[div class=box2] [div class=title]olivia hamilton[/div] [div class=content][div class=scroll] Olivia's heart was certainly warmed to see father and daughter interacting the way that they did. She nodded when Jun informed her that he'd send a message before leaving, so she'd be aware. She could sense that he was a little uneasy about leaving his daughter so she tried to reassure him yet again. [div class=tag1]"You'll be back home to her before you know it,"[/div] she told him with a warm smile, waving goodbye to him along with So-Min. Not long after that, it was just the two of them.

[div class=tag1]"Let's get some food in you, hmm?"[/div] Since the food was prepared, there wasn't much Olivia needed to do other than ensure that So-Min ate it, which she did happily, all while babbling. Olivia did her best to entertain the gibberish by responding with positive reactions and occasionally encouraging her to continue babbling. Amid it all, she was glad that she didn't make a fuss during eating since she knew several kids that did.

Once So-Min finished eating, Olivia picked her up and grabbed the cream for her nappy rash along the way to the changing room. She could tell there was some discomfort in the way So-Min made a face and her tone slightly changed, but she seemed soothed once she was changed and fresh. Olivia could only imagine that it must have been worse before this but it was good that the rash was getting better at least.

Wanting to properly tire her out, Liv decided to spend some time painting, which was something they both often did together at daycare. Plus, painting was one of Liv's favourite pastimes. Not that anyone besides her family knew about it, of course. All the art hung up in her home and theirs looked like they were bought at auctions but nope, they'd just been Olivia's work in her free time. Many of them had been done after she lost her child, as a way to cope and express her emotions, and despite reminding her of that troubling time, she had to admit that it was some of her best work yet.

Liv did her best to ensure that they didn't make too much of a mess during painting โ€” it was impossible to keep So-Min from getting paint on her hands but Liv didn't want the paint to stain any of the furniture so she took necessary precautions to keep the environment clean and left the paintings she made on the dining table to dry while she cleaned So-Min up and then ultimately took her to the master bedroom for nap time. Liv spotted a few yawns that were the telltale sign of a nap coming along and she knew Jun would be back soon too, even though she had no idea how much time had passed, having been preoccupied.

Olivia let So-Min down on her side of the bed, as instructed. Though she didn't seem to have much trouble, Olivia decided to make things comfortable for her anyway by grabbing one of the pieces of clothing from the drawer that Jun had pointed out to her. She recognised immediately that it was a woman's top, which meant it was So-Min's mothers clothes, but it still begged the question as to where she was. Putting a pin in the question for now, Liv just settled down beside So-Min to help her fall asleep, occasionally humming a small lullaby.

With such a good setting, Liv felt like she'd doze off as well, but she kept herself from doing so till So-Min was fast asleep. Once she was sure that the baby wouldn't wake, Liv slowly slipped out of the room, deciding to clean up the paint supplies while So-Min slept. [/div][/div] [div class=side2][div class=top]YEON JUN-SEOK.[/div] [div class=scrollbox][div class="scroll"]It had been a ratherโ€ฆ interesting day.

As he sat at his desk at work, writing the various papers and working on his computer, it came to a surprise to even himself that he discovered all his work had been complete within the two hours he had set out for himself. But that wasnโ€™t the biggest surprise of all; the grand surprise was that not once did he look at his phone. Not once did he think about texting Olivia to see how So-Min was going. And, if he was being completely honest, not once did he doubt that So-Min was in capable hands.

During his drive to work this afternoon, he had a fairly deep and logical talk to himself. He had told himself that Olivia was a very reliable person. That So-Min adored her. That from the way she spoke to not only him but to So-Min, he knew that she didnโ€™t have any foul intentions. She didnโ€™t seem like a two-faced person or someone he would have to keep an eye out on. To be frank, she was perfect. Perfect as in perfect for this whole situation. For babysitting and whatnot, that is. So, as he had sat down at his desk to work today, he didnโ€™t feel as much anxiety about So-Min. He was actually able to focus on his work.

Leaning back in his chair and releasing a satisfied sigh, he drew out his phone. There were no message or phone calls โ€“ that was always a good sign, right? Meant So-Min didnโ€™t need to be rushed to the hospital or anything. Quickly opening up his phone, he sent a message to Olivia that just briefly stated that he was going to pack up and lock up here and that he will be home within half an hour. Rightโ€ฆ Soโ€ฆ I suppose it was home time then. It felt so surreal that he was up to date with everything. Not only that but that So-Min was at home, safe and sound. She had her lunch, nappy changed and now most likely sound asleep.

True to his word, Jun packed everything away and took hold of his laptop bag before locking up his office. Once in the car, he managed to get back to the house within twenty minutes of leaving the office. Pulling into his drivewayโ€ฆ oh man, it was still just so surreal to him. Even as he walked up to the door, he made sure to be as quiet as possible considering he didnโ€™t want to wake up his daughter if she was asleep. Once inside, he quietly slipped off his shoes and placed them upon the shoe rack before placing on his slippers. Finally, he hooked his laptop bag on the coat rack and made his way from the sunroom into the main living area.

Slowly walking into the area, he could see Olivia at the table; head down and concentrating on painting. He was assuming that So-Min was asleep โ€“ well, he sure as hell hoped she was. โ€œHey,โ€ he said to her in a soft voice, not wanting to be too loud in case So-Min was in fact sleeping. He pointed towards his bedroom. โ€œIs she asleep?โ€ There was a part of him that wanted to double-check to make sure that his daughter was still alive and breathing. But knowing the rascal child, she would probably wake up as soon as he stepped into the room. โ€œI hope she wasnโ€™t too much of a hassle for you todayโ€ he added, placing his hands into his pants pockets. [div class=box2] [div class=title]olivia hamilton[/div] [div class=content][div class=scroll] [div class=tag1]"Yeah I'll be home soon, so I'll call you when I leave."[/div] Olivia was on the phone speaking to her brother. He'd called to find out what time he needed to come over for dinner, since he needed some prep time to cook. It was still really early though so Liv wasn't worried about it running too late, especially since she got the text from Jun a while ago, saying that he was preparing to leave work.

At the moment, she balanced the phone between her ear and her shoulder while she worked on a painting. Olivia had meant to clean up the paints while So-Min was sleeping, but before she got around to it, the paints almost called to her. She couldn't help herself from sitting down at the table and beginning something simple. It was just the beach, one she visited a week ago with Ezra since he was more familiar with this place than she currently was. It'd take her a while but she'd soon learn the roads and where everything was.

Olivia had just about finished adding the white of the sea foam when she heard the main door opening. Looking behind her to get a look, she confirmed that it was Jun, and then spoke into the phone to interrupt Ezra as he went on about ensuring that she bought all the ingredients that he asked her to buy. [div class=tag1]"Hey, I've gotta go, but I'll call you when I'm home, okay?"[/div] After exchanging goodbyes, Olivia hung up as Jun entered the room.

[div class=tag1]"Hey,"[/div] Olivia greeted him with a smile and then nodded as he pointed to the bedroom.[div class=tag1] "Yeah, fast asleep. It was no hassle though, don't worry about it. We had fun,"[/div] she told him, standing up and walking to the other side of the table to pick up the finger painting that So-Min had made in his absence. [div class=tag1]"She made this for you,"[/div] Olivia handed it over to him. Once again, blue seemed to be the dominating colour, and funnily enough, it was the dominating colour in Liv's painting too, since she was portraying the ocean.

