Scarlett glanced over her shoulder as her two brothers wandered off in the direction of the digital arts displays. Her heart warmed in her chest at the sight of them, and she couldn't be more happy that they got to see her first project presented to the entire university. She wondered if her professors were over there. They would surely want to talk about it, maybe criticize it a bit or offer feedback, but she didn't mind either way. She would take whatever she could get. Her fingers itched to smooth out her dress again as she weaved among the growing crowd.
She didn't have the opportunity to go to the showcase last year due to a scheduling conflict that her mother demanded she go to. Some photoshoot that had ended up not being nearly as important as Fiona had said. It resulted in some lackluster photos by a lackluster photographer. The only reason her mother demanded was because he was some famous man's son. Got to please the people, right?
Scarlett rolled her eyes as she finally squeezed through the crowd of people into the classroom her display was in. She beamed again at the sight of it. The paperbacks were starting to dwindle and it seemed that people were standing around talking about it. She scanned them all, looking for her professors, but her eyes caught on one boy, man, in particular. He appeared to be transfixed on her transcript, eyes hooded and face set in firm concentration. She didn't recognize him, so he best fairly new, or in a department she didn't interact with often.
She wandered over to him, clasping her hands in front of her. She slid up next to him, finally getting a better look at his face. She smiled to herself, he was cute looking so focused. Propping a hip against the table, Scarlett offered him a small smile in greeting.
She was used to walking stages and posing in front of a camera. Her best work was done when she was adored. Here, though, she was more vulnerable. The story was a peek into who she was, how talented she was. It was a display of unseen skill, something that people would judge based on what they comprehended not on what they saw. It was nerve-wracking. But, she thought again, he seemed entralled. It soothed her confidence a bit, and her smile brightened.

"Enjoying it so far?"
