Charona

Admittedly, it took a while for Charona to find the room she had been assigned to. To be fair, the harpy had no idea what the hell a "13" was before coming to the palace and also didn't know how to read, so she cannot be blamed for being too lost. After a bit of looking, she realized that she could've just followed someone who had been called to the same room, which is what she did. Her entrance wasn't as elegant as some of the others.

"Yes, let us begin quickly! We have beasts to kill and lands to acquire! I've wasted enough time trying to figure out what a '13' means and finding this room since we can't all get an escort," She shot a look at the raven-haired mage as she brushed past him to enter the room. It would appear that the mage was more important to the Palace than previously thought and that she would be forced to work with him. Hopefully, he wouldn't bring the group down and would be at least a little useful, although she remained doubtful. "So let us get the formalities out of the way!" She declared, agreeing with the annoyed woman. "I doubt there's much we need to go over anyway. We kill things, this 'emperor' person gives us some land. What is there to talk about?" She questioned, not appearing to be aggravated by the idea of waiting, but just not seeing the need for it.

"If you're worried about us getting to know each other, the best way to do this is through spilling blood together," Charona assured the group. "Also going flying together, but I don't think any of you can do that, so spilling blood will have to do. No need for much talk." She explained, choosing to remain standing rather than sit down. Sitting in a chair was still a foreign thing to her and did not look very comfortable, just seeming all around unnatural.

As the rest of the team members trickled into the room, Lieutenant Ganders pulled down a map from the ceiling, covering the nearby wall with an image of the Kelaran Imperium as well as taking out a small pointer for motioning.

"Welcome all of you to Team 13. It had been decided that as you have all been classified as some of the more powerful people involved in this operation, that you shall be getting the more critical missions." He raised his hands up and waved them around at the group in a sort of dismissive motion.

"Now, before you all clamor about how you didn't sign up for risk, just know that since you are going to be dealing with more danger, there will be a greater avenue of rewards. Before I go any further, I have recently been informed that Sildar Evans as per request of the Emperor himself is being put in charge of your group. Aiding in that, these two soldiers, Olivia Friar and Auric Rosewood will be supplementing your ranks." He moved over to the pair and placed a firm grip on the shoulders of those two before moving back in front of the map.

He pointed on the map to a location to the northeast of the capital, to a small forest. "Your first mission will be to deal with a goblin warlord, who goes by the name of Dirken, in the Grimoire forest to the North of this city. Him and his band have been threatening the destruction of the Marbourette Tribe. They are a tribe of peaceful goblins that live there, taking care of the animals and plants. The exact number of his group is unknown as the forest easily obscures his forces, but for the most part, his forces should be using crude weapons and armor."

Ganders turned back to the rest of the group. "Are there any other questions about this particular mission?"

Mercy had expected the Emperor to send his own trusted men. But sending the Professor? Suspicious. He exchanged a look with Merva, the siren of the Blackwater. The silent message was clear. If something happens, if this is a trap, I have your back. Swee's, too. Mercy did not seem to acknowledge Merva’s empty canister—sirens needed a constant supply of water. But he cared.

The Harpy from the courtyard was also here. From his vantage point, Mercy could not see the Harpy’s reaction to the Lieutenant’s briefing, but he could not have agreed more with what the Harpy had said: If you're worried about us getting to know each other, the best way to do this is through spilling blood together. Or spilling each other’s blood, he thought.

“There are many ways of ‘dealing with’ this goblin warlord. Are we to bring the head?” Mercy said that as if there were far worse options than killing.

On the other side, Swee Hearth was still sitting besides Monica, though her hazel eyes were sneaking glances at the newcomers. The red-cloaked woman that was Olivia looked friendly and approachable. The male elf that was Auric seemed green, but resolute. Then, there was… Swee still could not believe it. Not only was Sildar Evans on their team, he would be leading their team. The girl brushed her auburn hair away from her face. She fidgeted with her nonagon pendant. She was too anxious right now to make eye contact, but her heart was filled with butterflies, joy, and excitement.

