My Interest Check
After, happily ever after what happens? Before once upon a time who were they? All fairytale characters need to be somewhere; they’re people after all. Well, all of these fantastical characters were here in Satoria. Where all fairytale characters and mythology characters collect and live. Unlike some people believe, these people aren’t trapped in the stories they were born into. It’s 20XX after all; they should be allowed to wander around freely. They have lives aside from their stories, jobs, relationships, families, and all that it entails. Life for these people goes about just as you might imagine in your world. Although there are a few main differences from what you've been told. The stories are not exactly the same; each one is at least slightly different. People have a tendency to twist things up.

So I mean this to be a sort of slice of life RP, but for fairytale characters. I don't think I made it quite clear, but I'd like your characters to be the children/descendants of the original fairytale characters. I think this would allow you to branch off from the original character concept however you'd like. The characters I have reserved for myself are in the next act; as well as what I expect from your characters. It is your choice whether or not to keep the original characters alive depending on how old your character is.

Another very important thing about this RP, is that I want the stories to be twisted from the originals. They can be twisted as little or as much as you'd like. As long as they somewhat follow the original tale. These fairytale stories can be taken from any version of the fairytale that you'd like. (Yes this includes Disney versions, although I would prefer the Grimm tales of some) I do keep saying fairytales but I'd also like this to include other kinds of stories like Myths, folklore, and any other stories you'd like. (I'd like to include stories from all over the world, so don't be afraid to suggest any tales) Any stories are okay, but please ask first so I can approve them. Also include which characters descendants you'd like to play, and how you'd like to twist the story. There's many details to this RP, but I'd also like these characters to be aware of retellings of their stories. So please be prepared to do a little research on the tales you choose. If there aren't any retellings; that's okay. You can make up your own if you'd like.

The world
Satoria
  • Population - The world of Satoria is made up of one major continent and 7 major islands. The place where most characters reside is in the major territory of Satoria. Other characters that have branched off and rejected their fairytale roots live in Freybury. Besides that Neverland and Wonderland are the most populated areas. The territory of the League of Villains is where most of the population of villains reside; although many take a train ride over for meetings and live elsewhere.
  • Geography - Satoria is a hilly region that has many rivers which run through the land. Although the region is extremely hilly there are no major mountains. The weather spans from cloudy, rainy, windy days to clear sunny skies. Winters are extremely cold and there is almost always about a foot of snow on the ground(-6 to 6 degrees C), Fall is cool and windy(16 to 5 degrees C), the summers warm and occasionally cloudy(28 to 18 degrees C). Natural flora includes birch, spruce, maple, and pine trees, as well as Holly bushes, alliums, bleeding heart flowers, Italian bugloss, and daffodils.

The Coastal Cliffs
  • Population - The population of the Coastal Cliffs is made of Villains. Not all the villains in Satoria are in the Coastal Cliffs, but it is the majority.
  • Geography - The Coastal cliffs is a mountainous region where The League of Villains lives. There are several lakes in the surrounding areas. Hills and plateaus are common. The LOV headquarters resides on the major cliff. The coastal cliffs are wet and humid. Other than that the weather is much the same as that in Satoria. Except for the constant presence of fog in the area. The flora is the same as in Satoria; except for the fact that the plants are affected with melanism. (Melanism is an increase in pigmentation; which causes them to be darker)

Freybury
  • Population - Freybury is made up of all the characters that revoked their fairytales. They left their homelands and came here. It is made up of all types of characters.
  • Geography - Freybury is a plains region. Although there are large caverns that run all along Freybury. There is a ravine that runs along the west edge separating it from Satoria. The weather in Freybury is warm; usually sunny clear skies. It is generally warmer than the rest of Satoria. Summers are hot with clear skies (27 to 40 degrees C). Winters are more cold than cool (2 to 17 degrees C). The flora in Freybury includes rosemary, lavender, marjoram, thyme, sage, lemon balm, chives, yarrow, it also includes fourwing saltbush, honey mesquite, and Artemisia filifolia.

