Realistic or Modern Just Survive Somehow (A zombie rp)

"Asswipe." She would heartily chuckle as she repeated Jace's words ridiculing Alex. Although she hadn't really known Alex, Emmeline has heard quite a bit about his notorious attitude. Then again, she didn't really converse with the rest of the survivors living in the school. Emmeline was like the ghost of the school; always keeping to herself and hidden behind the crowd. "I'm like a loner too, I guess. Loner buddies then?" Emmeline would half-joke but sincerely say, giving him a bit of a nudge with her pointed elbow when she scooted closer to his side. Jace was a good guy because she knew that he took great care of his sisters. Emmeline respected Jace in that way, but she never had the courage or sociable personality to tell him how much she admired his benevolence. Realizing that the two gardeners were finally chit-chatting, the blonde woman hid her obvious blush behind the lengthy golden veil of her hair. "Anyways, I think it'll work. Doesn't hurt to try, right? And Alex is somewhat reasonable." Emmeline softly spoke as she overlooked the garden with a glimmer in her eyes. She had to admit, she saw the better side of people. Emmeline always believed that there's a good side to a bad side and vice versa. Without one or the other, the balance of nature would be corrupted, though it seemed as if nature was already dead by the looks of it. The apocalypse tested survivors by forcing them to determine what a human life is worth. It's either kill or be killed in this harsh reality now. Emmeline chose to kill, and it only made her sanity worse when recounting the total of both walkers and humans she's killed. Her will to survive was strong, but how long could that endurance last? This thought caused her to clench her chest while her other hand rested atop her forehead. "When do you want to ask?" She asked Jace, not leaving her distant gaze from the green vines of the garden.

Nobody really knew about Ace's PTSD but most people would notice him stare into space while doing certain activities and when confronted about him staring he would try to make up a lie on the spot. Ace heard a saw go off triggering another flashback of the same man using a saw on an arm but was soon "awoken" by Artorias. "I cut myself fixing something" said Ace to Artorias lying to him about cutting himself on his machete because he didn't want to remind himself about the horrific things he saw while in the military

Brandon sat slumped against the wall of the school, his black hair was damp and dangled down over his eyes. He had been outside all night and had drank heavily, sleeping through the early mornings rain. He was only awoken by the piercing pain that richoeted through his head and the feint voices that flowed from the garden. He clumsily adjusted his position against the wall, catching a glimpse of himself in a muddy puddle. He looked quite different then he did two weeks ago, before the death of his four year old son, Robert. He had been looked up to in the community as the co-leader, he was hard working, diligent , friends with everyone and contributed greatly to the smooth running of the school; but now, now Brandon spent his days mourning his son, which led to him to drink and eventually passout somewhere around the school. He thought about getting up for a second but energy seemed to be drained from his body like it was everyday and even the prospect of walking from one side of the school to the other seemed a tiring task. He simply sat there listening to the murmurs of whoever was in the garden.

~ Liza Stone ~

Liza was the first one in her family classroom to wake up. Her dad had stayed up last night, worrying about the weather. The girl was a little bit sad, was it because of the weather? Or was she worrying about her dad.

A small frown puckered her lips as she went into the classroom closet to change into her favorite pair of leggings and her old school dress. Her hair was the tricky part... she shouldn't have went to bed with it wet. Now she looked like someone had shocked her. But she managed to pull it back in a bun then eventually make her way to Ms. Lisas teaching room.

The book that the woman handed out looked confusing... Liza (BTW it's Lie~Zah) was always a smart child, but reading bit chapter books like this one, she struggled with... it made her nervous. But, her dad told her to do good, so she would. Liza nervously picked at her finger nails before raising her hand "is this book going to be too hard? I'm not good at following along to big books"

~ James Stone ~

By the time James had woken up, his daughter had already gone to class... he was a bit upset he didn't get to tell her goodbye for the day, but he'd get over that. He'd get to see her that night anyway.

After cleaning up James had gotten dressed in his work clothes and made his way outside to the garden to check if everything was alright "who's an asswipe? " James smirked a bit as he stood beside Jace and looked at Emmeline then down at Jace "so how's the garden looking?"

