her features holding all the warmth of a tundra to be conceited, the locked bolt her jaw to be ungrateful.

And in many ways, they would be correct.

But after an eternity of fussy hands tugging at searing scalp, and eye-itching powders pressed into skin with what felt like enough force to tender her face with bruises, patience had been grated like a blade along whetstone. Flaying away layers of what little temperament Luci held so valuably close, sharpening round moon into crescent taper.

When the flat-iron skimmed the shell of her ear, she’d flinched away as if struck by a fist. An abrupt manner so unnatural it’d call into question whether she housed bones or cyborg pieces. The pale of her gaze skittering to the perpetrator in icy silence, only after carefully weighing the consequences of biting them would she slowly, reluctantly, coil back into place. Tucking teeth and talon before the flooring was painted in clumsy viscera.

She had been so thoughtful and generous, allowing the student to do her makeup.

She had been less generous after that student did exactly what she feared; skewered the aforementioned mascara wand into a blue eye. Incendiary pain had Luci surging forward with an ache so fierce she thought her skull had split, eye scrunched shut and hand shielding it from further damage. In the vicious aftermath of ignored apologies and one controlled exhale, a sliver of emotion fractured the thick of her voice, now sounding small and borderline pathetic:

“We have smoke break?”

She did not await a response, mumblings of "yes yes, it time," as she made movement to hop out of the seat.

Past the swig of liquor she’d downed earlier for “liquid courage” and past the pain of having her eye almost gouged from its socket, Luci took this interval as a glimpse of ephemeral escape. If by chance anyone took note of the woman, a ghost slipping away like a whisper of perfume, they did not try to stop her.

Intended cigarette turned into lengthy procrastination.

Luci knew she should be finding Mathis, who no doubt in her mind was fluttering with all the panic of a moth in lamp oil. Perhaps stalking some shady corner to brood and mope in pools of their own worries. But in this moment she wished to be selfish, delay the inevitable of high-fashion, glaring lights and a walkway beneath soldering eyes of judgement.

She’d hoped the faster she walked, the faster her troubles would melt from regard. Like butter skimming a hot pan, disperse into molecules like stardust and elude this entire night. Yet with haste comes the splinter of glass bones, a pain that weighs rigid as obelisk. With each step she could feel the blood inside her ankle run hot, ebb just in time for the next. A crunch of subluxation, the batter and retreat of ceaseless tide.

Iron wrought foundation tendered to clay-soft brawn, the very source of her ire plumed Luci with restless nerves. It had become a practised habit tattooed into her very nature, the lying. Both verbal and physical, method acting to pull a veil betwixt herself and others. No ballerina limps like a creature caught in steel maw, with a mangled leg and amble to match, certainly not a Blanchet.

But when rent apart with damage, how despair would unspool in ribbon succession to form a silk-soft garrote. How flèches would sink moon arcs and ensnare her in an ouroboros of pattern.

It hadn’t been long since she’d left the Auditorium, but she’d already made a decision about where to go to next— to whom she goes to next. Not an idea brewed of conscious deliberation, just a feeling, could she still blame it on curiosity? She supposed excuses grew old by this point, this signature waltz of hate and entanglement they regularly found themselves in.

Not even a second-thought to loiter outside the ceramics studio, opening the door before she can even think it through, before she has even stopped to contemplate what she should say. A woman who values preparation over spontaneity, now corroded to impulse-driven decision.

Whatever morsel of relief this individual could bring was promptly eclipsed by regret as she laid eyes upon them, surfaced an urgent reminder she’d foolishly forgotten in her hunt:

This man disgusts her.

Or does she disgust herself that she is here?

Luci slides the door closed and leans against it, hands folded behind her back and casting bored eyes over the innards of the room, willingly ignorant to the sculptor— the only sculptor, in her presence. Not often did she venture into this area of the university, and still did she bleed with disinterest.

Attention directed back to Vincent, steeling with an imperial tilt of the head. How air freights with tension of the two in an enclosed room.

Hi, would be a reasonable greeting.

Alas, Lucille was not reasonable.

“Did not see tacky little playdough in foyer.” A gentle push away from the door, footsteps slowing around tables to stand opposing Vincent. A vision of bored confidence as she leaned elbows to surface, gracing inspection over nails as if she’d prefer to be anywhere but here, as if she had not intentionally sought out this very room with this very individual inside it.

She did not want to be alone, but it was abhorrent to admit or give reasons for the man to suspect this.

“Nice of you to hide it from visitors, oui?”

F.U.N

Some Nights

Excitement buzzed through Estelle's veins as she stepped onto the vibrant campus of Muse University. The sight of the bustling buildings and the energy radiating from the students filled her with a sense of anticipation. She couldn't help but smile from ear to ear, her heart brimming with excitement for the new chapter of her life.

With her backpack slung over her shoulder, Estelle couldn't wait to immerse herself in the world of creativity and self-expression. Muse University was a place where her hobbies could evolve into works of art, whether it be through journalism or exploring her artistic talents. She envisioned herself capturing captivating stories, drawing vivid masterpieces, and pushing the boundaries of her own potential.

There was a mixture of emotions, assuming what was a showcase happening, she felt in awe seeing all the talent being displayed by just the signs. It was simply breathtaking that she did not even know where to start. As she navigated through the crowd that was trying to settle in the buildings, she noticed a male that seemed in the same lost predicament as she was. Estelle couldn't help but chuckle at the sight of him looking lost amidst the sea of people. Spotting the black and white cat by his side, she found it amusing how he sought guidance from his feline companion and on a leash no less.

Stella was not one to shy away from conversations, most times. However, this would seem like the type of conversation that both parties would benefit. Hugging her portfolio to her chest, the folder was Dungeons & Dragons themed with the emblem on the front which held most of her comic slips that she was requested to show upon application. As he was about to turn left, Stella approached from the opposite side with a grin on her face,
"Hi, you seem to be lost, much like me."

Stella hoped he was at least receptive and not run off, she had a friendly twinkle in her eye as she had a good hunch on the male in front of her.

"I'm Estelle, but mostly go by Stella. Nice to meet you,"
she extended a hand for the courtesy of a handshake.
"Would you and your companion, need company in navigating this maze of a campus? I am a self-proclaimed master in navigating through unknown terrain."
With a mental nudge, she told herself to turn down a nudge the adventure talk she typically used when foraging her own story campaign. This was real life. Either way, she hoped she didn't scare the stranger away at this point in time.

“I have been absolutely terrified every moment of my life-- and I have never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do."
― Georgia
O'Keefe

Charlie stood before his masterpiece, a colossal octopus crafted entirely from discarded litter and waste found on the beach. The sculpture loomed over him, standing tall at six feet, its sprawling legs stretching outwards for seven feet each. It was a labor of love, an ambitious project that had consumed his days and nights leading up to his senior year showcase. And now, as he basked in the presence of his creation, a sense of accomplishment washed over him.

Beside him stood his mothers, Rhonda and Elise, beaming with pride. Rhonda had always been the one to encourage Charlie's artistic endeavors, while Elise, an alumna of Muse University herself, understood the significance of this moment. Charlie couldn't help but feel a surge of gratitude for the unwavering support they had provided throughout his journey.

"Wow, Charlie, look at this magnificent beast you've created!" Rhonda exclaimed, her eyes filled with admiration. "You've really outdone yourself this time, my talented artist."

Charlie couldn't help but roll his eyes fondly in her direction. "You've already seen it, don't be so dramatic."

Rhonda whacked him, gently and lovingly. "Oh! You know what I mean. Seeing it here around everyone else's work-- I mean nothing bad on them but I'm biased. And my baby has blown them out of the water!"

Charlie blushed, his heart swelling with pride at his mother's words. "Thanks, Mom. It was a challenge, but I had so much fun putting it together."

Elise nodded, a glimmer of nostalgia in her eyes. "I remember when I attended Muse. The power of art to convey messages and evoke emotions is truly remarkable. And to think, you've hauled this enormous sculpture across the entire United States!"

