Mission 04: Waaagh! Bonebreaka [One Man Army]

Your arrival on this small imperial world is entirely without fanfare -- a plain lander, and absolutely nothing to give you away as Astartes, at least on the outside of your lander. Obviously, on the inside things are entirely different. Most of the cargo hold is, after all, consumed with two heavily armoured and absolutely massive motorcycles.

Unloading is quick, and you see not far distant the mountains that make up your mission area.

OOC- whomever is carrying the cartograph, make a Navigation: Surface test (Intelligence) with a +10 modifier.

Krieg mutters a toneless chant to the machine god as he handles the cartograph.

OOC:

Nav:Surface check (Int 48, +10 from cartograph)

The cartograph reveals two potential routes. One cuts through the valley almost durectly to the marker indicating the teams last known location. The route, however, is lightly forested, which may be a hindrance to bike travel.

The other route skirts the valley along the base of the mountain. Fewer trees, but longer route.

Which way do you go?

"We have a choice of two routes - one, " Krieg's arm shoots out to point at the first heading, "more directly leads to the Kill Team's last location, and takes us through the valley's heart. The path is lightly forested which may slow us."

His arm swivels to show the second heading and he continues, "The second takes us around the forest along the mountain base, but is considerably longer. Difficult to say which will take the lesser amount of time. The first route may also hold greater risk of exposure to Ork patrols, which may further slow us."

OOC- Taking Tarlocke as an NPC until Rowgen posts again in order to keep the game running.

IC -

"Which route do you think best, brother?" Tarlocke asked.

OOC: Sorry, didn't get notified.

"Then we must be ready for ork ambushes," he concluded. "Very well. Let us move," Tarlocke said and mounted his bike.

As you enter the lightly forested area, you realize the terrain is slightly denser than the cartograph led you to believe.

Both, make a Drive (ag) test

OOC- Apologies for the delay. I had a massive exam on friday and I spent the weekend working like a lunatic.

IC- Your skill on the bike allfows you to navigate the forested area with little difficulty or loss of speed. Before long you notice trees decorated with orkish fetishes, and you know you are in there territory claimed by the Waaagh!.

OOC- Scrutiny tests for both. These are hearing tests, so +20 applies. I rule that your helmet auto senses can filter out the noise if the bikes.

OOC- I should have asked for awareness, but as the tests are the same it is not a huge deal.

IC- as you go zipping through the trees you notice several poorly concealed orks. It looks like they were waiting in ambush, but failed to spring it fast enough to catch you. You are past them. You nay keep going or turn around and take care of the orks.

"Inconsequential," Tarlocke said through gritted teeth. "But if you wish it, we could go back." He was clearly reluctant to leave.

"It is not our primary objective, I agree," Krieg responds, unconsciously checking the clips racked into the twin-linked bolters mounted on his bike.

OOC:

Taking as close a look as possible from a moving bike I want to check out the Ork markers. Any Space Marine heads or articles in there?

Including a roll, if needed. Though it's a bad one...

You do not notice any space marine objects on the totems; they seem to be a semblance of an orkish face, adorned in all manner of spikes, but without a lot of trophies.

As the pair of you rush onward you heae a massive bellowed "Waaaagh!" emanating from somewhere ahead of you. Suddenly it seems the forest is alive with traps and orks!

OOC- ride test for both of you, no penalties.

Tarlocke managed to dodge the traps sprung by the orks, but as Krieg swerved he laid the bike down and slid along the forest floor.

With barbaric hoots the orks closed in.

OOC- roll Acrobatics to get free of the bike. Failure means you need to spend an action getting it off you, and you count as prone.

After Krieg rolls acrobatics, its time for initiative