[div class=tag1]"She ate all her food, and I used the cream like you said."[/div] Olivia just felt he would be more relaxed and at ease if he knew through verbal confirmation that she'd done all the things he'd asked of her, and that everything had gone along without a hitch while he was gone. He had nothing to worry about. [/div][/div] [/div] [div class=box3] [div class=icon][/div] [div class=details][div class=scroll2] [div class=tag2]location[/div] Jun's house.

[/div][/div] [div class=side2][div class=top]YEON JUN-SEOK.[/div] [div class=scrollbox][div class="scroll"]Jun nodded silently as Olivia told him that So-Min fell asleep without any hassles and not to worry about it as they had fun. Well, that was good to hear. He looked over at the clock to see the time, mentally telling himself that it was probably around about the time that So-Min would be waking up. If she slept for anything past two in the afternoon, she would generally be bouncing off the walls until eleven at night. However, his eyes were torn away from the clock as he heard Oliviaโ€™s voice once more. So-Min made him something?

As the piece of paper came in contact with his hands, he gently looked down at the masterpiece that his daughter had created. Of course, he was biased. But he thought it was the most beautiful art piece he had ever laid eyes on. He could see that So-Min had a preference to blue which made him smile warmly. So-Jinโ€™s favourite colour had been blue. But before he could dive into a deep ocean of nostalgia, he heard Oliviaโ€™s voice once more causing him to bring his attention to the female before him.

Once again, as she began to list off the things that they had done, Jun nodded. โ€œThank you,โ€ he said, placing the piece of paper upon the table once more. โ€œI really appreciate itโ€ฆ Itโ€™s beenโ€ฆ hard trying to find a baby-sitter. Well, a baby-sitter who is actually capable of doing their job and So-Min wonโ€™t scream like sheโ€™s being murdered while around them.โ€

And just like that, it was almost like she had supersonic hearing. Because the six-month-old began to let out a soft stirring cry; one that could only be translated to Iโ€™ve just woken up and no one is here. โ€œIโ€™ll get herโ€ Jun said to Olivia before making his way towards his bedroom. As he approached So-Min, the baby saw her father and automatically reached out for him. And it was then that the first thing he noticed was that So-Min had her motherโ€™s shirt in her grasp.

He picked up the child, cooing at her softly and holding her tight as he brought her out into the main living area. โ€œSo-Min-ah,โ€ he said softly to the little girl in his arms as the child re-adjusted herself to the light of the room. โ€œOlivia is still here. Should we have something for afternoon tea?โ€ He placed his hand upon the shirt that So-Min was holding lifting it up lightly so the child could see โ€œWe need to put Ummaโ€™s shirt away though. We donโ€™t want it to get dirty otherwise it wonโ€™t smell like Umma anymoreโ€

Oh, So-Min was having none of that.

She whined, pulling the shirt closer to her. โ€œOkay, five minutes. After five minutes, we put Ummaโ€™s shirt back into the bedroomโ€ he said to his daughter. He decided very early on that he was going to talk to So-Min like he would talk to anyone else. He wasnโ€™t going to dumb anything down for his child but rather fully explain it all. โ€œAppa is going to get changed from his work clothes. So Iโ€™m going to put you into your chair, okay?โ€ he told the girl, bringing her over to her high chair and preparing to lower her into it.

Once again, nope. She wasnโ€™t having it.

So-Min clung to Junโ€™s shirt as he attempted to place her down. So-Minโ€ฆ he internally grumbled to himself before looking over at Olivia. โ€œDo you think you might be able to take her from me just while I go get changed out of my work clothes?โ€ he asked her. [div class=box2] [div class=title]olivia hamilton[/div] [div class=content][div class=scroll] Olivia nodded when Jun thanked her. "Of course," she told him, waving her hand a little dismissively. [div class=tag1]"I'm happy to help. And I suppose it's a good thing So-Min and I have gotten along during daycare."[/div] The same couldn't be said for So-Min's relationships with the other teachers. It was a mystery to her, but she wasn't complaining. SoMin was an absolute joy to be around... when she wasn't screaming her head off. But every baby had their tantrums. Olivia was used to a certain degree of screaming but she usually never got it in So-Min's presence.

Olivia was about to say something else when she heard the child beginning to stir in the next room. Still standing, Liv attempted to go get her since she figured Jun was probably tired from work, but he jumped in anyway, heading into the bedroom to comfort his waking daughter.

Olivia waited outside a little awkwardly. There was something on her mind that she wanted to ask, but she wasn't sure if she should or not. It certainly wasn't any of her business but at the same time... could you really blame her for being curious?

Jun soon came back out with So-Min, and she was still clutching the shirt that she assumed belonged to her mother. Though Liv couldn't understand Korean, she could gather what was happening by just looking on. So-Min seemed reluctant to let go of her mother's shirt, and she didn't want to sit down alone either. She'd just woken up, and likely noticed nobody had been around her when that happened, so if Olivia had to take a guess, she'd say that So-Min was feeling just a tad bit insecure at the moment.

She was reaching forward to offer her help well before Jun asked, so she happily took So-Min into her arms while Jun headed off to change, gently cooing and bouncing to improve her mood. Olivia kept her thoughts to herself till Jun came back out, changed out of his work clothes. She'd be dismissed soon and she had to head home so she could tell Ezra when to come over for dinner, but that one thing was eating away at her so she decided to just come right out with it.

[div class=tag1]"Forgive me for asking,"[/div] Olivia began, continuing to gently bounce So-Min in her arms. [div class=tag1]"But is So-Min's mother around?"[/div] As soon as she asked it, she wondered if she should have worded it differently, and she tried to make up for it with some followup commentary. [div class=tag1]"I just, I saw the pictures and I just wondered. You don't have to answer me,"[/div] she let out a nervous chuckle and averted her gaze. She was a daycare educator and a babysitter only. They weren't on the right terms for her to begin poking into his personal life. [/div][/div] [div class=side2][div class=top]YEON JUN-SEOK.[/div] [div class=scrollbox][div class="scroll"]He thanked Olivia as he passed So-Min over to her. Well, So-Min practically leapt from his arms to have a cuddle with the educator. At least she was happy, was all he could keep telling himself. And that was the main thing, right? His daughterโ€™s happiness? A soft smile came to his face as he watched for a moment as Olivia and So-Min interacted with one and another. Right. Time to get changed.

Jun excused himself from the room before heading into his own bedroom, closing the door after himself. He was quick to get changed from his work attire into something a bit comfier. After all, he was home and was ready to spend some time with So-Min. They might go a walk later down to the park, or maybe have some playtime on the mat. Once he changed into a pair of black track pants and a comfy grey jumper, he made his way out into the main living area once again.

He was about to make his way over to pick So-Min up from Oliviaโ€™s grasps to give the poor girl a break. He was also about to ask her for her bank details so he could do a quick internet banking transfer because he forgot to get cash out. He was also about to announce to the girl that he was all good now and she could go home. But something stopped him in his tracks. It was a question Olivia had for him. Granted, she was probably very curious. But it was so odd to finally hear it for the first time. He hadnโ€™t expected to hear it so soon either.