He wasn't about to tell his people that he was up worried most of the night, for the guards and for the garden and just everything in general. It dad after all, rain for the first time in a while.

~ Hudson Avery ~

Hudson stood by the fence, or on one of the lifts that stood beside it to see over. Her back was getting a little sore, mostly from standing there a lot of a day. And she couldn't exactly lean against the ledge... because there was barbed wire.

It had been quiet most of the morning, so she decided to take a little break and sit down. So she sat on the edge of the lift and dangled her legs over the edge, looking at all the working people. She saw their leader talking to the gardeners and sighed, running her hand through her hair.

Hudson was a bit glad that she didn't have to be on guard duty during the rain. She has been really tired lately, evertime she goes to sleep she wakes up because of nightmares, not because of the walkers... But because everybody in the community turns against each other in the dream. Hudson frowned a little and looked down at her hands, twirling the little rings around her finger.

@Lonelytaco @WhisperSweetNothings

"Alright Ace, well lets get that cleaned up and stitched, but I highly recommend you dont lie to your doctor." Artorias gave Ace a stern look, "I'm a military scientist but i treated wounds for my fellow ship mates. I know the difference between a cut made by machinery and equipment and one made by a weapon. This laceration is too clean for it to have been done from maintenance equipment. More than likely you cut yourself with a blade, probably one of your own more than like." Artorias put some hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) on the wound and set to stitching it up, carefully doing it so as to lesson the pain for Ace. After the stitches were applied he wrapped some bandage tape around it. "Alright, doctors orders Ace, you are not to leave to go hunt till I say that wound is healed enough. And you should really talk to the therapist about that PTSD you got going on. Oh dont act like you dont know what I'm talking about, the quick looking around, the lying, the seclusion and grumpy attitude. Especially the thousand yard stare you always have, seen it at the carrier I was assigned to. Dont worry though, doctor patient confidentiality prevents me from talking about it to anyone else. Now get a move on, I have to work on my projects." Artorias turned to his work table and Mew gave Ace a quick "Mew!" before jumping on the table to help Artorias with his project, and by help? He lies down on the table completely obstructing Artorias work. "Mew!" Artorias crossed his arms and gave the feline a father like stare. "You know I want to finish this syringer already, why dont you ever let me work you little cute pain in the ass." He was rubbing Mew's belly as he was lecturing him, Artorias wasnt allowed to carry his pistol with him as per the rules of Sanctuary, which he hesistantly locked in the armory due to the sentimental value it has. But was smart about it, the pistol wont work because he took away the firing pin as well as the spring from its action. He keeps those on his person at all times, even when hes showering. But his recent project is a loop hole he thought of, its not a fire arm nor is it a gun.

Jace smiled and laughed a bit when Emmeline repeated what he had said about Alex. " Yeah.. he's a real asswipe if I've ever seen one. " he said smirking as he calmed his laughing fit. His eyes scanned the garden and he let out a faint sigh; it would take days before the water all evaporated or sunk into the ground, and until then, he and Emmeline would have to work in the mud. He turned and looked at Emmeline as she spoke " Yeah, I guess he can be reasonable.." he said this dragging off. He didn't particularly like Alex because he knew that him and Sam were quite keen of each other, yet he barely ever saw them together. They just seemed to get along better than average strangers would. Alex was an idiot, and Jace couldn't stand the idea of Sam and him even being friends. Jace's face flushed over as he thought of this and almost didn't hear Emmeline's question. " Well, Alex has probably already left for his run, but he should be back by dinner. We'll just pull him out of the lunchroom and ask." he said turning his head just in time to see James making his way over. Jace stood and brushed his pants off before replying to him, "Oh, y'know. Dipshit Alex.".