Swee imagined a future time where she would get to personally talk with Sildar. What would he tell her? Swee blushed. They were not fantasies of romance, but of aspirations from a young girl, looking up to her heroes. Was it possible that Sildar… would he consider training her? Mercy’s coldwater magic was too cruel and dark for Swee, but she certainly had the affinity for magic.

Olivia herself didn't have any more questions, so she followed the Sergeant to room 13, where already she was met with a rather intimidating scene. She thought she was going to be paired up with a group of noble adventurers, ready to take on the world for the sake of the Imperium, but this... Over half of these people were criminals! Outcasts! She was going to work with them? That was... Frightening. Especially the look Captain Mercy had about him as they entered. She didn't know if it was because of her or if that was his natural state. But either way, suddenly she wasn't so sure she was up for this at this point. But she'd already taken up the assignment, so... No going back now, she supposed "It's a pleasure to m-meet you all..." She said, trying her hardest not to let her voice falter. She regained a bit of her confidence though, as she heard that Sildar Evans was going to be leading the group.

...Wait-

Catherine, on the other hand, was less surprised by this. After hearing that he was to meet with the emperor, and then suddenly meeting with them here, there was no doubt the ruler had paired them up together and specifically picked out the most renowned mage in miles to keep them in check. It only made sense, they'd just be completely out of control otherwise, with the Blackwater crew's reputation. The question still remained though, was this out of fear of their abilities together, or a conspiracy to wipe them out? She decided to remain on guard just in case, and as such said nothing, simply watching the soldiers and mage as one of them - A woman in a red robe - started to gawk openly and speechlessly at Sildar Evans. Like she'd never seen the man before, and only heard of in stories. Which... Well, Catherine just had to wonder where in the city she'd been to have never seen the man even once.

Auric listened as the Lieutenant answered the question about his training. When offered the amulet, he took it into hesitant hands, and listened as the man explained how to summon someone who would train him. Was this a spell of some sort? Was someone trapped in that amulet? Either way, now wouldn't be the time to find out, as the Lieutenant had started walking to lead them to where they would be assigned. The blond elf slipped the chain of the amulet over his head and let it hand around his neck.

Upon arriving at the room where the party of adventurers they would be working with were, his eyebrows shot up. Like Olivia, he also expected adventurers or mercenaries, but rather, these seemed to be people who would be found in slums and the KI underground. It made sense, he supposed, since those would be the people who would need money the most, or perhaps covet it. On top of that, they looked much more seasoned in combat than he was, or at least most of them did. Would he really be any help to this group?

His face paled when the Lieutenant explained how they would be the ones to take on the more dangerous jobs. His fear of being no help became a fear of being a liability. He would definitely need to use that amulet as soon as he had some time. He was planning on going with a "speak only when spoken to" mindset, as he thought was expected of most new recruits, but when Olivia greeted the group he glanced over to her, wondering if a greeting was now expected of him.

Auric took a deep breath before saying in a robust voice, "I look forward to working with you all!" and remained in his soldier's stance.

Sildar kept quiet as the lieutenant explained the particulars of their first assignment; of course Sildar was probably the most experienced being in his 80s. However to the untrained eye, his appearance did not give away his true age. Their first mission was to take on a goblin warlord who had been terrorizing a peaceful goblin tribe, simple enough. What Captain Mercy said next was not very surprising in the slightest.

“There are many ways of ‘dealing with’ this goblin warlord. Are we to bring the head?” This caused a pondering look to appear on Sildar's face before the two individuals, Olivia Friar and Auric Rosewood spoke up and introduced themselves. Sildar remained silent before he spoke up.

"Normally I would agree with you Captain," Sildar started in a baritone voice. "However, given the looming conflict on the horizon between us and the Red Goblin Empire it might be better to gain allies instead of squandering an opportunity. If I've heard this correctly, the Red Goblin Empire takes any non red goblins as slaves; perhaps we can appeal to them. I'm certain they dont want to be slaves. Besides" Sildar turned to the brash harpy before continuing "I think we should know each others' capabilities in and out of combat if we are going to work with each other no?"