Licking his lips slightly as he placed his hands into the pockets of the jumper, his eyes turned to look at a nearby picture frame next to the television. She was right though. There were pictures around the house with So-Jin in it. He couldnโ€™t deny that she had once existed. And plus, he had been bringing So-Min to daycare for over a month now. It was only him on the enrolment forms and he was the only one to pick her up or drop her off. So, of course, it would make sense that someone would become curious.

Slowly, he brought his attention back to Olivia. โ€œSo-Minโ€™s Ummaโ€ฆ uhโ€ฆโ€ he didnโ€™t know how to start. Well, he could just be plain and simple about it and say that she was dead? Just say those words right out. But for some reason, he was struggling to say it. His mouth hung slightly as he tried to figure out the correct words. But there was nothing there. Releasing an exhaled sigh, he slowly moved towards the table and took a seat next to Olivia, turning it slightly so he was facing his daughter and the girl.

So-Min saw Jun and automatically reached a hand towards him, in which he pulled a hand out of his pocket and took hold of his daughterโ€™s hand gently. He smiled softly at So-Min for a moment, watching as the baby was happy to just be in the arms of her educator and waving her Appaโ€™s finger back and forth with her own hands. โ€œSo-Minโ€™s Ummaโ€ฆ isnโ€™t with us anymoreโ€ฆโ€ he said in a soft voice, his eyes focusing on his child as he spoke so quietly โ€œSheโ€ฆ passed away while giving birth to So-Minโ€ฆโ€

He could feel the sad tension in the air as soon as he saw it. No. He wasnโ€™t going to cry. He wasnโ€™t allowed to cry. So, instead, he cleared his throat gently before looking from So-Min to Olivia. โ€œIf you couldโ€ฆ just keep that between usโ€ฆ And not tell anyone at the centre, Iโ€™d really appreciate itโ€ he requested to her. Because the last thing he wanted was to walk into the centre with a sea of eyes that screamed aww, the poor thing. [div class=container] [div class=box1]
[div class=box2] [div class=title]olivia hamilton[/div] [div class=content][div class=scroll] Olivia might have said something to keep Jun from even thinking about answering because this was none of her business and he should feel no obligation to share any details about his personal life with her. Before she could think to make a decision on that though, he took the seat beside her and faced her. His initial reluctance to say anything outright told her plainly what the situation might be and she felt even worse for asking.

Her guesses were confirmed by Jun's faltering words. It was hard for him to say, and she could understand that more than anyone. She felt a pang in her chest just hearing the words, even if she'd put two and two together before he actually said anything. The pauses, his expression, it was all clear on his face that the memory was likely still fresh in his mind, and still a painful reminder. He was a single dad. She could only imagine the struggle, but she was happy that father and daughter had a strong bond, despite everything.

[div class=tag1]"I'm sorry to hear that,"[/div] Olivia told him softly, watching as So-Min reached a hand out to her father, as if in an attempt to try and comfort him. She knew that would likely be the only thing to work since they both had shared pain. They both lost someone important.

[div class=tag1]"Oh, yeah, of course,"[/div] Olivia answered him immediately when he asked her not to share this information with anyone else. [div class=tag1]"It never crossed my mind. It's not my information to share."[/div] It wasn't any of her business, but he'd still trusted her with the information for some reason. Olivia couldn't imagine doing the same about her own past. She knew it would be better if she talked to someone about it, but nobody outside her immediate family knew about what she went through because she just couldn't find it in her to tell anyone. And it had been two years. Jun had been living with this for six months.

This wasn't really a good topic for her to get into right now, because all it did was serve as a reminder for what she'd gone through. As much as she tried to convince herself that she was past it and that she'd recovered, she knew she could never really fully recover from something like that.

Feeling the swelling in her throat, which was a clear indication of what was to come, Olivia decided it would be best for her to leave. [div class=tag1]"Thank you for trusting me with that,"[/div] Olivia felt like she should explain to him that it meant something to her, the fact that he'd been willing to be upfront instead of refusing to tell her, which he had every right to do. [div class=tag1]"I really appreciate it. And I'm sorry, again. I shouldn't have poked my nose in. For what it's worth... I know how you feel." [/div]

It may not be the exact same scenario, but it was a pain that Olivia would never be able to let go of, just like Jun probably wouldn't either.

Slowly, she handed So-Min over to Jun, because she needed to get going, for more reasons than just one anymore. Olivia offered Jun a kind smile, though it wasn't as genuine as her usual ones. It was a little halfhearted. [div class=tag1]"I should probably get going,"[/div] she slowly rose from the chair and smoothed out her shirt once Jun took his daughter in his arms. She wasn't too worried about the payment information. [div class=tag1]"My brother's coming over for dinner so I need to get there before he does. We can work out the specifics later?"[/div] It didn't seem like the type of time to discuss finances, given the weight of their previous conversation. [/div][/div] [div class=side2][div class=top]YEON JUN-SEOK.[/div] [div class=scrollbox][div class="scroll"]As the girl apologized so โ€˜poking her nose inโ€™, Jun gave her a half-hearted smile while shaking his head. โ€œItโ€™s okayโ€ he said in a quiet voice before she continued on. In all honesty, it didnโ€™t feel like she had poked her nose into anything. She was caring for So-Min at daycare and now as a babysitter. Had he been in her shoes, he probably would want to know everything about the childโ€™s life to ensure the top quality care. In fact, he wondered now if Olivia would respond to So-Minโ€™s cries or want for attention at daycare any differently than what she did now.

Seeing Olivia beginning to shift So-Min, Jun held his hands out to take his daughter from her with ease. Of course, So-Min had to go the baby route and straight away began to play with the string of his jumper, pulling on them tightly. Geeze, was she trying to choke him. He was quick to move them from her grasp and tuck them into his jumper, away from her devilish hands. And then Olivia spoke, saying she should head off; his attention snapped from So-Min to the woman before him as she stood. For some odd reason, when Olivia announced that she needed to get going, the first thought that came into Junโ€™s mind was no, stay. He wasnโ€™t sure why. Had it been because it had been somewhat nice to let someone in? Since his wifeโ€™s death, it felt like there was no one to really justโ€ฆ talk to. He went back to Korea to bring her ashes back to her family and they grieved together. But everything was on the go; he was meeting family members, looking after a newborn, and trying to arrange a funeral for his wife. And then when he returned back to Australia, the only people he could talk to were his work colleagues. But by then, it seemed as if people were told to hold their tongue. To not mention anything about So-Jin as it might upset Jun.

For once, it had been nice to finally tell someone that his wife had died giving birth to So-Min for some odd reason. Was this the beginning of processing his emotions? The emotions that he kept buried keep inside? The ones he had been too busy to deal with while he was caring for So-Min and arranging to say goodbye to the love of his life? For onceโ€ฆ it would just be nice to sit down with someone and talk about what So-Jin was like. How she would think about So-Min had she met her daughter. How she wouldโ€™ve reacted to the plot twists in her favourite k-dramas had she been alive long enough to see the endings.