Lisa watched as Cal ran in quietly. She rolled her eyes and waited for him to get seated before asking in a stern voice, "Where have you been Cal.". She looked at him and tapped her foot gently awaiting an answer, already having a idea of what it would be. Cal was barely ever in class on time, and Lisa believed it was because he was to busy goofing off Lazuli. Lisa already had plans to discuss putting the two in separate dorms with the leader. She didn't want to be the bad guy, however it was what was best for Cal. Lisa's thoughts were interrupted by Liza, who asked about the book. "Well, it's only as hard as you make it, but to be easier on you, we will be breaking it down here in class for you."

Ace left the infirmary and decided to listen to Artorias and unfortunately not go hunting until it heals and the therapist as he was walking he felt like he had misplaced something he then noticed his machete wasn't in his sheath so he ran back to the place he had it last. As he arrived to the spot he left he began searching for it and found it overwhelmed by finding made the pain of his wound almost nonexistent since that machete was very sentimental to him as it was his family's machete . After finding his machete Ace decided to go to the therapist and have a long talk about his PTSD

Callum looked down awkwardly and waited for Ms Lisa to finish answering Liza. He looked back up at her. He hesitantly answered her question in his heavy Australian accent. "I was stuck in traffic..?.." He gave a weak attempt of a laugh and a fake smile before the smile dropped and his laugh stopped. He cleared his throat. "Just kidding. I sort of overslept...Sorry." Callum scratched his head and looked down again. He hated how everyone seemed to be glaring at him and it made a deep red color flood to his cheeks.

Lazuli finally reach the city and continued down two blocks before reaching a bookstore that stood next to some restaurants and a large Jo Anne's Fabrics store.

Emmeline would glance up as a tall shadow appeared over her. She stood up as their leader had overheard their conversation. "Yeah, we were just talking about Alex." She said, feeling a bit guilty for talking bad about him when she didn't know him at all. Her hands clasped together behind her back as she kicked the ground to fling up a patch of grass and dirt. "The garden could be better, but it managed to endure the pounding rain this mornin'. We're gonna need to go on a supply run for garden supplies. How are you and Liza by the way?" She asked the man who seemed tired from the dark rings underneath his eyes. It seemed that the community hasn't been doing too well. She could definitely speak for herself as she appeared disheveled and yawned every minute when she worked. Emmeline saw a blonde figure in the corner of her eye and glanced momentarily towards Hudson's direction, wondering what she was thinking as she sat on the lift's edge. "Well, I think I'm gonna take a little break after I clean up here a bit. If you need me, I'll be in the cafeteria." She would brightly smile at Jace and James before hopping towards the garden, her rain boots splashing on the puddles. Emmeline packed away the tools in the wheelbarrow and lifted the handles, grimacing as a few splinters dug into her fingers. This is what I get for not wearing gloves, she thought to herself as she pushed the cart in front of the shed. Emmeline tidied up things before she crossed the school yard to enter the back entrance of the building, noticing that the children were still in class. She did a full turn on her heels to make sure that no one was around before she dug out her portable cassette player. Putting the earplugs in her ears, Emmeline started to hum to the tune of her favorite song. Her soft hums transitioned to singing, her pure and clear voice like a shaft of warm sunlight from heaven. She had to admit that those singing lessons she learned online paid off. The echoes of her ethereal voice engulfed the silent cafeteria, her body slowly swaying as she sang the song of longing, the yearning for a love that she lost to the apocalypse.

Artorias spent some time working on his syringer, he was almost done with it, he just had to figure out a locking mechanism to keep the syringe inside the tube so it wouldnt fall out. "Meow.." Mew was getting hungry and thusly lazy. "You're right buddy, we need some brain food, come on, lets go grab a bite." Mew perked up at the thought of finally getting food, eagerly jumping into Artorias' quiver to carry him to the cafeteria. Artorias strapped on his quiver and made his way to the cafeteria, "Hmmm what shall I eat today, will it be the green mush? The white Mush? Or the Brown Mush?" "Mrow?" Mew purred quizzically. "I'm just kidding Mew, we both know we only eat the blue mush!" "Mrow!" Mew didnt liked being teased when it came to food, Artorias only laughed at his frustrated companion. He walked into the cafeteria to see that some of the others were already grabbing their meals, even one of the sailors just got done and went up to greet Artorias. "Ey! Artorias!" His Irish voice rang through the cafeteria as if someone dropped fine china into a shredder. "Hey Lance, how ya been? Anything interesting happenin with the guards?"