Charlie chuckled, knowing all too well the ordeal it had been to transport his creation from his home state to the university. "Yeah, it was quite an adventure. Xena and I had to strategize our road trip, making sure the octopus was secured in the van. But hey, it's all worth it to see it here in all its glory."

His emotional support dog, Xena, wagged her tail at the mention of her name. She had been his steadfast companion throughout the journey, her comforting presence offering solace during moments of doubt and exhaustion. The trip was a lot for his beat up ford bronco, especially with an octopus winding it's tentacles into every corner of it.

As Rhonda and Elise continued to marvel at the sculpture, Charlie took a step back, admiring the intricacies of his work. Each piece of litter had been carefully selected and transformed, molded into the shape of tentacles that seemed to sway with an otherworldly grace. It was a testament to Charlie's passion for the environment, their fascination with the unknown, and their deep-rooted desire to create something meaningful.

Lost in his thoughts, Charlie watched as his mothers exchanged a knowing glance. "We'll be right back, sweetheart," Rhonda said, nudging Elise playfully. "Nature calls, you know."

Charlie waved them off, unwilling to be subject to Rhonda teasing Elise about her tiny bladder. It was the joke everywhere they went, Elise always had to take a potty break. "Go ahead, Moms. I'll be right here, guarding my masterpiece."

As Rhonda and Elise wandered off towards the bathroom, Charlie found himself alone with his sculpture. He took a deep breath, inhaling the familiar scent of paint and creativity that permeated the air. It was a moment of quiet reflection, a chance to truly absorb the magnitude of his achievement.

The theater building buzzed with activity around him, but Charlie found solace in the stillness of the moment. His thoughts wove intricate patterns, connecting the threads of his journey—the late-night brainstorming sessions, the hours spent perfecting his technique, and the unwavering support of his mothers and friends.

With a gentle pat on Xena's head, Charlie whispered, "We did it, girl. We brought our vision to life." Xena wagged her tail in response, her brown eyes filled with love and adoration.

Lost in the serenity of the theater building, Charlie awaited the return of his mothers, ready to share this momentous occasion with them and the world. With the weight of their love and support behind him, he felt a surge of excitement for the year ahead.

the adrenaline rush gauged from the uproar of the audience as she exited the stage made paola's picturesque smile harden upon her features. there was never a moment onstage where she didn't feel at home, and the giddy feeling she felt inside at a job well done hugged her heart in the best way possible. theatre was the one thing she felt most proud of; the one thing paola accepted for what it was because it was perfected. and even though she knew there was so much more learning to be done, she was content with her capability to move the audience with just a change in her voice or the smooth transition of one facial expression to the next. in the most confident manner possible, she had all of her audience's at the palm of her hand.

tonight, for example, was a showcase that she could slap into her book of achievements. the endless cycle of practice and the beads of sweat she lost on the floor beneath her during hours of rehearsal were all worth it. quickly, paola found herself basking in the success of it, so much so that she failed to pay attention to anyone on her way backstage.

the sudden voice that wasn't her own internal monologue had her head snapping back up from the ground and a slight yelp escaping from her buxom lips. it was a fright that left just as fast as it came as she saw the familiar ballerina standing in front of her, which once again earned a cheeky grin. that was another thing she perfected. if she wasn't already known for her talent in character, paola was surely known for smiling a lot. even when her external expression didn't match her internal feelings.

"oh! thank you so much. that means a lot to me,"
the tension in her body released as she let her arms fall to her side. before adding on, paola took the time to admire juliet's attire for her own performance, admiring the intricacies of its patterns and appreciating the details that tied the look altogether. though, the self-doubt that slipped from the other's sentence made the natural twinkle in paola's eyes dim ever so slightly.

"awe.. well it's alright to be nervous, but you shouldn't doubt yourself that way!"
a hint of a mother's protection danced within paola's voice, almost as if her own mother was speaking through her. paola could remember the days where she felt incapable, but the reassurance and her daily mantras were enough to snap her out of that part of her mind.
"the uni wouldn't have accepted you if they didn't think you were capable, hun. but you are. that stage is yours just as much as it is ours. and the folks out there are waiting to see you shine,"
followed by her words of encouragement, paola's toothy smile softened into something warmer. one that showed juliet that she had enough faith to share for the both of them.

"you got this, i know you do. use those nerves to your advantage and push them all into your hands and feet. you have a whole auditorium rooting for you."

"Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who's wearing it."
Yves Saint
Laurent

Wilhelmina had come to quite a large piece of art that was set on a pedestal about a foot tall. A giant octopus made out of what looked to be trash, its tentacles winding their way across the floor that surrounded it. She turned her nose up at it, what a gross sort of medium to use when creating art. Yet, the more she stared at it, the more she found herself enjoying the message it conveyed. Instead of trash, she really thought about the pieces that made up the statue: fishing net, plastic bags, bottle caps. What she'd considered a pile of trash just moments before, she now resonated with.

As she studied the piece, she couldn't help but notice the student nearby that was also taking it in. What looked to be his mothers had their arms wrapped around him, and they'd been singing his praises. It had been impossible for Wil to not overhear them.

She felt a deep sadness settle within her. Her mother had never spoken to her like that, nor had her father really. It was a sorry reminder whenever she saw someone else basking in the love of their parents. It was a feeling she'd wanted for a long time, but knew she was never going to get. She could feel tears threatening to fill her eyes and she blinked furiously, willing them away. She would feel so ashamed if she broke down crying on her very literal first day. How embarrassing.

She had to walk away, unable to endure that environment for too much longer, and found herself returning to the magnificent gown that she'd been admiring before. It was breathtaking. Inspiring.

"Hi!" A cheerful voice broke through the swirling emotions in Wil's head and startled her a bit, her head snapping up and to attention. "I'm Evie, this is your first year, right?"

Wil was caught off guard, and for a solid moment could only manage to stare at Evie, unsure of how to respond. Under normal circumstances, Wil would hold her head high, and politely find her way out of the conversation. She didn't do so well with making friends. But here, where she was surrounded by creatives, she almost felt like she ought to try. And this Evie person was beautiful, that couldn't be denied.

"Oh-- I. I'm Wilhelmina-- and yeah it's my first year. That obvious, huh?" She felt as if she had been standing out, as if she had looked lost or stupid or something.

INTERACTIONS. mathis. MENTIONS. tobias

the slight annoyance that overcame him from being bumped into was quickly replaced by a piqued curiosity. papers filled with designs floated around him like confetti falling, causing a sense of confusion of what happened. dark eyes slowly trailed down to the voice that had given him a stressed apology and cain couldn't help but smirk at the other's frantic movements to collect their papers and walk away. if it hadn't been for the guitar strap securely wrapped around his body, the scenario would have been a different story for the other. cain didn't know if he would be angry that his guitar broke or if he would find this to be a blessing in disguise that would cause him to postpone the showcase.

but either way, it didn't matter. unfortunately for the music prodigy, his guitar had survived the bump safe and sound.

letting a small huff of air escape from his nose as he exhaled sharply, cain dropped at the same level as his newfound company, the only difference being that he stayed on his feet. briskly collecting papers from the floor, careful not to smudge them with the dirt and dust collecting on the surface of it, he tapped the edge of his paper collection on the ground to align them all before coming back up. and unashamedly, cain found himself snooping at their work.

"'s nice,"
his monotone voice got lost in the hustle and bustle of his fellow attendees as he complimented their sketches. cain knew nothing of fashion so he couldn't deeply appreciate it as much as the designers would have picked it apart, but they looked decent to him.

waiting until the other got the chance to rise to their own feet, cain didn't hesitate to lock eyes even if he didn't notice that mathis was trying to do the exact opposite.
"i'd suggest a folder though? unless this is your way of making conversation."
the smirk that he wore upon his face began to fade back to a resting expression, the muscles in his jaw flexing as he bit down on his teeth.

"you still have some time to pick your poison too, if you're into that shit. the fashion show isn't for another few hours."
santiago wish that he could take up on his own advice, finding a little liquid courage to be a pleasant idea right now. he would succumb to anything that would take the edge off even for just a little if his performance hadn't been coming up soon. and the fact that tobias, his partner in crime, was nowhere to be found for the last half hour didn't exactly calm his nerves.

where the fuck is that guy?, cain thought to himself, finding another tired sigh escaping from his lips. he'd be sure to grab a shot once the night was done. and there was nothing more that he was looking forward to than the prerolled blunt sitting in his dorm and awaiting for his return.

