In summertime on Bredon, the bells they sound so clear; round both the shires they ring them in steeples far and near, a happy noise to hear. Here of a Sunday morning my love and I would lie, and see the coloured counties, and hear the larks so high about us in the sky. The bells would ring to call her in valleys miles away; "Come all to church, good people; good people come and pray." But here my love would stay. And I would turn and answer among the springing thyme, "Oh, peal upon our wedding, and we will hear the chime, and come to church in time." A tree on Bredon Hill, a lonely tree stands on Bredon Hill, but when the snows at Christmas on Bredon top were strown, my love rose up so early and stole out unbeknown and went to church alone.

A woman of above average stature with an angular build softened by the ruffles & frills of her uniform. Adelaide often walks with a bowed head, hiding away grey eyes whose lower scleral show; as a result of her height, she often slumps. It doesn't help that her pastime before the war was spent hunched over a drafting board & now over flat tables whenever mending clothing. Stress has taken a toll on her & presents itself within her physique; her hair, her brows, her nails... all thin & frail. Her skin especially so, particularly pallid. At nights, her maid's cap comes off with a considerable amount of stray, blonde hairs. Despite this, she is sensible about maintaining her appearance. Trust her to dedicate perhaps an hour of out her week to head into the town's salon for a trim of her strategically cut bob: mindfully layered to give the allusion of fullness.

From afar, the best word to describe Adelaide is regular. Carries herself well enough, minimizes her presence, is often even a bit stiff. Within areas off limits to children, where only peers can hear her, her poor nature gets the better of her. It's not uncommon that she explodes at a display of incompetence, as she loses her patience quite quickly. She's a rather straightforward person with little tolerance for nonsense. In truth, frustration boils up inside her quite easily & it's only in these brief moments that she allows herself some release; managing her anger isn't within her interest.

Towards the children, however, she's gentle & calm. Quick to offer a mending to their clothing & busy herself with that. In this way, she's quite kind with them. She'll tolerate any curious lines of thinking they might have with extraordinary patience & sometimes even interest. When it comes to a child, it's as though the whimsy of her younger self possesses her to entertain & soothe children. She'll gladly offer a doodle of whatever they'd like, perhaps even a trick shot into the bin.

Despite this, her voice still comes evenly, with her characteristic dull cadence, even in moments like those; the only time it doesn't is when she's lost her patience. As a whole, she can come across as gloomy because of this voice.

In her time at Lockheed, she's experienced more bad things than good come from the oddities of children & her peers. To her knowledge, she's managed to fend off this infliction. She feels as though oddities are something of an illness, something to be cured, so she has little tolerance for them. At first, she felt wonderfully curious towards them, but now... she knows better.

Daughter of a single mother, it went without saying that her autumn birth was something of a miracle in a tenement that struggled to keep warm.

Her rearing was regular. School was a bit lonesome, as she was rather testy with her peers even back then; schoolwork came easily to her, so it frustrated her when it did not for others. Come 16, she'd graduated without issue & without much to do afterwards. Her mother coddled her & expected nothing of her, leaving her to do as she pleased. She'd find herself spending her days within their city, idling & humoring herself to whatever whim crossed her. Often, those whims led her to libraries & booksellers that tolerated her loitering; admittedly, she didn't do much reading, rather looking at the illustrations & cartoons that accompanied children's books or weekly editions. After enough visits, she earned herself a seat behind the help counter: an opportunity to doodle for passersby who checked out. In reality, a means to free up the desk for those who came to study.

It wasn't long before her ability was noticed, particularly by the little girl whose father apparently edited at a bookselling & publishing house. It took a couple months of them passing by, but eventually their interactions became this: the two would come in after the father's work, the little girl would stretch her chin up to the counter & ask for whatever held her fancy that day. By the time she came back to the counter to check out, Adelaide would have a few little drawings ready for her; often a goodhearted attempt at whatever was asked of her & then two complementary (see: apologetic) doodles of flowers that came out much better.

Come the day when her father extended an invitation to visit his work, Adelaide was first tasked with creating complementary illustrations for women's pieces. Dresses, character portraits, sometimes baked goods... She passed her time comfortably & even was offered a formal position within the company by the time she was 18. Albeit for laughable pay, but she was young & nothing made her happier than keeping a collection of works she'd drawn for, if only a flower on a single page. It amazed her to see the differences in how she recalled drawing a piece & how the engravers ended up carving her lines out.

When war broke out two years later, her assignments became assisting full-page illustrators at work with their shading; they'd draw the lines & she'd hatch out the form. It was only a year later that she'd apply for nurse's training. Admittedly, she felt as though she could've been doing more; for as many pages of propaganda she'd help produce, often even being tasked to help with the engravings, she felt helpless. With loose morals, she easily had documentation forged to say she would be 25 by the following month, the minimum age for nurses. By no means did she fool anyone, but she was accepted to a hospital close to home nonetheless.

In those years, her idle expression was that of pleasant mirth. Having spent her life doodling for children & living comfortably, for those who've lived through worse since the war, the sight of her was one for sore eyes. A wide-eyed, rosy girl that carried out her training well? Within three years, she'd been recommended to a base station in the Western Front. Her mother was the first to hear the news, as she didn't have much of a social life within the hospital. She was kind enough with the other nurses but, again, when something came easily to her, it sometimes didn't for others &, again, it frustrated her, so she kept her distance. Not to mention, she was still only a girl at heart back then; the only difference between her schooling & hospital days was the uniform she wore; she still bounded home for a warm meal all the same, if only with a more controlled step as she grew older.

In spite of the scolding that came with it, Adelaide would often slip into her mother's bed after particularly grueling shifts. In doing this, it's like she's still a schoolgirl, coming home from a lackluster exam or a day of light teasing; all her worries wash away & her morning comes as it always does, leaving her refreshed & able to take on the day ahead. She'd never speak of the occasional horrors she saw, but it seemed her mother understood without it being said; mothers always did, she supposed.

Upon deployment, this could no longer be the case. For the first time, Adelaide was alone. It first settled in one particularly gruesome night, a couple weeks in. After doting on a young boy with an awful blow to his abdomen, providing company & listening of his plans after the war, all to step out into the breakroom in tears later that afternoon, when his hand relaxed for a final time in hers. There was an unspoken rule among the nurses to stifle oneself, so her tears came in silent, gasping breaths. It had all become too much for her, too many weeks of choked sobs. Letters were nice, but there truly was no home to return to that night. Compounded that with her useless mind cementing that boy earlier died before a stranger, far from home.

By the end of her fifth month, she'd found a routine. It was aided by a particular postman, who'd frequent the hospital during deliveries. Youth she was, the sight of him filled her with butterflies. It wasn't long before their love story played out & she wound up late. That month, she received word of her mother's passing & applied to take leave from her post almost immediately, leaving him none the wiser. Their pregnancy, her mother... At the time, it was a feat to even repeat aloud the news to her station's manager. Sometimes she wonders what became of her love.

Sometimes she wonders what might've become of her life had she never left home. Looking back, she's not proud of the naivety of her younger years; she's grown quite proud of her self-sufficiency, but... she does wonder. The immediate week back, the guilt overcame her. By the end of the week, she'd become "sick" again. This time, of course, her body had taken an awful toll. Chills, expulsions, but she soon enough make a well-enough recovery. Now without mother or child to come, she felt truly alone & the reality sent her mind into a dark haze.

In her time back, she'd attempted to return to work at the publishing house. It seemed that her change in demeanor was too great &, as a result of recent news, was a bit too unsettled. She was let off. The next couple of years were spent idling, taking up odd jobs wherever her whim guided her. Particularly, she developed an interest in letter writing for patients at the hospital she had once volunteered at. As always, she'd offer little doodles of whatever they requested.