"Nope, the guards been boring, havent fired me AR in a while, but i suppose its for the best huh? Dont want a repeat of what happened with the others. And is that little Mew? My has he grown since we first brought him to the site!!"

Artorias laughed at his old friend, "Yes Mew has grown quite a bit, I remember when the Captain ordered for him to be stationed with us to boost morale, I remember all of y'all making fun of me for months for saying 'aww' at a tiny little kitten walking around the base hallways."

Lance laughed at the memory, "Aye, i member all that nonsense, but it was good, helped get our minds off the time line, not that it matters....Though im fairly sure the order came because of what happened with ya leg days before that..ya werent exactly in the best of moods after that, you were different on many levels. Almost as if we didnt even know ye, but that kitten is a life saver, bringing you back to us."

Artorias just looked down at his metallic prosthesis, "yes....I suppose, well I'll let you go Lance, I might have some goodies in the form of weapons for you and the guard soon."

With that Corporal Lance went back to his duties, and Artorias went and grabbed the usual breakfast meats for both him and Mew, finding a spot to sit and eating happily, with Mew standing on top of the table of course because Artorias refused to make him eat on the ground.

Lazuli searched through the bookstore for what sounded like good book titles. A few seemed to magically catch her eye: The Call of the Wild, Out of the Dust, and the Eragon series. She eyed them and stuff them into her backpack after reading samples from each, deciding they'd be good for the children to read. She zipped up her backpack and waked across the once lively street and into the fabrics store, opening her backpack and stuffing thick cloth in the hopes no one would care that it wasn't technically blankets. She looked around, grabbing some more fabric before leaving and entering a restaurant next door.

Lazuli gave a cautious sweep of the restaurant before turning her attention to the pantry that she knew most likely had plenty of table salt for Artorias. She rummaged through the spices and grabbed a ton of table salt along with some spices, figuring people back at the community would enjoy having something more to their meals. She stuffed them in her backpack before remembering that Callum had asked for her to get a Dragonball Z manga for him. She lazily jogged back to the bookstore and searched the manga section, unsurprised to see many titles with Naruto. After around ten minutes of searching, she finally came across a Dragonball Z manga with the title of Resurection F. "Cal shall love this, and be fairly satisfied, if not what they call hyped up." Lazuli gave off her strange laugh and stuffed the manga in her backpack as she started back for the school.

Both Artorias and Mew had finished their meals, "Aww man that was better than military rations ehh Mew?" "Mew," Mew was laying on the table, but he was fulfilled and didnt want to get up. "Yeah Mew lets go ahead and just hang here for a bit." He and Mew just sat at the table, Mew laying down like a potato, and Artorias just leaning back against the chair. It was at that moment singing came ringing through the cafeteria; Emmeline was walking through singing what ever it was that was playing from her head phones. Mew looked up and stared at her from across the cafeteria, "Mow?" Mew had never really heard singing before, aside from Artorias singing in the shower but it was always muffled from behind a closed door back at the project site. "Its just Emmeline Mew, dont worry nothing bad is happening," Artorias laid back once more, waiting for his furry companion to be ready to get moving once again.

@WhisperSweetNothings

Jace watched as Emmeline walked away and looked to the leader. "I'll get back to work now." he said standing from the grass and wiping off his pants. He pulled on his black gloves and grabbed the shovel, which was leaning against the supply shed, and began digging holes for a few new plants. He was going to get a head start on growing some root plants for when Winter came around. The garden was something he took great pride in, and he wanted nothing more than to expand it. Yes, it got tiring sometimes, but it was worth it. He had finished planting a few onions and decided to begin work on his new project; Apple trees. He knew it would take years before any progress was actually made, but it would be worth it. They'd have fresh apples, and the sooner he started planting, the sooner they would get here. He had a few rotten apples that the supply runners had brought him that he could use the seeds from, so now he just needed to find a good spot. He already knew planting beside the garden was a bit out of question because once the tree grew, it would produce shade that may slow the other plant's growth.