But that person wasnโ€™t Olivia. That person wasnโ€™t anyone. Because no one else should be burdened with the feelings of sadness and loss that he felt. Thatโ€™s what he thought, at least.

And so, he simply nodded to Oliviaโ€™s request to discuss finances another time. โ€œIโ€™ll send you a message later about it.โ€ he responded before slowly standing to his full height with his daughter in his arms. โ€œCome on, So-Min-ah. Weโ€™ll say goodbye to Olivia at the door, hmmh?โ€ he suggested to his daughter in Korean before looking back at Olivia, reverting to English. โ€œWeโ€™ll walk you out so So-Min can wave goodbyeโ€ he translated, giving a soft smirk. chapter three:
sob fest 2020

olivia hamilton
After saying goodbye to both Jun and So-Min, Olivia walked home. She took a little longer going back than she did when she arrived at Jun's place to begin with, partly because her mind was a little occupied. She'd learned something huge about Jun, something she supposed she shouldn't have pried about in the first place but he'd still trusted her with the information and while that meant a lot to her, it also just made her feel a pang of guilt in her chest.

Regardless, once she got home, Ezra dropped by just half an hour later and some quality time spent with her brother did well to improve her mood and help her get over the momentary slump she fell into. The last thing she wanted was to go back to spending days in bed and not wanting to leave the house. While she knew it wouldn't become that drastic that fast, those periods were likely to come soon enough, unfortunately. It was just a matter of time, but Olivia was at least doing better with handling it now than she had been years ago.

The weekend flew by and soon it was back to work. Monday morning had Olivia waking up early as usual, getting dressed for the day and heading into work with a smile on her face. She was easily one of those people who enjoyed her job. She got to work around children, teach them new things and simultaneously learn new things at the same time. Each day was a wonder, and each day brought something different to the table.

Olivia was admittedly a little anxious to be seeing Jun and So-Min again after the adventures in babysitting. The kind of secret that Jun had divulged was something you'd tell a friend, not the woman who was taking care of your child when you were at work, but now that Olivia knew, she felt a whole new level of compassion, and friendliness. Jun was a nice person and managing as a single dad, and So-Min was an absolute joy to be around.

While she waited for them to drop by, Olivia remained indoors, seeing to the other children that were dropped off and having a few words with some of the other parents about how the weekend went. Idle chit chat and nothing important, but something Olivia usually couldn't refrain from since she was generally a chatty person.

The weekend was finally over and it was time to get back into the work routine.

Jun-Seok found himself lying in bed, staring up at the ceiling, feeling himself go in and out of a daze. So-Min had been up and down at all different hours of the night, crying because of her nappy rash. He was still waiting on his Ummaโ€™s parcel to arrive, so, for now, he was just using Australian brand cream. It seemed to keep the rash at bay for a couple of hours. But every time she made a bowel movement, it seemed to make it aggressive again. He had probably had four hours of sleep last night and was wondering if he should just call in sick to work. However, he had to remind himself that if he did, and he stayed home with So-Min, heโ€™d still have to pay for the daycare fee for the dayโ€ฆ and he wouldnโ€™t get any money for taking a sick day as he didnโ€™t have any sick leave as of yet.

Releasing a soft sigh, Jun turned his head to look at his daughter who slept so perfectly, co-sleeping next to him, surrounded by a couple of pillows. He watched as her chest raised and fell again and her cheeks puffed up as she slept so perfectly. Oddly enough, she was usually up around this time. I suppose it was going to be out of whack considering she had been up and down during the night. And then an idea hit him.

I wonder if I couldโ€ฆ maybeโ€ฆ have a wank? He thought to himself, raising a brow and poking his lower lip slightly. Hey, it had been well over six months. He needed some sort of release, didnโ€™t he? And having a kid while youโ€™re a single parent isnโ€™t the most helpful or most ideal situation. So-Min was so fast asleep that maybe โ€“ just maybe โ€“ his plan would work out. He could go to the toilet, get rid of six months worth of blue balls, and start getting his day ready?

Jun had just confirmed it with his mind as he slowly began to rise from the bed. However, his plan would see the light of day. Because as soon as he moved, he heard the familiar cry of So-Min next to him. He wanted to roll his eyes so far back he could see his spine. Of course, he loved his daughter. With all of his heart. But after hardly any sleep and almost having probably the best morning he was planning on having in six months being completely squashed in front of himโ€ฆ wellโ€ฆ Youโ€™d be annoyed too, right?

And so, their routine continued on.

Crying, nappy change and cream, breakfast together, more crying, another nappy change and cream, So-Min getting dressed and finally, Jun getting dressed. Once he placed the nappy cream into So-Minโ€™s daycare bag, they were in the car and on their way to the daycare centre. 7:45am โ€“ the same time every day. It gave Jun 45 minutes to drop So-Min off and head to his office which was only ten minutes away. Butโ€ฆ Knowing So-Minโ€ฆ It was going to take that twenty-five minutes or so to get her to go to an educator. So, they arrived at the centre at their normal time. Even as he took her out of the car, the tears were beginning. He slung her nappy bag over his shoulder and held her close, cooing at the girl and internally praying that Olivia would be there for an early shift; overwise drop off was going to be an absolute nightmare today.

And praise Jesus! As he entered the centre, he could see Olivia through the window in the hallway. "See, So-Min-ah," he hummed to the baby, and turning her direction so she could see her educator through the window. "Olivia is here today." Like clockwork, the baby's cry automatically stopped as soon as she saw the educator. Geez, where was Olivia when he needed someone else to comfort So-Min at two in the morning? He made his way into the Nursery room, subtly bowing his head at Olivia to greet her from afar as he placed So-Min's bag into her allocated bag spot. All the while, he felt like he was wrestling a tiger who was just trying to get out of his grasps and into Olivia's arms. Once the bag was away, he made his way up towards the educator - to which So-Min practically leapt from his arms into her arms.

"She's in a bit of a mood," he warned Olivia, placing his hand upon So-Min's back, rubbing it as she got herself comfortable in Olivia's arms. He released a soft sigh, watching with tired, dark eyes as his daughter nuzzle her face into the crook of her educator's neck "She's only had... maybe four hours sleep. It's her teeth. She still has a really bad nappy rash too so... if it gets worse, call my mobile and I'll come and pick her up."

Olivia had been in the midst of speaking to one of the parents when she noticed Jun stepping into the room, with So-Min in his arms. Not able to properly greet him since she was occupied, she offered him a smile from across the room. She was finished speaking by the time Jun made his way over, and Olivia this time turned to offer a smile to So-Min who reached out to her to be carried.

Olivia happily held her close, bouncing her a little but shifting her attention to Jun as he spoke, warning her of the child's mood. "Why's that?" Jun soon explained that it was because she hadn't had much sleep and the rash seemed to be persisting. Maybe it was better than before but for as long as it remained, and till it completely disappeared, Olivia knew that So-Min would continue to be in pain.

"Of course." Olivia nodded almost immediately when Jun informed her to call him, should things get worse. Olivia would have done that regardless since as the father, he needed to know, and Olivia knew that So-Min might fare better with her father around, despite seeming to enjoy Olivia's company. But sometimes the company just didn't matter โ€” if a child wasn't comfortable or was in pain, nothing would stop them from complaining about it.