In 1922, Lockheed finds her.

colette - One of the girl's mother figures. Adelaide oversaw her recovery upon being sent to Lockheed last year. Her background as a nurse, combined with her extraordinary patience, allowed her to help the girl adjust to life at Lockheed. Colette, along with Abigail, often stop by Adelaide's usual place at one of the studies; they'd come sit with her to sew, draw, & other things of the like. It's said that wherever Adelaide is, the other two are often close behind.
doris - Adelaide... tolerates Doris. Their views on oddities are polar opposites & Doris' range of sounds often upset Adelaide, but it's manageable. When Adelaide

The ability to never miss. Blindfolded, handicapped, she can perfectly place whatever her will desires. Truthfully, Adelaide doesn't realize she's developed this skill since coming to Lockheed. In her daily life, it often goes unnoticed. Her ability to sew in absolutely straight lines, to place her pencil with otherworldly precision... the result of years of practice, surely. Of course, it's not often that she's throwing things, is it?

Back as an illustrator, her drawings were... cute. Certainly an attempt at realism, but often landed into simple doodles. Nowadays, though she's able to render things near perfectly from real life... her creativity's gone; there's no more whimsy to her art. It's a cold still of reality.

Sometimes, she dreams an alternate reality where she comes home to find her mother ill. Despite her best efforts, her beloved mother still passes but, at least this time, its in Adelaide's arms within the week of coming home. These dreams comes to her vividly; she's able to kiss her mother's forehead & thank her. She thanks her for waiting.
The mornings after that dream often go slowly. The dream's reoccurred so often that, even to this day, sometimes she'll wake up mistaking it for a memory; those days are the easiest to manage.

Name: Quintin "Quinn" Richardson

Appearance: Quinn is oftenly described as a tall, lanky young man, standing at 5'7, quite tall for his age, the top of his scalp decorated with a rather deep auburn colouration, put up in a tie to keep his rather long hair out of his eyes, the sides and back shaven down to a stubble, while his eyes stood as a unique physical attribute, said to be a fair silver colour, his facial structure complimented by a blemish of freckles across his face, stretching from the left side to the right side of his cheeks, described as a very militant looking young man, his jawline sharp and pointed. An unusual detail to notice is the unique birthmark present on his left hand, resembling that of an unusual hand, sharp lines tracing from his fingers to the middle of the upper portion of his hands, though very few have seen it, due to him wearing an old fingerless glove on said hand, only exposing some portion of the lines present on each finger. He is usually seen in black suspender pants, tucked into a pair of his father's old military boots, a black collarless shirt and a modified black fur lined jacket his father had left him.

Personality: Quinn is consider to be rather dreary, being rather sluggish and quiet during the day, but he's still considered a rather friendly individual, usually attempting to lighten up dark situations with humour, though otherwise he's a rather antisocial individual, interacting with few of the other residents of the orphanage unless needed otherwise. Despite his friendly and calm demeanor, Quinn is still more than capable of losing his temper, known for growing eeriely quiet and wild eyed when angered.

"He who walks with Darkness" - A subclass of umbrakenesis, being able to move in and out of shadows and darkness, though with the side effects of strange markings and photosensitivity, forcing one to hide their eyes from sunlight, making him sluggish during the day, being much more active during the twilight and late night hours.

Backstory: Quinn was born January 3rd, 1910, born to three other siblings, two girls and a boy, the youngest four. Most of Quinn's early life was fairly uneventful, his father having taken a career in the military, while his mother was the secretary of a large factory tycoon owner, while his three siblings and him proceeded with their normal lives, up until Quinn was about four, when his power begun to manifest, occasionally disappearing entirely during games of hide and seek with his siblings. Upon the discovery, his mother was panicked, not entirely sure if keeping him within the home was a safe option for his siblings, but his father, who was unusually much calmer in the face of the current situation they found themselves in, instead ignored his wife's pleas, keeping the young Quinn in the house, having had some prior knowledge to what was occuring, making sure to hammer in the concept of hiding Quinn's powers to the young boy, and this he obeyed his father, having been closest to him, rather than his mother. As the years passed, his father took him under his wings, teaching him many of the same values he held, until he was ultimately shipped overseas to partake in the first world war, leaving the boy with his mother. Not even two years later, his father was reported to have fallen during a battle, leaving his family distraught and devasted, though he had received his father's tags. Not too long after that, his mother made the inevitable decision to be rid of her, "demonic spawn", and took him to the orphanage, leaving him alone in this unfamiliar place. As the years within the orphanage passed, his power began manifesting more and more, though he was quick to hide them, although a few others learned of them. Now he's a 16 year old young man, simply waiting out the years for his day to escape this place and make his way into the world.

• Aquaphobia - Due to a close call during a swimming trip, Quinn has an intense fear of water, refusing to set foot in a body of water
• Trust Issues - Due to his mother's actions, Quinn has a rather hard time fully trusting people

•Quinn is quite talented at sewing, having made many of the clothes he currently wears, adding a hood to his fur lined jacket, keeping the eyes out of his eyes.
•When his powers are in us, his left eye sprouts out black ink like liquid from his tear glands.

Name: Ethel

Age: 16 (born on October 13, 1910)

Personality: Ethel is your resident weirdo and a conspiracy theorist whose theories are often wrong. She has a very short attention span and gets bored easily, so daydreams a lot. On top of that, Ethel just points fingers at people when something strange is going on and makes snap judgments based on quick observations. Ethel is a bit insensitive because of this but ultimately means no harm. Ethel just dreams a lot, without any doing. It's hard to anger Ethel, but she doesn't like dealing with negative emotions when they do come up(which is rare) and turns on her autopilot when confronted with hurt or bad memories, or fear.

Oddity: can turn on and off her "autopilot". This means that when Ethel's autopilot is off, Ethel has normal awareness. When it's on, her mental presence isn't there, and can thus not be hypnotized/ mind controlled, but can't control what her body is doing.

Backstory: Ethel had a pretty normal early childhood, and always loved the stories her parents told her. She was really innocent of the war that would come and was really close to them. They especially loved reading outside, because Ethel liked flowers. As such, that's when Ethel got stung by a bee at the age of 3 (before her parents got drafted) and was scared to go outside for a little while. Soon after the start of WWI, Ethel's dad got drafted and her mom had to take care of Ethel. Ethel spent 2 years with her mother before her mother got drafted as a nurse. So, Ethel spent time with a woman who lived nearby Ethel's family, but the woman saw Ehtel as a burden because she was seen as kind of cuckoo and the woman already had 2 children. What did the woman do? She dumped Ethel back to her home and Ethel had to find another way for someone to take care of her. Ethel then decided to spend her days with different 'babysitters' until the end of the war, when her parents would return home.

When the war ended, Ethel waited for her parents to return, but they had both died in the war. None of her neighbors wanted to take her in due to the fact that Britain was headed for hard economic times. So, Ethel waited for 2 months for her parents to return and they never did, so she left home and traveled the countryside, wanting her bad memories to go away. She willed her brain to shut off, and it did. That caused some weird side effects, such as the fact that Ethel could never control her own movements, except for stopping so that she could will her brain back on. It was like her brain was still there, enough for her to acknowledge her feelings, but also like something else was controlling her body, and it had no brain. She eventually got bored, and turn her brain back on.

But when she had nightmares or felt like something bad was going on, which was often because she'd lost her parents recently, she shut off her brain. Ethel's oddity seemed like it had a homing beacon when it was turned on, and after 2 weeks, Ethel arrived at Lockheed and a few days after that, Ethel started the poison conspiracy theory.

