~Memories Cafe~

"it reminds me of..." but she stopped herself before she could speak. Leaning back on her chair sighing as night sky looked down on her. "I remember parts and pieces of a dream when I hear this song..a plain Jane who struggles to fit in..a cheating boyfriend..then blood everywhere.." she had a single tear fall. "it makes me feel sad for her.."

Cory looked up towards her room. "i have my memories. sometimes i wish i didnt." his chest hurt again.

After settling down, she went to her room and looked at the picture in her pocket as she clenched it. "I'll keep my memories of you Naku, even if they hurt me... I will become stronger to enjoy the perf-..." were her mother's last words that echoed through her head. Naku's eyes were shadowed with tears as she said, "I'll become stronger too, so I'll enjoy those small moments I spent with you mom..." She looked at her father in the photo and thought of his words, "I want you to know that, we've used to think you were useless and a disgrace; we thought wrong, Naku, you are the happiest momen-" She began to cry harder as she clenched her fists harder. "I was a disgrace, I still am. Getting no where, not being able to fullfill their wishes." She rubbed her eyes and noticed that it was getting late, perfect time for the news to be on. She turned on the Tv and smiled. "Something we used to-" 'BREAKING NEWS, A woman was brutally beat until her death. Her name is Naku Kanter. Her body is currently sitting in the hospital, unclaimed. If a witness knows who did it please contact the police asap.' Naku's eyes widen as they showed a picture of her. Her eyes widened and she said, "I'm dead...?"

Cory yawned. "well goodnight." he said to maxine. he walked up to his apartment and put his guitar away. he pulled the silk pouch from his pocket and a book from the drawer next to his bed. her set the pouch down and opened the book. there was a newspaper clipping inside the old book. Cory sat and read it quietly. "there has been another victim to cancer this month. at the beginning of the month, a young man was planning to propose to his girlfriend of 3 years. he entered her house to find her collapsed on the floor. she was rushed to the hospital, where it was confirmed she had a cancerous tumor in her brain. she died in the hospital three days later. it has also been confirmed that a few weeks later the boy committed suicide in the icy lake." Cory slammed the book. "it wasnt suicide!" he yelled. he threw the book against the far wall and it hit with a loud thud. "i was pushed.!" he fell to his knees, tears of pain and anger threatened to overflow.

Maxine heard him leave she was too awake to sleep now after her nightmare. Milly could be heard next to her making noises as she walked around Milly entered her bed and cried it all out, for tomorrow she would not dwell on it. "to the moon..in the stars...like a memory..fades away...left to yersterday.." Maxine sang in a lullaby state feeling the cold air she stood wrapped up walking in when she heard a loud noise comin from corys apartments sighing wih a sad face she went in doing nothing about it. If only she didn't know that maybe she would of tried to heal his heart. She showered instead and walked out dressed in shorts and a tank flipping on the news. Her hands had cuts on her wrists thinking nothing of it for the were all up her arms as I she was hurt. The news was on but she didn't pay attention much. "..stupid.." She muttered thinking about the things she would do tommorrow. "I can talk to him more..that's not against the rules.." why couldn't she get close to anyone was beyond her.

Cory took a breath. he picked up the book and tucked the newspaper clipping inside, as it had fallen out when he threw the book. throwing a fit wouldnt do him any good. he looked at the book, it was a worn, old, barely pocket sized, hard cover New Testament. She had given it to him, it was a present when they had started going out. no matter how much he wanted to scream, he knew it wouldn't bring her back. All he had left was himself, he would continue his music and live as he did before he met her, because if he let himself become attached to anyone he would only be hurt again.

As they came upon the apartments, Faith slowed her pace a bit. "thank you for walking me home." she smiled at her companion, "i do appreciate it."

Milly awoke the next day, she dressed and left carrying new menus for the cafe."Maxi your rather late..couldn't sleep again?" miaxine was dragging her feet yet agian for the 2 time this week, the thoughts of why filled her mind. "why is it I cannot talk or get to k ow Cory..did the mysterious man tell you my true fate?" she barely knew anything about who she really could be. Milly looked away as they walked up the street towards the cafe passing many early risers prepping for the days work. "maxi it's the rule..you can't fall in love it's dangerous for you.." she had dreamt of the man telling her bits and pieces of maxis past.

They arrived the cooks were in already with the su Chef given a key. Milly made her way upstairs to change out the menus while Maxine got her puffs out and helped prep. Soon the others would trail in and the flower lady with her weekly delivery of fresh flowers for there tables.

Cory made his way to the shop, his usual frown set on his face. He walked in, his guitar over his shoulder and looked and notified everyone that he was there. He found his perch on stage and playyed a light peppy song, though his heart wasn't in the music today.

Faith opened her shop early in the morning as usual. She made a cup of tea as she wonderedabout the kind gentleman from the night before.

