Fandom Into the fire (1x1 MzHyde/Gallifrog)

Just from their tones when she left she could they were probably glad it was her and not them. The one down side to being the only other woman in a group... They get volunteered to deal with another woman's moods.

When Jay sighed and tilted her head back with an answer she was expecting she leaned back with her to keep the whole vibe of the area casual. "I know I'm probably the last person you wanna talk to right now...but, just know my ears open to you and no word will be spoken outside the four walls we talk in. But yeah...I feel you on the shit life thing at the moment....having your birth father become a demon and set you up for a trap to get you killed kinda puts a damper on the day." She said smirking slightly. She figured if she told Jay something personal, it might help her to open up to her back.

She shrugged "I don't really do talking to people as a general rule, which you've no doubt seen by now" as she spoke, she didn't look at Kay, her eyes focused firmly ahead. She did not bother to point that the cockpit had far more than four walls if you counted all the glass panels that made up the viewing done.

She listened to Kay's story and rolled her eyes with a sigh "and then you come back to find this whole mess. I could punch him, but he's not completly to blame for this whole pile of crap."

She glanced at Jay without turning her head. "Yeah...I got that Jay...everyone closes up for one reason or another. She was well aware of the cockpit having more than four walls but it was a figure of speech she used. She just hoped Jay got what she was getting at when she said it.

"Yeah I did... But you know what? I'm not dealing with it alone. Believe me, John got enough hits in for the both of us before some masked person came in and killed him with a plasma gun or something. So that's a silver lining I guess? Only thing I'm upset about is the fact the piano got destroyed in the process" she said, ending her sentence with a smirk. She then turned serious, "but on a serious note. I know you don't talk to people and that's fine, just know you're not alone yeah? Hell, you can rant at me if I'm asleep so no one hears but gets whatever you're feeling off your chest. We'll get Elliott back Jay... I just know it" she told her, honesty in her tone.

There were a whole load of remarks Jay wanted to make snarky, smart arsed or the downright dark truth, but she didn't, especially not the last one. Her mental filters were excellent, honed from years of practice. Things very rarely got out that she didn't want to. At the mention of a mask and a plasma gun, she raised an eyebrow, before turning to the computer and typing something in.

"Oh I'm well aware of that." it was clear from her tone that she did, that not everything weighing on her mind was Elliott related "And besides he's not crazy enough to do all this without a proper plan or a team."

Seeing Jay's interest clearly piqued by her masked figure comment she felt she got somewhere even if it wasn't about what she came up for. When she mentioned about Elliott not being crazy enough to do this sort of thing without a good team or plan she nodded.

Kay was confirming every single thought in her mind she had as she came to find Jay. That this would be pointless but she was stubborn enough to not get defeated before she tried. She also felt like she needed to prove something to John and Chas by actually going. She wasn't exactly sure what else to say for a while so she let the silence take over for a short while and she took in the sight before her which was utterly breathtaking. "Jay...you seemed to have your interest piqued by the masked person comment I made. It ring a bell at all to you or something?" She asked finally, deciding to change the subject thinking this may be a way forward with her.

"Yes, it does. I know... " she hesitated slightly, as if unsure whether to correct herself or not "well....knew would be more apt. I knew two people who fit that description. There might be more out there, there's not exactly much in terms of detail in what you told me, so more than likely I am connecting dots where there are none. But it's too late for me to ignore it."

She spun herself around to face Kay. "describe this person, mask, exact gun type and style, height, build, what they said."

Kay nodded at what she said. Of course it was this that got Jay talking and nothing else. Turning her face to look at Jay she thought back to the whole situation trying to remember as mucha s she could, considering how fast it all went down and how she was pretty much ready to pass out then there and then.

"Okay... Well, the gun was a shotgun. It had shafts of purple light running down the barrel and was light silver in colour. From what I could see anyway as they holstered it onto their back. As for them? White mask covered their face, and they wore all black with gold detailing, a good was also worn. Only their eyes were on show. Which were green...like dark green but they had these specks of silver and gold in them. Both myself and John found them so familiar but not at all at the same time. They called John GJ and knew about my rebirth abilities. Said they were warned we'd be dubious of them" Kay explained in as much detail as she could. She was pretty sure she didn't forget anything.

As Kay talked, Jay started taking notes, her fingers flying over the keyboard, she didn't have to look at the keys, she just knew where her fingers needed to be. It was clear in the small flickers of emotion and recognition on her face that he recognised many elements of what Kay was saying.

Reaching over to one of her gear bags, she unzipped it and pulled out an object wrapped in black cloth, that judging by the shape and size could only be a shotgun. She carefully passed it over to Kay, it was heavier than one of Chas's guns and cold to the touch. Unwrapping it would reveal the same gun. Up close there was an engraving on the stick, a wild dog of some sort on one side, and a set of symbols on the other. "this gun?"

