It's happening.

I musn't run away...
Yes.

Ex3. This year. John and Holden and Geoff. Talk amongst yourselves.
Seriously, it was evident several years ago that Exalted needed a serious overhaul in order to return it to the glory that so many fans, ourselves included, fell in love with. But that overhaul couldn’t be accomplished without a new edition and we weren’t set up to support such a major project. Fortunately, Holden, John, and a great crew of volunteers were able to begin the thinking on how to revitalize Exalted with their Ink Monkey work and were further able to jump into suggesting how to approach a new edition. Around the same time, a lucky conversation with Geoff Grabowski, my old partner on the development side of Exalted (see the Making of Exalted booklet contained within EX1), revealed he was interested in revisiting the world he had set on its course. The path was clear: EX3.

EX- The Realm – Covers the Scarlet Empire in the current era. Unlike its predecessors, this book does not end at the shores of the Blessed Isle but also covers Realm satrapies in the Threshold and beyond. It will provide a deep exploration of Dragon-Blooded society and what it means to be a Dynast including the Immaculate Philosophy, the beliefs and histories that guide the morality of the Realm and unite the Dragon-Blooded host against the avarice of the gods and the power of the Anathema. A large part of this book will be devoted to detailing the houses of the Dynasty, updating and enlivening with intention of making the houses as tantalizing as Kindred Clans, in terms of iconicism and player association and appeal. 160 pages. PDF/PoD

EX- Arms of the Chosen – The definitive tome of artifact weapons and armor for the Exalted. Most importantly, Arms expands and develops the Evocation system to be introduced in the corebook. Evocation is the Solar-specific system by which the Lawgivers may derive unique Charms from artifacts, giving them a whole new layer of power and themes to explore.* The book will feature not only a much wider selection of weapons and armor than the corebook, but it will also have a section dedicated to Warstriders. 64 pages. PDF/PoD

* Evocation is no longer Solar-only, confirmed by Holden.

EX- Dragon-Blooded: What Fire Has Wrought – This book introduces the Dragon-Blooded for the first time in Third Edition, including character creation rules and the Dragon-Blooded Charm set. What Fire Has Wrought is the first indicator of the dynamic new “novel” feel of Exalted, of amped up storytelling, with each book as a chapter in the legend of the game. This book will give an iconic view of the Dragon-Blooded, showing their creation as the armies of the Celestial Host and detailing their place in the current era. It will feature some further details of the Realm as well as Lookshy, and may feature other locales where Dragon-Blooded are prominent. Overall, it will focus on the legend of the Dragon-Blooded and the fires they have had to walk through to get to where they are, as Creation’s premiere, dominant Exalted. 220 pages. PDF/PoD Hardcover/Deluxe Kickstarter

Completely new edition. I've never actually gone through having to rebuild an entire library after a system change. While the shiny is alluring, the price and waiting are daunting.

But...but I just started to really get into Exalted again. I bought new books and everything...*sniff* How will I buy food?!

Well, hopefully the rework will be worth it, and a lot of things gets explained and lore tied in more together.

Agreed. And, judging by the work getting better and better with each new book, I think we're in for a treat. Thanks for posting this. I had no idea.

I'll be honest, I love exalted but it has been difficult for me to get friends in due to the mess the lore is, most people just hold onto the steriotype: "LUL EXALTED IS AN OVERPOWERED GAME FOR PEOPLE WHO DOn"T KNOW HOW TO RP" and it's just due to the fluff and lore not tying itself properly. I wish that stereotype would vanish.

If exalted 3 can accomplish that then so be it.
Oh crap, I've still got all of my 1st Edition gathering dust under the bed....
/me goes makes space for 2E....
Won't you need to make space for 3E?

My... my wallet!

It cries... it is about to be hit by WH40K 6Ed, and now Exalted 3rd Ed?

*weeps with wallet*

Odd, never encountered that in all my years playing Exalted. I just have to deal with twinks.

This being said, I don't give a damn that it's being rebooted. Why? I'm excited. There's a magic that comes with gameline edition reboots that makes me a fan all over again. I've been pondering my old Vampire games, all the new World of Darkness I've run, the fact that they're finally, FINALLY making good on God Machine after eight years, I'm sold. On all of it. I'll most likely contribute to the Deluxe Kickstarter for the Exalted Corebook.

I've had it happen to me multiple times, I love the system but I don't agree with the way the books are done, the only real decent writing recently has been MoJ and Shards of the Exalted Dream.

People typically stop their interest for exalted at the infernal book and I lose possible players. The core book is good but it just has a lot of questions unanswered etc. Many questions that apperently were found in 1e books according to other players.

I'm not going to tell people, "Hey read 2E but then go back to 1E so it makes sense"

I categorically cannot agree with this. There's good writing there, yes, in those books. Excellent writing in Shards and I was charmed by MoJ, but those are not the only decent examples of writing in the series. Dreams had a lot of good writing, evocative, charming, tinged with dread. Terrestrial Direction: North is perhaps the finest of the Terrestrial Direction books alongside West. South had numerous good points. A lot of the details in Second Ed are nods to little things from First, that's all. You don't need to read back to understand them. That's why STs are there to fill in the gaps. The Abyssals book and Underworld book are sublime from beginning to end.

Wonders of the Lost Age was wonderful in fluff and mechanics because it was lite on both. Enough to evoke and move on. Creation's always been a grab bag of details, cultures, mores, etc.

Again, questions are there to simply make room for STs. Take your own ideas and run with them, it's not all set in stone. If that throws players off, oh well. We've had very different experiences with Exalted, so I can't attest to people being turned off by the setting.
It was also on the original Blog announcement where we'd found it!

There is a blog? Where. I just follow the white wolf forums.

I will say that I also am excited to see what they do with it. I love the game where it's at, but there is room for improvement. I think the most recent books have reached a very high-level of quality and can't wait to see that in the Core book. That's not to say that 2E wasn't a good reboot, but it felt like it was cleaning up a lot of the mess of 1E. This I think is coming from a strong 2E platform only to make it stronger, which excites me.

I do agree with The Dark Wizard as he brings up something that I hadn't thought of. I do feel the setting and lore is a lot of the barrier for people. If they can shore that up a bit, and I'm not saying I know how the hell to do that, I would really enjoy that.