"We'll see you later today then," Olivia said, turning a little for So-Min to face Jun better since she currently had her face nuzzled into the crook of Liv's neck. "Say bye to Appa," Olivia did the baby talk again, since she knew So-Min seemed amused by it, and it usually worked too. She lifted one of her hands to give Jun a small wave and they both watched for him to leave before Olivia took So-Min further into the room to begin the day.

It wasn't much longer into the day that Olivia began to realise that So-Min was clearly uncomfortable. Initial attempts to calm her had worked, but eventually even those began to fail. So-Min wasn't screaming like she usually did at drop off, but there were tears and that was enough for Olivia to realise that she was in pain, and there wasn't much Olivia could do to alleviate it.

Remembering what Jun said, Olivia rang him up to inform him about the situation. She knew it wasn't too serious yet, but she'd rather not wait for it to get to that point. She was cautious around children. There was no room for slacking off and just hoping things would get better without any action.

Even though he was sitting at work and looking like he was busy, Jun really wasnโ€™t. His mind was far too preoccupied on his daughter. Luckily, he had no patients today. It was one of his research days which meant that there was just a lot of paperwork to fill out and things to organise for the next board meeting he would have to attend to present his recent findings and cases. But as he stared at the computer screen, his mind kept on drifting back to when he dropped So-Min off at the daycare centre.

He was fully confident that Olivia could care for So-Min. He had no doubt in his mind. But the other carers? What if Olivia went on her lunch break or had to leave the room for something? So-Min would be devastated! Especially in the foul mood she had been yesterday. And what if the other carers didnโ€™t apply cream while she was getting her nappy changed? What if it got worse?

Junโ€™s brow only furrowed more as he thought about So-Min. Maybe he should just go and pick her up? Finish the rest of his work at home? Maybe that way she would be able to be in the peace and comfort of their own house? Noโ€ฆ No, he needed to listen to his Ummaโ€™s words. She told him that it was time to start trusting other people with So-Min. To share the weight of caring for her.

Just as he decided no, Iโ€™m not going to call, he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. What type of black magic was this? He was quick to take it out and look down to see that it was a centre calling. Oh boy, did he answer that phone within the first few rings. Jun could feel his stomach dropping as he answered it, knowing that they were going to say that something was wrong with So-Min. Thankfully, it had been Olivia to call him. And thankfully, she was calling to inform that So-Min wasnโ€™t calming. It helped him to make his final choice โ€“ he would be picking her up.

Thanking the girl on the phone, he announced that he would be there soon. So, within twenty minutes, he had managed to grab all the items he needed to work from home, told his co-workers that he would have to pick up So-Min because she wasnโ€™t well, and was on his way to the daycare centre. He took no time to stall, especially as it was drawing closer to lunchtime. He knew that not only would So-Min be uncomfortable with her nappy rash, but she would also be hungry (if she hadnโ€™t of had anything to eat for lunch yet), and no doubt starting to get very tired (that child was a demon when she was sleepy).

He swiftly entered the centre with hurried steps as he made his way to the Nursery room. Slowly he opened the door (not wanting to wake up any sleeping children who may be inside or disturbing the peace), and spotted Olivia with So-Min. Okay. He could grab So-Minโ€™s stuff first before attempting to bring the child home. Heck, he should probably change her nappy as well before he left. So, he automatically made his way over to her bag and slung it over his shoulders. Once upon his shoulders, he began to slowly and quietly make his way over to Olivia and So-Min.

โ€œIs she okay?โ€ he asked Olivia cautiously. Of course, So-Min wasnโ€™t okay โ€“ she had a nappy rash that was going to make her butt fall off. But at this given moment in time, he was hoping that she was at least reacting more calmly to the pain than when Olivia called him.

olivia hamilton
Olivia had done her best to try and soothe So-Min till Jun arrived. She did whatever she could but nothing really seemed to be easing the discomfort that the child felt. Nothing probably would till she was with her father again. As close as So-Min seemed to be with Olivia, for whatever reason, it still couldn't come close to the kind of bond she shared with her father.

Fortunately, Jun arrived soon. It was nap time for the kids, but So-Min wasn't keen on sleeping, probably because she was in a little pain. Olivia sat with her and occasionally bounced her to try and lull her to sleep. Olivia even opted to singing a small lullaby since that helped with many of the other kids, and she'd been in the middle of her song when the door to the room opened and Jun carefully stepped inside.

Fortunately, none of the other children stirred โ€” some of them slept like rocks โ€” and Olivia offered Jun a tired smile because today had been a little more hectic than usual with her watching out for So-Min and trying to keep her as calm and comfortable as possible.

"She's still uncomfortable," Liv told Jun when he grabbed the bag and approached her with a question. "She was a little better in the morning but toward lunchtime, she wouldn't stop crying." Even now, So-Min was a bundle of sniffles and occasional whines, but it was still better than her wailing her head off like she did during drop off. It hadn't gotten that bad yet.

"I managed to get her to eat a little but she didn't eat all of her food. I think she'll sleep better at home with you." Olivia knew that they did co-sleeping at home and maybe right now that was what the child needed to feel reassured that everything would be okay soon enough, and that the pain would eventually fade.

Olivia reached out to transfer So-Min to Jun's arms, though she had a concerned expression plastered onto her face, one that wouldn't go away till she knew So-Min was beginning to feel better. "I think she just needs to spend some time alone with her father, till the rash subsides, and then she should be okay."

Jun nodded as Olivia began to pass over all the information about So-Min. What Olivia was saying was right; she would sleep better at home considering her co-sleeping environment. It was amazing how the carers were even able to get her to nap the way that they did considering how it was so different here to how she slept at home. As Olivia transferred So-Min over, Jun released an airy sigh along with a โ€œThank youโ€ to the educator. So-Min automatically buried her head into Junโ€™s neck, sniffling as she held onto her Appa tightly.

โ€œI think youโ€™re rightโ€ฆโ€ he said softly, rubbing So-Minโ€™s back gently. โ€œIโ€™ll change her nappy before I go if thatโ€™s okay.โ€ When he was told that was fine and shown where the nappy change area was, he thanked Olivia once more before ensuring the door was closed for the area. After all, he knew that So-Min would probably start crying once he started to change her as she did at home. He slid off the bag off his shoulders, placing it next to the change mat and slowly placed So-Min down onto the mat.

And right on cue, she began to whine that she wasnโ€™t in her Appaโ€™s arms.

โ€œShhโ€ฆ So-Min-Ahโ€ฆโ€ he cooed softly to his daughter as he took out a clean nappy from her bag. Jun then began to slowly take off So-Minโ€™s leggings, while softly โ€˜shhhโ€™ing the baby. As he unlatched the nappy, lifting her legs up gently in the process of it all, he noticed that she started to tense straight away. As he pulled back the nappy, he almost lost his breath. Her nappy rash was so much worse than what it had been before. Not to mention, she had done a small little nugget of a poop which meant he was going to have to give her a wipe down too.

