StartingOver

Two Thousand Club
Basic Idea is this is a Rp in the future when the Flock has kids. A organization is hunting them so they were protected by the flock. Now the kids want to find their parents.

(Let's go!)

"You have to stay hunny!"

"But Mommy why?"

"Just stay and protect them."

Jess's eyes fluttered open as she looked up at her ceiling fan. She has been having dreams about her mother more then ever now. She has kicked her covers off in the night and lay flat on her back in her pjs which was a big night shirt. She groaned and rolled out of bed and into her bathroom.

Claire was already up. The bird kid was cooking breakfast. She had her earphones in and turned up as always. She hummed the tune as she slapped some bacon on the skillet.

Crystal-like hues shot open, soft downs of red hair slashing across his vision. He'd been awaken by the soft cries of his roommate, a small boy with light hair. The other stirred in his sleep, a nightmare caking his face with sweat. The eldest rose from his bed, a pair of blue boxers being his night-clothing. He lifted a pale hand onto the boy's shoulder, causing goldenrod eyes to shoot open, and a death-grip to fall over his hand. "Jesus fuck." Gage whispered, quickly letting go of the somber-faced teen's knuckles. "You scared me." The younger male whispered, sitting up in his makeshift bed; a nest of blankets on a thin trampoline in the corner of the room.

Tate sighed slightly. "You were having a nightmare." He murmured softly, and pulled a pair of black trousers over his legs, buttoning them under his navel. The smell of bacon made Gage's mouth water, his ruffled feathers strewn along the nest. He lifted himself from his bed, already clothed in a pair of basketball shorts and a tight white T-shirt.

The boys walked down the hall, catching a quick glance at Jess before she sleepily wandered into her bathroom. "'Morning Jess." They both replied in synch, like a record being played over and over again. It had been weeks since their parent's disappearance, and they all had decided to shack up in Jess's parent's house, in hopes someone would turn up eventually.

"Mmm. Smells great." Tate pointed out, placing his hand gently on his sister's shoulders to let his presence be known.

Claire smiled and leaned back into Tate.

"Hello Brother." She paused her song and looked back at him.

"Jess was tossing and turning I couldn't sleep so I decided to cook." She gave a smile and pointed to the counter.

"Eggs and biscuits are done help yourselfs."

Jess changed into jeans and her red tank top. She slipped a jacket over her toroso and walked out into the kitchen. Jess looked out at her flock and gave a smile.

"Morning!" She sat down at the table and glanced over.

"What's up for today?"

Gage took a biscuit before being offered one, shoving half into his mouth and placing two eggs on his plate. He glanced up as Jess walked in, exclaiming another 'goodmorning' around a face-full of pastry.

Tate patted his sister on the shoulder, sharing her sleep-less night. "Gage had a nightmare as well." He sighed, stealing a piece of bacon that had been drying on a paper towel. "Woke up to his wailing a few times." Half a biscuit came flying at the back of his head, but he turned around in time to catch it between his teeth. He raised his eyebrows at the younger male, who stared into his plate with a sulking expression on his face.

"We need to go on another run, we're running low of supplies." Tate exclaimed towards Jess, his head poking in the pantry to the left of the kitchen. The fridge's contents were also barren, a carton of eggs and half a jug of orange juice staring Tate in the face as he checked their stock.

He glanced sideways at Jess, her blond curls bouncing as she sat down. "My sis' is a great cook, but I don't think we can survive on eggs, a can of beans, and half a jug of orange juice." He chuckled to himself. "Not the way Gage eats."

"Hey!"

"I take that as a challenge!" Claire said grinning. She finished up and put the bacon on the table.

"We can always sell Gage, I'm sure the school would pay a pretty penny." she giggled and gave a heartfelt smile at Gage.

"But then again who would eat all my cooking!"

Jess giggled at Claire.

"Such a sweetheart we will get all Claire Bear needs to cook." Jess stood and nodded for Tate to follow. As she passed she gently squeezed Gage's shoulder.

"Nightmare's suck." before walking back to her parents room.

She paused at the door before walking in and going to the safe to grab a few bucks.

Gage folded his arms across his chest, a deep scowl clear across his brow. His lightly speckles feathers were a mess, adding to his bed-head making him look like he'd lost a few years of sleep. He smiled gently as Jess tried to console him, but turned back towards Claire with the frown deepened. "I'd go for more money then you're worth." He muttered, chewing on bacon.

Tate followed close behind, his light grey wings tucked tightly against his bare back. He hadn't laughed at their jokes this morning, his face sullen. He had a small pang of concern in his eyes, but he had trained himself to hide it from the smaller-ones early on. As soon as they stepped into Jess' parent's bedroom, he closed the door behind him, pressing his back against the door. He let his facade slip, sadness apparent in his intense eyes.

"Jess..." He spoke softly, a lump in his throat. "It's been weeks. If they were going to come back they would have by now."

Jess took out a hundred dollar bill and stood placing it in her pocket.

"I know." she said softly looking back at him. She pointed to the desk behind him. There was a letter sitting on it.

"Mom wanted to leave us in the dark, but grandpa Jeb didn't(Idk if you read that far but Jeb turns out to be Max's dad.). Jess sat on the bed.