Trauma Points (What are your character’s greatest fears?):
  • Losing people she cares about(will insist on going with them to dangerous situations)
  • brooms(the woman she first lived with would occasionally hit her with a broom, so would a few other neighbors)
Other:
-Most of Ethel's conspiracies are just completely wrong, but, a few were slightly right. One of the ones that were a tiny bit right was when Ethel started a theory when she first arrived, that the cooks were trying to poison them to death. This had nothing to do with the chefs, but a lot of kids did get food poisoning, including Ethel.
-If Ethel didn't have such a short attention span and actually kept her train of thought organized, she'd make a decent journalist.
-Ethel is allergic to bee stings, but not fatally.
-she's a pretty fast sprinter(but not Usain Bolt fast)

Mateo “Matty” Solinas
Age: 43

Personality: Mateo is a hardworking, kind man. He can be rather quiet at times, especially when focused on a project or task. While most of his duties have him maintaining the grounds of the orphanage itself, he’s always willing to step in and assist with the children whenever needed and it’s not entirely uncommon for children to be sent to assist him with weeding the gardens as punishment for minor offenses. He spends most of his time alone, working on one project or another, but he’s more than happy to share a drink with the other caretakers and put his feet up for an hour or two. But rarely more than an hour or two.

Oddity: Mateo never sleeps. While he might need to catch his breath after hard physical labor, he otherwise never needs any sort of rest. He can be seen working at all hours of the night and despite rarely carrying any sort of light with him, doesn’t seem to have any difficulty seeing in the dark.

Hobbies and Interests:
  • Gardening (he’s very pleased that’s part of his job description)
  • Woodcarving
  • Music (he has a violin and a wooden flute, both brought from his home in Italy)

Backstory:
Mateo was born September 3rd, 1883, in Varade, Italy. The youngest of two siblings, his brother Brio often led the way on various adventures through their small town. When he was 7 and Brio was 10, famine forced their family to leave their modest business behind and come to England in search of work. Some of earliest memories are of the endless hunter and the way he could see Brio’s bones through his skin.
England was better, though not by much. His new English friends preferred Matty to Mateo and, except at home, that’s soon what he was always called. His father made a living making tiles and small plaster sculptures and both sons followed him into the trade as soon as they were old enough. Mateo found his niche more in the mechanical aspects, keeping tools clean and well-maintained.
When their father passed away in 1901, neither of the sons had a head for the business, and things only got worse after Brio suffered a head injury. Mateo took on the role of caring for his brother and sister-in-law, taking odd jobs wherever he could and sending whatever money he made back to his family.
He’s spent the better part of the past 15 years living a transient life, traveling from job to job, but the war made that rather difficult when he was forced to register with the police and restricted in his travels. He was indeed very very lucky to be offered a lucrative position at Lockheed as a caretaker and groundskeeper and has no intention of leaving the position any time soon.

Trauma Points:
Uselessness: Mateo has spent much of his life working to provide for his family. Being unable to be helpful, bring useless, means being unable to care for his loved ones.
Starvation: Mateo’s earliest memories are of the hunger that brought his family to England. He still stockpiles food whenever he has the chance and there is a neat pile of canned food beneath his bed.
Dogs: he just is really scared of dogs. No bad experiences. Just doesn’t trust them.

Other:
  • He's fluent in Italian, though he hardly gets much chance to speak it anymore.
  • Mateo is often seen working late into the night. Inside, he works without light, but outside, he makes use of a lantern that appears to be a repurposed glass birdfeeder. During the day, it is either covered with a simple canvas shroud and attached to his belt, or it is tucked away somewhere hidden in the orphanage.

Personality:
There is something off about her. Doris is a seemingly earnest and hard-working person that wants nothing more than recognition, but fears stepping into the spotlight. As such, she makes sure not to be too individualistic, not quite outstanding, but a calm presence that doesn't wish to overstep her bounds. However, there is something off about her – like looking into a mirror for too long and becoming disconnected from your reflection. If you can overcome this uncanny uneasiness she exerts, she is rather easy to befriend. She is always looking for the validation and companionship of her peers.

Oddity:
Vocal Mimicry – Doris can perfectly recreate the voices of others and imitate sounds such as animal calls, bell chimes, or explosions. Any sound she hears or has heard in the past, she can recreate it with perfect accuracy. However, she is not immune to the effects these may have on the human body. For example, mimicking the sound of an explosion will likely cause permanent hearing loss.

Hobbies/Interests:
Baking, Cooking, Journalling, Practicing her thousand-yard stare, Smoke breaks, and making sure the needs of those around her are met.

Backstory:
Born to a traditional family at the turn of the century, Doris was the only child in the household. Her development during her younger years was fine. Her academic record at school was above average; despite her intense efforts to improve herself faster. Whether in the eyes of her teachers or her family, she was the picture of a good child. Then, the war started. Her father was taken from her during her teenage years, causing a clear mark on her behavioral development. The once-so-spirited Doris lost her spark and became little more than a wallflower after losing her father. This behavior change eventually caused a rift between her and her mother. The war had broken up a once-perfect little family to the point that Doris separated herself from her mother and left the household permanently.

Doris has been part of the orphanage for years and has become increasingly proficient at manipulating the gift she developed on-site. It first scared her, but over time she became more accustomed to speaking with voices that aren't her own – concerningly accustomed. In public, Doris will usually use her own voice, but at times you may be able to hear her use the voices of a different man and woman and respond to them in her own voice. She may be losing it...

Trauma Points:
Death Anxiety – After losing her father, Doris has become increasingly aware of her own mortality, and thoughts of her own death fill her with anxiety. If push comes to shove, she will do anything to stave off the grim reaper.

Fear of Abandonment – Due to the difficulties shaping her teenage years, Doris has difficulty dealing with the end of relationships. Despite this, she wants to make more relationships. She just can't stand the idea of those relationships ending.

Other:
Nicotine Addict – Doris deals with stressful situations by distracting herself with a few cigarettes. Her brand of choice is Woodbine unfiltered cigarettes.

    Appearance
    Piercing eyes of a light brown color sit on visage, a permanent look of confusion etched on her face. Her soft, knee-length hair twirling between her thin fingers, glittering pink under light.

    She's tall, and lithe, little muscles found on her save for the ones she uses to dance. Her figure is thin but sculpture-like.

    She's a person of dazzling beauty if you only look at her appearance. Though the moment you look deeper you get an entirely different idea about her.

    Those piercing eyes? Struck with a wildness that signals to anybody with eyes to back off or get hit. She's something you only want to see from afar.

    Colette's face is very expressive, seeing as that's one of the only ways she can communicate, being that she refuses to speak and all.

    She talks with her face and, er, her hands too and it practically makes up for her usual silence. If you do hear her speak, which is hardly ever, you'd hardly understand her through her thick French accent.
    Personality
    Colette is shy, she hides behind things like a little kid when meeting new people, doesn't understand a lot of social interactions and dislikes most people.

    It takes a long while for her to warm up to anyone, peer or not, but once she does she's practically inseparable from those she's deemed as safe.

    She's largely paranoid about the world, believing anyone and anything to be against her and out to kill her or ruin her life. She often has major panic attacks and has vivid delusions.

    Every Christmas all she wants are materials to make dolls, she doesn't care for much else. Sewing and stitching are a calming pass time for her and she finds companionship in the finished dolls.

    She hates the idea of hurting others and has a strong sense of justice, she dislikes the idea of not being perfect and feels shame in her humanity and the mistakes she's made, minor or not.

    All she's ever truly wanted is to be understood and loved, but she believes anyone who does is lying.

  • He’s overbearingly meticulous with everything. Double knotted shoes, securely tight belts, neatly organized spaces, everything about him is geared towards reducing the amount of misfortunes. Other children may find him overbearing, but that’s because he doesn’t want them to get hurt by his bad luck. He usually tries to keep to himself, only interacting with other children when necessary.