Twenty One Pilots

Chlorine

There was something about the way he looked at her that was simply addicting. Those dark yet lustful eyes always had their way of settling the deepest pit in her stomach to toss and turn. She didn't know that one person, by the name of Tobias Yeop, could entrap her like this whenever they met up for their sessions.

Knowing very well he wouldn't utter a word to her, as much as it frustrated Clarissa, she grew accustomed to the silent treatment. Something about it made it much more enticing. To simply close her eyes and enjoy the feeling of his hands, his lips and so much more praising and manoeuvring on her body, doing wonders to help her ease in. Clarissa was never a hook-up kind of girl. She quite frowned up at it. It wasn't until that one late drunken night in a bar. One night that turned all she believed around. The thrill of it. At first, she wasn't so drilled to text message the random guy at the bar that took her phone and dialled in his number in her contact list as T. Just T. Clarissa messaged him around two weeks later to meet up and she didn't even know his name. Who he was. Nothing.

All she knew is after that one night, she wanted to do so again, even if it was against her code of conduct. In fact, Clarissa was never one to show how she was feeling and she was not going to let the worse of them all show; desperation. Playing hard to get was her favourite pastime to hide the reality of it all. That always did the trick and after many unanswered hook-up text messages (never calls) she responded. Tobias here fell hook line and sinker for the scheme. A challenge, even.

Her own lust-filled hazel eyes slowly scanned the phone as she bit her lower lip lightly as she read through their previous texts before hitting that send button and turning to give him her back. A soft chuckle escaped at the notification sound. Now that their deed was done, she needed to go meet her best friend who was probably in the same agony, crying for help in that stampede. She was about to proceed, especially since she could not even hear him typing back or see the three bubbles forming on her screen as he typed.

Tobias was a man of few (or none) words and as much as it bothered Clary she also finds it quite mysterious. It seemed to be the aura she emits to attract these types of men. Was it because she was like that too? In reality, Clarissa was rather guarded. She had walls built so high that it needed a bulldozer to break them down. She feared the man behind her was that bulldozer especially since she was attempting to do the same. Why? She was afraid to answer. She did not want to show him he was growing on her. Given there were not many vocal exchanges, she still knew where she stood with him eighty per cent of the time. His texts made sure of that, even when his actions were not.

That being said, the text sent today had quite a distance from the one on their thread. One stating about face timing. Not that she would particularly care but their sessions took a big halt when he disappeared to be with his family in South Korea. Clarissa couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy at that thought. Especially since she was all alone in the Summer. It was times like these her thoughts always reminisced back to her brother. Her twin brother. Despite living without him for all these years, it still felt like half of her soul was missing. Never complete. Hence, she found herself drawn to her phone quite a lot to even say exploring her horizons with other males besides Toby. Even though they provided a great shag, none of them could add up to her first.

That being said, to her surprise it was not the first time they were drawn back to share a couple of pictures, exchanged a few heated texts and from time to time even face timed to seal the deal. Still spiralling to know why he gave her the time of day, knowing his tendencies but she did not question it. She just enjoyed it. It was quite sweet even when he came home drunk and actually told her where he was and what he was doing. Tobias never did that. These harmless flirtations and hookups were all nice and shining till reality started hitting Clarissa. Was she falling for him? The one question she was dreading to answer amongst all this vagueness.

Feeling a sudden warmth around her wrist she was not expecting, she was turned and pulled, colliding against his lengthened body. Clary's heart stopped and started rapidly pumping like one of his drums. Her hand turned into a fist as he kept a hold tight on it, letting a soft yelp escape her lips as she caught her colliding self against him by putting her other hand flat on his chest. She was about to speak but instead, her breath hitched as he tilted his head. The female's eyes trailed as he ran a finger along her jawline momentarily before landing on him as she tried to calculate his next move but all she knew was whenever he used force, Clarissa probably pushed a button and that was something she loved doing.

Feeling his lips trail across the soft flesh of her collar, Clarissa's natural response was to tilt her head slightly toward the opposite side, granting him access to the soft spots along her neck to right under her ear which a soft whimper escaped through her parted lips, the hand on his chest tightening, her nails digging at the fabric of his shirt. Clarissa bit her lower lip, not to give him the satisfaction of hearing her, especially when she knew he was pressing the exact same buttons in return. It was always playing to win, never even. An audible hitch of a breath made its way out as he further explored down again, feeling his lips latching to her skin, feeling a pleasurable sting of his sucking and his teeth grazing against the paleness.

Leaning against him for support she felt the heat that was forming at his mark travelling down her body to her navel, her core. Forgetting the fact he may have bared his mark on her exposed flesh momentarily. Upon realisation her eyes shot open as her untapped hand lifted his head from his chin, narrowing her eyes as if telling him she knew what he was up to before a peeping grin danced on her lips, the game was not over. Yet.

Applying a bit of force to her wrist she slid away from his grasp, sure she was tinier in the frame but sliding was definitely easier. Clarissa slowly took out a blue sachet that she always brought with her from her jeans' back pocket, knowing very well that he didn't do rubber. Reaching around him she slowly slid it into his back pocket which she often did when seconds followed up. Simply not now.

With a small air kiss shot towards him, she slowly parted and removed her warmth against him from the equation. Knowing very well a text will shoot up later in the day or the morning after. But for now, she knew her best friend needed her and so she had to jet any time soon. With that, she left the arousal-smelling janitor's closet and her companion behind her, with an itch of a second round in her jeans.

As she opened the door, she was greeted by the familiar sight of new students roaming around. For a moment, forgetting that he marked her. Thankfully her sweater covered three-quarters of it and only the reddened edges were visible. Clarissa's eyes scanned for Derrick's stand. Placing her earphones in yet again, her instinct checked her phone in case a text from Toby showed up after that. Shoving her phone in her back pocket she inhaled to regain her composure at the sound of some beats.

With that, her eyes scanned the sea of students only to land on a familiar face who looked rather idle. Once again, finding herself sifting through the crowd she reached her best friend's stand from behind as she noticed all his marvellous photography skills mixed with her mediocre ones as well. Lowering on her friend's shoulder from behind she slowly turned the knob of his hearing aid from behind and softly spoke,
"You asked for me? I told you to only showcase my good side, doof."

A chuckle escaped her lips. Clarissa did have a somewhat soft side. It simply was not for everyone to see.

Pharell Williams

Happy

As he waited patiently, watching carefully as each performance shifted through, he noticed the 'Staff Only' door sign light and that usually meant either those close to him paying him a visit or a student needing technical specifications for their performance. In this case, it was the first option especially when he heard shuffling coming from the mezzanine stairs. He placed the timer on he had recorded for the current performance before turning around to see the familiar face of his best mate with his typical grin and wide-armed gesture. Patrick could not help but let out a little laugh at his comment.

"Cal! Bud! It's nice to see ya mate!"
Pat motioned towards him and extended his arms to embrace him into a reunion brotherly hug.
"Nice to grace me with your spectacular presence bud. Of course, it's dark, how else shall I focus the stage light if not? Need to blend in and shit, y'know?"

All was seemingly happy till Callaway removed his shades which immediately earned him a worried look shot to him, his hands trailing to his friend's cheek to turn to see the black eye,
"Jesus Cal, who did you piss off this time? Home I'm assuming?"
with a soft sigh he went to his satchel and shuffled around for some healing cream to heal smoothly. Due to his little brother, Patrick always ended up carrying a first aid kit so it simply became a force of habit. Call it the motherly/brotherly instinct in him.

As the male approached and sat on the empty table, Patrick turned and almost winced till he remembered that all the mics were downstairs with their respective current owner. Looking at the dimming he went to slowly adjust the bars that dimmed the stage and then moved the spotlight on the main actress who had a monologue. Patrick unscrewed the cap to the cream and reached his best mate and squeezed some cream on his index to gently dab at the wounded skin,
"Don't fight me on this okay?"

