I thought it was Backing in the Gunstar Defense Line? Backing seems to make sense to mean because it represents hierarchy in an organization, and Backing 3 (in the GDL) gives you a free Voidfighter.
 
Oh hey! It actually lists Class in the in "Backgrounds in Gunstar Autochthonia" section on page 39. Yeah, so saganite is right. Class is just that, class in the society. You'll still need Backing to rise in rank in the military.


I don't see where it says that Backing 3 gives you a free Voidfighter.
 
Would 'Ride' be used to pilot the voidships or Sail? xD


EDIT: And are the extra Alchemical Charms listed in the Appendix of Shards allowed? (Just checking)

Nope. Improved Class (Alchemicals and DBs get 3 base, Celestials 4) nets you extra dice in interactions with people of lower class, more money, better amenities and some other stuff, but nothing having to do with Artifacts AFAIK. I would have to assume you could get a better Voidfighter wth higher than Backing 3 (which provides a basic Voidfighter automatically), and/or the obvious extra dots of Artifact (maybe spend 1 to give you an artifact 5 voidfighter, such as the scarlet empress copies).

Probably. They're Artifact 4 for normal ones (which, mind you, come with a bunch of ancillary systems as-is), so I'd have to assume you could spend Artifact 5 for a better one, or maybe spend Artifact dots on extra systems. It may be possible to swing a better one with other backgrounds as well, or at least the reasoning for one (for example, my character has connections to a Twilight who has been designing and creating next-gen prototype Voidships).

Very nice, I'm trying to hammer out Cerise's character design right about now, but she's probably going to be Archery heavy with a sideline in Martial Arts for the odd bit of close combat. As well as having a lot of Stupid Sidereal Tricks to help even the odds of raw power.


Plus, a lot of Sidereal Squishiness disappears when you can frontload Alchemical Charms :o

You wanna know what's totally sexy? A Scarlet Empress-style Voidfighter that turns into a Royal Warstrider, complete with an Essence-3 AI core. Warstrider and Alchemical Charms ftw.