Merva Wisp
Merva listened to the Lieutenant give his little speech, she hated the fact that they were dealing with two Imperium Lap Dogs and a Mage who could turn against them and actually pose a little of a threat. Seems like a fair fight but the others in the room had questionable intentions and who knows what side they will take if a fight broke out. She looked at her captain and giving him a stare to confirm that she would have his back if a fight broke out, she knew their would likely be a possibility. Although the main thing the struck her was the fact they thought that she was gonna abide by the ranks for this group, like she signed up to be a soldier, the thought alone was stupid just because the Academy Mage was chosen as leader doesn't mean that they would have to listen to him. If he ever became to annoying they could always get rid of him, accidents do happen after all and they could just go back and say they were killed by their enemy. Wouldn't exactly be a lie since they did get killed by their enemy technically. But on one hand Swee did seem to like him plus he is a academy teacher who has a huge reputation so that means he must be quite useful to have around and she could probably learn a few things or two by being with him. She was going to be making clear to those two idiot soldiers that ranks would not matter to them later she could assure that. After the Lieutenant was done speaking and her captain made his intentions pretty clear, the mage in red introduced themselves saying it was a pleasure to meet them all and that was the biggest lie she ever heard so far today. Then the other soldier started to introduce himself and by how tense, by the book and how naïve he seemed it was pretty clear to her that he was new. Well at least that means one less of a threat, she thought that the kid could just be some farm boy hoping to do some good as a soldier or serve his kingdom or non sense like that, so typical. But they are so fun that she never even drowned a kid like him before although she did leave a few of them in the ocean to fend for themselves. When she heard Sildar speak up though she became a bit more attentive, apparently the mage to go all pacifist and make friends. Although she could sing the siren song to calm people if things ever get too heated in a negotiation, why would she want to help the Imperium more than necessary. It's not their problem after all its purely theirs they are only doing their grunt work for the rewards. When Sildar spoke to the harpy asking if they should get to know each others capabilities she almost laughed. Yep defiantly a trap, "Ha, so you want to know about our capabilities sounds fine why don't you go first then, see if you can start us all off with this friendship tale of giving info to complete strangers we don't know or trust yet." Merva knew that most of the people in this room were not really trusting each pretty obvious and anyone with a brain can see it. Criminals and Guards are defiantly not going to trust each other and if he wanted to know all of her tricks he was defiantly not getting that info here, maybe she will consider it once they get to a ocean or lake though.

When the woman who was associated with Captain Mercy spoke up first after he gave his judgement, Sildar responded with no hesitation to her demands. "Certainly I can be a bit more elucidatory now that we are behind closed doors anyway." Sildar was not going to pull any punches when demonstrating his abilities; except that he was not going to reveal that he was half dragon. Rolling up his sleeves to expose his muscles Sildar drew a dagger from within his robes still sheathed to show the woman. "If any of you heard me speak earlier about being able to handle myself in melee combat that was a half truth. I am more than capable and can fight very well in close quarters." Placing the dagger back in his robes he then held both of his hands aloft. In his right hand he conjured electricity that sparked between his fingers and in his left he conjoured a flame within his palm. Whilst keeping the flame alight, he switched the electrical magic to ice causing his hands to mist signifying the ice that was in his palm. "I'm also an expert when it comes to most magics. For safety reasons I will forgo showing off my more destructive magics until a later time." Stopping the magics in his hands, he clasped them together. "That elucidate any questions?"

Charona

The harpy couldn’t help but laugh as Sildar showed off his abilities. "No, I still have a question. Are you really that insecure in your leadership that you must show off all your tricks and use big words in an attempt to intimidate us into submission?" She questioned, unafraid to call the man out. "I won't lie, I'm impressed that you were able to make him react like that so early on, though I'm not surprised he would do so." Charona gave props to Merva, who had gotten this reaction out of the man and deserved some recognition for it.

"Let's make one thing clear, Sildar. I fear no man. You can flex your muscles, show off your daggers, and flash your magic at me but that will not change. I am a born warrior, while you had to go learn how to be one. I am not afraid of you and the fact words alone made you so concerned as to show everyone your abilities is frankly pathetic. So if you try to put another show like that, I will cut it short. If you want to be a leader, you gotta learn to accept people will challenge you and remain confident. You have done neither. My flock leader would've chucked you off a cliff if you did this in her presence." She crossed her arms, not breaking eye contact. "So do not try that with me and I would also advise not to try that with her, as I imagine she feels the same way I do." Charona stated, referencing Merva once again.

