Has anyone read the new book on martial arts?  I was wondering if it had much new or if it was rehashing a lot of the old supernatural martial art styles.  Also, who easy would it be to convert those supernatural martial art styles to 1E.
 
A whole lot of converted old styles. Some new ones but nothing you could not live without to be honest. If you are sticking to first edition I'd advice you to just take on the myriad of fanmade styles, less work than converting and also nicer on your wallet.
 
"A whole lot of converted" means "every published style that hadn't yet been converted", which is 12 of them, plus stray charms for the two published "Hero" styles. What remains is 15 new styles, so "some" means "55% of the book is brand new styles".


Plus the eight new styles from Imperfect Lotus.


As for conversion, some would be easy. Others not. Most of the sidereal styles and a few of the others would require you to port a mechanism similar to mental defense to 1E.
 
It sounds disappointing.  I'm mostly interested in Terrestrial styles, as I mostly run mortal, God-Blooded, Dragon King and Dragone-Blooded games.  The current Celestial Styles are sufficient for my purposes, I just need more Terrestrial Styles.  Is there anyone in the Charlotte, NC area that would be willing to let me look at it, so I can see if it is worth buying?  No local store carries it, and you have to buy it if you order it.
 
I picked up my copy at GenCon, and I fully endorse you to get it.  NOt only does it have a multitude of styles, it gives information on martial arts training and societies, and plenty of other background stuff.  Like the tournament held in Thorns by Mask of Winters - the winner gets 'eternal life'.  So far, no one has stepped forward to sign up.
 
It is an excellent buy and well worth your money.  The Terrestrial styles are all cool and different, and suitable for pretty much any DB concept.

I just ordered it off Amazon the other day for my troupe, and while I haven't read any of it yet, that tournament held by Mask of Winters sounds like it could make one hell of a sweet chronicle.
 
The Heaven-and-Earth Invitational is pretty sweet. Held every 25 years in Yu-Shan, the Unconquered Sun himself invites 100 of the greatest martial artists in Creation (whether mortal, Exalted or divine).  The prize is said to be a handshake from the Unconquered Sun, one move in the Games of Divinity, and one day's training with the Maiden of Battles.  


Believe it or not but a few mortals have actually won.

No, I mean any human, including Exalted. I heard that even dreams of taking a move in the Games are horribly addicting even to Sidereals.

Addiction is different from suvival Jukashi. So they become crack fiends, whoopie. They go pull tricks for dreamstones. Oh how the mighty fall.
 
I was under the impression that if a mere dream were so addictive, actually making a move would cause you to rupture something.

I'd add in a bonus prize of not aging until the next tournament, ala Mortal Kombat.  Would make the mortals try harder.

As for extra MA Styles, I was wondering if anyone had added bending in?


Airbending is based on the Ba Gua style of martial arts.


Earthbending is based on the Hung Gar style of Kung Fu.


Firebending is based on the Northern Shaolin style of Kung Fu.


Waterbending is based on theKu Style of Tai Chi (a lesser known style combining Tai Chi with elements from the Northern Shaolin Style of Kung Fu.


They could be translated as Terrestrial Martial Arts Styles.  Though you'd probably want to add in Woodbending, but that style would have to be built from scratch.
 
I think someone was trying over at the WW.boards. Didn't pay that much attention tho'...

You could say that.  Only rarely are mortals invited to compete and a few unusual conditions apply to the tournament.  However, the book doesn't specify what these conditions could be.

"No Charms" doesn't make sense if you have gods competing, because a lot of gods don't consciously use some of their Charms: they're just a part of their nature, automatic as it were.

Well, then "mortals winning" doesn't make sense either.