"They are protecting us, from another school like entity, that wants us." Jess ran her hands through her hair.

(( I knew that lol. My cousin has actually read ALL the Max series.))

Tate let his eyes wander from her dark, brooding, and strong eyes to the letter that sat opened on the desk. He let out a low sigh, remembering stories his father use to tell him. Horror tales of electric-induced mazes, breathing tubes, experiments, and all sorts of skin-crawling atrocities. He grabbed the letter, turning it over and over in his hands trying not to believe what he was hearing. But it was true. "We can't let them die." he said, taking a seat next to her. He was a full head taller then Jess, and his scarred skin noted he'd gotten into a few scrimmages during his time as a "normal" teenage boy. His parents wanted him, and his sister, to have a normal-ish life. That meant attending a regular educating school, which hadn't gone on as well as they'd hoped.

Tate rested his head on Jess' shoulder, his forefingers pressing on the corners of the envelope. "We can't live like this forever."

Jess wrapped her arm around him.

"The last thing she said was to protect you all." Jess said softly. "So that's what I'll do no matter what cost." Jess closed her eyes and fought back tears.

"But... I don't know what to do..." she put her face in her hands. The note had been in the room for a week and it had stressed her out to no end.

"I ...I want to help them, but I can't risk you guys." Jess was breaking down in front of Tate.

"I don't know what to do." she repeated.

A rush of emotions flowed over Tate all at once. The first, confusion, because seeing Jess cry was one of the rarest things that had ever been shown to him. The last time he'd remembered seeing tears in her dark eyes, was when they were kids and she scraped her knee after falling off her bike. He'd rushed to her 'aid' placing a hello-kitty band-aid over the small injury and handing her some soft candies his mother had bought for their play-date. The second was anger. The discomfort and trauma that had been laced over the small flock burned brightly in his chest, he wanted nothing more then to hurt whoever caused them so much pain. "It's okay." he murmured, his voice soft against her blond hair. He wrapped his arms around her, letting his fingers run through her locks to try and calm her sobs. "We'll get through this, okay?" he breathed, rocking her gently.

The third that crashed around in his chest was a tight feeling that gnawed at his heart.

"You're not alone. We're all in this together, remember?"

Jess couldn't help herself, it was all just flowing out of her. All of the stress, all of the worrying and torment and most of all the feeling of having to be alone in her pain to protect the others. It was all being unleashed and Jess couldn't stop it, she was sobbing like a baby into his chest.

Claire almost kicked the door open. "Jess!" she ran in...

"Oh god... Jess..." Claire looked stunned watching Jess sob uncontrollably. She spotted the letter and snatched it up. She walked to the light and started to read it.

Tate's icy eyes darkened, a murky deep-ocean blue flashing daggers at both of the younger fledglings. "Not now." he said in a harsh hushed tone to his sister. The constant flow of Jess's sobs soaking into his skin. Her tears were causing his rage to flare, her shaking body grasped tightly to his own.

Gage raced in after Clair. "Hey what's that?" He asked, snatching the page from her fingers before she could finish reading it. He began to sift through the words, stopping only when Tate's voice had raised above a comfortable level. "I said not now!" his tone was poisonous, the room growing slightly cold, tension building up in the dark corners.

Gage let the letter fall to the floor, having read enough. "You knew?"

"Gage, get out."

"You knew!? When were you going to tell us!?"

Claire picked up the letter and finished reading it. Her eyes grew dark and piercing as they fell on Jess.

She opened her mouth to yell when she stopped. Her eyes grew softer as she walked over and sat next to Jess. She wrapped her arms around her friends waist and laid her head down on Jess's back.

"Gage come here and hold Jess with us... she doesn't need us to be mad she needs our love."

Gage kept his feet firmly on the ground, his gaze locking with Tate's for a long moment. The room held its breath, waiting for another outburst to expel among the flock. Tate quickly gathered his energy, dampening the room's tension with his strange ability to change the atmosphere. A calmness settled over Gage, his golden eyes softening as Tate's returned to their crystal-like shine. He walked over to Jess, and lay his head on her knees, lightly wrapping his arms around her calves and sighing deeply. "Thanks Tate." He murmured, the warm sensation almost infectious.

Tate rested his chin along Jess's head, his sullen gaze shooting out the window into the garden. He took a deep breath. "It'll be okay." He whispered gently to not just their leader, but the rest of the flock.

Claire smiled when she felt Jess stop shaking and sobbing after a time. She light rubbed Jess's back before getting up.

"I don't want to stress you out anymore Jess but we do need to know everything you do so let me go get something to help you relax."

Claire went get a glass of water and crushed up four sleeping pills. She let them dissolved into the water before coming back and giving them to Jess.

"Drink up." she smiled and helped Jess drink the glass of water.

Jess felt drained, she wasn't in any shape to talk or get stressed, but the nice relaxing numbness that took over he body slowly felt nice. She smiled as her body relaxed and leaned into Tate.

"Lay her down brother." Claire said softly.