Kay watched as Jay typed in a load of things. She could just about catch the flickers of emotion in Jay's face but if she had blinked she would have missed them. She wondered what Jay was doing when she leaned over to one of her bags.

As the item came out she got suspicious but not in a negative manner. She was growing suspicious that the item she was pulling out was the gun, taking hold of it, taking note of the weight before unwrapping it she nodded. Looking Jay in the eyes "yeah..the exact one." She confirmed. She inspected the engravings before looking back at Jay and handing it back.

Jay took the shotgun back and flipping it open in one swift move. She inspected the insides, her thumb running over the engravings, before rewrapping it and stowing it away. She handled the gun less like a weapons he could blast somebody's head off with, and more like something that could break at any moment. "Well bloody hell." she conceded with a shake of her head, and a half laugh.

"The damn kid's a time traveller. Guess I just lost eighty creds

Kay watched thoroughly impressed by the way Jay handled the gun. It was a sight to behold in Kay's mind, and she had seen Chas handle weapons enough times from when he gave her that bit of training.

"We theorised time travel but do you know who they are? And why would they come to our aid?" She asked. It was clear to Kay that Jay had answers and she wanted them herself which she knew she would relay to John straight away. He had the right to know what she finds out.

She nodded "I'm almost certain I do. But it's not the owner of the shotgun" she jerked her head in the direction of the bag "in case you were wondering. That person is dead, no chance of resurrection or regeneration, or post mortem cloning or whatever." she added.

"As for why they helped...they have their own agenda for what they want do, and we're right in the middle of it."

Kay sighed for the vague answers to add to every other vague answer she had received for one thing or another. Something she was getting rather tired of receiving. "Then who was it? " She asked hoping to get more out of her, but she did also think she might be pushing her luck at this stage.

She had to agree about the last part of her reply though. They were all the middle of whatever this plan was and she did not like it one bit. She also started wondering if her theory of the 'GJ' part was correct still. She felt like she was one piece in a giant puzzle that just kept growing instead of becoming more complete.

Jay actually gave a straight answer this time, there was no other way to say it. "The person who had the prison cell beside me in DeltaMax." Kay would not of course know that DeltaMax was the space prison where the most hardened of criminals were set from all across the planetary systems. It had a brutal reputation, was the centre of many rumours of slavery, genetic experimentation, torture and any other hideous rumour that could be thought up of. And most who went there never got released again.

Kay got taken off guard and by surprise when she gave her a straight answer. "Oh..right." she replied with, debating whether she should even ask about what DeltaMax was or not. She got it was clearly a prison from Jay using the word cell but that was all she got from Jay's answer.

"So...care to share if we should be worried about him or not? He knew what the hell I was and despite saving me, still left a piece of the one thing that could kill me permanently in me. So it'd be nice to know of he's a threat to me or not because he kept the bloody blade" she explained.

"Her actually. The kid is solid. Broody, doesn't show her face, basically ever, which is not a bad strategy in the supermax to end all supermaxes. Always claiming to know stuff about the future and spot on almost every single time. But she's damn lethal at fighting. And staged a mass breakout, and a prison riot." She smiled slightly at the memory. "So you can take it from me, you can trust them."

Kay nodded making a slight "uh huh" sound in response. She would never guessed it'd have been a girl despite them having spoken to them earlier. With the mask on, it disguised the tone so it could have been anyone. Hearing this kid stages a massive prison breakout and riot made her raise her eyebrows in surprise and out of being impressed.

"I see..well that's something I guess. What's bugging me though is the whole calling John GJ...and I know it hugged John at the time too... You have any idea or theories about why it stands for?" She asked, curious if she could be onto anything thinking what she thought, but decided to ask in a vague manner without letting on any of her own thoughts.

Jay could see the surprise and what could be perceived as slight admiration on Kay's face. It had been a while since she had last given her ally any proper thought. But now that she seemed to be in the middle of everything going on, she started to remember. They hadn't been exactly friends and allies wasn't the right word either. Their bond was something different. "That I don't know" Jay sighed. "personal life details weren't exactly important, the only thing that mattered was smarts and skills. But I think I know where to get answers"

She pulled on the headset, activating the comms as she did so. "all right people, aliens, pheonixes and those of unspecified racial identity. Hold on tight we're making a detour." Her voice was relayed over the ship comm system. Grabbing hold of the main controls, she yanked it sharply to the right, swinging the ship up into an arc and onto a completly different course.

Kay didnt expect Jay to know but she figured she would ask anyway. Hearing how personal information wasn't exactly important didn't surprise her. What did surprise her was Jay saying she might know where to get the answers.

