Realistic or Modern Mansion of Mirrors [OOC] [Still open - Starting 11/17]

Caution is advised: story contains promise for mature-themed interactions, slight possibilities of grit and gore, and the promise of tricks and mysteries that are sure to develop your favorite created characters. And blood... there will be blood. The last bit is my hope, at least.

In an old, long-forgotten boonies county, backwater town, off the exit of some old truck route, there's a 24-hour diner. So old that it's practically fallen off every map known to modern man. Filled with gruffy old truck drivers, old gals serving from the 60s and a random litter of lost or tired travelers from time to time. It's such a sad spot that the only locals you ever find there are the employees. No one that actually lives in the town is ever there. Bless whoever still decides to remain in such a boring, unwanted place.

There is a looming stigma of the entire town, mostly from ghost stories passed down the grapevine, nothing that caused concern or warranted investigation though. But no one ever stays long enough to care, and no one that's lived there for ages notices it.

Be the reason you stop here is for shelter for the night from long, weary travels, a bite to eat, wanderlust for old towns, ghost hunting or love for traditional creepy things, antique shopping or simply being lost on the back roads of this old truck route... you'll notice there's a magazine stand by the front of the diner with a dark, intriguing, scripted paper advertisement that reads:

[div style="width:400px;background-color:black;color:white;text-align:justify;font-size:11px; line-height:95%;margin: 0 auto;"][div style="background-image:url(http://i.imgur.com/OJoGxaa.png); height:92px;background-position: center;"][/div][div style="font-family:Times New Roman;text-transform:Uppercase;font-size:18px;text-align:center;color:white;margin-bottom:-13px; line-height:100%;"]

Mansion of Mirrors
Escape Room
Extraordinaire

[div style="background-image:url(http://i.imgur.com/fhYyN5m.png); height:53px;background-position: center;"][/div][div style="padding:20px;text-align:justify;font-family:trebuchet ms;font-size:14px;"]

Come one, come all -- come big, come small. Wonder, mystery and magic that is sure to bewilder those of any and all ages. If you're under the age of 10, however, you must 100% accompanied by an adult or guardian! Bring this flyer for free admission and come closer, my friends, and enter if you dare... this splendiferous escape room: The Mansion of Mirrors. This escape room is not like any you've experienced before, so be advised, it is not for the feint of heart.

You can find grief, mischief, amazement and prizes beyond your wildest dreams. If but you make it out.

Alive.

No soliciting.[/div][/div][/div]

You're no stranger to escape rooms and what they are, and the last bit of the pamphlet intrigues you, or maybe it just makes you laugh. If you make it out alive? Okay, color yourself interested, that sounds a bit on the spookier side. And then a corny notice for "no soliciting"? What a joke. Like everything in this smalltime town. Oh well, you've got time to kill and the flyer grants you free admission. If anything, it's a good way to kill a few hours. For free.

When you arrive, you notice you're not the only sucker that was bored out of their mind and wanted a free escape room experience. You're unsure now if this escape room will present a challenge with how many people have gathered. Will you stay?

A woman in a maid's uniform with a British accent begins speaking; explaining the rules of the escape room, explaining how many rooms there are, and how much time that you have to escape. She introduces herself as the host, who will provide clues... at a cost. She also mentions she is a servant of the master of the mansion, and advises (rather eerily) that now is the time to determine if you want to leave.

If you wish to proceed, game on.

Can you escape?

This will be our space to chat, have discussions, make suggestions, goof around (but you know, courteously goof around) and let the gang know when someone is gonna take an absence or *sob* if they don't wanna play anymore. This will also be a space for discussing what changes, twists and turns you'd like to see in the rooms.

I plan to have the IC up and running by Saturday, Nov. 10th, to give time for any last minute character submissions.

For the time being, I have in mind a total of five rooms, and an escape time of 7 hours -- I can tell you the theme of the rooms now, if you'd like, or drop some mad hints in my posts themselves. The theme we will be operating off of is able to accomodate more players if we do get extra peeps. The rooms (only the first two, to be honest) will start off gentle, slightly creepy and innocent enough at first. *Cackles*

Post-length-wise, let's try to stick with a two paragraph, eight sentence, minimum. Story progression-wise, and I might get some push back for this... so please speak up if this seems unrealistic. I'd like to challenge everyone's writing and meet a post count, so part of the IRL puzzle will be making sure you can hit your numbers, but the rooms I'm making, and the randomizer that I've got going on in my brain with the rooms getting more and more complicated... I think we can make it. Ideally, I'd like to see everyone make it to the final room but life happens, ya know? So if player count goes down, so will the post count. Even though I haven't written with you all, I have faith, so don't let me down. <3

(These may vary with player count, and post count will still count when I post as the host as well.)