As he awaited his reactions, Patrick's lips pursed at his questions,
"Summer was rather eventful this year. Spent a lot of time travelling with Cam. You should have seen the little one, he was like an excited puppy."
It was no secret that Cameron, his little brother, was everything to Patrick. And from the absence of their parents, Pat made it a point that Cam should still have the childhood Patrick always wanted. And that was what he provided him, or tried his best to give him. As he slowly blended the cream in, his eyes darted to his friend's awarding him with an eye roll,
"Sadly, hookups were on the low but parties - I am sufficiently craving them now. I am quite in need of one. Oh, I am sure your ladies did miss you, especially when you dip out and see them here next semester LOL."

It was safe to say that Patrick loved the party life and all the shenanigans that came with it. However, he only let that side of him when he was away from home. Away from his responsibilities. Thankfully, Callaway was an extension of that chaos. His partner in crime, if you may. So anything he can get during his scholastic period was a big win from the lack thereof in the summer. However, as if on cue, he noticed a familiar set of blonde locks, emerging from the doorway, a smirk appearing on his lips signalling Cal. It was none other than his beloved cousin, Laurel. Who also happened to be his best mate's ex-girlfriend. Quite a predicament that was as he loved them both dearly and wanted neither one to get hurt, especially Laurel. The smirk dancing on his lips was more hinted towards Laurel's suppressed banter she usually hit him with at the sight of Cal,
"What's up cus? Cat's got your tongue?"

He knew what Cal preferred and how he operated if he gets used to something. That was not a risk he was willing to have Laurel take. He couldn't risk her getting hurt. They simply viewed the idea of a relationship differently and both would have ended up on the wrong foot. How she had the taming effect on Cal, he could never understand. Patrick knew the step he had to take would break his cousin but it was needed as it would have been worse in the long run.

After letting them continue the awkward exchange, he motioned to the control box to change the lighting, adjusting the sound a little bit to be a bit echoey as the scene demanded. Anyone who sees him may think he is bluffing but Patrick had the recollection of remembering the scenes as he studies each one meticulously and actually times them. He is always counting seconds till the next change and it was something he had gotten himself accustomed to instead of constantly being eyes on the stage when he had company and seem like an unsocial freak. Noticing the silent male, he looked sideways shooting him a grin,
"You never really struck me as a monologue enthusiast, bud."

Turning to his beloved cousin he relaxed in his chair by his bud, as Laurel faced him,
"Not tonight my sweet Laurel Bell, no Shrek's this time. Possible Spongebob's though?"
he inquired with a teasing tone in his voice and an intrigued raised eyebrow. I won't displease Auntie again. She almost tore off my ear cause of that." With a chuckle, he felt Laurel's poke directly in his dimpled cheeky smile, but he slowly turned into a more serious tone,
"Aight, aight, I'm listening. Is everything ok cus? Do you wanna talk?"

Worried glitter lightly in his emerald eyes before sighing,
"Or did you miss me and Cam that much?"
he taunted.

Seeing the look in her eyes he recognised what she needed. A distraction.
"Ok ok, you are soon up next, hit me. What do you have in store?"
Patrick clapped his hands together ready to set his cousin's wishes.

We are Young

Her prayers were answered as her voice managed to make it to her best friend who came quickly rushing to her aid without hesitation or doubt.

"Ahh bless your soul my darling, I couldn't come close to imagining how I was gonna carry them in,"
Marisol mused as she sighed in relief when Teddy start taking some of the big canvases which he did so with ease unlike her.
"Either way some rando would have made a fit but I would rather not,"
the female chuckled, shifting the bags in her hands more easily as she straightened herself much better now.
"I swear the trip here was agonising enough but nothing of that now. We're back in business baby!"

Looking at him she couldn't help but notice him taking her talent. He was her supporter, her hype man as she was to him. He was no short of talent himself. Finally entering the swarmed building she scanned for the visual arts display to get her set up and settled. She was already running late as it was, so might as well get to it. As they reached their destination, she lowered the bags and with the elastic around her wrist she ran her hands up her untamed curls and did a messy bun which meant it was time to get to work. Especially knowing her bestie needed to grace his presence in the Florence Auditorium soon enough.

With a chuckle at his playful but serious comment, she turned around with her hands on her hips,
"Well my dear. I think you will find my latest inspirations quite surprising indeed. They're going to be very colourful, much like you. You were one of my muses after all,"
she mused trying to ease the wound, poking her tongue out at his jab. With ease, she slowly took one of the canvasses from his hand and set it on the empty easels. It was inspired by the famous painting 'Starry Night' but with a modern twist. Another canvas was relieved from Teddy's hand and on the other vacant easel.

"No worries, I shall heal your wounded heart by the end of the day, sounds right?"
a wink was shot his way as she went to embrace him in a hug. Hugging him was truly like being hugged by a teddy bear. It felt nice before slowly releasing him, holding him at arm's length,
"Thank you for saving me from my agony as always but how was your Summer, Teds? Any new updates I should know? Showcase planning, yadda yadda...."

Her eyes sparkled every time she spoke to him. It always felt good to catch up after a summer apart and just texting or calling was their only option.

Excitement tinged by déjà vu filled Mauricio as he looked out onto the campus from his dorm room window. It was buzzing, an inanimate setting brought to life by the waves of students, old and new alike, eager to drink in the talent of Muse University's student body. If he focused a little too hard, he could see himself, last year, wandering and out of place. Here he was, a year later almost to the day standing in practically the same spot taking in the same scene. What could he say, he's been a creature of habit for as long as he could remember.

This was one of his more harmless habits, occasionally sidelining himself to admire the movements of others. He'd join the crowd down there at some point, just as soon as his pick-me-up kicked in.

A puff of smoke clouded his vision and fogged up the window, effectively blocking him from his distraction, the weight of the dab pen in his left hand all that remained to pull him back to reality. Turning around, his eyes scanned the room to resume what he'd been doing before staring into the abyss for ten minutes.

Now instead he resumed staring at his disaster of an abode. The relatively small space, organized and near pristine upon his arrival a mere handful of days previous, had been reduced to scattered piles of clothing and an unmade bed. Sheets of paper covered in vague doodles and haphazard scribbles that more closely resembled chicken scratch than the thoughts of a college student at a prestigious institution strewn about his living quarters, a fairly accurate representation of the overall state of his existence. One could only imagine the damage he would do if his work wasn’t primarily digital.

Hurricane Mauricio sighed, head dropping slightly to the right as his eyes began darting around in an attempt to examine the area. A pair of entirely white kicks should not be this difficult to find against the dark backdrop of his room, but he was somewhat notorious for his ability to scan right over items he was searching for. He entertained the idea of asking his roommate for help, but decided against bugging him quite yet and for such a trivial thing.

Shoving the pen in his left pocket, he resigned himself to putting actual effort into his search. His hunt continued along the floor: first under the desk, where he located the concept art for a character loosely based on the Gizmo Furby; after that came the closet, which proved to be a treacherous journey as he forced himself between a stack of reference books and the hoodies thrown on the back of his desk chair; and finally, the dreaded space underneath the bed, where success finally sort of found him in the form of one shoe.

Somewhat content with the development, Mau grabbed his phone from the corner of the desk and opened the door to his room with the found shoe in his hand. His decision to go outside instead of picking different shoes was founded on the baseless hope that the other half of the pair would be somewhere in the common area.

Shutting the door behind him, Mau’s gaze dropped to the ground in an attempt to not forget the task at hand while he called out: “Yo, Gus! You tryna toke up or somethin’ ‘fore we head out?” Midway through the sentence he’d thrown himself belly-down on the floor in front of the couch, arm outstretched as he felt around blindly for the missing footwear. Victory came rather quickly, a grin forming on his face as he removed his arm from underneath the couch and stood up.

Attempting not to lose his balance as he struggled to slip the shoes on, he hopped one-legged in the direction of the minifridge in the kitchenette. Booze wasn’t usually his thing, but something about tonight was compelling him to have a shot or three before joining the showcase, so he grabbed the first bottle he came into contact with and set it atop the fridge before fishing his pen and phone from his pocket.