"Anyways to answer your question, no, we don't need to know now. We will find out as soon as we start kicking ass what everyone is capable of, which we should be doing as soon as possible. Getting back to the mission at hand, I say we rip this warlord from his throne and then rip his head from his shoulders. Anyone have any other ideas they'd like to bring forward?" She questioned.

“I agree,” said Mercy. “What exactly, Professor, has this Dirken done to earn our alliance? Exactly how many poor old Marbourette goblins, do you think, has this warlord already slaughtered?” His voice was laced with malice. “Are you suggesting we pardon this warlord’s crimes, for the sake of Kelaran’s greater political war? Surely, not?” There was too much murder in Mercy’s words for them to be well-meant. Although there was cynicism, it also was clear that the Captain wanted bloodshed.

“As for your magic,” Mercy looked at the last wisps of smoke and mist on Sildar’s palms, rising into the air. “We get it. You’re talented.” He gave credit where credit was due. Sildar’s elemental mastery had such a striking resemblance to a past formidable opponent’s—a king, from a distant city known as Graceling. “But talent didn’t make you a leader. The Imperium’s desperate attempt to keep itself afloat did that.”

It was then that Swee actually spoke up. “Guys! Please, listen.” Normally, the girl was too shy around strangers, but something about the young soldier made her find her courage. The soldier that was Auric—who had the pointed ears of an elf, rich blonde hair, and friendly but determined blue eyes—seemed very out of his comfort zone. Swee guessed, based entirely on her own experience, that it was because the recruit felt intimidated by all the skill and reputation in the team. Yet, Auric had spoken with such certainty, and such confidence, that Swee could not help but feel braver herself.

“I know we all come from different places, and we have different ways of doing things. But we’re all on the same team now. We’re team 13.” She looked at her Blackwater crew, then at Auric. “So let’s not bicker about our powers or backgrounds.” Her face reddened from embarrassment. “In fact, I’m probably the weakest one here. But I say we find Warlord Dirken first, and then decide his fate once we cool our heads and know all the facts.”

While Sildar was expecting some push back he was not expecting this level. The harpy had called him out for being swayed by words, and Captain Mercy both complimented his powers and characterized his leadership as only a desperate move. In truth the Emperor really only gave him this position due to his draconic blood, but apart from that he had no true leadership experience. The closest he even had to that was leading a choir of students who gave him no real resistance to his commands. This, however, was on a different level entirely. Swee then spoke up about trying to form some semblance of unity despite their differing methods and backgrounds. It was at this point he decided to speak up. Sighing and then taking a deep breath, Sildar started. Turning to both the Harpy and Captain Mercy he began.

"You're right, you both are absolutely right, painfully so. Hell, I was not born a warrior and i had to train hard to get to where I am right now. It did not come naturally to me at first, but I painfully learned and its why I have such a high opinion of my abilities. Captain, I am indeed also in this position due to whatever the Emperor sees in me, not my exceptional talent. With that said while I am new to this I will be the first to self admit that I may not know the intricacies of true leadership yet, but I intend to learn and this along with protecting others is what drives me. Swee is right though, we need to learn all the facts before we jump to conclusions and if killing the warlord is the best course of action then I will gladly kill him. However, lets see what else may be hidden behind smoke and mirrors first." This was ironic coming from Sildar as he had not shared the fact that he was part dragon, but he would show them soon enough if the situation was right.

Lieutenant Ganders responded to the one question that was directed at him. "You do not need to bring the head. And how you deal with him is at your discretion as long as he is actually dealt with in some matter. It does not matter to the Imperium in what way you deal with him. You are given full autonomy in that matter."

He turns to the two young soldiers and hands them each a piece of parchment. "This is a magical parchment that will keep you up to date on on goings and so that you can give status reports on your mission as well as give you the next mission after you complete this one."