Room 1 - 20 posts / 4 posts a player to proceed
Room 2 - 30 posts / 6 posts a player to proceed
Room 3 - 40 posts / 8 posts a player to proceed
Room 4 - 50 posts / 10 posts a player to proceed
Room 5 - 60 posts / 12 posts a player to proceed... and then the game will END!

The last time I ran something like this on RPGFO... (my old stomping grounds, I did a SAW version similar to this, this was the only RP I ever saw reach an end. Gratifying AF.) Again, it might not be everyone's cup of tea, so speak up if you're not digging this. Anyways, I type too much. Thoughts? Comments? Concerns? Insults?

How realistic should the photos be? As in actual pictures of human faces or digital art realistic? Also, how old should our characters be?

Anywhere from 8-60 should be good. I'll be making the host 24. The 'master of the mansion' will be 59 :D
Digital art can get preeeeeeeetty realistic... but I'm gonna go with human faces, if you don't mind!

Oh, if that's the case then I'll have a hard time finding real faces to use.

Hmmm, just to make it easier, I edited the CS. You can use any picture you like. I don't really wanna get nit-picky for photos when I'm being picky in just about everything else haha. I'm tired as heck though, and have to be at work in like 5 hours, so I'm gonna snooze. Happy character creating <3

What type of skills do we put in the skills list?

Anything you like -- carpentry skills, electrician skills . Think survival-type skills. Anything you might think is useful or hobbies that your character learned. I'm at work now, so sorry about the delay of response : )

Hi friends! I put up the hostess' CS. I don't want anyone to feel rushed or pressured to have to submit everything and be prepared to launch everything Saturday -- I'm gonna extend things to next Saturday, to give some extra cushion time to start and plot things out <3

Good to know, but I do have this one question: What do we type for the "Code:" part of that character sheet? I've never seen that before...

I'm still a coding newb :P I probably used an old BB code. You can copy and paste everything but the word code. I had fleshed out the CS description part and didn't want you guys to go through the hassle of deleting all the extra wording.

In short, that 'code' bit was a mistake and can be ignored :) sorry haha. Copy everything down from name, pretty much. <3

Ok! Thanks for the clarification! I'm already working on my character's design so I can't wait for Saturday!

I'm very excited for this -- glad I gave a little extension! I've drafting up the rooms (doing them as images so that you all can see the rooms we are working with!!). I'll of course be posting the skeletons of the rooms in here, but describing the rooms a lot more vividly, as to not ruin the surprise of the rooms!

Admittedly, I've never actually been this dedicated and detailed with a story. So hype! How's everyone's weeks going? Anyone got plans for the weekend? It's about to be a long weekend with Veteran's Day! (Speaking of: an early thank you to any who have served!)

AHhhhh I'm finally finished with my character sheet! I hope everything looks alright!

I would've had it finished much sooner, but I haven't been feeling too good lately which has been making me work a lot slower.

Amazing characters so far and I'm really glad to be here!

Can't wait for this to kick off and see where this all goes!

And Happy Veteran's Day to anyone who has served!

Born and raised in a military family so it's a big day for me.

You can probably tell with the whole theme of my character.

I dig the character! And hope you feel better, dear! <3

Some nice skills we have going on here in our little pot - lockpicking, medical, flexibility. I'd hope to be in an escape room like this with your characters for sure.

Also. Being sick stinks.

Is it sort of paranormal activity horror where there are spirits or its more like Saw?

This RP? More like Saw.

Your character is great though : ) I'm not opposed to spiritually aware/inclined characters.

Clutch! Dig the character, Jaccy!

Looks like we got a hodgepodge of misfits -- I'm quite excited! I'm gonna be spending a good chunk of time preparing puzzles, and thinking of ways the Diedre can torture your characters. I mean... guide them, to the exit, safely. You know...

*Whistles.*

*Cackles* I mean, technically she will be assisting you guys. But it's definitely gonna be one hell of a ride.

While I have you guys around, I do wanna check on posting speeds so that we all get familiar with how often we are all available and hopes/expectations for post count to proceed to the next rooms. Everyone is cool with meeting that count to go through, right? (IE: Room #1 requires at least 20 posts to go to room #2. I have faith that you guys will be able to decode the clues/room but the rooms will definitely get harder and more intricate so posts and post counts will be easy pickings...) No one said anything, but I don't like to assume haha.

Also, I'd planned for the launch next Saturday, but I am almost finished here with Room #1... did anyone wanna start a bit early? And, if so, what day works best for everyone?

My normal schedule: I work Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. All 10AM-9PM EST shift. My days off are: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays (these are days where I'll normally post).
(This week is a bank holiday though, so I'm off from today all the way through to Thursday :3 !)