  • TW: talking about rubbers/condoms, toby's viewpoint on them, and talking about poop

    ---------

    See ya

He had been three seconds too late.

    The door had already closed.

He left standing there to stew in the stuffy, highly scented closet by himself. The words had finally come from his lips, albeit in a hushed, low tone, after battling for the last fifteen minutes with the anxiety turning in the pit of his guts. Why is it so hard? He cursed himself out, frowning at his inability to speak two simple words to someone who he hooked up with on more than a casual basis. Their dynamics together was a perfect combination and Toby often found himself floating in the comfortness of just knowing Clarissa was there. So, why couldn’t he feel that while he was around her? Why couldn’t he open his lips and let all the words in his mind flow and reach her ears?

Sliding his hand into the back of his pocket, Tobias took hold of the plastic blue sachet, holding it before him to inspect. The words durex patterned the packaging, making it quite obvious to what was hidden away behind the conspicuous plastic. Another scoff slipped past his lips with a huff of breath, followed by a typical eye roll from the boy. Without a moment of hesitation, long, slender fingers flung the sachet in the direction of the bin causing it to land on the newly produced trash of used tissues. It wasn’t that he was against using them. I mean, if you wanted to use them, go right for it. But for himself, it was a preference.

Having lost his virginity to a close family friend at the age of fifteen while visiting Busan on a family holiday, it was nothing but awkward. From undressing, to attempting to put the rubber on, and then just doing the deed. It was a complete and utter mess, and Tobias debriefed the whole situation with his cousins afterwards. They had told him that the first thing he did wrong was wear a rubber. His eldest cousin insisted that they were a sign of distrust, a denial of intimacy and “killed the mood”. And that conversation he had with his cousin had stuck with him ever since. In all honesty, it was the only sex education he had really received, given he struggled through out his duration of schooling as he settled in America.

So, he never offered. It never really seemed to be an issue; but then again, he never really had a casual hook up friend like Clarissa before. All the others in the past had been one night stands at the local pub, or at random parties. A take away order from a spontaneous restaurant he was never bound to see again. But Clarissa was his first when it came to regular hook ups. And she was the first to start insisting to wear one. No matter how many times he exhaled deeply and roughly, or how many times he rolled his eyes - his way of protesting - she stayed around, she insisted, and she always won. He didn’t know why he always let her win. Whatever reason though, it was the same reason his eyes were glued onto the trash can, burning holes at that blue little sachet.

Fucking hell” he exhaled under his breath.

Leaning over with little effort, he took hold of the rubber and placed it back into the very same pocket that Clarissa had placed it in. “Fucking bitch” Annoyance flooded through his whole body as he came to the conclusion that he was in fact the bitch, and not Clarissa. How had he allowed someone to play him in such a way? To have this great control over him despite not even being in the same room as him? He hated himself for it. But also… the thought of it was intriguing, scratching an itch he had been hiding for many years.

Ensuring that everything was zipped back up, buckled up and he wasn’t about to expose himself to the world out there, Tobias took a deep inhale in preparation to make his way back out there. Opening the door, the swarm of people were still out there, but it didn’t feel as bad as before. His little catch up with Clarissa was exactly what he had needed to calm himself down. And now - it was time to get back to doing what he was actually meant to be doing; performing. He had told Cain almost twenty minutes ago that he had to use the bathroom. Well, who the hell takes twenty minutes to pee?

    Manoeuvring his way through the crowd, Tobias found himself backstage in the auditorium in no time. Head down, slouched in his normal posture and stature, and swerving through the mass of people with complete ease this time around. A glance upwards saw his friend standing nearby to which he made a complete a-line to. Everyone around was completely blocked out, and Tobias’ sole focus was on getting to his friend without any other anxiety-ridden occurrences or events. And once he approached Cain, he said the very first thing that came to his head. His voice, much in classic Tobias fashion, was low, borderline mumbled;

Sorry. Had to do a mad shit

Another glance upwards would’ve been something to consider before speaking. Instead, it had been an afterthought and as Toby glanced from his friend, he saw another student standing before them; Mathis. Instantly, he felt a weighted ball drop from the back of his throat into his gut, creating aftershock waves throughout his body. A deep inhale through his nostrils, Tobias turned his body away from the pair, but still standing side by side to his best friend with his back towards Mathis.

He released the breath he had been holding onto in that moment, slowly through his mouth. Leaning over slightly towards Cain, he let out a soft whisper towards him “He didn’t hear me, did he?

“It is not enough to discover the secret of a play, its thought and feelings—the actor must be able to convert them into living terms.”
― Konstantin
Stanislavski

"Ahh bless your soul my darling, I couldn't come close to imagining how I was gonna carry them in," Marisol's voice sang clear and chipper in Teddy's ear, sticking a permanent smile to his face as his heart soared with joy. Being back around his bestie was the most wonderful feeling. She was often his home away from home, and just her aura alone wrapped him in a soft and warm feeling that he eased into effortlessly. "Either way some rando would have made a fit but I would rather not," she chuckled, and Teddy echoed it, knowing that she wasn't wrong. "I swear the trip here was agonising enough but nothing of that now. We're back in business baby!"

His own trip wasn't so bad, he was thankful for that. He and Patrick had been doing a lot of work over zoom together though to prepare for the performances, but that was about as tough as it had gotten for him, in his opinion. "Back in business, indeed. Girl it's been far too long since we've been able to tackle the world together- I'm literally so glad to be back. I'm ready to be as unstoppable as ever this year."

"Well my dear. I think you will find my latest inspirations quite surprising indeed. They're going to be very colourful, much like you. You were one of my muses after all."
Teddy was honored, and definitely one for dramatics so his face sure showed it. The shock made itself known first, his mouth popping open just a bit before morphing into a dramatic pout paired with a pitiful quiver and his eyes seemed to glisten with unshed tears.

"Mariiiii you're kidding!! I'm your muse? Little ol' me? Babyyyy I love you so much! Girl I can't beleive you just said that to me I'm gonna cry." He pinched the bridge of his nose and looked up to the sky, holding his tears back as if they were threatening to spill over and not stop at any second.

After Mari set her canvasses down, she wrapped her arms around him, and Teddy happily embraced her back. Her hugs were some of his favorite hugs on the planet, and he squeezed her tight for good measure.

"Thank you for saving me from my agony as always but how was your Summer, Teds? Any new updates I should know? Showcase planning, yadda yadda...." He felt her voice as well as heard it while she was wrapped up in his hug, and at her question he took that moment to unwind himself from their embrace and peer at her face as he responded.

"Anytime, my love. You know I always got you." He bumped her shoulder affectionately. "Summer was. Hot. Texas was relentless as ever. But I worked on some really cool productions with my Aunt. We did Romeo and Juliet but very queer and very wild. It was fun."

Then, it was as if he had a moment of realization, and a secret sort of grin came to his face before he leaned in real close to Marisol and in a quieter voice, started in on another topic. "You know, I've spent a lot of time with Patrick over the years, yes? This summer even more so since we collaborated a lot on the showcase but girl!!! That man is so fine when he talks about the things he' passionate about! Like, have you ever seen him- the look on his face he gets when he's thinking?" He felt his voice growing louder and covered his mouth with a grin. "Maybe I've just been cooped up too long but I've been thirsting!!"

"Oh but enough about me-- how was your summer darling?" Teddy crossed his arms and waited for his friend to tell him all about her recent endeavors.

Casper woke up with a start. He had the dream again. The dream he always has. He would be a child again, at the place where his life fell apart. He would be holding onto his sister, as tightly as he can. But it would fail and she would be pulled away. The moment he was pulled from her, he would scream her name and chase after her. But he would never reach her, he just kept running and he would hear her calling for him, screaming for him and there was nothing he could do to help her. All he could do is watch as his person, his favorite person in the world was dragged away from him. And he barely touched her fingertips chasing after her, and that's when he woke up.