Reaching over for a wipe, he tried to wipe his daughter down as carefully and gently as possible. And thatโ€™s when it started; the wail that was released from her lips sounded like someone was murdering the poor child. The tears were streaming down her face and the screams were beginning to echo louder and louder in the area. โ€œSo-Min-ah, itโ€™s okayโ€ Jun began to softly say to her over and over again. But even as he stood there, not touching her, her wails seemed to get stronger and louder.

And it broke his heart.

He hated seeing her in pain. He hated it that it was probably his fault that she got a nappy rash like this to begin with. He wasnโ€™t sure if it was the lack of sleep, the fact that So-Min was in so much pain, or the fact that he still didnโ€™t have time to grieve the death of his wifeโ€ฆ But at that moment, he felt himself getting choked up. He could feel his eyes stinging. His throat closing up. But he was trying to push it down. He needed to be strong for So-Min. He couldnโ€™t cry. No, no. He wasnโ€™t allowed to cry.

Swallowing thickly, he tried once again to wipe her bottom โ€“ only to be met with an even louder cry of pain. โ€œSo-Min-ahโ€ฆ itโ€™s okay honeyโ€ฆโ€ he cooed at her, not even realising that there were tears starting to slowly run down his cheeks. His daughter was in so much pain โ€“ and he felt like he had failed as a father.

"Of course."

Olivia was more than happy to direct Jun to a room where he could change So-Min. When he was gone, Olivia remained in the other room, watching the other children sleep. Her mind was elsewhere though. She was trying to think about what could be done about So-Min's angry rash, but before she got too far in her thinking, she heard So-Min's faint cries from the next room. The door was closed, so Olivia suspected that it was louder than it currently sounded to her. Glad that it didn't wake up the children just yet, Olivia decided to poke her nose in to see if Jun needed any help.

She opened the door slowly and peeked inside first. So-Min was on the changing mat and Jun's back faced Olivia, but it wasn't hard for her to make out the words he was saying to his daughter. Of course, she couldn't understand them because he was speaking Korean, but she didn't need to understand the language to know that he was feeling a lot of negative emotions right now. And the thickness of his voice, paired with an occasional sniffle, told Olivia all she needed to know.

She pursed her lips, wondering what she could do to help. On the one hand, she thought it might be better if she didn't intrude, but at the same time she knew Jun was trying his best, and the last thing she wanted was for him to end up blaming himself when he was doing all he could to help. He was a good parent. It was just difficult being a parent.

Unable to help herself, Olivia stepped into the room quietly, closing the door behind her and walking up to Jun's side. She offered him a brief, reassuring smile, before coming up near So-Min's upper half so she could caress the top of her head, doing her best to soothe her with her presence. Olivia just figured that if So-Min saw two people that she felt comfortable around, it might make this all go smoother. At the very least, another helpful presence might take some weight off of Jun's shoulders.

"It's okay," she cooed softly, keeping her gaze on So-Min and silently encouraging Jun to continue changing her.

YEON JUN-SEOK.
Sominโ€™s screamed only began to echo louder. With each tear that fell from his daughterโ€™s eye, Jun could feel another stab to his heart. How could he have let this get so bad? Sure, he had followed the doctorโ€™s orders. They told him to use the cream from the pharmacy and to give her oat baths. To change her diet for a bit. He did everything that they had told him to do, and it just seemed like it was getting worse. He could even see blisters forming on his daughterโ€™s bare bottom as he tried to quickly and effectively clean her up without causing too much pain. However, it seemed harder than he had expected. She was tossing and twisting, trying to get away from his touch.

โ€œSo-Min-ahโ€ฆโ€ he wanted to ask her to stay still. He wanted to tell her that everything was okay. But as he said her name, he could feel his throat tighten. He raised a hand to his face and used the back of it to quickly wipe away the tears which had been forming in his eyes and rolling down his cheeks. No. He wasnโ€™t allowed to cry. He had to stay strong for So-Min. He needed to show her that she had a strong Appa who was her helper and protector who loved her unconditionally. He inhaled deeply, causing him to sniffle as he tried to compose himself.

All the sudden, they werenโ€™t alone.

Olivia had snuck her way through and was by her side andโ€ฆ comforting So-Min. Had So-Min not been in so much pain, Jun wouldโ€™ve been embarrassed that Olivia had come in to witness him crying. But his focus wasnโ€™t on him right now. It was on his daughter. And right nowโ€ฆ he was very thankful that Olivia was here to help. As soon as Olivia began to coo at So-Min and caress the top of her head, the girl began to calm down from the distraction. She was still whining, scrunching her face in pain with tears falling from her face. But at least she wasnโ€™t screaming like she been prior.

With the distraction working, Jun quickly got back to work. He finished wiping his daughter up and quickly whipped out a new nappy. He then practically smothered her bottom and the inside of the nappy with the cream he had brought in for her before closing it up. Jun released a sigh of relief as he began to fix up So-Minโ€™s clothes and thenโ€ฆ finally. That was it. How the hell was he going to be able to do this at home by himself? The thought of having to hear So-Min going through that much pain againโ€ฆ It brought tears to his eyes once again. He just wanted to hold her for forever and take away all her pain.

And so, once he finished disposing of the old nappy and quickly washed his hands of the cream, he scooped the girl off the change mat and held her tightly against his chest. So-Min clung onto him, burying her head into the nook of his neck. โ€œAppa is so sorryโ€ฆโ€ Jun whispered to the baby, placing his hand on the back of her head and pressing a soft kiss on top of it. He could feel his eyes stinging once more as they watered. The guilt was heavy on his chest and the more he thought about the screams of the child, the heavier it pulled.

Slowly, he looked over at Olivia. โ€œThank you for helpingโ€ฆโ€ he said in a soft voice, fearing that if he spoke any louder that he would burst out into tears. If only the other carers could see him now; Mr No Emotions and Strict Dad standing before Olivia like a blubbering mess.

Olivia was glad to see So-Min calming down a little with her presence. The crying and sniffling persisted, and so did the pain, definitely, but So-Min had at least calmed from before, and she wasn't wailing her head off for the entire daycare to hear.

This allowed Jun to continue cleaning her up since she knew the main reason he was hesitant was to keep her from feeling more pain. That was unavoidable at this point because of the rash but it needed to be done or the rash would only get worse, which they certainly couldn't allow.

Soon enough, it was all done, and So-Min was clinging to her father like she never wanted to let go or let her bottom be exposed for another wiping because of the pain would bring her. Olivia softened a little at the sight and offered Jun a small smile when he thanked her. "Of course," she nodded. "I couldn't stand by and not try to help." The moment Olivia heard it, she had wanted to do something to ease the pain on the both of them. The fact that she'd helped, even a little, sat well with her.

"I know it's hard for you to hear her like that," she told him softly, folding her arms over her chest and hugging herself because she seemed a little unsure of what to do with herself. "But babies are a lot stronger than you think. You shouldn't worry about it too much. With persistent care, the rash will go away and she'll be as good as new."

Olivia couldn't count the number of times parents had freaked out and broke out in a fit of sobs because their child hit their head against the corner of a table or something. The wailing made it seem like they were short of dying or something along those lines, but the truth was different. "Babies are born to withstand new parents," she explained with a small smile. "And you're doing a great job with her."