The senior soldier turned back to the group around the room. "After each mission, you will be able to come back to Teleran and resupply as well as get fresh and upgraded equipment as per your current agreement with the Imperium for taking on this task. Once all the tasks have been completed, you will each receive the full extent of your rewards: pardons, riches and land with titles. Now as long as there are no other questions, I shall be taking my leave."

If there are no other questions, the lieutenant will leave the room so that everyone can get themselves straightened out and head to the forest to deal with their first task.

Room 13
Catherine agreed with Sildar that she would rather solve this without bloodshed, however she knew that probably wouldn't happen. Not only because the Goblin probably wouldn't go down without a fight, but well... This group was a complete mess, and there seemed to be two main points of contention here. Captain Mercy clearly didn't have a very good rein on his crew, as he let one of them ask Sildar to demonstrate his power before immediately lambasting him for doing so, for absolutely no reason at all. They were going to work together, and on top of that Sildar was one loyal to the Imperium. They needed every piece of info about him and the others that they could get, so they can plan their attacks accordingly, and be prepared for any eventual betrayals. Demanding that he not show off what he can do was incredibly foolish, on Mercy's part.

But he seemed to only do so in the bandwagon of the Harpy girl, who Catherine really didn't want to bother so much as remembering her name. She in no way belonged here at all, as she was already clearly incapable of getting along with anyone, instead yelling at them for incredibly minor things that don't really matter and urging them to charge blindly into the fray and get them all killed. Catherine only knew her for a few minutes and already she was desperately wishing they could get rid of her. She added nothing but mindless screaming and blood to the team. Perhaps she should have asked the Lieutenant before he left if she could be removed.

Or, perhaps, if Catherine could instead go solo. She liked it better that way anyway, and things like this was exactly why.

Merva Wisp
Merva took a bit of interest when he decided to demonstrate his powers and explain what he could do although she did get annoyed when he was told to stop, the more info he spreads about himself the easier it is to take him down should the need arise after all. She didn't really have intentions to boast about her own capabilities yet so that's a plus from their interruption, basically means they don't have to return the favor most likely. She somewhat agreed with her captain on the kill path but she didn't really care what path they took either whichever one was easier she would honestly take and if things went bad. She would take her captain and Swee and use her illusion magic to bail out. Although once the Lieutenant spoke once again she perked up and decided to ask one question before he decided to go, "Ah, yes just one question, where is the nearest well I would like to resupply my water supply before making a long trip into some woods that's filled with Goblins." She smirked as she was able to give off a perfect excuse to get some water without giving much of a hint about what she was. She wasn't fond of trusting people with her race unless she knew considered them allies or they were going to die.

Room 13
Lieutenant Gander would make sure that each and every question was answered before he left the room. It was his job to ensure that they would be as prepared as possible against the dangers that lurked out and about in the world and to bring peace and tranquility back to the Kelarin Imperium. He wasn't however expecting the question that Merva Wisp had asked, but he would still answer it all the same.

"The nearest accessible well would be in the marketplace. However, since you are all guest of his majesty, you may use the royal fountains to refill your water skins before you begin your journey."

Monica Battaglia
Palace Room 13

There it goes again. Another person bringing up that accursed Red Goblin Empire. This time it was Sildar speaking of their mistreatment of anyone or anything that wasn't like them. Every time someone has brought up the fact that capture and enslave others, Monica has wanted to raise her hand and show them that she is a survivor of that nightmarish place. If they were to try and make allies in their fight against the Red Goblin Empire, perhaps her testimony could influence them to assist the Kelaran Imperium. It would be a great step in Monica's quest to help others. However, there was a problem. As much as her mind wanted to do it, she wasn't sure her body would follow suit. What if she lost control of herself while trying to open up about her past? The nightmares still haven't gone away either. She began to doubt herself, questioning if she has the strength to achieve the goals she set.

