Jewels of France (AnnaAxle+Ayezombie)

"You could say interesting, but I'm not much of a lady" she joked "more like an interesting little sister, if anything" she said staring into her soup.

Adeline didn't like to talk about herself, mostly because it ends up being a conversation about her past, a time she prefer not mention. But if it's for the girl infront of her right there, she didn't mind as much. "I'm really kind of poor, with a lot of debt that piled up over the years" she said slowly, as if searching through herself to find the answer. "And I live by myself, because of some sad thing I did a couple a years ago" she looked up from her food, into Carmilla's gazing eyes. "But it really doesn't bother me, honest" she said, not lying in the slightest. She actually adjusted to living on her own, eating vegetable scrap soups, and bread crust, and seeing that Carmilla ate basically the same thing made her feel kinda relieved

"You're strong." Was all Carmila said before shoving her mouth full of vegetable soup. After a few moments she thought of what to say back, not wanting to ask any uncomfortable questions. She had a feeling that if she did, Adeline might want to leave. She had to handle herself really well, since she was really only just getting to know this girl.

"There's not much to say about me other than who my family is. Other than that there's nothing really great about me." She shrugged, not having any clue how to describe herself other than who her parents were. That's how Carmilla had always done so.

"I don't think you're parents describe a thing about who you are!" Little snapped back, standing on her seat so that her line of sight completely a meets Carmilla's. "I know that you don't like the employees because you have too, right? Or that you don't do what you want just because people are watching" Adeline listed off, getting quite hot headed without knowing it.

After realizing what she did, making a dramatic scene in fancy restuaurant, she never felt more guilty. "I-" she paused, and saw a couple of staff looking at their table, whispering things about what just happened. "I'm sorry, you were nice enough to to take me here, I should go" she said blushing brighter than the hair on her head, leaving the Euro near her dish and walking past Carmilla

Carmilla immeditantly stood up and left their pay on the table, and walked out after Adeline.

She knew that Adeline was mortified, but Carm was struggling to hold back some form of a laugh. She'd never seen someone get so passionate. Everyone was always composed and silent.

"that was..." Carm paused, searching for the right words. "Absolutely terrific."

For a moment she glanced back, and the same waitress who hits on her on a regular basis was scowling at the half eaten food, hating that she was there with some girl.

"Are you okay?"

"You don't need to follow me" she replied sniffling. She was used to walking out on girls that didn't want her, but with Carmilla it was somehow sadder. The girls just kept her around out of sympathy, or because she looked cute, but they either asked to much about her past or nothing at all.

"Just because I act and look like a child doesn't mean I can't make my own desicion" it was pretty obvious that she was unintentionally venting on the girl, even though causing problems for her was the last thing she was trying to do. She tried walking faster, although with her height it wasn't much to marvel at, and Carmilla could easily catch up in an instant if she needed too.

"Do you not want me around?" She asked, stopping dead in her tracks. When Adeline huffed about making her own decisions, it hit her hard. she was terrified that it was because of how she had acted or how she had ordered or just something she had done wrong. Carmilla hated the fact that she had made the girl so upset, or that she was upset at all.

"I can go. If you want." she said, sadness hinting in her voice.

Hearing the second set of footsteps disappear, Adeline stopped walking aswell, but remained facing forward, to prevent herself from look Carmilla in the eyes.

"I left so that you wouldn't be sad" she sad, clenching her hand into a fist "I wanted you to be happy not to deal with me, why are you sad?" She asked her, feeling every emotion at once in the empty street. It seemed that even though Adeline stormed off into the uninhabited part of city, she still followed her all the way. "Why?" She asked completely confused

"I asked you to dinner didn't I?" she asked, not knowing how to convey her thoughts just right.

"I wouldn't have done that if I didn't actually want to spend time with you, and get to know you. I'm going to be sad that probably the most wholesome girl I've ever met left me at a dinner table upset. I dont want to see you upset."

Carmilla ran a hand through her hair, not knowing what else to say. She was a little angry that the girl was questioning her like that, but she understood why, at least she tried to as best she could.

Adeline was still taking deep breaths. She herself didn't know why she was angry. She used to people not coming after her when she left, but why would she feel mad if they did?

"I'm sorry" she said, muffled through the sleeves of her sweater that was covering her face "I'm really sorry"

Carmilla put her pride aside and just walked up to the girl, and wrapped her arms around her. She didn't know if this was something that happened often or not, but at least for this time she was going to be there for Adeline. It was easy to tell she'd been alone for a long time.

"It's alright. It's okay."

"I'm really, really sorry" she said, holding back a flood of tears "I'm never like this, I swear" she said, as if being hugged her more trusting to say things "I was just trying my best to make you happy, but you sounded generally sad back there and, and-" she could think of any of the right words, they just came at random intervals, through her clouded mind "I'm really sorry, Carmilla"

"Sh, It's alright. Just calm down."

Carmilla ran her finger's through Adelines hair, smoothing it out and holding her close. She wanted nothing more than to protect the girl as much as possible. And it felt quite natural when they were hugging, as she was so much taller.

"You know I won't let anything bad happen to you, right?"

"My mom said the same thing" Adeline spoke calmly, tears dry, as if she was numb to that thought.

"Don't be like her, please just be you Carmilla" she plead, hugging the girl even closer, eyes in rain again.

"I'm not your mom. I'm not." She said.

Carmilla held her for a little bit longer, before realizing how late it had gotten. The thought creeping up in her mind interrupted the moment of bliss, or at least of calm in a wake of excitement.

"It's late, me chere." She whispered, still stroking her hair.

The little red head looked up to her hugger, then up a bit more to see that the Paris sky has gotten dark. She calmed down enough to be able to process words, so she tried to do Carmilla a favor. "I can... I can make you vegetable soup at my house" she blurted out, trying to make up for everything that happened. "I could use my savings to get better ingredients too, and maybe we can get something to drink and..." She was getting excited ".. Could we have another date, at my house?"

Carmilla smiled, and nodded.

"Ofcourse, anything you want, cupcake. I can get the ingredients, I don't want you spending your savings on me. Okay?" She said the last part firmly, not wanting her to put up any sort of a fight. Carmilla didn't want Adeline to be spending a single cent on her, just her company was more than enough.

"I think I'll be able to buy enough for two people with this money" she said taking out few bus tokens, a Canadian dollar that she found on the street, and the extra euro Carmilla gave her. "I have some more back home" she said embarrassed. She already ruined one date, and she didn't intend to mess up another one, even if it meant eating 2 meals a day for the next month.