He tries to shake the dream from his mind but it stays there. Casper got up from his bed at his dorm, where he had been the last couple of days. He had flown in early because his parents had to go back to work, and Wil had flown earlier as well. Although her brother had not, and they were hooking up during the break from Muse. He couldn't even resist that eye candy, even with the person he consider to be his sister in the next room. Wil had been scared of her first year of college, and he promised that he would go and find her as soon as he was dressed and ready. He texted her quickly to let her know that he was on his way.

Casper then quickly took a shower and changed his clothes. His dorm mate had not come, he figured that he waited until the first day of Muse to come join the festivities of being a Muse student. He had a project for the showcase, it was just a short novel based on a character that he had been writing for his piece in class a year ago. A boy that lost his way in the world, and found his way back to the light with the help of his new family. The character was based on Casper's own experiences but with magic and animals added too. He looked at the time and groaned as he was late.

He rushed off to the theatre arts building. Pushing past people, he ignored the groans and angry people as he pushed his way into the building. He looked around for his baby sister until he found her talking to a girl. He carefully came up to her and wrapped his arms around her picking her up slightly off the ground.
"Hey Lee, how's my favorite girl doing?."
He said softly as he places her down carefully, kissing the top of her head. He turned to the girl in front of them and nodded at her. He wasn't much for talking to others that he didn't trust. Casper only kept the few close to his heart. People like Wil, and Derick. People that mattered to him.

Teagan was already tired of the noise of today. She had come back earlier than her cousin because she had to make sure classes were in order. She needed to think about whether she wanted to take more visual arts classes or digital arts this semester. She chose digital arts this time around because she did a lot of classes last semester in visual arts, and her digital arts classes kinda fell behind. Once she did that, her professor let her know that one of her designs was up for the showcase. She decided to walk around to see the other artists' art as well.

Teagan then went to the dorm that she shared with Alix. They had been roommates the year before, and she knew that she needed to keep her around because she understood how she was, and even when she was bluntly honest, she never took it hard. Teagan appreciated that even though she never could say it or show it, she knew that she had rushed out earlier because she was running late for her presentation. Once she got into the dorm, she quickly changed into appropriate clothing that she had for the showcase and went off. She grabbed her noise-canceling headphones placing them on. She also grabbed her sketchbook and favorite pencil.

She then left. Walking around, avoiding the big crowds, she saw the art she liked and the ones she didn't. When she checked the time, it was almost time for her to go meet up with her cousin. She texted her cousin, letting her know that she was on her way. She headed for the outside of the university, where her cousin said she was going to be this morning. Teagan saw her talking to her best friend Teddy, once she was close enough, she stood to the side of the campus, waiting for her cousin to notice her but she saw her smiling, and it was perfect, she just sat down on the ground. Then she started to sketch the moment she was seeing.

Everything went quiet and the world was nothing to her, all she could focus on is the sketch in front of her, and the picture that she was seeing in her mind.

  • This meeting of two people could’ve gone one way or another. The first way would’ve been the same way every other stranger he had met in this big city, who reacted to his kind and gentle - yet quite excitable and maybe overpowering - approaches with nothing but negativity and scowling. She could’ve told him that he had made her day into a living hell, and that he had hurt her. What if she tried to sue him?! The anxiety started from the top of his crown, slowly trailing down his spine like a incy wincy spider slowly climbing back down to safety before storms came to wash him out. Surely not. She was far too young, right?

Thankfully, wide, fearful and concerned eyes were met with an excitable glimmer and spark in the other pair that he gazed down at. A wide, cheesy grin etched her face and she softly placed his hand upon his own. Isaac’s gaze carefully watched every movement, prepared incase this girl turned out to be some sort of black belt and was about to throw him over her shoulder and into the wall. Finally, when she spoke, a laugh fell from his lips like honey, leaving a sweet fragerance and taste in his mouth. Automatically, his own face reflected hers; a wide toothy grin, filled with expectation and desire for a friendly bond dripping off his lips as the corners turned upright.

Instantly he felt the weight lift from his shoulders.

The heaviness that dwelled from overthinking and fear of not being able to people please was caught by the fresh wind that the young girl before exuted. Maddox was her name. A freshman, like himself, but moving into Theatre Arts Department. Well, at least she was a freshman like himself. Someone with a friendly face that he could ask for assistance from, resulting in most likely the blind leading the blind. Excitement bubbled in his chest, even causing him to stand up straighter as he dropped his arms from her shoulders. As far as he was aware, she was fully capable of standing on her own two feet now some large clutz wasn’t walking around without looking and bumping into girls.

Isaac,” he responded with a toothy grin, extending his hand but instead of using it to aid in her balance, it was to shake her hand with the introduction. “Freshman too. But not the Theatre Arts. Musical Arts. I don’t think I could ever do Theatre. You must have some real charisma and a passion for it. Well, I mean, of course. You’re going to be studying it here.

If only the word vomit could stop.

But like an excitable young puppy, he was wide eyed with awe, ants in his pants, and constantly thinking about the next thing that was about to happen. Maybe it was his brain trying to look for that dopamine kick through the mundane life routine, or maybe it was cause Isaac was just passionate about finding the good things in life. What ever it was, it caused him to gaze around to observe those around them and what their movements were. “You don’t happen to know the like… time table or what ever you call it?” he questioned the girl before him, his brows furrowing slightly as he watched more people exit the theatre as an onslaught of others were making their way in. “This place is so big. I don’t know how I’m going to be able to navigate it without sticking my nose into one of those giant maps everyday

Two hundred hours. Maybe a bit more.

The grand total amount of time Alix had spent over the summer making sure she nailed every bit of the choreography down to the last detail for her number in the opening showcase upon her return at Muse U. If she were as passionate about the rest of her homework, she wouldn’t be already nearing the threshold of Muse U’s 3.0 GPA requirement by the time she started her second year. This, however, was the last thing on her mind as she stretched and bent to do drop splits effortlessly. All she could think of was that stage with her standing on it in a sparkly black dress and a classic pair of black T-strap pumps complemented by matching garters, a wonderful trio of token items of the Roaring Twenties that she absolutely loved. What a time it must have been to be a jazz performer back then! Alix would wistfully sigh as she fantasized about liquor-filled nights in dark cabarets draped in thick tobacco smoke, cigarette holder in hand, chatting away with all the beautiful people of the music scene and getting with the most talented artists of the era musically or… otherwise.

Coming back to reality, the young woman had to get right back to work. Alix was a great singer, that much was certain, but the dancing bit posed a challenge. She had to make sure nothing was left up to chance: she requested to have the family’s concert piano moved to the private studio she had demanded that her parents rent for her so she could practice her steps with the shoes she was to wear for her performance. Her parents quickly agreed just so they (and their son) could finally get a break from hearing the same song repeatedly.

Alix was still coming down from the embarrassment of a bad fall she took when she slipped on the university’s piano during rehearsal with Teddy and the crew before they split up for the summer break. Thankfully, she was fine, save for her bruised ego. Never again, she told herself, hoping that this silent promise would seal the incident away in her mind, never to resurface again.

The minute she set foot back on campus, she texted Teddy immediately.

hi love, gather the troops! I want to get started asap 👏 the opening show is coming up very soon already. xx

hey gorgeous, why yes I’m doing fine, I had a great summer thx for asking. 😜 hahah 😉 sure, I’ll start a group txt.

oh shit, I’m so sorry… 🙃 glad to hear you had a good one. I did too. 🥳 we’ve got to catch up sometime this week!

but like, seriously they better be fucking ready, I busted my arse all summer to look my best on that stage and I don’t want anything to get in our way. 👿

knowing you, I don’t doubt it. 🫡 don’t worry babe, we’re gonna tear it up I promise ya. ppl are gonna go wild, trust me. I got u. 😎 xx

The two and a half weeks the group disposed of before the opening showcase were entirely dedicated to rehearsals to polish everything from the first note to the last step. Eight dancers were to perform by Alix’s side, but two of them dropped out at the last moment before they reunited to pick up where they had left off. Alix started to panic since the pair was the one who danced the closest to her and with whom she interacted the most. Thank fucking God for Teddy, Alix thought. He was the best director she could have asked for to make sure she looked nothing short of brilliant for her number. He whipped up a solution to make it look as if they hadn’t been fucked over by these two goddamned quitters whatsoever. This guy was going places in the industry for sure, he was so resourceful and inventive in stressful times, even though he sometimes struggled managing his emotions in the process. He was someone you could count on, unlike those two idiots. Alix considered revenge, though she ultimately let it go after Teddy reasoned with her and reminded her she could be subjected to disciplinary action if people were onto her, which they surely would be, because everyone was already aware of her potential for that kind of trickery after witnessing a few pranks she had orchestrated with her classmate slash partner in crime, Patrick Moore. And goodness knows Alix didn’t need any more notes in her file.