He decided that he would plant them near the gate, that would provide both scenery and produce.

(@Hollowed Kadaver)

Cal's face dropped after he saw how much he had to do by the end of class. He gave a sharp nod, even though the overwhelmingness of all the homework he had was making him feel awfully lazy. He wished he was a few years older so he could just work instead of do homework. He sighed as he forced his hand to grab a pencil, open the textbook, and painfully start working on the homework. He felt like utter crap and as if the list would never be finished even if he had an eternity to do everything.

Artorias smiles at seeing little hope, she had entered into the cafeteria a few minutes ago. She sat right across from him but he knew she wasn't here to see him, she was here for mew. Mew moved his head into her hand when she tried to per him, he was purring loudly. "Mew!" Mew loved getting attention from others, he would take what ever he could get honestly. "So hope, learn anything scientific in class today?" Artorias asked, eager to see if science was being taught.

After leaving the therapist, Ace decided to go to the cafeteria and grab a bite to eat. After grabbing his food ace sat down and started eating, the food wasn't bad but it also wasnt lobster it did have a faint taste of chicken. After enjoying his "chicken" ace decided to catch up on some sleep as he wasnt gonna do any thing for a while because of his hand. As he made to his room he laid on his bed which wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world but he was to tired to care and drifted into sleep awaiting another nightmare which was sure to come.

Spectre Quarters, 8:00 AM

The sound of beeping roused James. Opening his eyes, he flung a sock across the room, watching as it landed on Michael’s face. James watched as the man opened his eyes.

“Morning” James greeted him.

‘You suck.” Michael grumbled

“I know.” James smirked, rising up, racing to the shower, and locking the door before Michael could get there. A few minutes later, James exited, getting dressed in some civilian clothing that they had found within their first few days. Michael followed suit, and the two exited their room, bumping into Jaida.

Jadia rose earlier than Krista, and decided to leave her bunkmate to sleep in peace. Getting ready and dressing in civilian clothing, she exited to meet the two men walking out.

“Hello.” James spoke first.

“Greetings” Jadia replied.

“We are going to get something to eat, want to join us?”

“I suppose that would be ok.” With that, the three people went off to the cafeteria. The usual was acquired, something that you could only hope and assume was food, much to the annoyance to everyone.

September 10th, 2013, an unknown forest in Bulgaria

The moment of stillness in the night was interrupted by a hail of bullets. An operation to save to world was underway, and it wasn’t going well. The unit had been separated, which had led to Spectres 1, 2, and 4 engaged by heavy enemy forces. The three were on a hill and taking heavy fire. They were getting many kills, but the enemy still advanced on the peak.

“KEEP FIRING! COME ON MEN!!!” James screamed over the firing. After 30 minutes of holding the line, and enemy fighter popped up behind the team. He fired twice, hitting Spectre 4, instantly killing him. Spectre I double-tapped him down, and then everything went to black.

Modern Day, Spectre quarters

Krista woke to a weight on her body, covered in sweat. She had dreamed about it again, ever since they had told her to story of her brother’s last moments. Krista looked up at Terrence, scratching his head and giving him a nudge to get off. She saw that she was alone, and so, figuring they were out. She rose up, changed, and went towards, the armory, remembering she had guard duty. Krista put on her old uniform, figuring as she’d be guarding, embroidered with the Spectre patch. She forgoed her helmet, figuring it wouldn’t be necessary.

Krista flashed the guard a quick salute on her way into the Armory. Krista looked over the guns hanging up, her gaze falling on a familiar sight. She walked to her Heckler, taking it and stuffing some extra shells into a pouch on her belt. She kept her knife in a pocket on her belt, so it was always there. As she left the armory, she saluted to him once more, moving on once he returned it.

On the move around the complex, she remembered protocol for her morning patrol: move to the armory, grab a bite, continue around the structure. As usual, nothing was wrong, normal normal and more normal. Sometimes she thirsted for the old days of Spectre team’s adventures. Arriving at the cafeteria door, she stepped inside, making sure her gun had safety on and no rounds chambered. Krista heard a shout from the other side of the room.