Oddity (this is your power):
  • Misfortune’s Kiss: He brings misfortune equally on himself and others. As a benefit (or a curse), he has precognition of when an unfortunate event will happen, telegraphed by a searing pain on the back of his neck.
    • It’s strange his abilities are more tame while on the manor… perhaps it means that everyone there is already unfortunate.

Hobbies and Interests:
  • Singing: He likes singing because it’s one of the few things he can do without making a mistake. Sheet music gives him paper cuts and instruments just break nearby, but at least, his voice is something that’s a lot easier to monitor and take care of.
  • Nature and Solitude: Being alone in the woods gives peace to Tanner. It also means that the only person getting hurt is him.
  • Reading: It’s the one way he’s able to enjoy himself as he can get lost in knowledge. He always wears gloves and treats every book gingerly. No paper cuts or tears today!
  • Mr. Mopsy: A small teddy bear that was with him since he was abandoned. He carries it nearly everywhere as a ward against even worse misfortunes… not that it works.

Backstory (Fill it in with the story of your parents dying in the war and you arriving to the orphanage. What was this experience like for your character?):
  • Before he could even remembered, he was abandoned by his parents and left at an orphanage (not this one). His life at the orphanage was an awful one, as people around him continuously experienced bad things one after another. It all collapsed when another child nearly died in an accident. Given that Tanner was always around, the orphanage correctly guessed he was the source and transferred him to another orphanage. Then he got transferred again, and again, and again. At one point, he was labeled the “devil’s child” for his odd ability to draw misfortune around him. It all came to a close when sensing something bad was about to happen, he ran out the orphanage, only for it to get bombed during an air raid. That gave him great trauma, and from the next eight years, he'd be handed off from location to location until arriving at Lockheed Orphanage. As the car drove closer to the Orphanage, he felt the familiar tingle at the back of his neck. Instead of feeling fear, he smiled, for perhaps, this was his retribution for ever existing.

Trauma Points (What are your character’s greatest fears?):
  • Other people suffering from misfortune. Due to his oddity, he believes he’s the cause of several peoples’ suffering (for some of which, it was his oddity). He also has serious survivor’s guilt because of his knack to avoid his own misfortunes.

Other:
  • He doesn’t mind dying (or at least, that’s what he tells himself).
  • A Caretaker’s chalk will break every other day when in the presence of Tanner.

Appearance: A lengthy male, about 6'2" tall, with greasy dark hair. He has light gray eyes with dark eyebags encircling them, and his mouth is almost always set in a grimace, however, you'll find it's quite easy to make him smile. He's only 28, but his exhaustion gives him the impression of being older. He often sports a blue waistcoat with a white undershirt; the sleeves are usually rolled up for convenience, and a brass wristwatch hugs his right wrist. Paired with his coat are gray dress pants and black dress shoes.

Personality: Jasper is very practical and heavily despises violence amongst peers. He’s quick to respond with a snide remark if he feels like the other is on the offensive, which often gets him in trouble, although he does have high respect for anyone who’s served (as well as some resentment). He’s naturally inquisitive and often doesn’t share his knowledge with others, instead merely wanting to be an observer in a crowd. He is often seen engaging in small conversations and hobbies with the children the joy and simplicity they bring is a breath of relief for his troubled mind.

Oddity: Injury Transfer- If Jasper places his hands on any type of physical wound, he can transfer the injury and pain to himself. However severed parts must be present for his power to work on those wounds. He's never tried to transfer his wounds to other people.

Backstory: Jasper was born and grew up in Bakewell, England, in 1898. He was a middle child born into a traditional family, with whom he had a strong familial bond. Robert was the oldest by two years and Jasper’s best friend. They played often and had all sorts of extravagant adventures with each other, frequently leading them to stay out well past curfew.

Lillian was born deaf, five years later than Jasper, and he immediately took to learning sign language to communicate with her. He did well in school and proved to be an excellent learner. He found the arts fascinating and excelled in English, working towards becoming a teacher after high school. When the war started, life was put on hold. Robert was drafted, but Jasper couldn’t join due to his age.

On the eve of Jasper's eighteenth birthday, his family received a telegram informing them of their eldest son's death. His parents informed him the following day that they would not allow him to serve in the war, as they could not lose another son.

Henry’s personality can be described as somewhat dry. This isn’t from lack of emotion, but rather a developed lack of expression.

There’s a hint of nihilism in the way he acts. It’s not so much a belief that life is meaningless, but an innate lack of appreciation for it. This can manifest itself in both good and bad ways, with aspects courage but also thrill seeking.

He doesn’t like losing control. He would rather go down than be at another’s mercy, and although he doesn’t realize it, he would do anything to protect things he cares about.

Hobbies and Interests:
Reading is Henry’s greatest hobby. Reading stories seems to have a calming effect on him, and he makes sure to read a little every night. Novels by writers like Dickens were always on his Christmas lists without fail.

Backstory:

Henry was born in 1910 as the second child of three. Being the middle child, Henry didn’t receive quite as much attention as his older brother or younger sister. He wasn’t unloved, though, and his early childhood in London was happy.

It wasn’t until the beginning of the Great War that things began to fall apart. His mother, a nurse, was sent to assist the Western Front. His father, who was recovering from an injury at the time, was exempt. This abrupt fracture in the family made life tense for the next couple of years, but they remained hopeful that eventually it would all blow over.

Then, disaster struck. Henry’s home was destroyed during a zeppelin raid in 1915, and his brother was killed. His father did not have enough money to afford a new living space, so the family ended up moving to a workhouse. They found that they did not have nearly as much freedom as they did before, and Henry’s father had to do labor in order to earn their habitation.

By 1916, Henry’s father had returned to full health and was promptly drafted to fight on the Western Front. The then six year old Henry was woefully unprepared for the responsibility so suddenly thrust upon him. At this point, he was old enough to work, so every day he labored just as his father had. It was hard at first. Henry’s tender hands and weak body were unfit for the hard work that the workhouse demanded. His young sister was the last remaining light in his life. She would attempt to comfort him every night when he came back shaking and exhausted.

The bad news came in 1917. The thought that his parents may not come back had crossed his mind on many occasions, but it could never have prepared henry for the moment that it actually happened. All the toughness that he had built up over the past years collapsed then. He broke down, and as he did, the letter slipped from his hands. He didn’t realize then that he had gone frictionless for the first time.

Henry and his sister only had each other after that. The grief of the past few years never fully went away, but they went on working nonetheless. After a few years, things actually started looking a lot better; the Great War had come to its close, the air raids had stopped, and Henry was getting a little closer to an age where he could find a job outside the workhouse. He was learning to read and write, skills that he hadn’t fully developed yet. He gained an affinity for literature, and would often obtain old and unused books from other residents to read to his sister at night.

But just as before, good things did not last. In 1920, Henry’s sister contracted the Spanish flu. She was dead within days. Henry was put with the sick and infirm, which at this point made up the majority of the “workhouse.” He was not sick or injured, as far as anyone could tell, but for a long time his skin displayed the inexplicable property of not being able to grip onto anything.

Henry was sent to Lockheed Orphanage four years later.

Trauma Points:

Personality: Frida has some serious issues. A strong need to control and dominate are common themes with her. If she has been slighted or insulted in some way, it provokes extremely negative feelings that she is unable to tolerate. Lashing out defensively in anger in order to protect her actual low sense of confidence. The few times when she feels safe enough (usually in her own company or with a caretaker she favors) Frida is sweet and charismatic, shy, and quite funny. Those moments are very few and far between though.