Now, Chicago wasn’t one of the most popular musicals of all time for nothing, and Teddy knew exactly what to do to honour its grandiosity in his own special way. Muse University’s production team stopped at nothing to ensure their performance would look as great as it should: the outfits were hand-tailored by the costume design students of the Fashion Arts department, the makeup was a skillful mix of the era’s staples with a modern spin to enhance each of the actors’ features and only the best of students from the Musical Arts department were selected to hit every single note perfectly on time every time.

Once she stood in front of a full body mirror in the dressing room to look at her colleagues’ work on herself, to say that Alix was elated would be a gross understatement; she nearly ruined her makeup from tearing up with excitement and pride. Now wasn’t the time, however. Her turn was coming up, and she had already been late once today, therefore she couldn’t afford to lag behind at this crucial time. She channeled her inner Velma Kelly as she strutted her way over to her designated place, going up in ten minutes to finally woo the audience. Despite being off duty for the show, Teddy was allowed to come backstage to surprise Alix before her performance and was waiting for her when she made it backstage; he made a quiet but expressive ‘wow’ as he took her hand into his to spin her around for a turn to look at her.

“Giiirl,” Teddy whispered, “I knew you were going to look killer, but you’re straight up gonna make them drop dead.”

Alix grinned as widely as her face would allow it. “Fuck yeah,” she whispered back with a giggle, “I’m so ready.”

Teddy gave her two thumbs up and two air kisses for each cheek to avoid ruining her makeup before sneaking back out of the auditorium.

A few moments later, after her dancing partners got into their respective positions and the final cues were given, the first notes of All That Jazz started playing and Alix took a deep breath in. There was a flirty, cheeky twinkle in her eye as the curtain rose, followed by a round of applause and cheers.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the Onyx Club is proud to present Chicago’s hottest dancing duo: two jazz babes moving as one, the Kelly sisters!”

Alix slightly puckered her lips as she began to sing in a sultry voice: “Come on babe, why don’t we paint the town… and all that jazz~”

Sitting at the piano, Dorian had his eyes glued to the keys and score he was playing, visibly nervous to be smack in the middle of the stage under the spotlight. As Alix slowly let herself slide down on top of the piano to lean over closer to him, expecting him to say the one and only line he was supposed to, he was so focused on playing that he forgot to deliver it. Alix thought for a split second: All you had to say is ‘skidoo’. How hard is it to say fucking skidoo?! Hmph. It wasn’t enough to get her to break character, thankfully. She knew better than that.

“Slick your hair and wear your buckle shoes… and all that jazz~”

So far, so good. Alix snatched the fake cigarette from one of the dancers’ mouths and kept on singing, putting the cigarette in another dancer’s mouth after they did a few bars’ worth of moves.

“Hold on hun, we’re gonna bunny hug, I bought some Aspirin down at United Drug~

In case you shake apart and want a brand-new start to do~ that~ jazz~”

People cheered as Alix and the other six dancers began the biggest bit of dancing in the entire number. The young actress was taking the crowd’s energy and radiated it back to them with every step. The rest of the performance went smoothly – not that anyone in the audience actually noticed the one “mistake” that had occurred – without any slipping, tripping or stuttering.

Alix had delivered the goods flawlessly, belting out the last “ja-a-a-aaaazz” before the actors’ last “that jazz!” and the final pose timed with the final note. The crowd roared with delight and people rose from their seats, clapping away for a good while before the performers swiftly exited the stage after which they all hugged each other and congratulated Alix for her outstanding work. She practically floated back to the dressing room from being so high off the adrenaline of the performance.

Alix couldn’t help but to frown as she slipped out of the beautiful dress she had worn for only a few minutes, sad to let go of the Velma Kelly she had worked on for so long. She wondered if the production team would let her keep the dress… maybe she could try to convince someone somehow after the showcase ended. About ten minutes later, once she had finished removing her makeup, she left the auditorium to go check out some of the exhibits scattered around her second home, the good ol’ Theatre Arts building. She had just started to check one piece of artwork when she heard someone speak behind her.

“Oh my goodness, were you the one who just did the Chicago piece? You did soooo good! I really liked your voice and how smoothly you moved! And that last note at the end, wow!”

Our actress turned around to look at the small wide-eyed woman who had one of the tiniest frames Alix had ever seen. She smiled broadly as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear in a semi timid gesture. “Aww, thank you so much, I’m flattered! So very sweet of you to say that. I take it you’re a fan of musicals? Chicago is one of my favourites! It’s so glamourous and sexy and feisty, don’t you think? Do you have any favourites? I haven’t seen you around here before, are you just visiting for today or do you study here?” And thus, the chatterbox busted open.

LUCILLE.

  • mood

    the rizz reaper.

Lucille’s mouth flooded with copper at the sound of it, only room for one mess in the showcase.

“You little–!” Ends it there, after the fissure had split an already fractured composure, ends it there after a terse step closer to Vincent. Ends it there, teeth gritted and stormy argument bruising the inside of her mouth, battering like a caged pigeon to pool the air between them.

Her shoulders almost hugged her ears, not quite, not yet resigned to red-bull fury, and the spindles of pale talon nails at her sides had since scrunched into fists, spading palms with crescent moons.

His repose had the idea slipping into her mind with the subtlety of a battering ram. Breaching the ramparts of her porcelain citadel with a plume of pinching splinters;

She could kill him.

Nobody was around and nobody would see, plausible to sink hands around the curve of Vincent’s throat and throttle him to death. Cremate the body in the ceramics kiln, stash the ashes inside one of his little pots and place him on her shelf for all eternity.

But that would not be very polite.

Or legal.

Manslaughter substituted for a downward curl of lips and serrated hiss, in this ouroboros loop of habit did nostalgic ire and tension unspool in her now relaxing hands. She’d entered the room embodying slack water, stagnant and without a pulling tide, yet at the very pindrop of his voice did rile a churn of oscillation. Rippling agitation and lapping with teeth, an acute needling she couldn’t shrug off as easy as a coat.

The potter annoyed her, this much was obvious. With all his childish whimsy, Luci saw him as the blueprint of little boys who chased girls with bugs just to see them scream.

With a long exhale the ballerina would smooth manicured nails down the front of her dress, petting temper back to its docile hollow. For the weight of her visitation was not poised upon catty remarks and blossoming blood pressure, but a simpler, subtler thing.

Affixing him once more with crossed arms and a reserved stare only to find his full attention lacking, intention to proffer faltered. Yet it was a distraction that absorbed all artists in their craft, an entrancement with their work.

Past the dowry curve of Vincent’s lashes did focus and drive emanate. The glaze and hands, although his disregard did irritate her, perhaps it was for the best he did not spare her a look. Postured like a bird of prey, austere and sponging any blots of joy from the room did her presence linger.

Luci was not creative, and she could not even pretend that there was a point to such frivolous activities. Perhaps it made her uncultured, that she couldn't care for Rembrandt or Matisse; art may as well have fallen on the eyes of a blind person.

She still observed others and their aptitude under studious gaze— or at least pretended to. But when her only excursion to embellish life with a flair of color was purchasing a sunset Live Laugh Love pillow, (she’d been quick to dispose of when it's saffron cotton got too obnoxious in her periphery), Lucille couldn’t stop how very displaced Muse University made her feel.

In Vincent’s artistic display came a sense of envy, a jealousy she couldn’t quite place nor restrain. Felt the nettle green awash her skin, felt the distance of glass floor and fog ceiling, a ribbon footed dream had wilt, severed the only connection she’d ever known like a knife through a loom. Frayed edges now struggling to tether onto something new, uneasiness held her hostage.