“Krista, over here!” Jaida yelled.

Krista sat down at the table, getting food. All of them ate, then decided to, before Krista moved back out, the plans. “Alright, after you finish your patrol Krista, we are going to go off on a supply run, meet here at 1130 hours. Until then, the rest of us can go about our ways. Finishing the food, they all went out to do their own business.

(Note: I made Krista’s the longest because I have her character fully planned out, quite unlike the rest.)

The ruins of mankind weighed heavily upon Payton's eyes, no matter where he went or looked; there was only death, and destruction, the worst part was not knowing why, or how. Ironic, really, that in the modern age of humanity something like this could hit, something that made the plaque look like a common cold. The forest to his left was as dead as the world itself, the branches twisted and malicious, black with the strangled aura of carcasses and corpses littered within its very being.

Then there was the remnants of humanity. Fighting like dogs to survive over their fellow man, any past notion of society was hastily fleeting; and the world-state as it was seemed unrecoverable. It was odd, how little things mattered to people now. Nothing could be taken for granted, not any more. The street he walked along seemed to stretch on forever, a labyrinth of suffering. A reminder of what once was, of who once was. Their legacy now nothing more than a littered which would act as their grave. The litter being the very limbs of these people.

Payton turned left, only to notice the same sight as what he just observed. This time however, a figure in the distance stared back at him, blood dripping from its clothes. A knife in one hand, a cross in the other. With a reinvigorated sense of energy, Payton broke into a run towards the figure; "Hey! who are you?" A reply never came, the figure seemed to glide backwards, for every step Payton took the silhouette took three, before fading into nothing. A bang, the man turned on his heel immediately; only to notice the street now engulfed in burning black flames, and the cries of children and mothers filled his ears, the deaths of fathers as they tried in vain to defend their loved ones. He crumpled, holding his head tight, only to gaze up as thousands of undead lumbered through the flames towards him, the first one his brother, the two behind his mother and father...

Hopelessness overcame him, then what was once his beloved sibling wrapped it's rotting arms over his throat, before its teeth sunk down towards his heart.

Payton opened his eyes to the gleaming sun breaking through the blinds of is small room, the same dream as always... He must have slept all day... It was generous of the lawyer to let him. After all, he was one of the more recent admissions to the group. It was surprising they'd even let him in, truthfully; had they not, Payton would likely be nothing more than a series of red stains on a pavement somewhere... like the dream portrayed.

With a tired yawn, Payton stretched his arms out wide, before rubbing his eyes with fervor. He felt exhausted, still. But he had to pull his weight around here, they all did. Rising up to his feet with great difficulty, the man went about the usual morning routine... Or at least, a new usual morning routine. He brushed his teeth, very thoroughly washed his face, got dressed. It was nice to not have to sleep in the same clothes for days now, but out there... He had to be able to move in a second.

Satisfied with the morning, Payton grouchily made his way towards... someone, ideally he was trying to track the only person he actually knew the name of. James, the leader of this little community, in the end it was his call to allow Payton sanctuary here... Let alone permanent residence. Unfortunately, fate had another idea. And Payton had flashbacks to is first year in Secondary School, and how it took weeks for him to memorize the layout. This was a school, nothing changed. The boy found himself hopelessly lost, looking around different corridors. It looked quite suspicious really, like he was planning to rob them. Of course that was preposterous, yet he continued doing so; but in an attempt to find someone. A smarter person, would have went outside immediately. Too bad Payton was still groggy, exhausted, and a little confused. The thought never even crossed his mind.

After waking up ace realized that two hours has passed he got up and started walking around getting increasingly bored ace decided to go hunting anyway even if his hand felt like it was on fire everytime he touched it. So he headed back to his room and grabbed his mask and cloak putting it on but not his mask and then headed to grab his gun.Arriving at the armory seeing all the guns there always amazed him " ahh there you two are" he said after finding his m4 and revolver he headed out of the school hoping Artorias wouldn't see him so he took the back entrance out of the school and then started digging in the trash for his sled as he never took it inside because it smelled like a sewege dump thats when he found it the smell almost knocking him out he put on his gas mask "God i should really clean that fucking thing" he said while not trying to throw up in his mask. After making it out of sight of the school he headed for the woods knowing he had a couple of hous before sundown

I agree strongly with this.