โ€œAnd youโ€™re doing a great job with herโ€

Junโ€™s gaze moved from his daughter up to Olivia as the girl before him spoke. He wasnโ€™t quite sure what it was, but there was something about that sentence that just made him feelโ€ฆ even more emotional. Was that even possible? He could feel his chest tighten once more and his eyes feeling like they were on the verge of pouring out with tears. All because this girl was saying that he was doing a great job as a parent. Sure, he heard people say to him before. But it usually his parents who other family members. This was the first time anyone who wasnโ€™t related to him, and someone from a professional field of caring for children, that was actually saying it to him. And she wouldnโ€™t just say it, right? She would have to have some sort ofโ€ฆ heart towards it?

At the thought of it all, Jun quickly moved his spare hand up to his eyes and rubbed them with his palm. No more tears were going to be coming out of these damn eyes today. โ€œThank youโ€ฆโ€ he said to Olivia before removing his hand from his red, tear-stained eyes and placing it onto So-Minโ€™s back. His fingers began to lightly glide over the babyโ€™s back in a rhythmic pattern, hoping it would provide some sort of comfort to her.

โ€œItโ€™s beenโ€ฆ itโ€™s been hard.โ€ he said softly, trying to avoid looking at Oliviaโ€™s eyes by looking down at his daughter instead. โ€œNo one tells you how hard itโ€™s going to be to do it all on your ownโ€ฆโ€ Oh God, he could feel his lip lightly quiver again. No, he wasnโ€™t going to cry anymore. Sniffling lightly, he quickly brought his hand up and rubbed his eyes with his palm once more. Okay. That was it. He needed to go home, have a good shower and then cry himself to sleep. That sounded like a better option than just crying in front of this poor girl who probably didnโ€™t want to hear about his depressing life.

โ€œSorryโ€ฆโ€ he huffed out slightly before offering Olivia a small sad smile. โ€œI didnโ€™t mean toโ€ฆ unpack that all on youโ€ฆโ€ Feeling slightly embarrassed by his sudden change in emotions and demeanour, Jun turned towards So-Minโ€™s bag once again and quickly began to put the items that he used back into it with his free hand. Finally, he zipped it up and slung it over his shoulder. He had no clue if So-Minโ€™s hat and bottles which he was usually very anal about going back in his bag were in there. But right now, all he wanted to do was get his daughter to the doctors, have her checked out and finally try and get a good nightโ€™s rest.

โ€œIโ€™ll keep her home tomorrow,โ€ he informed Olivia, turning to the girl once he had the backpack slung over his shoulder โ€œBut Iโ€™ll uhโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll message you and let you know how we go at the doctor's.โ€ He paused. Wait. Was that appropriate. Was he meant to be messaging her for things like that? Heck, he didnโ€™t even know if he was meant to be messaging her to begin with โ€“ even if it was for babysitting reasons. But surely she would want to know how So-Min went at the doctor's, right?

olivia hamilton
Olivia nodded as Jun explained how hard it's been. She couldn't imagine it, really. Being a single parent was one thing if you knew what you were getting into from the start, but Jun never imagined he'd have to do it alone. Through some stroke of unlucky fate, it had been thrust upon him when his wife died, and Olivia didn't know what she'd do if she'd been in his position. She'd try to be strong, of course, but she could understand the stress that was on Jun, and his need to make sure that So-Min was okay at all times.

"I know it feels like you're all alone, but you aren't," Olivia made sure to remind him of that. Sure, at home he was, but there would always be people to help. Olivia herself had already made that clear by offering to babysit when he asked, and further, ensuring So-Min did well during daycare, just as she cared for all the other children at the centre. Though, admittedly, So-Min held a bigger piece of her heart simply because of how attached she seemed to be to her.

"It's alright," Olivia smiled at him reassuringly when he apologised for unloading on her. She didn't really mind. If anything, she appreciated the fact that he felt comfortable enough to tell her. She knew she should probably start wondering whether that sort of thing was unusual or not practised as much between a daycare instructor and a parent but Olivia could recount several times parents had unloaded on her, and she used that as an excuse to pass this off as okay because she didn't want it to be not okay.

"Yeah, I would like that," Olivia continued, when Jun explained that he'd let her know how it went at the doctor's. She wanted to be updated on the situation, and while Jun could just as easily have told her about it whenever he brought So-Min into the daycare, she didn't mind if he texted her about it. It definitely wasn't something she'd done with another parent before but... she felt like this was different. She couldn't quite put her finger on it but for the time being, she didn't want to overthink it.

"And we'll see you soon when you get better," Olivia spoke to So-Min this time, bending a little to try and see her face so she could wipe away a stray tear with the tip of her finger. She offered the girl a smile before standing upright so she could walk father and daughter to the door.

YEON JUN-SEOK.
Thank goodness So-Min rash had calmed down within a couple of days.

After almost having a mental breakdown, Jun was able to get So-Min in to see a doctor to have her rash looked at. The doctor announced to Jun that it looked like a rather bad teething rash, along with a potential reaction to a cream or nappy brand which he had been using. Come to think of itโ€ฆ He had been using a new nappy brand lately as it came in a care package from his Uncle and Aunt. So, the doctor gave him medicine to help with the rash and pain, and some cream too, and instructed Jun to get new nappies and to avoid letting So-Min eat anything high in fructose.

Once they had arrived home and did her little routine (adding in the new cream and medicine), Jun finally got So-Min to bed and fast asleep next to him. With a heavy sigh, he gazed at his phone to find that it was just gone eight at night. He had been on the go since picking up So-Min that he realised that he didnโ€™t take a moment to send Olivia a text about everything that happened. Now he uhโ€ฆ he ummed and ahhed about what he was going to say to the girl for a good fifteen minutes. Why? Well, he had no clue. He just seemedโ€ฆ nervous? Was that what he was feeling?

Finally, he bit the bullet and sent her a text. He thought nothing more of it and placed the phone on the bedside locker as he closed his eyes to go to sleep. However, as soon as he heard it vibrate with a reply, he flung himself to see the answer. Jun paused and thought to himself for a moment or so. Why the hell was he acting this way? It was his daughterโ€™s teacher. It was nothing but professional, right?

Right.

I bought somin to the doctor โ€“ theyโ€™ve given me medication to give to her and some cream too. Sheโ€™ll be back in daycare next week

thatโ€™s great! Look forward to seeing her back in daycare when sheโ€™s all well! Let me know if thereโ€™s anything I can do to help

thank you so much for helping. I really appreciate it.

Somin says thank you too

not a problem! Aww, I love seeing that smile on her face, so anything to help with that ๐Ÿ˜Š

And so, a couple of days passed after the hectic rash that brought everyone to a stand still. So-Min was feeling well enough and was starting to act like her normal self. It was a Saturday morning when Jun noticed that his daughter mustโ€™ve had a growth spurt becauseโ€ฆ well, some of her clothes werenโ€™t fitting her just right anymore. Oh dear, Lord. He was going to have to buy clothes for her. He wasnโ€™t trained for that. Usually his parents sent him cute clothes from Korea and he relied on those. But they didnโ€™t think that So-Min was growing this fast.