He let Jess rest against him for a few moments longer, her scent familiar. He glanced up at Claire as she spoke, his mind going blank. If Jess couldn't keep it together, how would anyone else. He nodded gently, scooping the smaller girl up in his arms and cradling her to his chest. He slipped off the side of the bed as Gage pulled back Max's covers. Tate glanced down at Jess as he placed her along the bed, her head caressed by the soft foam pillows. He covered her with a light sheet, swiping hair from her warm face. He looked back at the younger fledglings, the sound of the light clicking off as he flipped the switch releasing him from his grip on the room. He let his stance loosen, the air about them returning to it's regular lull, normality in the air. He closed the door behind them, leaving a small crack so he could hear her in the next room.

"We should get this place cleaned up for Jess when she wakes up. She's dealing with more then we know." he said looking out at the clutter of garbage and games strewn about the living room.

"Wait one second brother I just want to ask her one question before she sleeps." Claire said opening the door.

"Then I promise I'll put her to sleep." she didn't wait for his answer. She gently crawled in the bed and lay next to Jess who was still barley awake.

"Jess." Claire said.

"What else do you know... it;s okay to tell me now." Jess blinked a few times.

"Their.... their are more of us... other flock members had kids..." Jess started.

Claire held back her shock, she figured they did, but she hadn't known for sure.

"Okay okay that's enough time for sleep." Claire smiled and gently started to stroked Jess's face till the blond passed out. Claire got up and walked out the room.

"Woah."

Tate narrowed his eyes as his sister wandered off back into the room, not even stopping to listen to his orders. He left her to her own, gathering dirty dishes and piling them in the sink. Gage began stuffing garbage into a large black bag, picking up loose change and placing it in his pocket as he went. The red-haired boy simmered in his own thoughts, staring blankly out the kitchen window as he filled one of the sinks with scorching water, steam billowing into his face. He didn't look back as his sister returned from Max's room, or even to answer her dumbfounded awe.

Gage, however, was in a state of jittery ants. He needed to know.

"What? Whoa what?" The blond-haired fledgling circled around Claire, biting his nails.

"We aren't alone... We have a bigger flock." Claire said softly. She took a seat at the table.

"Okay... We need to get through to Jess that this isn't okay to keep hidden. We saw what it did to her." She looked to Tate.

"Brother that means you might have to lead us for Jess because I'm worried she can't handle it.. mentally "

There was a sudden crash, fragments of plate scattered along the floor. There were several pieces that had sliced into his foot, the shock of the sudden words that fell from his sister's lips causing him to barely notice the small beads of blood that had formed along the top of his bear feet.

Gage was the one to speak first. "Holy shit."

Tate glanced from the other two, back down to the fresh wounds that had bit into his toes. He didn't speak, didn't breath, and could barely think.

"I repeat: Holy shit"

"Brother!" Claire rushed over and put a paper towel on his foot.

"You have to be careful big brother!" Claire started to pick up the parts of the plate.

"We can afford to be hurt, not right now!" She sometimes thought to herself that she was more of a old women then child. She frowned as se got out a broom and dust pan

Gage raced to his aid as well, picking out the bits embedded in his foot as Tate took a seat at the kitchen table. He stared into space, his mind in a thousand different pieces. It seemed his thoughts had shattered, like the dishware he'd dropped. "Sorry." He muttered, as Gage wrapped both his feet in gauze. "It was shock I suppose." He finally breathed after a long moment of tense silence. He took a deep breath, resting his elbows on the table and running fingers through his messy red hair. He bounced his left knee up and down for a few long moments, his thumbnail held between his teeth.

"Tate?" Gage asked, standing a few paces away, staring at his rather blank far-away expression.

"Tate."

"We can't stay here." He said finally, his ears perking for a few seconds, and then settling as he noted no unusual sounds along the perimeter of the house. They lived in a small two-bedroom estate, just on the outskirts of town. It was hidden in a deep wood, with a full-working fireplace. Jess had insisted not using the chimney, as the smoke could tip off whoever was searching for them. On cold days they'd leave the oven on.

"We have to leave as soon as possible. They're probably already on our trail."

"What makes you say that Brother?" Claire said eyeing him.

"Who knows how long Jess has had that letter or how long they have been after us." She walked over and looked at him.

"Jess is in no condition to go anywhere unless you plan on carrying her."

Tate glanced over at his sister, a cold stare turning his light hues into two dark pools. The way he was looking at Claire made a shiver roll down the younger male's spine. "We're sitting ducks in here." His voice was low, as if Jess could hear them in the other room. He stared down at the bandages on his feet, his heart hammering in his ears. "Do you remember what Dad told us? How quick Ari had been so find their flock?" He stared deep into the grains of the floorboards, his heated emotions settling as he took a few breaths. If he got worked up, the whole room would be affected, his emotions being almost like a parasite. "Whoever captured our parents is smart." He stared at both of them, eyes flickering from goldenrod to blue orbs. "Meaning it won't be long before they find--" He paused, head whipping to the back of the house. He could hear the rustling of the bushes outside, but the cackle of a squirrel as it shimmied up a tree released him. "-- before they find us."

"Tate, can you fly while carrying Jess?" Gage asked, his eyes wide.

"I have to try."