James Stone ~

James smirked a bit and shook his head "we all have to respect each other around here, an unforgiving community, is a failing community" he reminded Jace and gave him a small nod when he said he'd return to work. James waved goodbye to Jace as he began making his way to the classroom to check up on the lessons.

The man leaned against the wall, noticing a nervous look on Lizas face as she stared at the book Lisa handed out. Lisa was a good and trusting teacher, so James wasn't too worried about her book choice. Liza was just naturally a nervous child too. He smiled a little bit when Lisa embarrassed the Cal fellow. But he didn't say anything.

Liza Stone ~

Liza didn't laugh or anything when Miss Lisa tried to embarrass Cal. Liza didn't really like making people upset, so when Lisa returned to the lesson she focused. The book was already hard to understand, but Lisa will help.

Like the try hard student, Liza wrote down the important parts of each chapter. She didn't want to lose herself. Liza knew they were supposed to read some chapters after class, but her dad was always too busy running things, so she wouldn't get anything done because he would be too busy to help her. A small sigh escaped Lizas lips as she narrowed her eyes at the book.

Hudson Avery ~

Hudson gave a little wave to Emmaline, but kept her seat on the platform. She noticed the new guy just aimlessly walking around, pretty much looking like the dead himself, and smirked "you look like a zombie, shall we put you outside the gate? You'd blend right in" the girl teased the tired guy "aren't you the new guard? Come up here" she offered and pointed to the ladder.

Hudson stood up and leaned against the wall, she knew James recruited a new guard, but she didn't know who it was. She just took a guess the new dude was the guard. Hudson crossed her arms and tilted her head a bit. She probably looked terrible too, but at least she had coffee to wake herself up.

@Lonelytaco @Archon (@Lordvader59 you could find a way to make Michael flirt with Hudson in a bit haha)

Hope continued to pet Mew and shrugged at Artorias's question. "Our teacher doesn't know much about science." she said a bit quietly. The truth is that her teacher didn't know much of anything. Her teacher had been a elderly construction worker before things went down. She had no teaching experience. Most of the time the kids just sat in class while she was out chattering with others. Hope leaned back on the lunch bench and stretched. She began to wonder when Jace would be taking his lunch break. She stood up and went through the lunch line, leaving with a tray full of peas and a cup of cold water. She hated peas, and even more she hated water. For now she sat down with Artorias and picked at her peas hoping to burn some time.

After what seemed like forever, Alex began to pull the van into a tiny vacant parking lot. Sam's eyes scanned the scene and immediately noticed the chain link fence that surrounded the exterior of the place. It was an animal shelter. "What's the point of going in here? They won't have anything here." she said, trying to hide the worry in her voice. The truth was, she didn't want to go in there and see all the dead animals. She knew she would, the windows to the place were still intact, and the door was not open the slightest bit. Alex opened the door and hopped out, "People in the community have been nagging me about animal feed. Figured we should try here." he said approaching the front door. Sam followed reluctantly. Alex tried the front door and it failed to open. He went to his truck and got his knife and began trying to pick the lock, luckily for him it was a simple one. He opened the door and Sam stepped in before him while he pulled his knife out the door knob. Sam noticed the smell of rot the moment she walked in and gagged. She covered her nose with her shirt collar and saw the dead body laying near a grey desk in the center of the room. She walked up to it and saw the dry blood on the person's head, and the gun laying near by. Alex walked up beside her and grabbed the gun, stuffing it in his pocket and handing Sam a bag. "Whatever you find, put it in here." he said and began searching the desk drawers. He found an abundance of dog tags with the place's name and address, as well as a few collars. He stuffed them in his bag and moved on to the very back of the room where there were 3 large cabinets. Sam followed and the two opened the cabinets. One was stuffed full of dog food and leashes. The other was full of cat toys and smaller bags of cat food. The last one was full of documents, something they would never make use of. Sam began getting all the toys and canned food out of the cats cabinet and smiled "Mew will love this." she said thinking of Artorias's cat. The two dragged the bags of hard food to a corner, they'd take those out to the van once they were done.