Meanwhile, things were getting tense in the room. The thin strings of common friendliness had been sliced to pieces by judgmental remarks and clashing mindsets. Monica chose to stay out of it as she was becoming more and more uncomfortable. Even with Swee's optimism cooling the brewing madness off, it was clear that it would take a while before these people could accept trusting each other. That was understandable since most of the people were meeting for the first time. The nurse needed a moment to escape and collect her thoughts. Thankfully, an opportunity came when Merva asked about a well to replenish her water supply. That sounded like a great idea as Monica wasn't sure how long they woukd be out on their mission. She also didn't know what the weather conditions would be like. Now would be the chance to refill the bottle of water she drank earlier. She stands up walks to the room's entrance. Then, she looks at Lieutenant Gander.
"Excuse me, Lieutenant, do we need a guide to locate the royal fountains, or is it easy enough for us to get there without one?"

What a mess the two soldiers had walked into. Well, maybe Olivia had been used to this, but Auric definitely was not. It seemed the group decided to have a show of their power, since some were not happy with who was appointed leader, and then began arguing about what they would do with this goblin tribe they were to go after. A suggestion of killing him was shown, and then a suggestion of becoming allies with the tribe was offered as a counterargument. He was just a new recruit and already he felt as if he had found himself in a conversation for a military general. It seemed the general didn't even have a say in this argument though, and told the group they were to do what they thought was best. Was that what was really best though? This was a group of criminals and low-lives. Would their decisions really be what was best for the empire?

Then again, it's not like Auric knew anything about politics. Becoming allies with the goblins seemed like a good idea, but he had no idea if the alliance could end up being detrimental to them in the long term. And perhaps parading the tribe leader's head around may deter others from crossing their paths. He looked over to Sildar, the man that flashed his dagger and conjured some magic earlier, and the one who would lead the group. Maybe he could talk to him. That brought up the issue of his role in the group. Hopefully if he was just supposed to be extra muscle and just follow along with the group's decisions, there wouldn't be any consequences for a suggestion.

Lieutenant Gander seemed to wrap the discussions up though, asking for any final questions. The soldier took the piece of parchment from the senior officer and slowly unrolled it. It was empty now, but apparently updates from Teleran would appear on it, and they were to write on it to respond. He hadn't come across any magical object like this, and his first childish instinct was to write something to test it out. He held off though, believing he needed to have some semblance of maturity now that he was a soldier.

It seemed one of the group members' first decisions was to go and get some water for the trip. It was important, he supposed, but the soldiers had all their supplies at the barracks. It would be a good idea for him to return there and gather some provisions for the journey, he decided. Maybe if they weren't going to leave immediately, he could even try to use the amulet he was given.

The elf stood at attention. "Sir! Permission to return to the barracks to prepare, sir!" he stated. His stance was firm, though his eyes showed unease as he glanced between the Lieutenant and Sildar for a response, as well as Olivia to see whether she would want to return as well.

Room 13 (Swee)

Swee glanced with her hazel eyes, worriedly. As the team talked about refilling water, the tension hung in the air like a stifling mist. More often than not, it was hard for Swee to hide her insecurities. Beneath the uncertainty, however, she had a bright beacon of hope. She always did. It was not the naive kind of optimism, either. Swee was young, but she had enough pragmatism to realize that, sometimes, dreams stayed as dreams. But the girl still dreamt, and she still believed, because she understood that—regardless of outcome—hope was the first step to making things happen.

She gave Merva a small and happy smile. It was a relief that the Siren would finally be able to replenish her water supply. Swee then listened as Monica, from the entrance of the room, asked Lieutenant Ganders about directions to the royal fountains. Swee got up from her seat and walked over towards the entrance. “I’m going to refill my waterskin too,” she said, to no one in particular. Since Auric had requested permission to go back to the barracks—the elf spoke with a sort of unknowing bravery—Swee assumed the team was going to be split for a while. She kind of liked Monica. She wanted to hang around her.

Room 13 (Mercy)

From across the room, Mercy nodded briefly at Swee. He cared for the girl, though he would not be worried if Merva was by her side. Mercy got up, retrieved his battle axe. “Lieutenant,” he said curtly, “Where are we meeting? Wherever it is, I will meet you all there.” The Captain’s tone implied that he did not need water. To others, inability to eat or drink was a curse, but for Mercy, it was just one of the many favorable exchanges for power.