She buckled up the moment Jay put the headset on as she had a feeling she'd need to, which was confirmed by the sharp turn Jay made after her little announcement. She wasn't exactly sure how John was going to feel about going off course, but she didn't think he'd take it too well. "So where are we going exactly?" She asked Jay, "and how far out of our course is this going to take us? So I can be prepared any possible anger from John" she added.

"The Tor binary planet system. Two tiny planets orbiting around each other like Pluto and it's moon, but with less of a size difference. It's fighter and racer pilot territory. Tor 1 serves as a refuelling depot, message board, mercenary hire, ship chartering stop. Tor 2 is ship chop shop, ship graveyard, home of the Arena and monument to the Fallen. It's one of the main social centres of pilots with an edge for danger." Her tone held a reverence of sorts.

"It's surrounded by an asteroid field and race tracks. If I burn through all our remaining fuel and travel crazy fast we'll be there in an hour or so. From there I can get more fuel, maybe aquire another ship." At the comment about John she rolled her eyes. "Well if he has a problem with it, he can damn well fly his own ship to Attil." she smirked.

Of course there would be planets like what Jay mentioned Kay thought. There were so many thoughts coming to her hat could reference shows like firefly or farscape but she held her tongue and decided against it. Last thing she wanted was to possibly piss off an alien, especially judging from her tone as she explained. She thought it was a big enough accomplishment just having Jay say anything to her.

She had to give Jay props for not being concerned about an angry John but it also made her think about what Elliott told her in her usb recording. She knew she'd have to be prepared for this possibly making them clash heads. She hoped it wouldn't come to that but she'd rather be prepared just incase. "We both know that's not a wise thing" she smirked.

"Oh it isn't" she smirked. "But there is this bet I have going." A few moments later John and Chas came up into the cockpit, the former demanding to know exactly what was going on. Jay explained, giving a brief overview of what she had learned from Kay and what she knew of the Mask. She also (under Chas's questioning) revealed parts of her plan. It seemed to consist of flying to Tor 1, getting a refuel, maybe a new ship in the process. If her sources on Tor 1 had nothing they would go to Tor 2. The plan was non-negotiable, and considering that none of them were proper pilots or even knew how to get to Attil, there wasn't much they could do to stop her.

John wasn't happy with this, but it was a rock and hard place kind of choice. But he was of course was extremely interested in the fact that Jay had done prison time and how exactly this had happened. "Mercenary and smuggling works pays very well, but you piss off quite a few people. Doesn't help to have a whole load of military enemies on top of that. At some point you're gonna get screwed over." She had accelerated the ship, that much was obvious, but she hadn't gone full throttle yet, but her hand was resting on the control.

(last post)

She smiled with a chuckle when she said about a bet going. There was seriously something about this lot and bets. "Fair enough!" Was all Kay replied with just before Chas and John arrived in the cockpit. As Hay explained everything, she swapped out the copilot seat so if Chas needed it, he'd have it and she sat down in her previous seat. Looking at John, she could pinpoint the exact moment he got pissed off by the change of route.

Somehow Jay's explanation of how she ended up in prison didn't shock her like she thought it might. She barely knew her but hearing what Jay did, seemed utterly believable. She felt the acceleration pick up a bit but it didn't bother her in the slightest. Kay just decided from this point to go along with the change of route and plan. It's not like her voice would have much weight anyway. Even if this change of route was partially her fault.

Chas took the co-pilot seat, but all it took from Jay was a look to tell him that she would be flying solo for this part. John took his seat next to Kay. After fifteen minutes or so a small brown blurry blob appeared on the horizon, it was so small they had to squint to see it properly. Jay gestured at it "that's the asteroid field around Tor. So strap in, it's going to get dangerous" of course by dangerous she actually meant a mix of fatal danger, massive adrenaline rush and scaring people shitless. (at least for her)

She gave them a minute to comply, then pulled on her headset and slammed forward on the throttle. Instantly the ship tripled in speed, shooting forwards at a crazy high speed. Chas could tell from the gauges that this was draining the fuel supplies. On the horizon the dot grew and expanded, revealing an asteroid field of dusty grey, brown and red rocks varying from metres across to kilometres. They almost perfectly encased the binary planet system, in a way that suggested it was not natural. There was one proper opening in and out, wide enough for the freighter ships to get through.

But needless to say, Jay didn't take the easy way, instead she arced up and over the asteroid field, the DartBird flipping belly up. Then with no warning, she dove the ship right into the asteroid field.

As they drew closer to the asteroid field according to Jay, she listened to her warning and Kay did not need telling twice by any means. She quickly strapped in before witnessing the insane flying Jay was doing (in her opinion). She watched as the asteroid field came closer and closer at a rapid speed.

She wondered why Jay wouldn't take the easy set out opening for them to get in but she wasn't going to question anything Jay did at this moment in time. She held onto the strapping that held her in her seat, unconsciously her grip getting tighter as Jay continued to gain access to Tor the way she was.