Oddity: Telekinesis -The power to move, manipulate or otherwise interact with objects/matter without physical means

Hobbies and Interests: Surprisingly Frida loves the arts, and she channels her creativity through the storytelling of opera singing. She is very talented despite not being professionally trained. Her dream is to become an Aria for a famous theatre and have the spotlight on her at all times. Besides that Frida knits and reads when she is not bullying everyone around her.

Backstory: Frida's parents were born and raised in Germany. As such once the war broke out her father was drafted into service. However, he had just started a family as his wife was pregnant with their firstborn child, a son who they would name William. So they fled and deserted their countries and first fled to the Netherlands before making their way to Belgium where their first son was born. Being illegal immigrants during a time of war was extremely dangerous so Frida's parents left their eldest with an old couple in Belgium before making their way to the UK, in the hopes that they could make somewhat of a stable life for their family and bring their son with them at a later date.

Crossing the English Channel by boat, her parents had a plan to solidify their status so that they could work and begin to save a home. However, they were homeless, hiding from authorities and being accosted by the locals for their obvious german accents. Her father doing odd jobs to afford a room in a home full of other illegal immigrants. But it was there that her mother became pregnant with her, although it was not happy news. They could barely afford the roof over their heads, and when Frida was born they left her at a local orphanage before fleeing back to Belgium in hopes to find their son.

Since then they have never been heard from again.

Trauma Points: Being deemed worthless, Being abandoned, and the dark.

Other: Frida is very particular about her looks, even though she is usually covered in bandages from fighting with the other orphans.
Frida also has some food insecurity issues, hiding anything she can find under her pillows or mattress.
Due to her short stint as at a local orphanage in the UK, Frida also has some neglect issues, her caretakers openly neglecting to care for her since she is german.

    Ozymandias is often described as a slightly thin boy, rather tall for his age at 175cm. His most notable feature is how his eyes seem to bear a light golden coloring due to his oddity. Their original color was a light brown, although Oz's eyes would eventually change to a full gold when he was around eight. They don't entirely affect his vision, although Oz does complain about having difficulty seeing in full darkness. Oz doesn't really have a preference for any clothing he wears, although does have a fondness for white or pale-colored clothing. He prefers to wear clothing that completely covers his back, where some scars have remained since the time he was thrown down a well. His hair is dark brown. Oz is often seen holding a broken toy or trying(and sometimes succeeeding, I must add) to repair said broken toy.

    Personality: Cheerful and upbeat, Oz is a neverending ray of sunlight that never seems to know when to stop(or to shut up for that matter). He's rather friendly, although he has a temper hot enough to rival the sun itself. Oz is rather naive but surprisingly perceptive for a kid who looks and sounds like an airhead for most of the time. Oz is mostly a polite and modest boy, sometimes too brutally honest and almost demanding with his nearly overbearing personality and almost too dramatic stunts.

    His unusual eyes reflect his cheery personality, immortalized in their innocence. Ozymandias is rather thin, like a statue that will never be complete like sunshine drawn on a portrait, unaware of its nonexistence. Oz is pretty careless most of the time and a bit of a scatterbrain. He's more or less given up taking care of his toys when he knows they'll always end up broken anyways, especially given how his attention often leads to ruin. His tantrums don't...really help said toys. Ozymandias is stubborn to a fault, and once he's dead set on a target you can pretty much only drag him out kicking and screaming.

    Underneath his bubbly personality, Ozymandias is sometimes solemn, sometimes sad and forlorn when he remembers the family that left him behind, the family he stubbornly claims will "return for him" one day. Perhaps its best to leave him to his childhood fantasy.

Ruby has just fallen asleep, but as far as she cares, she's just woken up. When she leaves her body to float out of bed and down the hall, her surroundings blur by in a haze of black and white static. She passes through the walls and approaches her subject, and when she presses her forehead to theirs, her scenery instantly changes into something unrecognizable, completely alien in its geometry and logic. The strings fall into her hands and she becomes this realm’s sole director and puppeteer. She can watch from afar, or like a bored God, she can inflict upon this world whatever punishments or pleasuries she can imagine. This is the power of dream manipulation.
There are a few downsides to her ability; like any young girl, she has many fears. If any are present in a dream, she will remove herself from it in a panic. Furthermore, she can only enter dreams if both she and her subject are asleep. If she's in one and the dreamer wakes up, she will be immediately booted back into her body and woken up as well.

Raised in the shadow of her parents’ elite legacy, Ruby feels the need to walk in their footsteps and fill the role of the refined wealthy woman, no matter her current circumstances. Prim and proper, she finds utmost importance in good manners and etiquette, as well as making sure others act similarly as polite. The type of girl to practice walking with books stacked atop her head, Ruby looks up to and wishes to epitomize everything that defines a proper young lady. This isn’t to say she’s uptight or stiff in any way; while she may study table setting and refuse to go outside on a muddy day, inside lies a wildly creative spirit that she lets free when she’s painting, writing, and especially when she’s asleep, using hers and others heads as a canvas for her imaginative fantasies.

While she tries her best to be kind to her peers, her curious nature sometimes toes the line between perceptive and interested, and persistent/annoying. Combined with her inherent naivety from being her age, her actions may read as rude to someone who doesn’t know her well. Once you get to know her, you’ll discover she merely wants to know as much about the world and others as possible, especially after such a sheltered upbringing.

Her adherence to order and tradition mostly prevents her from breaking any rules to prod around or goof off with her friends, but her curiosity and desire for approval from her more mature peers can sometimes overshadow this. Despite being rather smart and studious, she’s still prone to gullibility and can be easily led into an unsavory situation.

The only force strong enough to smother her urge to satisfy her wonder and break the rules is her anxiety. Ruby is an endless worrier, especially when it comes to accidentally displeasing her elders and somehow earning their contempt. If there is a possibility of disappointing them, she will always fold to that pressure and end up snitching/folding to the rules.

- Abandonment. She's already been left behind by those she treasured most in the world, so she makes sure to hold on to any attachments she has now as hard as she can. She can be rather clingy in this regard.
- Authority. After a childhood of being told to avoid any contact with soldiers, to run and hide at their presence and being taught to see them as bogeymen that can and will snatch her up if they see her, Ruby has a reasonable fear of authority figures. Government agents, police, even the caretakers at the orphanage strike fear into her heart.
- Bugs. She is mortified at anything even relating to bugs, including their webs, wings and hollow corpses. Bringing a bug around her presence is a solid way to reduce a proper young girl to a shrieking, sobbing, mess.

❝ backstory. ❞

Prior to Ruby’s birth, her family Eberhardt, originally from Germany, had been living in Great Britain since the turn of the century. Along with her parents, they once occupied space at the top of the food chain, rubbing elbows with some of the country’s most powerful individuals; not to mention, their significant wealth. All of this changed when the war began. As germanophobia spread across the British populace, her family not only began to lose money and standing, but found themselves the new dregs of society. While German-English were arrested en masse and had their families torn apart left and right, Ruby’s parents changed their names, went into hiding, attempted disguises, anything to avoid the cruelty being imparted on their people. Unfortunately it was all for naught, as soon after the start of the war, they were discovered and conscripted. Before they could be sent away however, they handed over their precious little girl to live with their English maid to protect her from whatever the government had planned for her.