Alex had finished with the dog cabinet and now he was heading to one of the doors on the side of the main room's wall. "I'll check these rooms." he said knowing what was inside. He pushed in the first room and closed the door quickly so Sam wouldn't have to smell it. Inside the room, on either side of the door laid many separate cages. They were huge, made for outside and would fit up the 4 dogs each, but something was off about these cages. Each one had a large hole chewed through the side, and anything inside was now bone. He nearly puked seeing all the dead animals. He made his way down the line of cages and realized that they were all the same, spare about three. Once he made it to the end of the line he noticed a huddle of fur in the corner of the bare wall. He walked up curiously and immediately heard a sound coming from it. He pulled out his knife just in time for the dog to turn it's large head towards him and whimper. Alex's eyes grew wide. This was the survivor. Up and down the dog's fur were large cuts and it's muzzle was covered with blood. The dog struggled to stand and when it did, about 13 tiny little figures fell from it's body. "Fuck." he yelled covering his mouth. This dog was made up of only skin and bone, and even worse, it was nursing. "Sam!" he yelled kneeling down to the mother's size and rubbing his hands across her bony sides.

Jace nodded as Leader walked away. "See you." he replied. He continued to work on the garden.

Artorias sat there while he waited for hope, he didn't want to be rude and just up and leave. He thought about how the kids werent being taught science, 'Science is the back bone of knowledge of humanity; no science means no doctors, or veterinarians, no one to cure disease or to build machinery.' He sighed quietly, Mew noticed his dissapointment, "Mew?" Artorias looked up at his companion, "Its nothing Mew, go back to entertaining hope, we'll leave soon enough." 'I should probably come up with a list of clothes, I've been wearing the same damn outfit eversince I was moved to the project site.' Artorias' uniform consisted of his navy fatigues, a faded light navy camo lab coat, his combat harness over that, and obviusly his custom made fatigue pants because of his prothesis, but ever since the shark incident with his leg, he also wore shark mail under his clothes.

Just as Payton's poor soul was ready to slump down and give up helping at all, he heard a rather accurate taunt from above; the man had at least found someone, who'd invited him to join her. That to him was mission accomplished, although he had to think on the irony, he'd considered going back to bed when he couldn't find anybody, he still needed the sleep. Although the chances of him finding his room again were... unfavorable, to say the least.

As Payton began to ascend the ladder, he replied to the woman's earlier taunt "Aren't you worried I'm going to eat you? Not many people invite zombies to join them." Lifting himself atop the platform he eyed her carefully - or more accurately, her coffee. Then s brain woke itself up, she'd asked him a question. Rubbing his head awkwardly, Payton glanced around briefly for no actual reason. "I guess so?" Was his strangled response. The night before had been a blur, one the leader of the group took him in, all the man could possibly think of was a nights rest, he didn't remember a single word of the actual discussion. Although he didn't omit this information to his new friend, or acquaintance.

Of all the things to say to her, however, Payton just blurted out the only thing he wanted to truly know. "What's it like here?" For a moment, he mentally kicked himself. That was a pretty hastily asked question for someone who just arrived, and Payton was more familiar with being a spy than he'd like to admit. After all, the Secret Service may not have involved any sort of midday shoot-outs, or storming buildings. But the subterfuge factor was way up there. "I just mean... I -I don't mean like..." He stuttered over his words, before taking a breath. "I've just been on the road for so long, that I guess I'm curious as to what it's like to be apart of a group." Of course he was, he wanted it more than anything. But it was no lie, he was skeptical - doubtful even. How long would they last? Which one of them would die next? Who would he befriend, only to die next? All these questions flooded his mind, and all of a sudden the atmosphere felt much colder. His first real contact with a friendly human in months and all he could think of was the bad. Only now did he realize how much the months had changed him.
