Combat

What happens in combat is largely determined by using the D20 battle dice (BD for short). A player is allowed to perform one combat action per turn in battle. Combat actions include making an attack, using a skill or using items.

To make an attack you must first know the result of your BD roll. The BD roll can be obtained using the RPN dice roller and should be linked in your post at the bottom. Once you have your BD result, you can begin to write the post to describe your characters attack.

Combat Roll Results Chart
1-2 3-10 11-17 18-20
Critical Fail(Miss. A natural roll guaruntees this result.) Failure(Miss. Can be affected by Hit and Dodge.) Hit(Normal damage. Can be affected by Hit and Dodge.) Critical Hit(+50% damage, rounded down. A natural roll guarantees this result.)

Some items or skills can modify the result of the BD, so they must be applied to the value as well. For example: Having rank 1 in Dexterity, which represents your Hit value, will increase your dice result by +1. So a BD roll of a 10, which generally would result in a failure, instead becomes a success as 10 + 1 gives you a total of 11. An 11 is a success. Likewise, if an enemy has Rank 1 Agility, which represents the Dodge value, the roll is reduced to 10 and becomes a miss again.

Players have a base rank of 1 power and do an additional 1 damage with most types of basic weapon. Damage dealt can be improved through skills, and items. If you suffer damage from an enemy or another adventurer, that damage is subtracted from your current health. Just as damage can be increased through items and skills, damage taken can also be reduced through similar means. But despite how much damage is dealt or mitigated, a successful hit will always do a minimum of 1 damage. You can never become immune to taking damage through high mitigation value from armour or skills.