The maid had been close with the family for many years, the one outsider they trusted with their finances and family secrets. After a certain point, she became indistinguishable from a member of the family with the care and trust imparted on her. When the war ended but Ruby’s parents did not return, she swore to raise the girl as best she could to carry out the Eberhardt legacy. While things returned to normal in England and germanophobia began to die down, the maid refused to let her guard down and taught Ruby all throughout her childhood how Germans had been treated during the war, what soldiers did to her family and what became of her mother and father. She never allowed her to assume her original family name, fearing a repeat of what happened years ago, and never let her stray too far from the sidewalk. She felt obligated to protect this child, no matter what it meant. Ruby was raised hearing stories of her family and specifically her parents, what loving people they were, the way they exuded opulence, and what examples of high society they were. All of this influenced the young girl to follow the path of wealthy socialite, and to somehow restore her family to the class they once occupied. Unfortunately, when she was eight years old, the maid fell ill suddenly with typhoid fever, and passed away shortly after. In the span of a month, Ruby had gone from a loving home containing the only person she’d ever gotten close to, to being carted off to an orphanage miles away.

It's usually not too apparent whenever Ruby enters a dream, as long as she is able to stay out of sight of the dreamer. As much as she can play with the story and setting of a dream, she cannot make herself invisible to her subject.

Since she's able to enter and exit dreams without showing her presence, she usually doesn't ask permission before barging in. If you get on her case about it, she'll (usually) leave you alone.

    The youngest child in her family, Gwyneira added a bit of femininity to her household of waddling cockerels. She was the epitome of her mother; blonde with blue eyes and a supple smile that played at the eyes.
    With so many men in the family, Gwyn was never required to help out with farmland chores, despite her nagging attempts. Her mother took her under her wing and taught her basic first aid in hopes of her daughter following in her footsteps as a nurse.

    As she grew older, that perfect little smile began to slip and occasionally, Gwyneira had a penchant for a twitch in the left eye. It started as barely noticeable, just a quirk of hers whenever they were all sitting together at the dining table. Eventually, her brows would furrow, and a grimace taunted that once sweet smile. "It's a headache, " she'd complain, trying to revert her scowl to a gentle smile-- It didn't work.

    Just at a glance, it's evident that Gwyn lacks strength. While she's slim and petite, physical activities are not her forte, and exhaustion greets her easily with bad stamina.

"Wow! It's quite amusing how wrong you are. Now, if you'll allow me, let me correct you..."

Dramatic and confident, Annai quite the divisive person - you either love her or hate her. She's bold and headstrong, with a great deal of intelligence and skill to back it up. She often uses said intelligence and skill to... correct others (even if she's blatantly wrong, which is quite frequent), frequently earning her vitriol from her peers.

However, beneath the surface, Annai is actually a pretty kind person. She doesn't mean to hurt people - she just doesn't quite understand why her actions are considered rude. She comes off as attention-seeking because she's desperate to be praised. She doesn't really believe herself to be superior - she just genuinely thinks that correcting others is the best way to be helpful. Those who befriend her do get to see this softer and kinder side of her, but most don't get that far, seeing as most people are pushed away by her rather abrasive surface.

Oddity:

Annai possesses the ability to create and manipulate sensory illusions. Typically, these are visual, but they can also affect other senses - such as hearing and smell. Her visual illusions appear to be completely real, but as illusions, they lack physicality. She can manipulate them in such a way that she appears to be physically interacting with them, but if another tries to touch them, they'll go right through it.

The more complex the illusion, the more energy it takes for her to create and sustain. Creating an illusion of an apple in her hand or an extra wall in a corridor is far easier than creating a moving illusion of a human person. If she pushes her limits too far, all illusions she is concentrating on will drop.

Hobbies and Interests: Quite a variety of things. However, she has taken a particular interest in painting.

Backstory:

Annai was born on October 9th, 1912. Her family was relatively well-off, and she was provided for with the basic necessities for a decent life. However, her parents did little to care for her beyond the bare minimum. They weren't hostile or cruel - they were just too absorbed in other things to pay much mind to their daughter.

Because of the neglect that she experienced, Annai became desperate to please. She dedicated her entire life to becoming the perfect child - building her skills in every area possible, creating an external facade that she perceived as perfect, and catering to everything her parents needed. Still, she went unnoticed. Despite the lack of fruits in her efforts, she continued on, hoping that she'd one day be acknowledged by someone.

Unfortunately, she would never get the chance. Her parents, a soldier and a nurse, were both called to serve in the war. She was more than capable of caring for herself during this time - she'd learned how to provide for herself. She was not discovered to be living alone until the army came knocking to inform the home's residents of her parents' deaths.

She found it hard to grieve. She'd never really been able to get attached to her parents, after all. She barely even saw the two. Thus, she had no qualms when she was picked up and sent to Lockheed.

Trauma Points:

From day one, death was no stranger to Makoto. His foreign-born merchant of a father was cold in the ground before his first words; the daunting task of raising their son in a Japan wracked by Russian and Chinese political tensions was left to his young mistress. More than a decade later, between the ages of fourteen and fifteen, Makoto witnessed war for the first time as his nation faced the biting winter of Russia's forces. It would not be the last time he'd see combat, but back then, though he was too young to enlist, nothing stopped him from the next deadliest thing: falling in love.


PART II

She was the daughter of a British diplomat, sent secretly to aid in Japan's efforts against their common communist enemy. Elisa's best features were her eyes; rich, robin-egg blue, glimmering like deep-set diamonds against his burnt umber. Combined, his good looks and charming efforts to master English softened her sharp tongue long enough for a passionate affair to ignite.

Nine months later, young lovers became young mother and father, much to the horror of Elisa's family. Makoto would have met his fate if it had not been for the product of this infatuation, whose delightful, rosy countenance utterly charmed them into somewhat begrudging acceptance.

With the war drawn to a close and the last few details wrapped up, Elisa's father set his sights on returning back to Britain, to the city of London. Makoto was allowed to join them, under strict conditions to work in the family business and marry properly en route so at the very least, it would give the folks back home the illusion of propriety.

Integration was only a matter of hard work and cleverness. Two qualities Makoto was in no shortage of, especially when it came to working the automobiles and even the other workers involved. Under his hands and eventual supervision, the manufacture of cars went so smoothly, Elisa's father loathed to let Makoto slip through his fingers.

However, these successes did little to stem the flow of judgment from the extended family and especially, Elisa's mother. To her and them, he was an oriental, communist-blooded blot in their otherwise perfect landscape, to speak nothing of what he dared to bring into the world through one of their own.

Indeed, the condescension of his daughter was near impossible to stand. But for the sake of his father-in-law, a forward-thinking man Makoto had come to respect, he swallowed the bile down.

These fractures continued to deepen and expand well into the 1910s, helped along by the pressures of constant labor strikes, union violence, economic crisis, and political unrest. Elisa's father bent and eventually broke, taking severely ill in the summer of 1913. Suddenly, in the place of fractures, entire chasms had formed over the one question set to determine all their futures: who would inherit his fortune?

The answer was evident for the family, in the way a rotting, dead carcass was plain to see in a sea of white snow. Decorum demanded that one avert the eyes; yet no amount of vicious bickering, infighting, or effort could persuade a father to abandon love for his one and only daughter, no matter who the man by her side was.

Then one night, as all other nights before, his little nurse came into his chambers, ready to measure and help administer her grandfather's daily dose of heroin. In the midst of thanking little Kairi, a series of convulsions befell him. Minutes later he stilled, eyes open yet unseeing. The tragedy was unthinkable. Elisa herself was unconsolable, unable to leave her dear papa's bedside for hours. Blame was a nebulous creature; propriety could not possibly pinpoint it onto the child, but then what was grief if not propriety twisting onto itself?


PART IV

Within weeks, Makoto and his little family were cast out into the country. Their new home was small yet stately, surrounded by swaths of pasture and a grove of apple trees. The country airs were enough to restore Kairi's spirits, but his wife was unmoved, cold even. As the winter months went by, Makoto tried to make the best of their new prospects. The rumbles of world war were, at least for a time, distant.