As he waited for the Lieutenant’s answer, he surveyed the group once more. The Gilgamesh Professor had agreed with Swee, and spoken with unexpected honesty about his leadership position. He could tell Swee admired Sildar. Catherine remained silent, but her lips gave away her distaste for Mercy, and her eyes showed a flicker of desire to go alone. He was not bothered. Catherine was probably the second person here he agreed with the most, next to the Charona. Like the Harpy, Mercy saw no use for a prior showcase of power. Things like that quickly devolved into boasting. Once they were on the battlefield, when it became life or death, everyone would understand each other soon enough.

Thankfully, the lieutenant's interruption cooled down some of the tempers in the room after hearing the mixed bag of people he was dealing with. What surprised Sildar however was the fact that the use royal fountain to fill waterskins was permitted causing him to cock an eyebrow at the Lieutenant. At the mention of this, various individuals such as Swee, Merva, and Monica asked to go fill their waterskins with the harpy remaining silent, Mercy asking where people would meet and Auric wanting to go back to the barracks to get his own supplies. This could be a good chance to get to know Swee and Merva and further speak to Monica after all. As all of these thoughts raced through his mind, Sildar turned and spoke to Auric. "Of course Auric, you may go and get your things from the barracks. I for one agree with the suggestion that we should get water." Turing to the lieutenant Sildar asked, "Where exactly should we meet first of all? By the gate so we can move as a group?"

((Currently dealing with lots and lots of projects so apologizes for the small post.))

Room 13

Lieutenant Gander turned to the elven recruit. "Permission granted recruit. Just make sure that you report back to Sildar afterwards."

He turned back to the others. "I will not be staying with you all. I have to brief other groups on their missions. But yes, you can meet at the city gates before heading out into the wilderness."

Palace Water Fountain
A gorgeous fountain of water with statues of angels and dragons mingled about with water spouting out of dragons mouths and vases held by angels. Some people filled up water skins for their journeys as they talked among themselves. One individual attempted to put something else other than a container into the fountain and was immediately grabbed and dragged away by the guards as they were kicking and screaming. It seemed that even the fountain was carefully guarded and that any act of putting the royal family of any of the guests in the palace, even current criminals, was a punishable offense.

Palace Water Fountain

At the royal fountains, Swee was accompanied by Monica, Merva, and the other team members who had decided to go. She also wondered if Sildar had been here before. But the girl almost forgot about the task at hand—refilling her own waterskin—when she saw the beauty that was the fountains. Intricately carved statues of angels and dragons, made out of white marble and stone, as well as other, more colorful materials. The craftsmanship was so precise, and so delicate, that Swee almost did not notice the guards dragging away a person who was attempting to put something into the crystal clear water.

It was not that Swee had never seen such wonder before. She was from the royal family of the City of Hearth, after all. But all the nobility and royal blood in her could not take away Swee’s love for seeing new places, and her joy at adventuring to new lands. She turned to Monica with a smile, “What a place, isn’t it?” And throughout all this, Swee was also relieved that Merva would finally get to refill her canteens. They needed to be prepared.

City Gates

Choosing not to fill his waterskin—he could not have drank or ate, even if he had wanted to—Mercy would be waiting for the group at the City Gates, as told by the Lieutenant.

Sildar began to gaze upon the intricately carved fountain and appreciated the craftsmanship the stonemason put into it. White marble and stone created an interesting aesthetic when used together. He sure as hell did not have that much talent in stone-crafting as opposed to painting. He was about to put in his own water skin when he noticed, or rather, was made keenly aware of someone trying to put something into the royal fountain. ~Idiot~ he thought to himself. Of course once his water skin was full of water, he became aware that he was parched from the scene earlier. However, despite how thirsty he was he was not about to drink cold water, he preferred warmer water. Holding up his water skin in his right hand he conjured a small , yet controlled, blue flame and warmed up his waterskin before involuntarily taking a breath. His thirst quenched, he refilled the waterskin and afterwords began to look at the fountain in more detail whilst he waited for his team to finish.