Wonderland
  • Population - There are the Red and White characters within Wonderland; they make up 45/45 percent of the population. The other 10 percent are characters that have migrated from other parts of Satoria. There are no distinct heroes or villains within Wonderland, other than those who have migrated.
  • Geography - Wonderland is a wooded region; a prominent feature of the land is the large mushrooms that grow naturally. There are a few big lakes within the island, and two waterfalls (One more of a waterup). Other distinct parts of Wonderland include: The Black Forest, Boro Grove, the Boiling Sea, Jafar’s lair, Mallow marsh, Mimsy meadows, the Outlands, the Tulgey woods, Underland, Whispering woods, Wonderland castle, the Queen of hearts castle, and the White queen castle. The weather in Wonderland is unpredictable; it can be raining one moment and sunny the next. Best to always keep a jacket on you. Flora in Wonderland includes all other flora within Satoria as well as balloon flowers, red roses, hyperion trees, and chestnut oaks.

Neverland
  • Population - Faeries, Birds, Lost boys, Pirates, “Redskins”, Mermaids, gnomes, and other characters that migrated from other parts of Satoria. The only formal villains in Neverland are the Pirates; all other characters are uncategorized.
  • Geography - Neverland is a wooded swamp. There are only a few distinct locations in Neverland; the places in between are blurry. When you go outside of these locations to travel to another you almost lose consciousness and do not remember how you got there. The places within Neverland are Home Under the Ground, the Little House, the Jolly Roger, Mermaid's lagoon, Cannibal cove, Pixie hollow, Skull Rock, Crocodile creek, and Marooners Rock. The weather within Neverland is really dependent on where you are on the island. It can range from extreme colds to warm weather climates. Flora includes vida, bloodsucker trees, Jewel flowers, Anemone plants, and candle trees.

Tree of Light
  • Population - None
  • Geography - A lone island out in the sea between Freybury and Satoria. There is not much on the island besides pincushion moss, which covers the entire ground, and lily of the valley flowers. The only other thing on this island is the Tree of Light. A tall tree, always in bloom; balls of light take the place of flowers on the tree. There is a ball of light for each character, representing their life force and their magic. When a character fades so does their light on the tree. No one knows why, but if you go there you just know which light is yours. The weather on the island is temperamental; there is a light mist almost always around the island. A cool temperature (15 to 23 degrees C). The sky on the island is almost always slightly cloudy, keeping the sun at bay.

Background
For as long as humans have been alive they’ve been telling stories. It started with stories of great hunts and of monsters in the night. Slowly as society and culture evolved, so did their stories; they became more complex with characters and plot. As these stories were told, a good teller would feel as if the story came to life, and in every sense of the way they did. But the characters could never stay within the mortal realm; instead they were transported to another place. A place where they would live out their story again and again. So long as their story was alive, so they would be. But if a tale was forgotten they would start to fade, and eventually a story forgotten ceased to exist within this world. It wasn’t until many thousands of years that this world started to take more of a shape. The characters had been alive so long that they would become self-aware. They craved to be free from the constraints of their tales, so they found a way to break free. And when intelligent beings form in one area, society is not far behind. That is how the world of Satoria came to be. Stories become real.

A tall tree, always in bloom; balls of light take the place of flowers on the tree. There is a ball of light for each character, representing their life force and their magic. When a character is born a star falls from the sky and falls upon the tree. When a character fades so does their light on the tree. It’s as if the star that gave its light is burned away. No one knows why, but if you go there you just know which light is yours. They say that people have tried to take these lights, but none have succeeded.

