The Seeker of Jello
Welcome to The Fault.

"Four generations outside of their underground city, Humanity has made an attempt to know what their world truly holds. The land is cracked with canyons and crevasses that are so deep that stories talk about what lies at the bottom. While the cracks prohibit exploration, the beasts can fell even the best of fighters.

Some beasts are human themselves.

Four cities, each of them designed to keep out the denizens that seek to harm humanity. Each city is protected by the Royal Guards that each run their own rules, but are ran by the same crown."

There are Four Cities in the Fault that the Humans have taken claims to.

  • Erodel- The largest city, about the size of all other cities put together. The claims are seperated in four districts; The poor Lower district, the diverse trading district (Middle District), the rich and wealthy Upper District, or the old city Underground.
  • The Forge- Built into the side of a canyon, this is the first city built outside Erodel and is a major mining hub.
  • Bastion- Farming hub and a city founded by expedition groups on their travels. The land is fertile and not broken like usual land in The Fault.
  • Waterfront- The city that has the smallest guard count of all. This city is heavily crime ridden

You, the character, can really be anything in this world. (Ranging from a poor lower district worker to a rich noble that works along side the king. Though the latter has a restriction as there can't be ONLY nobles.) This world does have alchemists, inventors, and many other science specialists. (Mages are a thing, but magic is handled on a "scientific" situation.)

This is a Steampunk RP that based of a personal story written by me, though it's inspired by MANY factors that if I were to write them I would cover the page. The information that I wrote is only a small portion, so if there is something that you aren't sure about, just ask and I can reply with better info.

Cool idea but before I commit can you explain how magic works in this world?
Mages are essentially Scientists, but keep around items to protect themselves. They use chemicals, creations, and powders to get their "spells".
(Example: In the story this is based off of, one character had a staff that shot ice. The ice was formed within the staff by a chemical the character made, mixed with the pressure in the same unit, causes the ice to shoot from it after the ice is formed.)

I do want to add, it doesn't have to be 100% factual. That staff has many real world flaws, but it keeps the "Magical" aspect away. Not to say that the chemicals, plants, and powders can't be created to fit the logic.

Does this answer your question?

So im confused about a thing. Are we people in the cravases or naw? Sorry if this sounds dumb but I just got a little confused about where are characters are from, are in in the underground city or above ground. Also is this going to casual or detailed? (crossing fingers for casual)

There is people in one of the large crevasses, but its near the top (The settlement's name is "The Forge" and its only really protected from walls on the surface around the crevasse. Being built into the side of the crevasse makes it more of a linear city.)

The bottom of that crevasse isn't all that safe for various reasons. Think about The Fault being if you were to go into the real world ocean without water. There's those trenches that are extremely deep that it takes special equipment to go into are relatively common. That is essentially the basic problem why they don't just build 100% into them, aside from other factors.

The people are from an underground city, which is beneath Erodel. Keep in mind this is five generations after, so the amount of people is significantly more than it was when they first emerged.

Rough summery of the path they took.

Underground->Surface (Erodel)->The Forge->Waterhole->Bastion.

It's casual, but some posts can be to the level of detailed for the sake that this world is a little bit.... well... confusing.

Did this answer your questions?

Yeah I did. Count me in brother! Oh what does being an alchemist entail?
Alchemists can be looked at as the doctors in this world. Creating potions and tonics to help people and poisons and drugs to harm their enemies. Though its really all in the eye of the person for what they do with their knowledge. (> :) )

(Side Bit: A character in the story, who will be talked about a little through a "newsprint" for what he did, He essentially became an alchemist who "removed" people from the lower district who were known to be criminals.)

I'm up for this! I'm interested in playing a lower-class individual, maybe from the underground of Erodel or somewhere in Waterfront. Will there be a bit more info on these places in the thread once it's typed up?

Yep, if you have a specific question I can answer it now.

(I'm actually going to be making this thread sooner as I am getting a lot more replies than I expected.)

Excellent! I've got nothing specific yet, I'll be fine with the general info once it's up.

I may end up in waterfront. How far is that from the Forge? Also have flying things been invented yet? What about religion whats that like?

Waterfront is a significant distance from all cities, with The Forge being farther away than the others.

Flying things have been invented, mostly as a need to get from city-to-city. Airships are the main air-based transport, with them being in very few numbers, Though they aren't cheap due to their recent creation and very few know how to pilot them. (Piloting them takes more than a single person. *Cough*Roleplayablethings*cough*)

The Church of Redemption is the religion based around the basic idea of "Do good, and you will live forever in peace. Do evil, you will go to a place fitting." Those who do bad things are considered to have destinies of doing bad things again, and must try their hardest to redeem themselves. Every city has a church for this religion, and It is also monotheist (The belief in one god). (Yes, it is based off a real religion. I have no intention to show it in a negative light regardless, just so no one's beliefs are insulted.)

Are trains a thing? Tell me if a person living in waterfront worked all year would they be able to vist the Forge annually, which of the three territories are the prime spots for inventors? Which is a prime spot for alchemists and which for mages? Should I take all these questions in into private chat?
