Matt seems like a good guy and the bassist I'm writing up is supposed to be a bit of a jerk. Maybe there's tension, but at the end of the day they're friends?

Well, Matt would never really call somebody out, so he´d more likely try to calm everyone when there is tension. He´d still be there for the bassist, no matter what and would treat him as a good friend. ^^ Matt is like that, whats why he is easy to use and exploit.