Government/Society
At first when they broke free, the characters were still trapped in the area where they formed. After a while though they were able to travel anywhere they liked. Satoria started as all major civilizations do; with small settlements that evolved into towns that evolved into cities. A majority of the tales formed within the major continent of Satoria. There are a few though that were so prominent they became their own islands; such places as Wonderland and Neverland. After forming Wonderland and Neverland stayed mostly the same; with only some few differences. The society within the Lands (Wonderland and Neverland) was already formed. Whereas in Satoria there was no real one set society or government. This formed slowly over the years. The ways of governing changed quite a few times until it landed on a representative constitutional democracy. The three major categories being Villains, Heroes, and Auxiliary. Most of the residents were happy with this but there are a few who left in favour of other ways. One prominent rebellion were the characters who labelled themselves the Veracities; they were dead set on being completely free from the restraints of their tales. They tried to take down the major government in Satoria but failed, so instead they left. They settled in the East part of Satoria and named their territory Freybury. There in Freybury they function as a Direct democracy, and welcome any and all however they’d like to be.
Satoria
  • Representative constitutional democracy, A committee made up of elected individuals. One to represent each major group in Satoria Villains, Heroes, and Auxiliaries.
  • The laws of Satoria are similar to those in most lands on Earth. No killing, no stealing, no piracy, etc. There are also laws specific to powered individuals such as One must do things of their own will and intent, and damage done to public property will be compensated by public service, etc.
  • The societal standards in Satoria are much different though. Although there has been a push for equality towards Villains you can often find discrimination towards them. This problem is not as big as it used to be, but it definitely still has a presence within Satoria. On the other hand Heroes are glorified and expected to always be nice and strong. Auxiliaries probably have it the best as nothing is really expected from them; they also make up a majority of the population.
Coastal Cliffs
  • The Coastal Cliffs are included within the government of Satoria. They are technically just a separate colony.
  • The laws of Satoria apply here; although they are not enforced as strictly as in Satoria.
  • The Coastal Cliffs is where LOV (the League of Villains) resides. There are hardly any other characters there. In the Coastal Cliffs they strive for true freedom for Villains, and escape from the societal standards to be scary and mean. Although this does not mean that all the Villains here truly wish for it to be that way; they really just like the freedom away from the rest of the characters. It depends a lot on the Villain you talk to.
Freybury
  • Direct democracy, the vera (Vera is what they decided to call themselves instead of characters) of Freybury wanted true freedom. So whenever there is a decision to be made they hold a committee and vote on what to do.
  • The laws of Frebury are similar to that of Satoria; due to the fact that they have not been separated that long. The vera are still deciding what laws to set in place.
  • The vera in Freybury are trying their hardest to be the opposite of Satoria. So nothing is really expected of anyone except for being their true authentic selves. Lots of vera in Freybury are angry at their predecessors for just accepting their origin tales. In that mindset, Freybury is big on creating. They are lovers of art and music and storytelling; they say it is so they can express themselves as they are. If they don’t like who they were told into the story then they rewrite their own tale to be how they want. Freybury has a saying, “If the story is untrue, then correct it’s wrongs.”
Traditions
Origin day - When characters turn 16 they go with the other characters in their story and live out their original tale. Just once they must live out the story in order to keep themselves alive. That’s where they find out “the truth of who they are”.
Reawakening - A festival where people celebrate the freedom of their lives and the choices they were able to make due to the efforts of the original characters
Blossom fest - A city wide festival where they celebrate the end of the war of Good and Evil
Candles awe - A day to celebrate the magic in the world of Satoria and the source of it all; the tree of light. People make little boats and put candles in them; they light the candles and push them out into the ocean. These candles represent the character lights that bloom on the tree of light.

The world of Satoria is now in its height of technology. They have a stress on things being environmentally friendly; everything they build they ask “How will this affect us and the land?” This was always pushed when making new scientific discoveries. They started out small with things like manual tools and slowly pushed to other means of energy. They found that they can harvest the salt that washes up on the north shore; the water comes from the Tree of Light. They take the salt, put it inside of a container, and use it like a battery in items.
All use this technology except the people of Freybury; who refuse to use the salt from the Tree of Light. They say to use salt is to accept the magic it brings into their world. They use steam-powered items instead.

There are no cars in Satoria. Most people use public transport, horses, or motorcycles. Travel outside of the city, still within the same continent, will be by train. There are several train stations around the continent of Satoria; most colonies have at least one. Within the major capital of Satoria there are three, one on each side of the city and one within the capital. The rest of the cities/colonies have one or two train stations. The territory of Freybury has one train station on the West side of the Couperdeux Abyss, the ravine that divides Freybury and Satoria. Within Freybury they travel on steam-powered motorcycles or Chocobo; as they are against using the salt that comes from the Tree of Light.
