I am the cat that curiosity has yet to kill
Seraphina jumped a bit when she heard the principal's booming voice over the crowd, telling them to get to their respective booths with their partners. Looking around she watched a few students break off in pairs. Some looked eager to begin while others seemed, disappointed? She figured that might be the case with some of the students. Perhaps they wanted to fight their friends or thought their opponent didn't fit their worthwhile. Seraphina's golden hue eyes turned back towards Clara, Miranda, as she gave the girl a reassuring smile, "Everything will be ok, just try your best. Afterwards you can come find me if you want. All you have to do is shout," she told the girl in a gentle tone. With that being said Seraphina gave a small wave before turning and heading to the building.
Walking inside the earth mage clutched her book to her chest as she took a deep breath, You got this Seraphina! Just think of it as training with Bramwell and the younger boys, she thought to herself. Hopefully thinking of it in this sense would help her to push aside the fact that she'd be fighting for no real purpose. As she kept repeating her pep-talk another thought crossed her mind. If she didn't give this her best shot there was a high chance of failing. Stopping in her tracks at the sheer thought of failing and idea of disappointing her parents caused her to grip the book tighter. "I can not risk failure. I'm going to give this my full effort," whispering this vow to herself before continuing on her way towards the booth where principal Von Deik was waiting for her.
Arriving at her destination it was plain to see that the principal was the first of either of them to arrive. Before she could properly introduce herself the principal had turned his attention on her and began explaining how their particular sparring session would go. Listening intently to the man Seraphina was a bit thankful that he wouldn't be going all out on her since it would be the first time they'd spar against each other. Von Deik is one of the most prevalent wind mages in Cathonia so this certainly wouldn't be easy, even if he wouldn't be using the full extent of his magic. When he finished his mini speech the marquess gazed upwards at the yellow eyed man, "Excuse me for a quick moment before we start sir Von Deik." Seraphina quickly walked to one corner of the booth on her side where she then proceeded to slip her high heels off and place them on the ground next to her book. With the slightest flick of her hand the objects were covered by a protective stone dome as a precautionary measure to keep them safe. Plus it was hard to move around in heels when it came to this sort of stuff.
Seraphina took a deep breath as she walked to her starting point. With each step she took the girl could sense the principal's movements, even the slightest shift in his movement. There were a few way she could go about this to make it a somewhat smooth victory very quickly, such as binding him to the ground or letting him become engulfed in quicksand from the start. But that would be too easy. True she would ultimately have to bind him if she was going to win, just not right off the bat. When Seraphina stopped she turned to face Von Deik from the opposite end of the field, tightening the ribbon in her hair before relaxing her body. Her right foot slid in front of her a bit while her left one slid back some as she took a rooting stance. Distributing the weight and pressure of her body evenly. Seraphina balled her fists as she tucked her arms up to her chest, and a subtle fiery determination in her eyes, "I'm ready sir."