Away from London's suffocating smoke and diesel, father and daughter found harmony in springtime farm chores and horse riding. On the other hand, while the nature around them bloomed into a painter's palette of colours, Elisa was a statue, greyed and glacial. For Makoto, despite their many disagreements, a peck of the cheek could be afforded. But it seemed no amount of sunlight could bring back the warmth of the embraces and words she once had for her daughter.

July of 1914. Kairi had just celebrated her eighth birthday. Her wish, childlike in its sweetness and desperation, was for her papa to not leave her behind. But at heart, Makoto himself was still a man of boyhood dreams. Dreams full of honor and adventure. Farm chores, no matter how sweet or serene, could not gift him the kind of thrill that came with being part of something bigger than oneself, whether that was in the factory or on the battlefield.

The ideal was just that: nothing more than the vessel in which reality sinks its teeth. The grand vision of many was instead the grand blunder of an elite few, all but guaranteeing that he who commits, would lose himself to it. In many ways, Makoto's experience was no different from the other thousand stories trapped in the trenches beside him.

Makoto would earn the bloody moniker 'Mad Mac', attributed mostly to his bold and most reckless stunt: rushing into enemy territory in the midst of artillery fire and accurately gunning down the assailants. At the cost of nearly tearing his face and upper body off, the British were able to push further than they ever had before in four whole weeks.

But to Makoto, his true anger was reserved for the gods. Every day, in wrath and desperation, he prayed to the kami and to his ancestors for salvation. Every night, peering through the darkness, he would scramble for a puff of a cigarette before turning to the only thing capable of soothing it all: his daughter's charming letters, mostly full of drawings she'd done of animals around the farm.
Until one day, a little over a year before the end of the war, they stopped coming. In their stead, a letter from his wife came, detailing a strange illness. Rest assured, husband, it insisted. Their daughter was on the mend and would write soon.

But she never did.


PART V

The world Makoto saw after the war was one still trying to wake from a nightmare. A shadow of its former self, following around every corner, etched into every face reflected in the windows of businesses long gone. Everything was neither the same, whole nor half of what it once was; only beyond recognition.

Makoto, bandaged and limping, was no different. And neither was she.

Gracefully sat on the front porch of their country manor, Elisa greeted him with a faltering, empty smile. It was quiet, the kind of quiet that would not break no matter how insistent the calls. His daughter was nowhere in sight.

At first, it was death that had taken her. This Elisa insisted was the truth, but Makoto was no longer a love-struck young boy. He saw it in her eyes, the same robin-blue eyes their daughter bore. In them, the story changed.

She was taken away. Taken for her own good, for the safety and health of her mother. The strange illness had taken the girl's sanity, so unnatural it was. Though with the war, she was always half-starved, the poor girl. Yes, famished and thin to bones, nothing like what a proper lady should be. Never did as she was told, her dresses never fitting her quite right; her raven-black hair was always at war with her mother's hairbrush. The noise she would make in the dead of night, and the damage to the attic floorbo---

Makoto could not bear to hear anymore. At that moment, the law of a four-year hell ruled. His hand would have sent her fragile form to the ground if not for his iron grip, locking onto the collar of her dress in its stead. Makoto drew her close, to witness the truth in his eyes just as he had in hers.

She called you mother, Elisa!...
How...could?...


Tears and twisted anguish, full to the brim. A tear escaped, trailing down his cheek. It was met with a crack, a crack into an inner world full of buried resentment, self-inflicted agony, and despair that he could never acknowledge. Then, a sliver of humanity, of heartbreak, all in a single, strained whisper.

"Lock me away, Makoto. Lock me, or kill me, and leave."

· Possesses an avid passion for engines and all things mechanical; Makoto is regularly called upon to work on the Orphanage's vehicles, usually alongside the amateur yet clever help of the Orphanage's groundskeeper, Mateo ( AmberV AmberV ).

· Makoto has extensive knowledge of physics, so to the benefit of the institution and to the probable dread of its students as well as himself in secret, he acts as a substitute instructor in the classroom.

· Ever a man of action, Mac is known for his early morning drills around the perimeters of the Orphanage, often accompanied by the previous day's sullen troublemaker as a means of punishment. He is often the Orphanage's main enforcer of discipline, in all its varied forms.

· One of his signature precious belongings is his Japanese soldier's cap; a parting gift given to him by his mother, whose own father had worn it while fighting the Chinese.

· There is also the yellow scarf; faded and permanently blood-stained in some areas, it is the product of laborious love from his daughter Kairi, wrapping it around his neck just before he boarded the train for the war front. Rarely being seen without it unless it was being washed, he has been known to drape the woolly, large cloth across the backs of a few select orphans for temporary comfort.

· From the trenches to the threshold of the Orphanage, Mac is not shy to keep the edge off by indulging in a cigarette or two with the head maid, Doris ( Paperface Paperface ). Full-blown addiction is still a few steps ahead, but he is getting there.

    Age: 14(biologically and mentally this appears to be this age. )

    Ozymandias is often described as rather tall for his age at 175cm. His most notable feature is how his eyes seem to bear a light golden coloring due to his oddity. Their original color was a light brown, although Oz's eyes would eventually change to a full gold when he was around eight. They don't entirely affect his vision, although Oz does complain about having difficulty seeing in full darkness, giving him a form of colorblindness at night. Oz doesn't really have a preference for any clothing he wears, although does have a fondness for white, dark or pale-colored baggy clothing. He prefers to wear clothing that at least partially covers his back, where some scars have remained since the time he was thrown down a well. His hair is dark brown. Oz is often seen holding a broken toy or trying(and sometimes succeeeding, I must add) to repair said broken toy.

    Personality: Cheerful and upbeat, Oz is a neverending ray of sunlight that never seems to know when to stop(or to shut up for that matter). He's rather friendly, although he has a temper hot enough to rival the sun itself. Oz is rather naive but surprisingly perceptive for a kid who looks and sounds like an airhead for most of the time. Oz is mostly a polite and modest boy, sometimes too brutally honest and almost demanding with his nearly overbearing personality and almost too dramatic stunts.

    His unusual eyes reflect his cheery personality, immortalized in their innocence. Ozymandias is like a statue that will never be complete like sunshine drawn on a portrait, unaware of its nonexistence. Oz is pretty careless most of the time and a bit of a scatterbrain. He's more or less given up taking care of his toys when he knows they'll always end up broken anyways, especially given how his attention often leads to ruin. His tantrums don't...really help said toys. Ozymandias is stubborn to a fault, and once he's dead set on a target you can pretty much only drag him out kicking and screaming.

    Underneath his bubbly personality, Ozymandias is sometimes solemn, sometimes sad and forlorn when he remembers the family that left him behind, yet those times are rare.

The Basics:

The Details:

Personality: Charlotte is a little vain and self-important. She believes that she comes from a great line of great people, and is destined to do great things. She can be a little haughty, a consequence of her upbringing. Her moods very and flow by the day, and she can sometimes be the kindest, gentlest, most helpful person you'll encounter, once you get past the ego. Other days, she's dark, and moody, and likely to snap for any perceived slight. There seems to be some correlation to the weather, although it isn't a 100% guarantee.

Oddity: Siren. Charlotte refers to her powers as her being a siren, although it's not a 100% accurate description. She can manipulate the water around her, bursting pipes and creating bubbles that can let her breathe underwater. Her singing ability is adequate at best, however, and isn't likely to draw one closer so she can drown them beneath the waves.