“You don’t look busy,” Luci began, trying to keep her voice steady, controlled. “You look lazy.” Unfolding an arm to raise a pinky, she’d curl it into a hook and lower her volume to condescending whisper, “like a pool noodle.”

It’s a hunt of intentions as she slowly steps closer to the occupied Vincent, drifting like a shadow to haunt the space beside him. Wax to the flame of a candle did her palm melt to the middle of his back, inhabiting the inches of separation.

“See? Noodley.”

The touch is easy to the curve of her hand, where the fabric of his obnoxious shirt settles on the swath of her skin. A spine of willow beam beneath a lilted palm, the warmth of his body rouses memory to the surface. Yet restlessness still thrummed her chest, the oncoming showcase still plaguing thoughts with worry.

Without too much effort does she gently ply the spine into something resembling a bone and not a wrung cloth, before the hand migrates north. Running like a spindle to settle just beneath the collar of his shirt. As crude as could be, she wouldn’t dishonour herself by dancing the topic with shy eyelash flutters and vague hints.

“You want to sleep with me?” Blunt. “Like, now.”

mathis

the designer

Very quickly, Mathis realised that Cain didn't recognise him from high school. At least, if he did, he didn't make it obvious. Mathis recognised Cain - it would be hard not to, when the man opposite him occupied far too many of Mathis' thoughts. Mathis struggled to make eye contact, staring down at their papers as they sorted them needlessly. They blushed at Cain's muttered compliment, annoyed by how much it pulled at his heartstrings.

He shook his head as Cain suggested that Mathis had planned their meeting. They should get a folder, Cain was right, and they weren't sure if they regretted not having one in this moment or not. Matty's nerves must have been evident, judging by the way that Cain suggested he could take something for his nerves. Mathis shook his head a little.
"I, uh, prefer not to drink or... take anything beforehand. I want to be at my best state of mind."

Mathis' eyes drifted to the third person who approached them, a small, nasty feeling of jealousy settling in his stomach, which Mathis tried to ignore. He blinked at the words that spilled out of Tobias' mouth, not totally sure what to say in response. He clutched his papers close to his chest and simply watched the pair.
"I did"
, he confirmed to Tobias, trying to look as little judgmental as possible (he failed).
"Sorry, are you two about to perform?"
He asked, ready to take his leave in case he was in the way.

Paola

Before stepping onto the stage, a ballerina often experiences a mixture of excitement and nervousness. The idea of being able to showcase all your training and being welcomed with the ovation of the public was like music to the ears of every dancer. But in that moment Juliet felt like the stage was bigger than everything else and that she was just a shadow next to the brightening stars of Muse University.

Maybe that was the reason she talked to Paola without giving it a second thought; to try to believe that if she was close to her, she could bright in the slightest way, for Juliet even shining like a slight sparkle would meant like the world to her at that moment.

Paola’s words were gentle, making the worried ballerina to smile lightly, believing that what the actress said was true even if in Juliet’s mind there was always this voice telling her that she was never enough, that she would never be enough.

“I know. Everyone tells me that. But I can’t help it. I guess you can say it’s a bad habit of mine.”
The girl said, embarrassed at her lack of confidence.

“The uni wouldn’t have accepted you if they didn’t think you were capable, hun. But you are. That stage is yours just as much as it is ours. And the folks out there are waiting to see you shine.” Paola added, making Juliet to start believing even for a bit that she was right. Maybe she had that light to shine on stage or maybe she was just the quota that they needed to have of no rich kids, no she couldn’t think like that. She had to believe that she was capable of at least making it through the showcase.

You got this, I know you do. Use those nerves to your advantage and push them all into your hands and feet. You have a whole auditorium rooting for you.”

Paola was right. Juliet needed to use those nerves and show everyone that she had talent and to get that confidence back.
“Thank you. I really needed those words.”
The ballerina said with a light smile.
“You know, if you don’t have anything to do afterwards and even though there’s still a few numbers before my performance. But would you mind staying to see me perform? My friends are busy with their own stages and I am not sure where my little brother is, so I don’t have a lot of people to be there for me, you don’t have to if you don’t want I know you must be busy. Sorry for bothering you.”

the lingering tension of anticipation from the crowd behind her could still be felt dancing across the back of paola's exposed neck. regardless of whether or not it showed physically, she understood the overwhelming pressure that came with performing on such a grand stage. suddenly, months of hard work could melt away, leaving one feeling exposed and very unprepared for their turn. but paola's empathy shone through her gentle words offering comfort and reassurance to her anxious newfound friend.

"believe me, i understand where you're coming from. there's not a single performance that i can remember where i didn't feel like puking my guts out,"
paola empathized, a slight chuckle leaving her lips at the nostalgia.

even if just by a tinge, juliet's worrisome expression seemed to be replaced by palpable gratitude, and the brunette couldn't help but smile. it was visible that she started to believe, even if only for a moment, that juliet possessed the light to shine on the same stage they shared. however, some doubt continued to linger as paola cocked her head to the side gently, listening to the wavering request that seemed to spill at the rate of molasses from its bottle.

"...would you mind staying to see me perform?" she had asked, a mix of hope and apprehension lingering within her tone of voice.

paola could feel her heart swell in her chest slightly with warmth, and almost as if it never left, a beaming grin reappeared on her face once more.

"no no-! don't be sorry. of course, i'll stay. i'd love to watch you perform.,"
as if alerted, suddenly the theater major looked down at her attire, the reminder of it's itchiness resurfacing.
"as soon as i'm out of this costume, that is. i can't wait to get into my own clothes."

    first weekend.

    T
he Opening Showcase went off without a hitch! After being gone for the summer, it was a nice refresher for everyone to get back into their element and reconnect with old friends. Students in the Visual and Digital arts had an outstanding amount of engagement with their projects, while the Music and Theatre students continuously received roaring applause. Sprinkle in the Literature students who did a marvelous job at showing off their writing skills throughout the whole night, you can almost for sure look passed the hookups that happened throughout the evening. Of course, how could we forget the fashion show; As it was a wonderful grand finale as always. The Opening Showcase did a fantastic job at helping set the tone to kick off the new school year!

    This skip is now closed.

It's been a full week of classes at Muse, and no matter how difficult they've been, the students will have some well-deserved free time! A lot of returning students tend to have plans to fully reconnect with friends from the previous year, ambitious students have plans to shack up in the library to get some studying and homework done & first time students are more than ready to officially explore the campus themselves.

Whatever students plan to do, it's a perfect day to do so! This Sunday happens to be a beautiful day, the sun is out and shining with just a few fluffy, white clouds scattered throughout the sky to provide occasional shade. It's as if the day itself knows there's a whole school full of students ready to enjoy it.

Some featured locations around campus include (pls refer to the ooc discord for visuals of these locations!):
Muse UniversiTea: The coziest campus cafe! What started as a quaint little boba shop has now expanded to offer different teas, coffees, pastries, and even little deli sandwiches! An incredibly inviting space for any and all students, not just to study and hang out, but to even work on campus to earn money.
Terra Garden: Named after Kimberly Terra, the founder of the gardening club at Muse, the Terra Garden has grown into a beautiful and spacious indoor garden, where various flowers, plants, and even trees grow year round. Students don't have to be a part of the gardening club to enjoy the garden, many students go in on their own and plant flowers or help take care of other plants, it's a very tranquil place.
Harmonix Junction: What Fine Arts school isn't complete without their very own music store! Harmonix may look like a run-down hole in the wall, but it's one of the most charming spots on Muse, home to many diamonds in the rough! Complete with records, cds, instruments, and other misc. gear any musician would need. Harmonix also offers students a chance to earn money on campus.
Curtain Call Diner: Being built in the 50s, this diner gives the classic restaurant experience all day long! Starting strong with classic breakfast foods like pancakes, waffles and bacon, then making a transition over into lunch and dinner throughout the day. They're best known for their french toast, so i've heard!
La Pallina: The ice-cream parlor that's wayyyy better than ice cream. It's a simple little shop that serves more flavors that you thought possible!
