Iann sighed as he started yet another 24-hour shift at Pineview Medical Center, where he'd worked for the past four years in the emergency department as the head physician. He poured some piping hot coffee and put his usual fixings in it; French vanilla creamer. The staff had learned to supply it after Iann went one shift without coffee because he didn't have his creamer. It was the only way he'd have his coffee.


He practically lived in the hospital now, though, being the head and on-call physician.


He pulled on his labcoat and walked to the nurses' station, running a hand through his dark hair, tousling it.

Ketzia walked into the hospital in blue scrubs and tennis shoes. She sighed and clocked in. The lead Nurse who works the day shifts told her what was going on. She nodded and thanked her. She looked at who was on tonight. " I see He is on again great Thanks Tina. Have a good night enjoy that Fiance and baby." She said. She got ready for a hopefully slow night. She madly her way to the Nurses station and went through the files she had on the desk.She looks up when Iann walks up."On again tonight, do you ever go home.Though however same could be said for me, so I shouldn't talk."She said with a small smile.

"I live in the ceiling. Don't you know?" Iann grinned and joked, flashing a smile at Ketzia.


He leaned against the station as he sipped at his coffee, and looked Ketzia over with his bright blue gaze. She was mad, he concluded. But why?

Ketzia laughed at his joke."oh right I forgot" she said. Ketzia was fixing her hair as she worked on the files.She looked up as she grabbed her coffee and files."Yes?"She asked with a raised Eyebrow. "You okay?" She asked him her hazel eyes looked him over. As she grabbed what she needed for rounds." Following me on rounds today?"She asked him.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Iann said, looking at Ketzia. "Why not? I don't have any of my own yet." He said, setting down his coffee, smiling at Ketzia, blue eyes bright as ever.

She Laughed" alright come on."She says. She walked along her rooms. She checked on each patient and smiled. She talked to them nicely. The patients enjoyed her and joked with her. When she finished with her rounds and was walking back to the Nurses station her phone went off and she looked at ignoring it. "So Tell me Doctor rather be spending your nights here with us nurse's? " dont have any where better to be?"She asks him with a small smile. She was still annoyed, but it was going away talking to him.

"Yeah, don't have anything to come home to. Or a home." Iann looked at Ketzia. "Besides, you are much prettier to look at." He flirted with a winning grin. He did so with all of the nurses.

She rolled her eye's" nice try."She said and shook her head. She Laughed and went to grab some coffee she sipped it and leaned on the counter as she wrote in a file. She finished and sighed she pulled out her phone and listened to the messages. She frowned and deleted them.She went to turn to talk to him and looked up as an ambulance brought in a patient. She ran over and put gloves on. She asked what it was that was wrong. They told her and she asked for a crash cart and went to work. When she got the patient stabilized she got the chart and looked over it. She was working side by side with him. She handed him the chart and stood at his side as they looked it over.

Iann looked at the chart.


Ventricular fibrillation. Unknown cause. Sudden onset. Respiratory distress. Iann looked up, listening to the patient's lungs.


"Hemopneumothorax." He murmured. "Ketzia, scalpel and intubation kit. Iodine and push morphine." He said quickly.

She nods." Yes doctor. She went and got it all for him. She handed him the tray full of Items. Ketzia followed his instructions as he gave them.

Iann sterilized the area between the patient's fourth and fifth rib, then cut through his skin and parietal pleura, and finally into his lung, pushing in the chest tube. He stitched the tube to the man's skin, bright blue eyes focused. He tied it off and pushed away the cart with the tray on it. "O2 increasing. 95." He said, and kept an eye on his vitals.

Ketiza watched breathing. She kept her eye's on the vitals as they rose.She looked in his eyes. She watched making sure he got stable. When he was she walked out grabbing a few things m sge leaned on the counter with a frown as she filled out the paperwork. She looked up when another came in this time a rape victim. She told them room to and grabbed the kit. She sighed tonight was going to be a busy night.

Iann sighed as he heard yet another patient come in screaming, probably drunk. He shook his head and ran to examine the patient, dragging Ketzia with him. His white lab coat billowed behind him, and his stethoscope hit his chest.


He met the paramedics, and they told him she was an intoxicated GSW to the right flank.

She sighed"you got this I have a kit in 2 I have to do."She said. She left his side and did her kit.She gave it to the officer's and told them what she found. Around 3 in the morning it slowed down patient in 1 had crashed a few times. She sat at the Nurses station and was filling out the paperwork. She looked up as he walked over. "Yes?" She asked

Iann had handled the drunken patient. She'd gone into surgery for her bullet wound.


He'd had to save the crashing patient, but eventually put on an external pacemaker for him after shocking at least four times, and he was waiting for surgery now to get a permanent pacemaker.


Iann now ran a hand through his hair and sat beside her. "God. This night has been chaotic." He breathed, closing his eyes.

She Laughed and nodded. "That it has been dear."She said and Leaned back in the chair finishing paper work.She sighed and closed her eye's." Well I will be in the on call room trying to grab some sleep."She says. She got up and walked to the on call room. She was trying to catch a few winks of sleep. She had her arms crossed and her eye's closed. She knew someone come get her if she was needed.

Iann watched her leave with a sigh, closing his eyes and relaxing for a moment.

Ketzia slept for about 30 mins before a nurse got her. She got up and went back to work. She sighed when it was finally time to go home. She grabbed her stuff let the nurse know what she needed to and clocked out. She spotted Iann and nods." Hey you getting off or no?"she said

"Does it matter?" Iann sighed. He ran a hand through his hair. He still had seven hours left in his shift.

Ketzia sighed. " was just asking, want me to bring you anything your treat since you make more."she said jokingly. She watched him and shook her head."well if nothing have Good rest of your shift" she said

"Good day." She said. By the time she left it 9 in the morning. She sighed and went home. At home she showered and fell asleep her phone was on vibrate. Ketzia was off for the next week so it was nice. She would go in if needed, but she had gotten a vacation and would take it.

Iann didn't do much the rest of the night. There were a few different strokes or heart attacks, but nothing worse than that.

Ketzia woke to her phone going off. She sighed and answered. " Hello?"She said tiredly. "Iann? What's going on?"She asked. She was so tired.

"Ketzia, I need you to come in now. We're overloaded now. In the past hour, we've had at least seventeen come in. All critical. Get over here." Iann's deep voice was strained, and he sounded absolutely exhausted.