Palace Fountain

The fountain was an impressive sight to behold. Everything from the angels holding vases to the dragons spitting out water felt majestic. Monica took a few minutes to take it all in. To her, it brought back memories. Good ones this time. She made a mental note to return here as often as she could. It could serve as her go-to place when she needed to clear her mind or reflect on something. Monica runs a hand across the head of one of the dragon statues like she was petting an actual dragon. Nature had always amused her. One of the vase-holding angels became the second pitstop. An almost tearful smile flows across her face for a moment. Peace, tranquillity, and flowing water. Just like home.

The smile didn't last long though as she was thrown back into reality by the sounds of someone getting carried out of the palace. They had apparently broken a rule by trying to place a foreign object that wasn't some form of container inside of the fountain. Oddly enough, as frightening as the sight was, it was also relieving. These guards were adamant and dedicated to their jobs. They even went as far as to protect the purity of the water the fountain contained. Oh, right, the fountain! The half-mermaid had almost completely fogotten the reason she went there to begin with. She opens her backpack and takes out the canister of water she had drank earlier. It was the only empty one and that was about to change. Monica fills it back up and places it in the backpack to go with the other five.

After replenishing her water supply, Monica stares at her reflection in the fountain. Anyone looking would just see a regular reflection. Monica sees her mermaid form staring back at her. She was fearless, ruthless, and vengefully angry. The cold stare from the mermaid sent chills down Monica's spine each time the two locked eyes. Thanfully, Swee's voice ended the hypnosis. Apparently, she was also amused by her surroundings. Monica wasn't sure why Swee was so fond of her, but the more she hung around her, the more she gained a desire to protect her. She turns her attention to the girl and smiles.

"It's quite amazing, much like your abundance of happiness. I believe I'll have to come here more often." She replied. Monica then had an idea and returned her focus to the fountain. After concentrating for a few moments, she reaches in and pulls out a makeshift crown. She gives the crown to Swee before asking her a question. "So, what is it that keeps you so optimistic?" Monica wanted to know more about her...let's call them combustible elements until they get enough chemistry to be called teammates. She was worried that she would eventually ask the wrong person the wrong question, but it's a risk that she's willing to take.

As Swee took a tentative sip from her own waterskin, she saw Sildar conjure a blue flame with ease. Whoa! Cool!… well, technically, warm! Her mind drifted towards her birthplace, in the City of Hearth. Every evening, the Firestarters would use a similar type of magik to light the cozy fireplaces inside each building. Swee had long figured that, if she had any talent for magic at all, it would probably be of elemental fire.

At Monica’s question, “Well…” Swee thought for a moment. It wasn’t exactly something she articulated into words often. “I just think that everything starts with hope. Its what keeps things alive, you know? Every goal, every dream, every aspiration… they all have to start somewhere.” Swee put her palm to her heart. “And it starts here, with you.” She gave a small laugh, realizing how cheesy she must have sounded. “That’s what I believe in, at least. And I'd rather bring up the good in people, instead of rejecting them for their faults. People can change. I've seen it." It did not take any names to know that Swee's last words were referring to Mercy. The girl began to turn away towards the fountain, but hesitated. She looked at Monica again. “I mean… of course, its not always sunshine and happiness. I get scared sometimes, and I get sad.” She smiled sheepishly. “I’m human! But I just know that… however dim it may get, that you can always find a light in the dark.”

Swee then glanced towards Merva, wondering if the siren was satisfied with Teleran’s water supply. She couldn't spot Catherine, but figured she was also here somewhere. From the looks of it, everyone now had their chance to refill their waterskins.

Merva Wisp
Merva took her time in refilling her water canisters, she planned to buy a few more once she visited the marketplace before they left, she didn't really expect it to be this crowded. But she also used her water powers a bit to manipulate some of the water onto her hair when she thought no one was looking, in which the water was quickly absorbed. She then landed her eyes upon Swee who appeared to be talking with one of their trip companions, she took note of how Swee was growing expentionally close with that girl in particular. She suspected that it was probably something that she sees in her that she failed to see, or not. Merva then got up from the fountains ledge and made her way over to Swee "I see you two are certainly getting along, well i plan to head over to the market to get a few supplies before we leave defiantly is best to be fully prepared."