Naku awoke, on her couch with tons of newspapers by her side. "That's right. I reaad every single one. I'm not in any of them." She growled and grabbed her uniform to change, and get ready for work.

She got to work and scolded a customer who was taking a long time to order. "Hurry up al'eady! I haven't got all day y'know!" He quickly ordered and Naku walked away and said, "Damn slow poke."

"Naku..please try to be a little bit nice to the patrons.." milly stood at the railing not really mad but hoping that she could earn tips.Maxine peaked from her spot behind the window at cory," he is not playing like he should.." watching him as always from the shadows she continued to serve up orders as they became ready.

Cory played out a jazzy cafe style tune, one he knew quite well. back when he actually had some passion in him he used to spin whatever came from his heart, but now he just played whatever he had memorized.

Faith sat around, rather bored. it was a quiet day at the flower shop and she decided to start a new book. she pulled a book off her shelf and took a sip of her tea.

"Maxine I heading to the shop for flowers!" she waved off heading out through the door her jacket on bag around her shoulder she walked,"such a nice day today~" taking in the air Milly Mae passed by people in the market, waving and discussing the days event she heard murmurs of what the tv said last night,"ehh who died?" she felt an eerie presence but saw nothing. like death lurking in the shadow. the flower shop was straight ahead, she walked in."hello?" she looked around

Faith walked out into the main part of the store. "hello, what types of blooms might you be looking for?" she smiled cheerfully.

"Im looking for something happy that will bring a smile to a person's face. You know what I mean?" she had a smile on her face shaking off the over looming feeling of dread.

Faith thinks a moment then makes a bouquet of small, white, bell shaped lilies. "these are called the Lily of the Valley. the signify a return to happiness." she smiled gently and handed her the flowers. "giving them to a friend?" she asked.

"there very beautiful!"smiling she smelled them,"for my costumes..I place them in the table so when they leave or go it makes them smile." she took out her money,"do you think you can deliver 50 more orders by the end of the week?" she would place these by the registrar for Maxine. Feeling sorry for not giving her a areas on as to why she can't seek Cory's attention. Fearful for her cutting again if she ever got that sad. The images of her true past..scared her.

Faith smiled, "of course, spreading happiness is part of my job." she wrote a few things down. she took the money and gave her the change. "could i get then address?"

She laughed it would be helpful and took out a pen and paper,"this is the address just come in thru the front and ask for Milly or Maxine.." she handed it too her," thank you! The costumers will be happy."

"its no problem!" Faith took the paper and pinned it up. "i will get working on this right away!" she happily began finding make shift vases and putting together bouquets. "there will stay fresh awhile so it should be fine to start early, we will discuss the bill when i deliver the flowers.

"okay thank you!" she rushed out with the flowers meeting with the other vendors gathering supplies."yea send it to the cafe thanks. Yea over there pretty arEnt they.." she had bags Of Fresh fruit and veggies as she made her way to the cafe,"I'm back!"

Cory glanced over as Millie ran back in to the shop. he shrugged and went back to playing jazzy tunes. he wasnt sure why but it seemed to be his mood. jazz was as close as he could get without playing the blues.

"took you awhile I'm swamped..here give me the flowers they need ya upstairs there is a request for a birthday song from Cory.." she took out a base filling it and arranging them. "perfect..." she looked at cory,"can you do a song..with feeling? Honest fellings.." she touched his heart and had a weak smile. Her mind had a flash of pain hit her. Milly set the things down and made way upstairs,"yes...we can do that..okay.." she walked into the top back area shouting for a cake and sighed.

Cory hesitated, "sure." the jazzy tune he was playing melted into a classy, timeless blues tune. he sang with feeling this time. he hoped that he wasnt being depressing, he made it point not bring unnecessary feelings to work. he missed the days when he sang passionately out of happiness. but somehow he couldnt find it in himself to smile when the one who loved him was dead.

The girl smiled happily sitting there hearing his music fill the whole building, Maxine stepped back crossing her arms holding herself as a customer called for her she seems lost in thought yet she was taking orders and clipping it to the circle. Heading to the fridge she took out her strawberry puffs for Cory with some fries and walked out,"here eat..please.." her face want sad nor was it upset it was a crow between lost in thought and normality, what ever that meant. "..I don't know why your always fake it but I kinda have that Same feeling..only problem I'm not sure if it's mine or my previous self.."

Milly busy upstairs was dining happy birthday with other employees, laughing she went back and helped out with the orders and cooking. "I got it don't worry Hun!" taking the plate she spotted maxi startled for only a moment before she was on her way.

Cory finished the song and had a serious expression. "i have no reason to show my real self. theres too much pain. pain is weakness." he took a bite of one of the strawberry puffs. they tasted as great as they always did. somehow he never got tired of the puffs. "whenever i let up to anything, especially good things i always get hurt. doesnt matter who i was or who i am, as long as i dont get hurt again."