Hobbies and Interests:
  • Watercolors: Charlotte enjoys painting with watercolors, and can often be found in a brightly lit spot painting away.
  • Swimming: Charlotte's tragedy early in life lit a fire in her to know how to swim. She wants to be able to rescue people who were trapped in ways similar to her. She is quite a prodigious swimmer, and will offer lessons to anyone interested.
  • Volunteering: Charlotte loves helping people out. It makes her feel wanted and helpful, and reminds her of happy times volunteering with her whole family.
  • Motorcycles: Although she won't admit it to anyone, Charlotte is quite fond of motorcycles. She has hidden books in her room about the care and maintenance of motorcycles, and is trying to find a motorcycle of her own so she can learn how to ride. She sees them as a preferable alternative to driving in cars.

Backstory: Charlotte's family was a rather well-off family in the English countryside. Lords of their tiny community in all but official titles. They worked hard at maintaining their stellar image in the town, and public service was of major importance to the family. As such, they donated much of their money to town projects, and were volunteering nearly every weekend. Charlotte's parents had a rather ordinary love story, meeting and falling and love and getting married. They had their first child, a boy named Abraham, in 1905. Their first daughter, Beatrice, in 1907. And at last, of course, they had Charlotte during the summer of 1909.

The children were raised with an emphasis on their self-importance. Young Charlotte would often hear her mother repeat to her that she was beautiful, and spectacular, and that she was going to do amazing things. The young Charlotte wanted nothing more than to please her mother, so she learned the family values at a young age and strove to be a shining example.

When she was five, the war broke out. Charlotte was too young to understand exactly what that meant--there was fighting, yes? But she only saw the immediate effects on her family. The luxuries she had enjoyed before were being rationed. Their volunteer duties doubled, and it was often with the sick and injured that had returned to the countryside. When she was seven, her father decided to join in the fight. It was only right, after all! What better way to give back to the community than to serve your country with your own blood? With the disappearance of her father, Charlotte grew disdainful. Why was there a war at all? Why did she have to give up everything she loved? She became a rather difficult child during these years, unsure how to properly express her emotions in a household that held outward appearance above all.

Then came the news. Her father had been killed in action. The whole family had screamed and wept and cried. For the first time in years, Charlotte felt like everyone else understood her feelings. The day of her father's funeral had been rainy. So thick, you couldn't see more than 3 feet in front of you. Abraham volunteered to stand the vigil over his father's body while the women went home to get dry clothes and fix up something to eat. Charlotte couldn't help but feel a sense of apprehension--the rain was so bad, she wasn't even sure how their driver knew where he was going. It all came to a head when they were going across a wooden bridge. Charlotte felt the road give way into...nothing. And then there were falling into the river.

Panic ensued as the passengers tried to free themselves from the swiftly filling car. But when you have two young girls and a frail woman with you, opening doors against the water pressure was...impossible. The water filled the car, and Charlotte tried to hold her breath for as long as possible, reassuring herself that help was on the way. But eventually, her lungs were bursting, and they forced themselves to breath. She expected the burning sensation of water in her lungs, but instead found...air? She opened her eyes, surprised to see that a tiny bubble of air had managed to survive, and had surrounded her head in a thin shield. She turned to her family, hoping that they had also discovered there own little bubbles of air, but...it wasn't there for them. Charlotte watched them drown, trapped inside the car.

It took hours for the rescue team to locate the car and pull it out of the water. When they opened the doors, they had expected to find four bodies inside. When they found Charlotte, hacking water out of her lungs and very much still alive, it was hailed as a miracle. But then came the issue: what to do with the two orphaned children? Their grandparents were old and frail, unable to be primary caretakers for the very traumatized Charlotte and Abraham. So they were sent off to the best orphanage in the country, one that would be best suited for their needs. As Charlotte became older, her powers became more powerful. When she was fourteen, Abraham aged out of the system, and returned to their family home. When he refused to take Charlotte with him, she threw a fit, causing the plumbing in the walls to explode. The public display of her powers resulted in her being transferred to the Lockheed Orphanage.

Trauma Points:
  • Enclosed spaces: Charlotte hates enclosed spaces. She hates feeling trapped, like she can't escape. She especially hates cars, and refuses to ride in any car that has a hard top. She has managed to accept open-topped cars and convertibles, however.
  • Heavy rain: Light rain doesn't effect her as much as the heavy rain does. When the rain is heavy, Charlotte has severe anxiety, to the point where she will sometimes refuse to even leave her room. If she does, you will not be able to get her to go outside into the rain.

Neuroses and Fears:
  • The Dark: Charlotte doesn't have a fear of the dark per-se, more of an apprehension. She refuses to go into an unlit room, and if she can't find the light source, will go grab her own before entering the room. If she must be in the dark, she faces her gaze straight forward and doesn't look around. When going to bed, she won't turn the light off until she's completely tucked in.
  • Doors: When Charlotte closes a door, she refuses to look behind her as she closes it. She'll shut it behind her back, or glance away so she is not looking out the door frame.
  • Submechanophobia: The fear of man-made objects in water. One only needs to look at Charlotte's personal history to understand why the idea of a man-made object submerged underwater sends her into a panic.

Relationships:
  • Frida: When Charlotte first met Frida, she knew that the two of them would either be the best of friends or the worst of enemies. Luckily for the sanity of the whole orphanage, the both of them chose friendship. Charlotte's amused by Frida's antics, wishing she was brave enough to speak her mind like Frida does. She also feels like Frida gets her on a personal level, both of them ostracized for things outside of their control.
  • Colette: A dear friend of Charlotte's. The sweet girl managed to worm her way into Charlotte's heart, despite her prickly exterior. When Charlotte is having a bad day, Colette is the only person she'll allow near her. She loves watching Colette dance, and the two often work on watercolor paintings together, Colette drawing the scene and Charlotte painting it.
  • Jasper: Charlotte's favorite of the caretakers. She often accompanies him down to the creek, where she'll wade in the water in the warmer months while he checks the shore for treasures.
  • Hank: Roommate. Their relationship is...cold, to say the least. When Charlotte first found out she would be rooming with a boy, she threw a fit that resulted in nothing changing. She's since gotten used to his presence, but still resents being in a room with a boy. They mostly avoid each other, remaining cordial enough that being in the same room isn't an issue.
  • Oliver: Roommate. When she first found out she was rooming with him, she threw a giant fit. Nothing came of it, of course, except cold roommates. She nad Oliver were in a bit of a cold war with each other at first, with both of them taking catty swipes at each other. But as time passed, Charlotte got used to his presence, and her swipes began to lesson. One day, while she was practicing making shapes with her powers, Oliver froze it solid. Instead of getting mad, Charlotte was delighted, and a friendship was born. Charlotte enjoys spending time with the boy, gossiping about the other orphans and practicing their powers together. At meals, the both of them can often be found with fantastically shaped ice in their glasses.
  • Annai: Roommate. Charlotte can find her a bit annoying at times, the way she doesn't have any kind of social cues. On good days, Charlotte tries her best to remain patient with the girl. On bad days, well, for the sake of harmony in the room she steers clear. She does begrudgingly appreciate Annai, however, as her presence keeps Charlotte from being drowned in masculine energy.
  • Quinn: Charlotte and Quinn get along just fine, but their relationship is more based around their mutual friendship with Frida. They'll hang out together and have a good time with Frida there, but they don't hang out outside of her. No particular reason that Charlotte can pick up, and there isn't any kind of bad blood.
  • Doris: Charlotte's second favorite of the caretakers. The woman has an understanding of Charlotte's history that the girl finds comforting. When she can't find Jasper, she likes to go to Doris to chat with. When she's in black moods, Doris can also help cheer her up.

Hello Rcticwolf Rcticwolf ! To answer your question, no, demons are not playable in this RP and likely won’t be playable in any subsequent RP’s in this universe. However, if you want to go ahead and submit a Character Sheet review, you can do so and I’ll take a look :D