So, this is how Jun ended up finding himself at the shopping centre. So-Min strapped into her baby carrier as Jun slowly and aimlessly walked around, finding himself pausing at a baby clothes rack in a clothing store, searching through it. How the hell was he meant to buy clothes for So-Min. Okay, well, yeah, he knew how to buy clothes. But cute clothes. Actual nice clothes. He didnโ€™t want his daughter to look like she had just run into a clothes store and came running back out with any piece of clothing that she could get her hands on.

Olivia was pleased to learn that everything had gone okay at the hospital with So-Min, and she figured soon enough, the rash would be going down, which made Olivia feel relieved. It was admittedly cute to receive an additional picture of So-Min from Jun, especially when she figured the conversation would just end with her acknowledging that everything seemed to be going okay.

A couple of days had passed by and the weekend arrived, which gave Olivia some time off. Saturday dinner with her brother was still a constant and he'd be coming over in the evening, but until then she was free for the rest of the day โ€” or decided to be, rather, since she needed to go grocery shopping but ultimately decided to devote Sunday to that.

Instead, Olivia chose to do a little shopping for herself. She hadn't brought over a lot of stuff from her place back in the UK, and she felt like she needed some new clothes, mainly things to wear while she worked, so some time after breakfast, Olivia headed out to the nearest mall to browse around.

She wasn't in the habit of shopping much, mainly because she dressed for comfort, rather than appearance or anything else, but she still made herself presentable. It didn't take very long for her to pick up a couple of shirts and toss them into the little bag she'd been given at the entrance. Olivia was busy eyeing a pair of jeans when she looked across the room and noticed a familiar face among the hoards of baby clothes.

She squinted, as if it would help her try to see better, but there was no doubt in her mind that it was Jun standing there next to one of the clothes racks. Most teachers might avoid meeting parents out in public โ€” or anywhere except where they were supposed to meet. But Olivia wasn't really a conformist, in that regard. She loved talking to people she knew or recognised, and Jun... well, he was more than just 'people'.

So, abandoning the overly priced pair of jeans, Olivia walked closer to them, a smile lighting up her face as she neared the pair. "Hi," she greeted them when she was close enough. "I didn't think I'd be running into anyone I knew today," Olivia admitted with a small chuckle. "I was just shopping for some stuff when I saw you and I thought I'd come say hello," she explained to Jun, letting her gaze flit down to So-Min, whom she greeted with a wider smile. "It's good to see you up and smiling again."

YEON JUN-SEOK.
A frown remained on Junโ€™s face as he continued go through the rack of clothes. Now, he wasnโ€™t an idiot. He knew that baby clothes were just like adult clothes. They each had a number to represent sizes. Which, honestly, made him pause for a moment. Which size was So-Min? He hated to admit it, but she was growing so quickly that he generally didnโ€™t look at the size tag when putting clothes on her in the morning. He usually just put on anything that fit her. And well, his Umma was great at sending over clothes that seemed to fit So-Min perfectly. She mustโ€™ve had some sort of gifting on her life or something.

This was the first proper time in the last six months that he was out shopping for clothes for So-Min by himself. Even when he went over to Korea after she was born, he had relatives giving him all these clothes or offering to bring him out to the markets to pick clothes out with him. For the first time, he was having to make sure he got the right size and he got something that would look somewhat cute on his daughter. Geez, the pressure really was on, wasnโ€™t it?

โ€œWhat size are you, So-Min-ah?โ€ Jun muttered under his breath, more to the child than himself. With great difficulty, he placed his hand upon the back of So-Minโ€™s collar and searched for the tag blindly. Once he felt it against his fingers, a grin of victory fell onto his face and he arched his head to try and view the tag. Well, that was harder done than said because the damn child kept on moving her big old head in the way. Letting out a sigh of defeat, he dropped his hand and looked back at the rack. I suppose he was going to have to pick something and wish for the best.

โ€œHi. I didnโ€™t think Iโ€™d be running into anyone I knew todayโ€

That sounded likeโ€ฆ

Junโ€™s attention was snatched away from the rack of clothes before him to see Olivia, standing there with a giant grin on her face. She was probably the last person he would expect to see today. Patients? Sure. Co-Workers? Probably. But he didnโ€™t think that Olivia would be at the same shopping centre as him or that she would be here at the same time and day too. She continued to speak and for some odd damn reason, Jun was left shell shocked. His face instantly faded into a shade that resembled a tomato, and he could feel his ears getting hot. His mouth slightly agape in classical Jun style as he watched and listened to Olivia continuing to speak.

What the hell was he doing?

Swallowing thickly, he managed to wriggle a small smile upon his face and mumble out a โ€˜helloโ€™ back to her. But So-Minโ€ฆ Oh man, as soon as So-Min heard that voice, her legs started to kick almost instantly. Seeing Oliviaโ€™s face only made things 100 times crazier. The child, whose front was pressed against Junโ€™s chest in the baby carrier, was beginning to lean back and attempting to reach over to grab onto Olivia. Success! So-Min, the crafty devil, took hold of Oliviaโ€™s cardigan and attempted to drag the girl closer to her.

โ€œSo-Min-ah,โ€ Jun responded, surprised โ€œYou canโ€™t do that to your teacherโ€ Hold on a moment. It gave him an idea. His eyes widened slightly as he looked over at Olivia. โ€œDo you mind holding her a moment, actually?โ€ he asked โ€œI need to check her clothing tags, but she wonโ€™t stop wriggling aroundโ€.

So-Min only continued to lean back and pull on her teacherโ€™s clothes, trying to drag her closer. Well, even if Olivia didnโ€™t want to, it seemed as if So-Min was claiming that the girl was going to be close to her no matter what. Trying to cover the smile that was forming on his face, Jun began to unlatch the carrier so So-Min could finally be carried

Olivia had barely spoken two words and already So-Min was reaching out to her. It caused her to beam up with a smile. She was definitely doing much better than the last time she saw her, and Olivia was happy to see the life that had sprung back in her.

"Oh." She let out a small sound in surprise when So-Min successfully latched onto her cardigan and tried to drag her closer. Having been caught off guard, Olivia found herself being pulled in and she stepped forward in a jerky, abrupt movement that quickly caused her to smile sheepishly at Jun as a result. She lifted her hands to mirror So-Min's hands, intending on slowly prying her hands off, but when Jun instead asked her to take So-Min, Olivia ceased her attempts.

"Sure," she nodded, offering him a small smile. So-Min still didn't seem to want to let go, even though Jun was already working on getting her out of the carrier. Once he'd done that, she happily curled her into her arms, cradling her carefully and giving her a bit of a wider smile since it was nice to see her happy again. It always sent a stab of almost physical pain through her when she heard So-Min screaming bloody murder because she knew just how miserable she must have felt during those times.

"Alright, alright, I'm right here," Olivia told So-Min with a small chuckle, naturally adopting that baby talk voice whenever she spoke to the young girl. Olivia couldn't help it, especially around a baby as cute as So-Min was. And she seemed to love her, which was definitely a bonus.

"So, time for new clothes for So-Min?" Olivia asked, directing her question at Jun, but looking at So-Min as she spoke, allowing her to take hold of one of her fingers in her podgy little hands.
